Messages Share Screen stopped

OK
My mum IM'ed me today.
Asked to share her screen via (now) Messages, formerly iChat.
As I have done before...
I went to do so, and it came up with an error saying "connection failed"
Can I ask, is this another bug based on Mountain Lion, or does both computers have to now have Mountain Lion?
My mother's comuter has Leopard, she tells me.
Thanks in advance

Oh, I don't doubt it was something very specifically screwy on that Mac mini that somehow got exacerbated by Mountain Lion. My original install of Lion on that mini a year ago hung at the end. I had to do a clean install of Snow Leopard and then upgraded over that. It was then I discovered Lion 10.7.0 had a bug that disabled the Mac mini's analog out ability until restart if a digital signal was sent at all. This killed my Mac mini as a HTPC and led to it's transition to a headless server instead.
What was great about that bug was it apparently also affected some 10.6.8 users (I wasn't affected). A "10.6.8 Supplemental Update" was released to fix that issue a few days later. I filed a bug with Apple for 10.7, it was marked as a "known issue" and remained unfixed until 10.7.1 came out almost a month later.
The Mac mini worked for another few months until 10.7.2 came out in October. That upgrade also hung, and another full reinstall of Lion was needed. It's worked fine since then, with the exception of iCal, iCloud, QuickTime, iPhoto, and iTunes bugs that have been present on all my Macs and confirmed as "known issues" with Apple. And now with 10.8.0, the Mac mini has broken again.
In general, since Lion came out and iCloud has come online, I've had more problems with my Apple products than I can ever remember. They've all gone from being rock stable to buggy peices of junk. If this issue with Mountain Lion is the start of a similar trend for 10.8 and iOS 6, I may have to think about transitioning to another platform. It's gotten to be just as time intesive to keep everything working right as on Windows!

Mac Messages Share my Screen quit working some time ago.  The internet said there is a problem recognizing AIM accounts.  Yet when I try to add another account AOL is an option.  Is there a webpage that provides a solution?

    Hi,
AIM stands for Aol Instant Messenger.
It is only recently though that Apple have changed the Add account pane to read AOL when adding an account that works with the AIM service.
In Messages check the Video menu (Where Screen Sharing is) and select the Connection Doctor item.
In the panel that opens check the drop down for the Capabilities info
You need the Internet Speed to be able to Video to be able to Screen Share.
In Messages > Preferences > Video section you may have set the Bandwidth limit too low.
If it is set to 100kbps it will not work (you may not be able to Video either)
The 500kbps setting will get you above the amount needed to Host a 4 way Video chat which will be enough for Screen Sharing as well.
If the computer is doing something On line when you start the Messages app this will distort the speed available and it may not store the right info about your capabilities.
For example starting the app at the same time as the computer may mean the computer does not have a internet connection at the time the app finishes getting read.  Or starting the app when another app or the computer is doing a download will also effect things.
However a long term issue is more likely to be the settings in the pic above.

    we can now video chat.
    we can use ichat theater.
    we cannot share screens
connection speeds for the imac are 3mbps down and 600kbps up

what happens when we try to share screens:
we get a fail to connect message. but, for a second or two i can hear the other person, then the connection fails... i have seen the screen sharing starting message, but it would stop and fail. 3 seconds tops..

  • Message "itunes has stopped working". Itunes opens and can read an audio cd but as soon as the "get information" option is selected the message "itunes has stopped working" and the computer freezes or at least slows to a snail's pace.

    Hi,
I have a PC running Windows 7 - 64bit OS. I have had iTunes installed since the beginning of the year on this computer and have not had any trouble with it except actually using iTunes but that is a different issue. The other day I inadvertently downloaded "Tuneup" which I don't want or need. I firstly want to say I have no concrete evidence that Tuneup has led to my problems. It may be coincidental that Tuneup and my problems appeared together.
Tonight when I started iTunes, Tuneup took over a quarter of the screen on the right side. I closed this program. When the list of tracks was ready to be loaded from the CD and I went to" file" - "get info" option the message "iTunes has stopped working" would appear. Closing this message resulted in iTunes shutting down. I should say that before I closed the message the computer had essentially ground to a halt. The other curious thing was the behavour of the mouse pointer on the screen - the only place where it was visible was in the "iTunes has stopped working" box. Moving it out of the message box resulted in it disappearing. It would reappear if it were caused to wander into the message box.
I subsequently removed Tuneup (control panel, programs and features, etc...) iTunes had not improved. I then deleted iTunes, firstly saving the library to a file on the desktop. Then I did a fresh(?) install of ITunes but there seems to be no change. A curious thing was even though I had deleted iTunes through the control panel the library was still there as if I had done nothing. The whole thing is a complete mystery and extremely galling.
If someone has had a similar problem I would really like to know what the fixes were.
    Thanks for "listening".
    Cheers,
    Grant Andrews.

