Messages sends message to wrong account despite explicit selection

All the time I am sending messages to the wrong service for users, even after explicitly selecting to right one. In Messages, I have Google Talk, AIM (for the one person who still uses it, haha), my work Jabber account, and iMessage configured. The problem is when I have accounts for one individual in my Contacts under multiple services. For example, I may have John Doe's Google Talk username, and their phone number which I can iMessage.
If I open a new message to John Doe on Google Talk, and verify the message has the Google Talk username selected (and states my Google Talk name next to it) in the drop down at the top of the message, when I hit send it will sometimes go to iMessage instead. This is very repeatable. It seems like what happens is Messages switches the new message to whatever account I received a message from John Doe last, despite my explicit selection.
Needless to say this is very obnoxious, especially since I cannot count on my selections actually being being obeyed.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and figured out a way around this bug? I keep hoping Apple will fix it, but I've run into this problem in previous versions of Messages prior to Yosemite being released, but I am still having this maddening issue after the upgrade. I cannot not be the only one.

I don't always want to use the same one... for example, if they're signed on to Google Talk, I'd like to message them there instead of sending an iMessage to their phone.
Even if I double click their name in my Google Talk buddy list, it will open saying I am going to message them with Google Talk, but it was switch when I hit send.

I have 4 email accounts in apple Mail.  My mail is sending from the wrong account.  even on "reply" it sends from a different account.  I have 3 gmail accounts and one exchange server account. I choose which account to send from and it still sends from the same gmail account.  Help.

I HAD two accounts because of this problem.  I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client.  Guess what is happening??  That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening.  This is incredibly frustrating.  When a recipient chooses to reply to my message, quite often I won't get it now because it is going to the other account that has now been deleted from my system.  COME ON APPLE!!! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS???

  • Mail is sending email from wrong account.

Every time I send or reply to an email it sends from my wifes account.  If people reply to it, it goes back to her account.  when I compose a new email I use the drop down menu that says from: *******@me.com, I make sure its from my account and I send it.  When it gets to the person its says its from my wife.  I have look in the preferences and it is using selected account to send from. I have tried to force it to only send from my account but it always sends from my wifes account.  Any Ideas?

Where is the "Reply to" in Mail preferences?
Not in Preferences. That usually works for a message-by-message basis.
With a message composition window open in Apple Mail make the following menu selection:
    View > Reply-To Address Field.
    If it's blank, fine.
It is possible to make it permanent via Terminal, someone would have had to do it at some stage; just wanted to ensure it was not fixed.
Do check the SMTP servers set for each account.

