Messages no longer display contact information they only display phone

When I first upgraded to iOS 7 everything was fine now only phone numbers display and I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn things back on and have no idea how I turned them off

Can't say I have seen it before.
Custom in Language and text can mean two things.
1) You have either added things to particular Displays (such as day and Date to the Time display)
2) You can changed something like a Measurement setting from British Imperial to Metric
There are other "tweaks" such as using a Chinese Calendar whilst saying you are in the US.
I have mine set to United States so I can use the AIM SMS "feature" in Messages.

My email message no longer displays

When I first got the latest IPad, my email messages displayed. Now the message itself is just blank and I can't read my emails. I can only see who sent them. How can I fix this?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My wife and I both have iPhone 4. While messaging, the message is sent to both iPhones when only 1 phone has been chosen. This happen after upgrading both iPhones.

On your wifes phone go to settings - message - send&receive - remove or uncheck the apple id.
This occurs when two people share the same id.

Messages Does Not Display Contact Card

When I message someone or they message me to/from my Messages App on my MBP Messages will not fill in their contact information from my contacts. The only exception to this is when I am messaging someone who uses their email as their iMessage/Messages primary address.
For example, if I am messaging my friend who has an iPhone and their primary form of contact is their phone number then they show up as a phone number in my Messages app on my computer. However, on my phone they show up with their contact information filled in and the messages usually sync (sometimes there is issues where my computer will take me back to the last place I sent a message on the computer even though it has synced all of the messages I have also sent from my phone that day.) *See Screen Shot 1 Below*
The opposite example is if I am messaging someone who has set their primary contact information to be their email address. In this case, Messages will add their contact information and picture to the message thread similar to "Brent" and "Mom" in Screen Shot 2 below.
I don't know what else to do. I've tried restarting the app. Deleting message threads and restarting them. I cannot find other people who are having this issue as well. I'm just trying to figure out why my messages won't sync contact info. It all started when facebook updated their syncing with contacts. And yes, all of these phone numbers are in my contacts and assigned to contacts with pictures both on my phone and synced to my MBP.

I found an error when I changed the contact information.

I found an error when I changed the contact information.
Yesterday, I imported all my contact information from my old phone to my brand new iPhone 4S at an AT&T store. Everything looked fine, but all the first names and the last names were switched. So, I had to correct all contact information manually again. It was so ridiculous.
When I corrected the contact information, the names on my contact list were not changed immediately. For example, when the name of a person, ‘Doe John’, was changed to ‘John Doe’, the name on the contact list was not changed and remained as ‘Doe John’. After I rebooted my iPhone, the name on the list was changed correctly. Do I have to reboot every time when I switched the first name and the last name?

Is ths display order for contacts set the way you want it?
Settings > Mail,Contacts,Calendars > Display Order

Contact information transfer

I currently have a BB 7520 and am waiting for my new 8830 to arrive. My question is if I can transfer the contact information from the old phone to the new without having to go through a lot of manual entry.

Absolutely. Load Desktop Manager to your PC, and use the Switch Device Wizard within to transfer all your contacts, data, calendar, etc.

It won't display the names of my contacts when they message me.

Got a brand new iPhone in the mail, restored it from my old iPhone, and now it's not showing the names of my contacts when they message me even though I have their number in my contacts list. I have tried the add to contacts button but that dosent work either. Please help its a little irritating when someone texts me and I have to ask who it is.

If you do not see this at the top of the display I would try a reset.
Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.

Since purchasing a new iPhone 5 and macbook pro with retina display I have decided to keep the iPhone 5 for phone contacts only, and the macbook for email contacts only .. Is there a way for me to keep these as they are recorded on each apple product when I sync with iTunes as it has changed my iPhone and put in email contacts and thus deleted iPhone phone contacts once when I syncd thanks appreciate any help

To prevent your iPhone from automatically syncing when you plug it in, click on iTunes in the menu bar, then preferences, then "devices", then tick "prevent iPhones, iPad's and iPod's from syncing automatically".
Plug it in, then on the iPhone sync summary screen, click "info" along the top.
Make sure the "sync contacts" option is not ticked. as long as it's not ticked, then it won't sync with your mac's contacts but will still include them in backups.
Also, if you use iCloud, make sure that the iPhone/mac are either not signed into the same account, or that "contacts" is not turned on for both of them

When I receive text messages, it displays phone number instead of contact name.

