Messages screen share connection issues

Greetings.
I have three Macs:  a MacBook Pro (mine)  at site A, and two iMacs at site B (friends).  All three have Mountain Lion.  All three have their firewall turned off.
I am seeing strange issues when trying to screen share.  I can share my screen, but I cannot successfully request to see theirs - connection/port issue.
Also, if they attempt to share their screen from their side: no go.
Why would it work one way but not another?  Is there a port being blocked on either of the two site's routers?

I finally isolated what the problem was after several days of trouble shooting this problem. I am not going to go into any trouble shooting specifics, but here is what the solution was:
1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
2. Choose View > Sharing.
3. Click the Firewall tab.
4. Click New.
5. Choose VNC from the Port Name pop-up menu.
6. Click OK and close system preferences
I am really befuddled as to why I only had to use this solution on the G3 Tower B/W since it had Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed on it just like two other Mac’s my local network.

  • Cannot Maintain Stable Screen Share Connection New MacBook Pro

I am having some difficulty maintaining a stable screen share connection. It just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. It has nothing to do with my network as I have tested it from 5 machines and it's only this one.
Has anyone else experienced this with the new MacBook/ MacBook Pro's?
    I have  MacBook Pro - 15" 2.53Ghz/4GB RAM/320GB @ 5400RPM
    Thanks,
    Dean

A little update. I have found what caused this.
When my MacBook Pro was trying to Screen Share to my iMac it would ONLY drop out when connected to this particular machine. The iMac is a 24" Aluminum 2.4Ghz it is running @ 1920 x 1200 with a 23" Apple Cinema Display connected to it @ 1920 x1200.
When I mirror the display the screen-share connection stays stable. Only when I change it to Extended does this issue occur. I am wondering if any other users have experienced this? Possibly it could be a bug in the OS as it doesn't like multiple displays during screen share.

  • Screen Share connection problems

I have an iMac and a MacBookPro on my home network. I used to be able to share screens between them quickly, trivially, painlessly. For a while now, though, it never (or rarely) works. Not sure, but possibly began after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    Setup:
    Snow Leopard on both computers
ADSL Modem -> Airport Extreme -> Wireless connection to MBP and iMac. (both are within seven meters of the Airport Extreme
    What happens?
I'll try to connect and it just says "establishing connection" forever. Eventually it might say "Connection Failed" but not give any other diagnostic.
Everything else works ok -- shared time capsules, access to the internet, etc.
Advice on how to debug this problem? I tried it last night w/ a brand new MacBook, and had the same issues.

Make sure that both ends are set to Screen Share (as in, receiving), and make sure both can "see" the other.

  • Screen share movie issues (Mac)

I'm trying to stream a movie to my friend by using screen share and my computer's Dvd Player but when they try to view the Dvd screen it just shows up as a grey/white checkerboard for them however they can hear it. I don't understand why it's doing this and it seems like many other people have had these issues in the past. Please help us. We were so excited to finally be able to watch movies together and now we can't.

Probably a DRM issue. Something is telling your software that a second screen is being used and its not authorized too. http://www.cnet.com/news/hdcp-2-2-what-you-need-to-know/

  • Z1 compact touch screen and connectivity issues

    Hi,
I bought a new Z1 compact in Feb 2014, I encountered issues that tool bar on the top moved up and down automatically and movely very fast on the first day, also, the new device auto turned on wifi, bluetooth then disconnected 3G connectivity (default) then the screen started to pop up different screens.
The vendor where i purchased replaced  brand new device to me, but so far, it has been the 3rd brand new Z1 compact device and I continued encountering the above issues again and again that I would appreciate to obtain direct support from SONY rather than endless change to new device but same issues are still there.
I recorded those abnormal screen shots, if necessary, i can upload those issues for your easy reference and check further.
looking forward to your solution and advice.

  • Screen Share Connects, Then Disconnects

I am having a problem with screen sharing starting, then stopping due to inactivity. My dad and I have used this screen sharing in the past, and it worked well because it was so easy using iChat. I am a complete novice when it comes to ports and protocols and such, so I am at a complete loss on where to even start to fix this problem. I am good with computers and can get around in them quite easily, but I just never have understood this particular aspect. I don't think either one of us has changed anything lately to cause the problem, but it is happening none the less (I did get a MobileMe account before it started happening). Can anyone try and tell me what I should do or check in "layman's" terms. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am connected using a Linksys wireless router. I set my router up as per the instructions, with WAP or WEP (can't remember which one). I am using Road Runner, so I don't think I had to do any special things to the router to make it work. My father has a verizon DSL modem attached directly to his iMac, and I am pretty sure he had help from Verizon to set his up. I have not changed anything on my end, and to my knowledge he hasn't either (besides he is not computer savvy enough to even know where to go to change anything). But this configuration worked fine for over two years or so (whenever leopard came out). It seems like the last two times we have tried using it, we get this time out error. I did read something in somebodies response about iChat and MobileMe might be a clue. I did recently join MobileMe, and it was probably since then that we have had the problem. Not exactly sure if that might be a player. Not sure if that is the kind of information you were looking for. Thanks.