  • Gmail emails sending out of wrong account without my knowledge in Mail app

I'm having problems with my Mail app sending out emails out of the wrong Gmail account. This was happening to me in Mountain Lion amongst other Mail app headaches, and I was able to fix it after weeks and weeks of troubleshooting. In Mavericks, the Mail app was mostly working correctly.
When I updated to Yosemite (did a clean install), I thought my Mail app was working correctly. At the end of November, I had some iCloud issues asking for passwords for all my apps. I had to remove iCloud in System Preferences and I added it back on. Anyway, here is my issue:
    1. I have three gmail accounts, let's called them: primary@gmail, subscription@gmail and business@gmail. Over a year ago, I removed the business@gmail from the Mail app because the job was done. The primary@gmail and subscription@gmail were the only active gmail accounts I had in my Mail app.
    2. The beginning of December, I sent some emails out of [email protected] and the emails were in my Sent folder in the Mail app so I knew they were sent out. I didn't receive any responses to my emails and began to wonder. It wasn't until a friend emailed me on my personal@gmail and asked if I was using my business@gmail account again because he said I haven't responded to any of his emails he sent there.
    3. I went into business@gmail in webmail and there were all the emails responses. I forwarded them to my primary@gmail account and in the Mail app I looked at View>Message>Raw Source and I saw that the emails first tried to use my SMTP from primary@gmail but ended up using my business@gmail account which was no longer active in the Mail app. So when the people hit "Reply" to my emails they were sent to business@gmail in webmail.
What bothers me a lot is that I was not notified by the Mail app that the business@gmail SMTP would be used and I deleted the business@gmail from the Mail app over year ago so I didn't even think of it.
I went through my Mail Preferences Account Information and looked at Edit SMTP List. I had all these Gmail SMTPs there so I deleted all of them to start fresh. I left the iCloud SMTP info as it was.
When I tried to add a new Gmail account in System Preferences under Internet Accounts, it would only allow me to add one Gmail account and not another Gmail account. After a few tries, I was finally able to add the second Gmail account. I did go and look at Accounts in the Mail Preferences and I properly assigned the two Gmail accounts to only use the Gmail SMPT that is assigned to it.
    Here are my questions.
Do I need to do anything else to make sure that the Gmail accounts in Mail app settings remain as they are and this doesn't happen again. I've made sure that business@gmail is not in my Previous Recipients or in my Contacts.
I've noticed that the SMTP for iCloud is listed as "None" some of the time and I have to keep selecting iCloud over and over again. I'm hesitate to remove iCloud from my Mail app because I had to do this at the end of November when I had the iCloud password thing happen and I had a big problem getting my Notes data back.
If I remove the Mail.plist in Users Library, would I have to go through all the settings in Gmail webmail and Mail App or would some of the settings be there?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You set it up, and you failed to distinguish between the SMTP servers or assign the correct one to your copy of Mail (it doesn't actually know which is which, you need to inform it)
Open Mail>Preferences>Accounts (NOT Mail>Accounts) and go down to the SMTP server list, choose the correct server for each account then check the box that says 'Use Only This Server' for each account.
This is not automatic, you get to choose and if you don't then this will result.
    Remove the non functional ones.

  • Sending from the wrong account

I recently stopped using my comcast account in Mail, and started only using my .mac account. I removed the comcast account under preferences, but when I compose a message it still automatically selects [email protected] as the primary sender of the e-mail. I will usually not catch it and send the e-mail only to be rejected by the .mac smtp server. Then, I simply select the right address and send again without problem.
Is there anyway to get rid of the comcast option when I compose an e-mail where it will automatically send the message from my .mac address?

Go to Mail, then under Mail choose Preferences and see which account you have checked as the default email account.  Also, before you send an email, look to see which account the email is being sent from, that appears with the address information in the upper portion of the Mail window.  You can change the From account before sending if it is not what you want.

  • Email is sending from the wrong account?

    Hey guys
My computer's mail system is sending out my emails from the wrong email. I have 3 emails hooked up to my mailing system and one of them is a school email for a club I run and often times, I'll be sending out a personal email and it'll say that I sent it from my school email when in my outbox and sent mail that I sent it from my personal email. This is getting really annoying. Help would be much appreciated!

Go to Mail, then under Mail choose Preferences and see which account you have checked as the default email account.  Also, before you send an email, look to see which account the email is being sent from, that appears with the address information in the upper portion of the Mail window.  You can change the From account before sending if it is not what you want.

  • Sending an invite sends from the wrong account

I have several email addresses and I prepared an iCal meeting event for work, but when I sent the emails it didn't give me a chance to specify which address I was sending *it from it sent them from the wrong address*.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Eric

You may have already worked this out, but perhaps there are others wondering how to get around this too:
    1. you need to have your card set up in address book (AB)
    2. go to AB preferences and change email type in templates to the one you want iCal to use by default-this will then appear as the first email address in your own card in AB
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Bpm,COLLECT AND SEND MESSAGES

    Hi all,
    My scenario is as follows:
Get user ids from SAP(receive step) ->
Make syncronous call to get Roles from SAP(send sync) ->
Append response message to message list ->
Make syncronous call to get roles from SRM(send sync) ->
Append response message to message list(both are same MT) ->
Transform message list to new message ->
Send message with to external system
The problem is that only the roles from the first message are sent to the external system. It did not map and send the second message. What do you have to do to get both messages sent in the same send step? Is it possible?
I set the message occurs for the source to 0...unbounded and the message occurance for the target to 1 per the pattern for both the message map and the message interface.

    chris

    Sorry
Wrong place to post this question

  • SMS message send failure

Trying to text yet every text sent says message send failure.
This is despite the recipient actually getting some of them.
I've tried turning off and on, going to airplane mode, changing carrier to manual.
    It's very frustrating!
    Please help!

