Messages sit in Outbox?

For some odd reason - none of my email messages get sent out from my iPhone anymore.
Everything used to work just fine. I never made any adjustments to any settings.
All of my mail since this past weekend just sits in my outbox and never gets sent out.
I have a .mac account email and its the only email service I have.
What can I do to fix this?
What went wrong?

Sounds like your ISP has started blocking the SMTP port for outgoing email. I don't know which ports .mac supports, but that is what you need to find out.

    Hello Maryannebrabander
Start with the troubleshooting steps in the article below to sort out issues with messages hanging out in the outbox.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
    Try a different Wi-Fi connection
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

  • Error message; messages sitting in Outbox

I have been trying to send some e-mails today but I keep getting an error message that says, "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your outbox until it can be delivered. The server 'smtp.mac.com' cannot be contacted on port 587." I changed my port to 993 and one message seemed to go but the rest remain. I don't understand why this is a problem all of a sudden. I send e-mails every day with Mail on both my MBP and iMac. Funny thing though. I checked what port my iMac was using and it was 993 while my MBP has been using 587. I don't even know what half of this stuff means. Can somebody please help.

Turn SSL off for .Mac's SMTP server and try ports 587 and 25 for SMTP.
"Ports" can be compared to television programs. There is one cable connected to your TV, but there are lots of programs on that cable. Same with your Mac: there is one "cable" (maybe this "cable" is Airport), but there are many "programs" (ports) on that "cable". These ports are used to run different services (on different ports) on one and the same machine.

  • Mail won't send.  Just sits in outbox

Mail does not send.  Messages sit in outbox.  Account settings have not been altered.  I don't get any error messages when I hit send button.

What email provider are you using? It appears your outgoing mail server is incorrect. One possible solution is to delete the account and add it again.

  • How can I make mail retry sending messages in the Outbox?

    Howdy all,
As the title says how can a force Mail to try to resend the messages in the outbox? I use my MacBook Pro in a number of different environments and when I am on one flakey access point in particular or when I have forgotten to open Safari to reauthorize recently on another network Mail will fail to contact the SMTP server. When this happens my message gets stuck in the outbox to be sent later. My problem is that I do not know how to get it out of there effectively.
Once I have fixed the transitive error in the network (or or the problem fixes itself) how do I get the messages out of the inbox? At this point I can send more messages with no problem and they will happily go out but those in the queue just sit there.
Now, I have tried a number of things like quitting and restarting Mail, bringing the various network interfaces back up and down, and other things to try to trick Mail into sending the queued messages but that has been haphazard at best. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious I am missing.
    Thanks for any help!

Highlight the message in the inbox, double-click on it, and click on the "send" icon
You may even consider BCCing yourself to see whether the message actually goes or not, and you just have an artifact copy stuck in your outbox that you could then just delete.
Otherwise, copy&paste the stuck message body into a new message, and delete the stuck one out of the outbox before attempting to send the new one

  • Shared mailbox outlook 2013 sent mail sitting in outbox folder

    Hi guys,
I am hope you might be able to assist.
I have users who access a shared mailbox (primary mailbox) as delegates with full permissions and send as permissions. They also have a nested mailbox which is their own personal mailbox. Mail sends from both mailboxes and when it behaves mail gets delivered
to the sent item of the sender. But on a common recurrence mail sits in the Outbox of the delegate mailbox when sent from that mailbox. They can hit send/receive and it will force mail to send and also mail can delay for several minutes at times. This is also
    seen in OWA.
Removing the nested mailbox and adding it as a additional mailbox allows mail to flow without issue but mail sent from the additional mailbox gets placed in the sent items of the primary mailbox. Client would prefer the sent items to be kept separate (tried
    DelegateSentItemsStyle).
The exchange is a Exchange 2013 VM server and the client's use remote desktop services to access the platform. Also each Windows mail client is configured to use HTTP and cache mode is disabled for remote services. Last applied update was on the 08/2014.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
From your description, when you send a message from shared mailbox, the message is sitting in Outbox folder. I have seen some people have this issue, it is recommended to run Outlook using Cached mode as a workaround.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Emails sitting in outbox

Emails sitting in outbox- message says "no password provided- go to mail account settings and enter password" however when I do this it then says server does not support password authentication!! It should not be this hard to send an email. I have checked settings a hundred times, is there a simple solution? Very frustrating! Thanks

possibly like me you don't use the pop3/x email a lot but want to send from time to time.
in "fetch', i've selected a "manual" fetch instead of at various time intervals and what's happening is sent emails go into the outbox until a "fetch" occurs, either at a time interval like my pc or when i do a manual fetch.
all sent emails go into the outbox until the fetch occurs and then, only will the mail be sent but you'll receive whatever's available into the inbox.
i find it easier to text to an email address than dink with this pop3 email.
to save downloading everything on the fetch, i check cox.mail or rr when i was in hawaii to see if i need to reply to something.
    hope this helps.