I had a similar problem. I'm using 64bit Windows7. The following solution worked for me:
    COPY    QTMovieWin.dll
    FROM    c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support\
    INTO     c:\program files (x86)/iTunes
Also, reinstalling Quicktime has worked for others having this same issue.

  • Finder Share Screen Snow Leopard to Leopard Not Working

Trying to use Share Screen from my new Snow Leopard install to a Leopard machine but only getting a black screen. Have rebooted both machines but still get the same result.

    HI,
Must be the heat wave Do this on the Mac running Snow Leopard.
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.ScreenSharing.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences.
Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart both Macs.
I'm sure you have File Sharing turned on in System Preferences/Sharing on the SL Mac and Personal File Sharing on the Leopard Mac ??
Sometimes after you do the setup, it helps to restart both machines...
If you haven't done so since upgrading to SL, repair disk permissions on the Mac running SL.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • How to add new fields in message creation screen

    Hi All,
My requirement is to add another 2 fields in the message creation screen.
Also I found this link is bit useful.
Add custom fields to Support Message
Can anyone share the detailed procedure to add a field in the message screen.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards
    Narasingam. B

    Hello,
    I think of something like:
First, you create extension, with transaction WE30.
Then, reduce your idoc, your extension should also be proposed.
Do not forget to add this extension in outbound we82, and/or we57 in inbound, and WE20, and find BTE or exit to populate extension.
    regards.

  • TS4196 Share Screen not available

I have tried to use the "Share Screen" function in Messages beta, but I notice that the option is shaded out.  When I asked someone to send me an invitation to share their screen from iChat, I do not appear as available to them.  My setting show I'm available. ??

    Hi,
    No.
Apple effectively let AIM or rather seems to give AIM the Apple IDs so that when you go to either https://settings.aim.com/ with @mac.com names or try to "re-register" and name at the registration page  you will get a message about the name being in use.
At the AIM registration page the full name of the account is technically [email protected]
However in most cases the username  is normally what you use in AIM capable messaging apps.
It is possible to activate the name as email as a separate step.
Currently you may have older @mac.com names from Apple as well as @me.com and @icloud.com issued by the iCloud registration process.
In Messages and iChat 6 all these variants will work.
However in iChat 5 and earlier version only the @mac.com names will work due to this Dual Login that the last two version make to me.com as well as AIM.com that allows the password to be "read".
    Summary.
You can't "re-register" an Apple ID as AIM are already aware of it.
AIM can't "see" the password until iChat tells them they can look.
In iChat 6 and Message this includes and extra step that is created by the app also logging in to Me.com and this then confirms that AIM can "read" the password.
AIM names can be any other email if you wish your name to be that email. [email protected] for example  ([email protected] for another).
However creating a new name and to show it will be a name that is @Aim.com but this suffix is rarely used in any app - relying on the username only part.
It can be made to be an active email as a separate step.

My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

    Hi,
    You can't.
Messages - the replacement for iChat in Mountain Lion and beyond will  do Screen Sharing  but only to the accounts it did in iChat 5 and 6  (actually it includes iChat 4 as well)
That is to say in earlier version of iChat you could login to AIM and Jabber servers as well as enabling the Bonjour option to chat on your LAN.
All these will do Video and Audio only chats which in turn means they will Screen Share.
At iChat 6 an Yahoo option was added but it can only Text chat (it can't even send Files or Pics)
This means only the Internet able accounts that login in to AIM or to a Jabber server  can Video and therefore Screen Share.
The iMessages account will Invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during text chat.  (I.e. it is not Video inside the app like the AIM or Jabber accounts can do)
    NOTE.
AIM includes Apple Issued Apple ID as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Google Mail ID s can be used and Google Talk IDs with Messages as they run a Jabber server.
Facebook allow you to create a Chat ID (Facebook Chat ID) which is also a Jabber server.

  • Share Screen Works Fine - How to share sound ?

Just loaded Leopard - testing Share Screen.
I can share the VIDEO of all networked Macs (even non-Leopard) - this is very good !
But how do I share the sound ?
I want to be able to hear error messages etc from remote Macs ...
    Is this possible ?

