Messages remain in inbox after being deleted or moved to other folders

Spent 2 hours yesterday cleaning out my in box, deleting and filing emails, only to find everything right back where it was? I have an exchange account and have never had this happen. Nothing has changed with anything on account or computer.

I should mention that the transferred message also remains in my Inbox even if I delete it from my Inbox after having transferred it to another mailbox. Once I "delete" it from the Inbox, it will turn gray (from black), and will disappear if I hit Apple-L to "Hide Deleted Messages." But it will be right back again in the Inbox, as black as ever, the next time I return from another mailbox to the Inbox, even if I have chosed "Erase all Deleted Messages" in the meantime.
This is very annoying. I'll sure appreciate help.
Thank you.

  • Messages reappearing in inbox after being moved or deleted

I upgraded to Snow Leopard a couple weeks ago from Leopard. Since then I have noticed a bizarre bug in Mail:
A message that I had moved from my inbox to another folder kept reappearing in the inbox. I tried moving it repeatedly and deleting it, and it would keep coming back later that day.
After reading advice on this forum, I tried rebuilding my inbox and the folder that should have contained the message. I thought this fixed it, but now ANOTHER message is doing the same thing. This message is from the same day as the other offender, and I feel like this is not a coincidence. (For the record, that date is not the same as the date that I upgraded.)
This is getting really annoying (I like to keep a clean inbox) so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

You probably also need to use Rebuild on the target mailbox that you are moving messages to, but the following will take care of all mailboxes. This is almost certain to be an indexing problem. Try using the procedure described in the following:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html
Note the special instructions to remove the account folders for any Exchange or IMAP accounts, which apparently you do not have.

  • Mail moves incoming MobileMe mail to "Inbox" after being selected

My wife has three mail accounts, one of which is MobileMe. Under her Inbox I see the three inboxes labeled with the account names (Optonline, .Mac, etc). When mail comes in, it goes to the appropriate Inbox mailbox.
However, when you click on the .Mac mailbox, and see messages, as soon as you single click on a message it vanishes - however, you do see it in "Inbox". the problem with this is the .Mac messages get lost in the clutter.
Is there something I can do that will prevent this from occurring? That is, what I'd like is to have the same behavior as Optonline - the messages stay in the appropriate inbox mailbox til deleted or moved.

I've been having a similar problem with a single message. I was unable to remove it from the inbox, but not only would it re-appear when I trashed it, but it would add another copy of itself. This happened in a folder I put it into and in the inbox, simultaneously. Luckily, the cmd-x trick worked for me.
After going through the three folders containing the message (the inbox, the folder I had put it in and the trash), I quit Mail. Like it had been doing, it hung, and I was forced to force quit it. When i re-opened Mail, a single copy of the message was in my mailbox. I did the cmd-x, and then force quit Mail, because (once again) it hung on quit. I reopened Mail and the message was there once again, but when I clicked on it, it showed the "this message has not been downloaded from the server" message. When I cut the message and quit Mail didn't hang, and now it's behaving.

    Hi, sophiaskoub.
Thank you for the question.  The most common cause for this is having Automatic Downloads enabled on the secondary computer.  See the first article on how to disable this feature.  The other attached articles cover how to delete media from iTunes and hiding any purchases that have been made.

  • TS3276 why the emails keep coming into my inbox after I delete them?

My emails keep coming into my inbox after I deleted them. Why is that?

It sounds like your ISP's Mail Server is an IMAP type that retains the Mail on the Server.  You need to go into your Mail> Preferences>Accounts> and set the Mail to Delete from the Server, after a set amount of time.
    Hope this helps

  • Issue with emails being deleted from my Yahoo mail folders

Hi, I am experiencing an issue where emails are being deleted from my Yahoo mail folders when the weekly Sunday night purge of the Yahoo Trash folder is carried out by Yahoo. These are mails that have been moved from my inbox via the iphone mail app.
I have a similar problem with Outlook 2010 on my laptop but not with Outlook 2003 on my desktop.
When I move the emails from my inbox I have noticed that using Outlook 2003, the moved email is left in my inbox in "strikethrough" mode whereas on Outlook 2010 it is deleted from my inbox. I subsequently purge the marked email from my inbox in 2003.
I am able to see and access the emails in the folder I have moved them to until after midnight on Sunday when they dissappear. The emails moved via 2003 are ok and not lost.
Funnily enough when using an earlier version of the iphone mail app I remember that I could see emails in "strikethrough" mode in Outlook 2003 when they had been moved via the iPhone mail app but you don't see that now.
It feels like some sort of pointer issue to me ...... any ideas on how to stop this happening?.