  • Can't connect via Screen Share or Web Server, but can ping and ssh

Bit of an odd problem here.
My Mountain Lion Mac Pro (called "Trogdor" for convenience) is connected to my work university network. I can ping it from anywhere-- elsewhere on the network, from home behind a firewall. Can connect over ssh from everywhere. I can also connect to other computers (on the same network or at home behind a firewall) from Trogdor via ssh, Screen Sharing, etc.
But I can't Screen Share into Trogdor, and I can't connect to Trogdor's built-in web server, either system-wide (in /Library/WebServer) or for my username (~/Sites). (I can connect to the web server from Trogdor.)
Note that I can do both of these for other computers on the same network (same subnet, etc), so it's not a network issue. I can't do these from anywhere: same network or from home. I have this problem whether I use Trogdor's hostname or its IP address. (I can look up its hostname using the IP address with the "host" tool in Terminal, and vice versa.)
So it sounds like a port issue, right? Except I don't think I've ever messed with my port settings directly. How do I diagnose the problem? Should I scan my ports? Can I return port settings to default?
    Thanks!

  • Can't screen share in messages osx mountain lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have been unable to connect to someone else's computer via Messages and share their screen.  I use this to help my parents with computer problems.
I have checked, and their "capabilities" do not show screen sharing, but I never had a problem with this before.  Any suggestions?

  • Poor connection issue sends message "Verizon customer is not available" to callers rather than to VM!

My phone is my business.  It's the only way I have for clients to reach me to schedule appointments.  Most of my clients are new at this point.  While my latest of 5 replacement phones don't drive me AS crazy with connection issues, it's driving my husband crazy as he daily gets told I'm not available and can't even leave a voicemail (which is usually yelling at me to dump this piece of crap phone).  If he gets that message daily, I wonder how many clients I'm losing from getting the message as well!!  With corporate discounts of 25%, I have still spent over $450 on this phone, all but the screen saver at the Verizon store.  I was given the option of "upgrading" to a Razr last time.  PLEASE!  The CR tried telling me it was newer (don't think so, pretty sure it was on the display right next to my Nexus in Dec), better camera (very debatable, and with much lesser quality screen, who cares about more mp?!), and that I bought my phone 8-9 months ago but it had been available much longer.  Umm, I bought it the week it was released.  I don't think 2 days can be considered "much longer".
I'm going to try the switch to straight CDMA that seems to work for some with connection dropping, because I can't afford clients getting that message (they understand being sent to voicemail if I'm in a session), but... I bought this phone with a price tag of $299, paid another 99 for insurance, screen saver, gel case, extra battery and charger when my first phone port was shot after 7 months waiting for replacement, and luckily haven't bothered w/ screen savers for the weekly replacements or I'd have to add another $100 to the cost.  This is a flagship phone with a flagship starting contract cost, and the best they can do is send out refurbs that have the same issue over and over.  My guess is the turnover is so great they don't go through the normal testing and repairs of typical refurbs.  Take these refurbs off the market when they're returned with bad radio!  I'd consider a GS3, Razr Maxx, or maybe even the upcoming RazrM (though that would def be a downgrade considering the starting cost and we don't know yet of what issues it will have, but I like the size and battery life), though it sucks that I'd be spending another $50 just on case and screen saver.
Anyone else experience the unavailable issue and get it resolved? I'm so tired of calling tech support.  And why can't they just put the phone number right on the "contact us" page like normal companies??

I certainly understand the need to have an operable device!  Please DM me your name and mobile number, so I may further assist you.  Thank you!

