Messages on Mac

sooo i downloaded mountain lion and the messages isnt with imessage... i open the application and it says yahoo at the bottom corner, i need to change it to imessage, SOMEONE HELP PLEASE.

Hi All,
To be clear to launch Messages you need to enter an Apple ID
Once this has registered you can go to Messages Menu > Preferences > Account and disable the iMessage bit if you want.
The Accounts list will also show you all those ID and Screen Names that the System Preference > Mail, Contacts and Calendars has identified as "iChat" Accounts.
That is to say that all those Logins you had in iChat should also appear here  (in some cases you may have had an ID such as Yahoo that was not used in iChat but is valid now)
It then depends on how you start a Chat.
Click the new Message icon. (Box and pencil type icon top left)
Click the blue + icon that appears top right
Choosing Contacts for iMessaging people
Choosing Buddies to use any iChat style Buddy lists.
Once a Buddy or a contact is showing in the "TO" spot their name is a drop down revealing other "To" Options and your Form options (If you have multiple ways of contacting each other)
i.e. If I stick in a Contact (of my own Address Card) the extra "To" options offer me my AIM to AIM buddy list items as well.

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

  • Does video chat on the new Messager on Mac allow screen share or multiple people?

does video chat on the new Messager on Mac allow screen share or multiple people?
i noticed they said that facetime will basically be taking over video calls on the mac and that Messager will take over ichat, but i'm worried they're going to drop all the nice features they had on ichat, like being able to share screens while video chatting with someone. or being able to chat with 2 people at once on a video call.
has anyone downloaded the beta of this yet and tried it out? i'm very curious

    Hi,
You can start a Video chat with one Buddy and then chose Screen Share and providing you and the Buddy are using UPnP to open ports it will instantly convert to a Screen Share.
A Screen Share is only 1-1 and is technically an Audio Chat +
The Plus bit is an VNC connection alongside the Audio Chat.
This VNC connection uses a random port - hence the need to use UPnP to open the ports in the router (Or Port Mapping Protocol) in  Apple Base Station.
There used to be Add-ons that allowed the Desktop as Video Feed which would have been a sort of Screen Share but none of these have been updated for Lion.
An Example is iUSBCam  (ShowMacster was another - My link no longer works)
CamCamX maybe a possibility if it works in Lion  (It does say it neess iUSBCam for iChat)

  • When I open my iMac, I get this message - Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory.  ???????

When I open my iMac, I get the following message :  Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory.  Then it says to quit applications not in usw and to close windows and remove files from startup disk.  It lists Safari, email and Finder.  I force a quit on all applications yet the same message comes up every time I open an application.  What do I do to get rid of this once and for all?  The computer is not even two years old and is only used for email and Safari.  Help will be greatly appreciated,

The message has nothing to do with low disk space.
There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the  leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Will Messages for Mac be updated to properly sync with Google Hangouts?

Now that SMS and iMessages can be viewed in Messages for Mac, I was wondering if Google Hangouts will be properly integrated into this application. Messages doesn't sync my texts through hangouts on other devices back to the Messages applications. For example, if I have both the Messages for Mac application open and the Hangouts app on my phone, if I send a message via Hangouts on my phone, my text will not appear on Messages for Mac, but their response will appear on both devices. Is this issue one with Google or Apple? And do you know of any workarounds?
    Thank you.

Nobody knows. Apple has not said anything about it yet.
    Best.

  • Having trouble with the messages on mac my friends using it are coming not registered when i try to send them a message

having trouble with the messages on mac my friends using it are coming not registered when i try to send them a message

That's probably because they're not registered.
Messages only works if your friend has an iphone.
There is a workaround that can work, though.
set up an AIM account online.
in System preferences > mail, contacts, and calendars, enter your new AIM account.
in Contacts, on your friend's contact card, look for AIM. Enter their phone number right before that, with a +1 before it, and the area code:  i.e., +11234567899.
This doesn't always work. Their cellular carrier has to cooperate with AIM. Some do, some don't. If it doesn't work, tell your friend to get an iPhone.