This is now fixed !!!! I am not sure how though :-((
I reported the problem to Yahoo and in the process of them investigating the issue my sub-folders suddenly became invisible via my IMAP connection and then also were invisible on-line following a log out and a log in. After my initial panic, I contacted Yahoo who were able to restore my complete account. Since then, the problem has gone away.
I have been testing this for two weeks and all is working perfectly from whatever device I use to connect to my mail (IMAP or via my browser).
    Phew!

  • Outlook 2010 / SBS2011 Exchange Emails being deleted when moved to another mailbox

    Hi All,
I have an SBS2011 std, using exchange 2010
User A has full access permission to mailboxes B and C
In Outlook 2010 they have the additional mailboxes visible automatically (ie. not via the "more settings" tab in outlook set up)
Recently when user moves a message from their inbox A, into a folder of the other mailbox B or C, or the inbox of that user, the message is very quickly deleted, and ends up having to be recovered from the "recover deleted items" section of the
    users Deleted Folder.
    (Hope that makes sense)
Previously I understand they were able to move emails in this way, between mailboxes.
Can anyone confirm if this should a) be possible and b) what might have changed or be going wrong?
The server was patched and rebooted last night to try and fix the issue but it is still continuing.
    Thanks,
    JJ

    Hi,
Does this issue happen to a certain user or all users in the environment?
What if we just move emails within the same mailbox, will this issue continues?
How did the user move the emails? If they moved by dragging/dropping, please try right clicking the email and select Move > Other Folder...
If this issue only happen to certain user, I'd recommend you
create a new mail profile for that use and then test again.
In addition, do you have any antivirus software installed? If so, please disable the antivirus integration with Outlook to check the result. See:

  • Apple Mail 6.0 In Box now includes messages moved to other folders

All Mail converstions with the same subject appear with a new message in my In Box eventhough many of those emails with the same subject have been moved to another Mail Box.  For example, I use Salesforce.  Thoughout the day I will receive emails with the subject "A lead has been assigned to you".  After I have delt with these leads I click on the trash can and delete these messages.  Now after installing Mountain Lion with Apple Mail 6.0, in the Preview screen I see the emails that are in my In Box plus all other email with the same subject.  In this case there are sever hundred.
How do I get my In Box preview to just show the current messages and not messages in other folders with the same subject line?

You are correct that this changed with Mountain Lion.  I have one Mac still running Lion and when I checked it the "Include Related Messages" box is not checked.  So I assume that the upgrade to Mountain Lion checked this box during th upgrade process.
I have experimented by unchecking and checking this this option to Include Related Messages.  One feature I like is if I have replied to a message the sent reply appears shaded above the message I have replied to in my In Box or any folder/mail box where I move the message.
Bottom line, now that I am getting use to the change, I like it and will leave the Include Related Messages box checked.  The only drawback I see is that unrelated messages that have been moved to other folders and are not really part of the thread appear in the threaded message.

  • Why are my emails coming back to my inbox after I delete them?

After I delete emails off of my phone they come back into the inbox the next time I go to my email. Does anyone know what I can do to keep them off my phone once deleted?

Your email account must be a POP type, and you have it set NOT to delete the email from the server when deleting from your inbox.  The email remains on your server and gets sent to your inbox again when it's remove from there.  POP accounts are not designed to send to more than one email client.
Settings > Mail.... > (your account) > Advanced > Delete from server > When removed from inbox

  • Why are my inbox emails being deleted

I've looked at related posts but none seem to solve this problem: Inbox emails are automatically being deleted. Occasionally a "inbox folder is full" message briefly appears, but before any action can be taken, the emails disappear. Repairing the folder doesn't work and no settings have changed. Recent messages still appear on webmail (Cox). Retention settings are set not to delete mail, and server settings are set to leave messages on server until I delete them.

  • Photos taking up space after being deleted?

I have the iPhone 5c and I plug my phone in and delete all of my pictures about once every 2 months. I went to do it today and after I deleted my all my photos it said that I had 1884 photos, or 3 GB of space being taken up by them. I went on my phone and there are no photos whatsoever in my camera roll or in my recently deleted folder. Why on iTunes and in my Usage in Settings does it say that my photos are taking up so much space?

    Hello gabbylara11,

This article should help in clearing out space taken up after you have deleted your photos.