  • Suddenly can't connect to shared computers or screen share

For some reason I can no longer connect to my shared computers. I can however connect to MY computer from my shared computers, if that makes sense.
From my own computer, when I go to my shared list in the finder, I click on a computer (normally it all automatically connects because I have the password remembered), I click "connect as" and I never get any response, sometimes a "connection failed" I know file sharing is enabled on all computers.
Is there a way to refresh my list? What can I do to reconnect to my shared computers? This seems to have been happenings since I last updated the OS.
Also, I can no longer do a screen share where I was doing this regularly every day.
    Thanks

i noticed they said that facetime will basically be taking over video calls on the mac and that Messager will take over ichat, but i'm worried they're going to drop all the nice features they had on ichat, like being able to share screens while video chatting with someone. or being able to chat with 2 people at once on a video call.
has anyone downloaded the beta of this yet and tried it out? i'm very curious

    Hi,
You can start a Video chat with one Buddy and then chose Screen Share and providing you and the Buddy are using UPnP to open ports it will instantly convert to a Screen Share.
A Screen Share is only 1-1 and is technically an Audio Chat +
The Plus bit is an VNC connection alongside the Audio Chat.
This VNC connection uses a random port - hence the need to use UPnP to open the ports in the router (Or Port Mapping Protocol) in  Apple Base Station.
There used to be Add-ons that allowed the Desktop as Video Feed which would have been a sort of Screen Share but none of these have been updated for Lion.
An Example is iUSBCam  (ShowMacster was another - My link no longer works)
CamCamX maybe a possibility if it works in Lion  (It does say it neess iUSBCam for iChat)

  • Just downloaded 10.5.  It gives me a blank screen for the itunes store.  No error message.  Internet connection fine.  Have checked firewall.  Any ideas?

I have just downloaded 10.5.  it gives me a blank screen for the itunes store.  No error message.  Internet connection fine and I have checked my firewall settings.  Any ideas?  Or is the store blocked because of ios 5 release today?

I've had the exact same issue since late last night since I downloaded 10.5
I'm also having problems backing up my iPhone, which I suspect is due to the same issue.
I've tried all recommended solutions on forums and Apple support (deleting backups, restarting phone/computer, disabling/uninstalling third party security software, testing port connectivity) and none of them work.
I will try japiohelp's solution and see if that does anything.

  • Sharer folder issue between two directly connected PC

Dear All, I have an issue regarding folder sharing. need your help to resolve this. the scenario is
two PC's are connected directly to share a folder, to open *.mdb file of a accounting software. this problem start when I moved windows XP PC's and installed windows 7 64 bit PC's. there is no compatibility issue as I run the same software on other
    locations
PC A (192.168.1.200) has that *.mdb file and PC B (192.168.1.100) has to open this file through a network.
when I configured the folder share  and network setting, all done well and PC B can connect with PC A and that software work well. After two days, when we start the software at PC B, its not responding when  it try's to open that database file.
while analyzing, I found out that PC B can open the share folder of PC A but when open the desired database folder explore starts not responding and need to quit it by force. I also tried to share another folder of PC A but results are same.
PC A run the software with out any problem.
It seems like network issue, so I check the cable with cable tester, found it good, than I check the connectivity by ping command, it giving me <1ms time. but still change the connectors.
the hard part is that, this share folder issue arises 3-4 days a week and 2-3 days it works well, and this is happening from last 28 days. I mean, one day we start the the PC B and use the software via network, the next day we start the PC B and we don't
    able to use the software,..strange.
I also change the cable connection from cross to straight as both new PC's have gigabit Ethernet but results are same.
I already contact with software company, as per them its network issue as we can use the software on local PC (PC A) and there is no error messages popup.
please help me out in this regard.
    Thanks Tanveer

    Hi,
Firstly, we need to identify is this file sharing or netowrking problem. If you can access to the shared folder and modify its files which locate at PC B through PC A, it indicates file sharing works with no problem.
After that, we need to check if its networking or software itself problem when reading the .mdb file.
Put the .mdb file at PC A, then using the software open it for test. If no problem, we need to use Process Monitor to capture the access trace of the software process, we should be able to find some clues.

  • Messages App| connectivity issues since upgrading to Mavericks

is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I will start a desktop share session with my folks (IMAC) and within 2-3 minutes of having access to their desktop, I'm unable to control any longer and their system freezes.

    HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

  • Hi, tried to download Amazon, asked to update my security, push continue..screen goes white then error message saying' cannot connect to app store' but I'm already on it!

hi, I'm a novice..be gentle! Tried to download Amazon Free... Asked to update my security I pushed OK...screen went white, then an error message saying ' Cannot connect to App Store', however I am already on it! Pls help!!

Are you trying to download the amazon store app? Does this happen with all apps or just amazon?
    Try this
Make sure IOS is updated to latest version
(How to update your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623)
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings  (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').
(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).
