Messages not showing up properly on desktop, but sync'd fine with iOS.

I'm running Mountain Lion and trying to use Messages. When I send message from the desktop, they don't even show up in the chat window - nothing. But they do show up on my iPhone 4S, which is signed into the same account. I know the messages are being sent, but can't figure out why they don't show up on the desktop. Anyone suggestions?

Are you sending iMessages to your iPhone ?
Or are you using an AIM login on the phone and sending IMs from Messages ?
You are saying that if you type a phrase and hit Enter/Return the Window remains blank ?

I don't think this has anything to do with the Notification settings.
Do you get a Balloon or other style to indicate a Message is sent ?
I would check the Messages Menu > Prefernces> Messages and the Font choice.
Make sure it is something that is on the Mac currently.

My ipod shows up on my desktop, but not in itunes 7.

Let me start out by saying I've never had any itunes + ipod probems before. Everything has run smoothly up until now.
Last week I upgraded my OS to 10.4.7 because I had been running on 10.2.8 since 2001 and itunes wouldn't let me download albums containing music videos. So I decided it was time for the upgrade. I also upgraded to itunes 7 and had been previously using itunes 6. This is when the problems started. Now whenever I plug my ipod into my computer with my firewire cord, my ipod shows up on my desktop, but not in itunes and I am completely clueless on what to do. No error messages pop up or anything. My ipod charges and that's about it. I tried doing the 5 R's, but none of that helps. I have a feeling it's itunes's problem and not my ipod's. I was thinking that maybe if I uninstall itunes 7 and re-install 6, everyting would work again; but I don't know how to uninstall itunes and I don't want to risk losing my library. I'd just like for itunes 7 to recognise my ipod and update it. Can anyone help me?

My iPod is a click wheel...I think that's fifth generation?
I've always used my firewire cable to update my iPod. I've tried using USB in the past but for some reason it always says that my iPod has low battery and won't let me update it, so I just use firewire. Can I not use firewire with itunes 7?
I'll try using the USB again. It's laying around here somewhere. Just gotta find it.

External hard drive does not show up on my desktop.

I just got this imac and when I plug in my external hard drive it does not show up on my desktop. On all of the macs at school it just shows up but they are running lepoard and I have lion so I don't know if this could make a difference. I have tried draging it droping it but that didn't work.
PS I am just switching from a pc to a mac so I don't know much.

Start a finder window. In the menubar go to Finder > Preferences > General tab > Check show HDs on desktop.

Not sure if this is a fix, but I tried sending myself a test email from only the Bcc field, and lo and behold it now shows the Bcc field in all sent item previews;
...maybe leaving the 'To' field blank on purpose forced Mail to show it.
Rebooted the Mail program, still there - rebooted the machine, still there. Hope this is still relevant and it works for you too - J.

Messages isn't using the picture from the contacts app. You can set a user picture under "Messages" > "Change My Picture".

There are no ticking noises coming from the hard drive, and it lights up still, and i have tried replacing the cords, and restarting/shutting down the computer, and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.

Try this on one of the Macs ...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Finder > Preferrences
Select the General tab then select: Show External Disks

OK in order to read those files you will need MS Office for Mac or install MS Windows on your Mac. You can get MS Office for Mac from anyone that sells Apple products. I would suggest the Apple Store, Best Buy, Amazon etc...For help getting the data from the memory stick I'd recommend visiting your local Apple Store or AASP and they can help you move it. It should be as simple as plugging the USB drive into your USB port and then open a Finder Window where you will see the drive on the left pane. If you don't know what Finder is or how to open a new Finder window you need the sites I've noted below!!!

Are the apps checked to be synced to the iPod and did you click on the sync button in Tunes?
Were the apps purchased fro the same accoubnt signed into in the iPod?
Are the apps compatible witht he iPOd model and iOS version?
Do you have restrictions set that prohibit instaling apps?

Not viewable in details (view) either. However any new photos sent or received are viewable. PLEASE HELP!!!

ScrollBars not showing up properly

I am displaying a JTree in a JScrollPane with default settings ie. both horizontal and vertical scroll bars will show up when the contents can not fit in to the scroll pane.In this case when i expand the tree nodes the scroll bars are not showing up properly.It looks like the foreground is not painted properly.The background color is white here.We are using custom look and feel, not the standard one. Any idea why it is so?