  • Sent mail just sits in Outbox. Why?

All of a sudden yesterday, any mail I try to send from my mail app, the emails just sit in the outbox and it says, error-your server timed out on port xxx. Your mail will stay in the outbox till it can be sent.
    Sometimes it doesn't say anything.
And I can't log in to my email only extra account on my dotmac....says my password was wrong, so I went and did the change password to the same password, and I still can't log on.
This has happened before when messages stayed in outbox I was trying to send, then it stopped. Now, I can't send any email through my mail application.
    I can get mail.
    What's the problem?
I installed Intego NetBarrier X5 last week, but it just started not sending mail yesterday.
And when it happened before, I didn't have NetBarrier.
    This is so frustrating.
    Can anyone help?

That worked. The funny thing is, it SAYS it sits in my outbox and I keep trying to send it, and the people actually GET it, sometimes three copies because I would keep trying. That's the weird thing also.....
But you gave me the right port number and it worked.
I wonder why the port number changed?
I got Net Barrier from Intego and it shows what port you are using and it will use 4 different ports everytime I do mail. I don't know why it does that.
But thanks. That did the trick.
    Don't know why that happens.
This is the second time and I didn't even have Net Barrier before.
    It's just weird.
    But thanks anyway.

  • Why am I unable to send e mails from my IPhone or IPad and get message rejected from outgoing server, message placed in outbox

Why am I unable to send e mails from my iPhone, and get message rejected by server and message put in outbox.  I have tried changing server ports but to no avail.  I am not very technically minded so any suggestions in laymans terms please.  This is a big problem as I work away frequently and need to answer e mails.  This also happens when at home and on my own wifi.

  • Messages stuck in outbox but really sending many t...

I have an E63 and just in the last few weeks whenever I try to SMS people the message is automatically sent to the outbox saying it will be resent at such and such a time for up to a few hours (unless I delete the message) but people are receiving the SMS multiple times without my knowledge (as my phone still has the message in my outbox). I have tried deleting all messages on my phone, taking out the battery, SIM card and memory card but none of that seems to work and I'm really not very keen to reset to factory settings for fear of losing all my **bleep** lol help!!

Oh. I did use that code (then spent an hour trying to turn my phone back on!). It deleted my phonebook and since I'm **bleep** in checking that numbers are saved to my sim card... I wasn't very impressed. It seemed to do the trick, I can text again. I'm getting rid of the phone now though - I read on these forums that quite a lot of people have had the same kind of issue with the e63. Maybe I'm just a brat but I expect a phone to work properly for at least a year before giving me grief, especially a Nokia. I've only had it for 8 months!!

  • Mail sits in outbox and doesn't send

mail sits in outbox and doesn't send

remember there is both a mail Sender and a mail Receiver. Receiver setup information is easy to find, but Sender setup information is a little harder to find.
Use exactly the settings your ISP provided, or use this Apple Mail Setup Assistant. (rest assured, Apple does not use this to collect your email address.)
    https://www.apple.com/support/mail-settings-lookup/
The easy-to-see info in Mail preferences is for your Mail Receiver. This corresponds to the top part of the box from the Apple site.
You need to use Connection Doctor and click on the red light to get easy access to the Mail Sender info. This corresponds to the bottom part of the box from the Apple site.

  • Mail won't quit and messages stuck in Outbox

Having a very strange problem with Mail on my father's Mac Mini. It is not my computer so I'm not sure what has lead to this, but Mail will not quit, and every message we try to send gets stuck in the Outbox. The version running is Mac OS X 10.6.8, and the version of Mail is 4.6 (1085).
I have tried removing all messages from the Outbox and then deleting Outbox.mbe. This hasn't worked.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes. Yes and yes. I don't want to sound like a broken record in these threads, but I got rid of Mac Mail shortly after 10.6. It became unstable and unreliable. I gave it another go with 10.8.1 and it was still a problem. IMHO it is a very weak client mail app.
Finally I had peace in going for a web client (gmail) and problems went away.
Just yesterday I spent hours on an unsolveable mail problem on my neighbors iMac. I finally just signed her up for gmail and imported address book and her old email server address. Simple.

  • Email WONT send - sits in outbox folder

For some reason, although I can send email, my outgoing emails will NOT send - instead they stay in the outbox. Any idea how to fix?! THX!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    Please clarify this confusion:
Your subject line - "email WONT send - sits in outbox folder"
Where you say -- "although I can send email"
And finally where you say -- "my outgoing emails will NOT send - instead they stay in the outbox"
So that's two votes for failure, and one for success. Can you clarify please?
    Thanks!