Do you have wifi calling switched on ? If so this is the reason. Wifi calling has issues with text messages sending.

Why won't I message send messages from my number? It keeps using my email address. I have signed in and out of my apple id several times but no luck, I have also restored my phone. Imessage says it is waiting for activation could this be the problem?

Hi, thanks for the answer, I did that already. Unfortunatly this doesn't help me at all, as I often forget to check the menu. For me composing the message is writing the text, the subject, the person to who is addressed and than press "send".
I often forget to check the "from", and this is a problem because the software select itself one of the accounts.
Isn't there a way at least to put as a default a blank field instead of one of the accounts? or an account which doesn't work so if I forget to specify the "from" I will be rnotofied that the message can't be sent.
I guess this could be a rather common problem for many people!
    Thanks

  • Mail 8.2 Sending Messages from Wrong Email Account

This has been happening more often than not lately on the Mail 8.2 app. It's driving me crazy, and really messing up my business since I have a professional email (using Outlook) and a personal email (Gmail).
Both email accounts are setup on my Mac Mail. What has been happening is that when I write an email with my professional email (Outlook) and hit send everything seems fine and it will send (like it should!). It shows up in my sent messages in the Mac Mail app under my Outlook account and everything, great!... Oh, but the thing is, it doesn't really send from my Outlook account.
When I log into my Outlook account on my web browser, the email is not shown to have been sent. But, When I log into my Gmail account on the web... What?! There is the message in my Gmail sent folder! How??? It has my signature from my Outlook account and everything. To add to the strangeness, when I look at my Mail app on my iPhone, it says that the email was sent from my Gmail, and not my Outlook...
So, Mail on my Mac says sent from intended email account (Outlook), but in reality it somehow gets magically sent from my personal Gmail account... and shows up on the webpages and my iPhone as sent form Gmail... This doesn't happen every time. Just when Mail feels like it I guess, HA!
This is frustrating. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I never know if people are getting my emails, but I finally got the fluke to happen with a friend. Voila, in fact when this happens even though it's being sent in Mail though my Outlook account, my friend receives the email from my Gmail account with my Outlook signature...
What is going on? Is anyone else having this issue?
I need my personal and professional messages synced to my iPhone and Mac, or I would just say good riddance to the Mac Mail app.
I will just have to start sending my professional messages form the Outlook webpage until this is fixed. This is really unprofessional Apple. I never had this issue prior to Yosemite.
Hope this made since, it's the best I can make of it.
    Thanks!

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select

When sending messages to one of our iPhones, the wrong name of the sender appears. The phone also does not notify the receiver. This started after we purchased in iPad and attempted sending that phone an iMessage.

Hi buddy, I figured out what is wrong with that. I had the very same issue, while sending an sms via iMessage on Mountain Lion. I called the Apple guy at the Apple care support but without any luck.
At the end--at least in my case, but it could also be yours--I think I have understood what was going on. This happens when you have your Apple ID registered on more than one device. In my case, we have two iPhones--one for me and one for my wife--but with the same App Store account. So, when I sent an sms via iMessage for the Mac, the receiver was shown my wife's iPhone number.
I hope I have been clear enough, you know, explaining this in a foreing language is always painful...
    Ciao,
    Antonio
P.S.: this could be true for similar issues (iMessage wrong sender) that I've read in the Mountain Lion, iPad and iPod forums.

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that