I updated to iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 over the weekend. Since updating to iOS 5, all of my text messages show up with a phone number listed instead of the contacts name. I checked my contact info and all the contact information is listed and the numbers under the contact are correct. Has anyone else had this issue and if so have you discovered any resolutions?

Following a tip from another poster, I was able to fix the issue (temporarily).
This worked for me on Verizon.
I dialed *228 on my Verizon phone. I pressed "1" to activate it over the air. I then went into task manager and killed all the running apps.. Waited a few minutes.
The next text I got displayed the number correctly!.. Until I rebooted, that is.

Messenger and other applications do not recognized the numbers that are on my contacts. Instead of showing names, they only show numbers. Any advice?

If you are using using Verizon as your provider and iPhone displays the ten-digit number instead of the name of the other party, please follow these steps:
Dial *228 from your iPhone.
When prompted, select option 1.
When complete, you will hear a confirmation message.
Force the Contacts, Messages, and Phone applications to close using the following steps:
Ensure that you have recently opened the Contacts, Messages, and Phone applications.
From the Home screen, double-click the Home button to display the recently used apps.
Tap and hold the icon for the Contacts application until a red minus appears.
Tap the red minus to close the app.
Repeat the previous step for the Messages and Phone applications.
Tap the Home screen to return.
Turn iPhone off and then back on.

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. Since upgrading to Mavericks, 10.9.1, pictures that come attached to emails no longer display. There is only a blank space that after about 1 minute, has a small box with a question mark. How can I go back to attached images?

Double clicking on the box will open the image in a separate window. It's very slow and tedious for multiple images. How can I go back to attached and displayed images? If I click on "Forward", the images appear instantly in the email to be forwarded.

My problem seemed to fix itself. Or, by shutting down the computer one night, instead of putting it to sleep, may have reset something. Since updating to Mavericks, I always (or usually) let the computer sleep overnight or anytime I'm walking away from it. A few days ago, I was updating notes for my kids about how to find all my stuff and how to turn on my computer, so I wanted to rewrite the start-up procedures for the iMac, just in case they ever need to. Well, I shut it down one night so the following morning, I could write down each step. Lo and behold, the images, etc. are all there again! Solved, but I'm not sure why.

Messages display phone numbers not contact name

After I updated my iPhone 4s last night my messages come in displaying the phone number not the contact name. I checked the number in the contact and they are the same. The number 1 is not in the contact or in the message display. I have readded a contact and it will work after that. I don't really want to redo my complete contact list. Anyone have any idea's?

Changes to contact information in iMac / MacBook Address Book results in duplicate entries only on the iPhone / iPad

I have my iCloud account synced to an iMac, MacBook, iPhone 4, and iPad 2. Any changes I make to a contact on the MacBook and iMac result in 2 different contacts on my iPhone with the same name.
In other words, making changes in the address book on my iMac or MacBook, adds another contact on my iPhone / iPad with the new information and same name. As an example, if I have "John Doe" as contact on all of my devices, and I decide to make a change on my MacBook or iMac, I suddenly have 2 entries on my iPhone as John Doe. They are not exact duplicates. 1 of the John Doe entries has my original information, and the other John Doe has my new information. Deleting the "old" John Doe contact deletes all of the entries on all of my devices and I lose all of my contact information completely on all of the devices for John Doe.
Making changes to a contact on my MacBook and iMac only causes issues with my iPhone / iPad. The synchronization between my iMac and MacBook work just fine, and a new entry with the same name is not created. My MacBook and iMac do not show duplicates so the "Look for Duplicates" function in my address book doesn't solve the problem on my iPhone. The only solution so far that seems to work is to go into the iCloud Settings on my iPhone / iPad, temporarily turn off my Contacts, thereby effectively deleting them, and then turning the Contacts back on. I did change my Apple ID email address recently so I wonder if that plays a role or not. My new Apple ID has been changed on all of my devices.
Hope that makes sense and hope some people out there have some ideas.

If you are using Outlook 2011, make sure you have the latest service pack and update.
Make sure your Mac Book and all devices have the latest update.
If the Calendar on the Mac Book is correct go to step 3
Assuming Mac Book Calendar is correct, remove accounts from iPhone, iPad.
Reconnect account to iPhone, iPad account.
All calendars should now be in sync.
There are times when the Mail, Calendar, Contact application has been corrupted (Outlook 2011, Mac Mail, Entourage, etc). This will cause all kinda of issues on your devices. You have to repair the mail client first. In the case of Outlook you can delete the profile and recreate it. In Mac Mail you can rebuild (from Tools on the menu bar)