You can do this one of two ways fairly easily...
    1) Run an Icecast server on the host machine, encode the system audio using Soundflower as the audio source and then stream it on the new machine. Bear in mind audio streaming incurs a lag due to the way it works, so it won't be realtime.
    2) use a readymade solution like Airfoil: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ . It works on a similar basis except it does all the capture, encoding and streaming itself. It works better if you're in a situation where you want cohesion of audio streaming across several devices (so you can stream to an Airport Extreme, another Mac in another room as well). However, from what I've seen Airfoil delays the output by around a second or so to keep it all in sync (and there's no way of changing this).
Near-realtime or realtime high quality audio streaming is the nirvana many of us are trying to seek - I've tried almost everything I can think of tweaking my Icecast setup so I can stream audio in realtime from my home machine to complement my VNC sessions from work, but I have no joy. Even Remote Desktop on PCs has audio lag.
The best I've seen so far in terms of A/V sync is through Logmein Pro, but you have to pay for that and it's massive overkill for what you're trying to achieve.

Same problem here, cannot login into a MacPro (10.6.4) from another MacPro (10.6.4), or from a MacBook (10.6.4), or from a MacBook Pro (10.6.4), all of them located in the same network (intranet).
As the original post, I can mount discs remotely, even ssh into the destination machine, but screen sharing (or even the simple vnc) just does not work.

First step: update Photoshop to 7.0.1.
    Second step:  provide sensible information:

Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),

if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
A screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

  • Why is share screen saying that it is being closed out by a remote user

I'm using my mac mini and I am trying to share screen another computer by using iMessages on my mac to do that. Every time the other user clicks accept. It give me a window saying that "Your Screen Sharing session has been closed by a remote user".

I spoke with an Apple tech. She advised me to reboot routers and computers on both ends, and to sign out of and back into the "Messages" app on both ends.
It's working for me again now…

  • I am trying to share my screen via iMessage with my father.  I am in california he is in Idaho.  We have everything set, but the request to share screen doesn't show up on either desktop.  We are both running mavericks

There is not an option below for Mavericks.  Both iMacs are running mavericks, and have screen sharing turned on.   I am trying to help my father with various tasks on his imac.  We are trying to share screens with Messages.  We are both able to initiate a request for screen sharing, however, the request never shows up on either screen. We have also tried connect to server via finder using VNC. This doesn't work either.  Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

    Hi Sandy Jay,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has a list of requirements for screen sharing that I would check as well:
Messages (Mavericks): Audio chat, video chat, and screen sharing requirements
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15026
To quickly view your computer’s audio and video chat capabilities, choose Video > Connection Doctor, then choose Capabilities from the Show pop-up menu.

  • Share Screen

Snow Leopard on my MBP is requiring a user id and password to share screen of my remote mac mini which, in any event, fails when I supply it. Leopard did not require authentication and my mac mini is set up to allow all users without a password. SL can see the remote mac mini and its directory structure just fine. Need help with this one, please.

  • Note 2 error: "Bluetooth share has stopped" [SOLUTION FOUND!]

Hi everyone, The current Spotify version causes my Note 2 to give the error "unfortunately bluetooth share has stopped" every time a new song is played, which disconnects my wireless headphones.
The update before that made Spotify give a warning that it can't see the SD card, then opening the app just gave a blank screen. Anyone know a safe place to get an older Spotify APK? I guess about three months old? (Or a fix to make the current version work) Samsung Note 2, Android 4.3. Not rooted. Thanks!Nitsan. [UPDATE: SEE MY COMMENT BELOW FOR THE FIX]

Love the service, albeit a few issues lately.
    1) The new logo is UGLY. Whoever decided to take away the nice, shaded darker green logo and color scheme we love and replace it with a boring, solid, baby poop-colored logo and color scheme should rethink this. It clashes with the rest of the black and white color theme, and is unpleasant to look at. From what I've seen, people are very much in agreement.
    2) On my Galaxy S3 SPHL710, Bluetooth crashes & Android says "Bluetooth share has stopped" every time the song changes (both manually skipping, or automatically). Closing the dialog, letting Bluetooth reconnect, and skipping songs causes it to happen again. And again. And again...
    3) Spotify used to allow you to swipe through the "coming up" songs in a playlist, to pick the next one you want, without actually playing the song. Now, swiping actually plays the song instead of letting you just see it. This was/is a very important feature to me.
I think the general consensus is that people are tired of unnecessary changes to the app. Whatever management decisions were made to cause the quality of code to go down (why are we getting so many updates to an app over 20MB in size, several times a week?), to cause the logo color to be changed, etc... these management changes need to be undone if Spotify really wants to stay on top. Apple music is going to draw in many people, and Spotify needs to step up their game or the service is going to crumble. Don't take away the features your customers want. Give them a stable app. Listen to them!
Anyways, a simple downgrade to 3.2.0.1197 via apkmirror.com resolved the crashes, got rid of the ugly logo, and brought back features that are very important to me. Side note: Remember to disable automatic updates, or the new version will automatically install.