  • Can't see attachments from Messages on Mac on iPhone

When I send people basic text messages like "Hi" on Messages for Mac, this shows up on the message thread for iPhone. However, if I send them an attachment such as pictures, I do not see this on my iPhone. It never used to be like this. Furthermore, I used to send myself images and sound clips this way, and now I can only send my self text messages. in Messages for Mac I see delivered but my phone never loads them up into the threads.
Also, under the File Transferes window, attachments sent to my mobile number are shown as "Sent." and it seems like they're being sent perfectly fine it's just I never see them.

Yes, just sync them to your phone.

  • Iphone receiving read messages from mac mail

My iphone used to only receive unread emails as long as entourage on my mac wasnt open. Now i have moved to mac mail and my phone is receiving read messages from mac mail. Is there a setting im missing that will make my phone only receive new messages?
I still want my mac mail to receive these same emails later as it used to work.

You would still receive read e-mails in the inbox on your iPhone (and vice-versa) if you used IMAP but they would show as having been read and not as new. IMAP keeps all mail clients synchronised. The only alternative would be to use POP to download to your phone and IMAP to download to your laptop and create another folder on your computer and move mail over to it when read. By default, POP only downloads from the inbox so your phone would not download it again. IMAP would leave a copy in the folder you have created on the server in case you have problems with your laptop. If you delete read e-mails on your laptop, you can set it to remove them from the server after a fixed time and they would remain there until then but your phone would not download them again.

  • Does a email that sits in "recovered messages on mac" mean it never sent?

I don't see this email in my sent items, however it was in my recovered messages on mac folder and the date stamp on the email looks like it was sent.

The Recovered Messages mailbox contains messages that were restored from a Time Machine backup. Whether the message was sent or not can be determined from the headers (View > Messages > Show All Headers).

  • Is your Messages for Mac working?

Messages for Mac isn't delivering mesages.

    HI,
    Yes it is Beta still.
There are some suggestions that this is an iMessages server issue.
To be clear Apple run an @mac.com server to allow AIM access to the Passwords for those.
They are still running ('til the end of June) the MobileMe server both for the passwords access and some Emails (those in turn may or may not be linked with an @mac.com name)
More recently there seems to be a different servers for iCloud issued @Me.com names and a server called me.com that iChat and Messages log in to then allow AIM access to the passwords  (The upshot of this is iCloud Names only work in iChat 6 and Messages beta)
The syncing as well as sending iMessages seems to be handled by yet another server.
It seems like any server that at times it is Off Line.
I have not run Little Snitch in Lion to be able to tell what this server is called but the naming of it does seem to cause some issues for some DNS servers which  is helped by the Public DNS servers.
High level of "Fixing" may just have taken up the time that it took for the server to come back on Line

My Mac Mail send stopped working during a large number of mail sends yesterday.Could that be an issue? If so, what to do?
Message further reads - The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.mail.me.com.
I deleted the account and set it up again, but still can't get the mail out. Same messages
If I go on to iCloud, mail send is working fine.
Can anyone see anything wrong or suggest what to do?

  • Messages on Mac not working?

My messages will not work on my Macbook Pro I seem to have the same problem with my Facetime, this message keeps appearing everytime I try to sign in telling me to contact apple and do this imessage registriation and provide them with a validation code it gives me.But when I called they wouldn't help unless I paid 20 bucks? Someone please help!   P.S I am running on Mavericks

    Hi,
Have not seen that for a while.
It was seen early in Mountain Lion and Messages 7.0 but seemed to be resolved with the OS X 10.8.2 update that updated Messages to 7.0.1
I am not aware that anyone reported being charged before but I also know of no other way to resolve it.
As A first step though I would go to the Apple Menu > About this Mac.
Click twice on the line that states the OS level
This will change to the Build Number (And alternative OS version counting system) and then to the Serial Number.
If the Serial Number is missing you will need to visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) and have it added to the Logic/mother board.
Sometimes during repair or refurbishment people forget tot "Flash" the board with the Serial Number.
This was what was added to the OS X 10.8.2 updated to Messages.
If one appears to be present compare it to the label on the back of the machine.
