Messages - this is very weird - scary even

SO I came back to my iMac from running an errand. Before I left I was having a conco with my kid. He iPhone to me. The messages came to imac Messages. Not my iPhone - iOS6. I'm running 10.8.2. Messages.
SO I come back, open Messages and a whole new conversation is now in Messages and has taken place, with only a number, with a photo no less - from someone I don't know. Replies and all. Nothing ever came to my iPhone while out - only for a half hour no less.
A number I don't know. NO name. Number not in my Contacts at all. I'm fully iCloud. Wokring great.
This is very very weird. I have Messages set for my iPhone number and two emails. One my Me email.
Their convo was plain - making plans for the night and the photo of his car engine that broke down.
Any ideas how this could be? I can understand getting a message to me sending to my number typed in incorectly - BUT I GOT THE REPLIES TO. Like it came from my computer!!

Assuming the phone isn't jailbroken, the basic steps (as needed) are:
Restart phone (you already did this)
Reset phone
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

If your phone is jailbroken, this is the most frequent cause of the problems you described. Restoring could permanently brick the phone.
Note that your iOS is old and the current version is 4.2.8. It's odd that it wasn't updated when your activated your phone in iTunes, being that you got it last Friday.

This is very important, not even joking.

I updated my iTunes to the newest version just a day ago, and every single piece of music and video I had on iTunes disappeared. Everything is completely gone and I'm freaking out. Not only because EVERY FOLDER IS BLANK, but also because I really don't have the time or patience to re-upload 45 days worth of music. Can someone please tell me what happened, or where all of my music went?

Sounds like you have 2 problems going on.
For the itunes library being empty, try these directions

Just skip step 2, since you just updated itunes.
For itunes asking you to configure everything all the time, that is usually a problem with the itunes shortcut. Go to C:Program Files/iTunes and right-click on itunes.exe. Make a new shortcut for itunes and use that to start itunes - does it work OK, now?

This is very weird

Just built a PC with KT6V motherboard, XP 3000, 512DDR 400. Works perfectly, until you put the side on!!!! Then it shuts down halfway into loading windows. Any thoughts whatsoever?!!!! As far as I can tell nothing is shorting out.

had same problem a few months a go
its to do with a peice of ur hardware
just barebone ur system and connect componets and c if system boots
so start off with just the 12v connector and main motherboard connecer in and c if starts up then add ur drive and stuf
ur booting problem could also be a problem with ur power supply as i find that booting ur system, up is the most power consuming task there is

I have worked my way through the assistant and nothing works. I have tried connecting in disc mode but although the screen on the ipod is showing that the device is charged and that it is in disc mode as soon as I connect it to the computer it comes up with the error message 'please wait very low battery' and stays like that until I disconnect when it appears to be OK again. I have tried on both pc and mac.
BTW the ipod is an ipod video not classic if that makes any difference.

I attached multiples .pdf files to an email. Tried to attach the next file before the previous 1 finished attaching. Got error message "this "**" file cannot be attached until the files already attached are finished uploading". Was never able to attach that 1 file to the email that I received the error message for; was able to attach subsequent files to that same email & send it. Now, I often get the same error message, even if I only attach 1 file & esp. when attaching .ai or .jpeg files. What can I do to fix this problem?

No easy fix for a few reasons:
1) Bootcamp requires a hybrid MBR for the partition table. That is: both an MBR and a GPT partition table at the same time with the GPT one having all partitions and the MBR one having only the ones that are relevant, but at most 4 of them (including the protective partition and the Macintosh HD one). Which leads us to:
2) The MBR part of the hybrid partition table cannot work with 3TB hard drives. MBR is limited to 2TB.
I am working on a small EFI app that can boot Windows in EFI mode on a Mac and that would mean that you can go GPT only on your system. The progress of the app is slow due to the nature of EFI and for now requires that you do an unattended Windows install with slipstreamed graphics drivers, but we are adding VGA loading on top of EFI quite soon after the rest of the app stabilises. The status of the app is documented at:
Win7 x64 booting natively via EFI (no bios emulation)
Windows does actually successfully boot in EFI mode on most Macs (anything with a 64bit EFI should work), but does not have graphics support even if you load the driver due to the VGA pci registers not being set by the firmware. Furthermore, in Setup and Safe Mode, Windows uses VGA instead of GOP which is a failure by design since VGA is a BIOS standard and not really compatible without hacks with EFI. Other EFI implementations also add VGA compatibility at a high cost to the firmware complexity for the VGA cards available on the market that don't actually contain anything in their ROM except the VGA BIOS.
My recomendations:
1) Install on a second smaller hard-drive; or
2) Wait for the EFI app to come out officially and use that to boot Windows Vista SP1 x64 and Windows 7 x64 (RTM and SP1) in the native EFI mode.
3) Wait for Windows 8 which supports VGA-less booting acording to the AMD presentation at UEFI Plugfest.

Excel 2010: I get the error message "This file can't be previewed because of an error in the Microsoft Excel previewer." even though Advanced Properties is set to Save Thumbnails for all Excel Documents.

Try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at". If that doesn't work, you'll have to tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different Apple ID for iMessage.

One correction, from the icloud I was not able to listed to the entire song. So when you purchased the song if it wasn't downloaded to your library, chances are you have lost your opportunity to listen to it.

Unfortunately it does not help to delete the locks in SM12 - they keep popping up.
Regarding SM50, then we see the process here. But when we kill the process it just pops up again.
I have now asked the BASIS guys to kill the request at OS level.
I just find it pretty weird that we cannot stop a load from within the system.

I had the same problem with some apps and printer setup software. SInce Rosetta has been discontinued on Lion my only solution was to restore to 10.6 since the manufacturers either have not yet or will not release updated apps. In this case you have to determine how important those old PPC apps are to keep around and if there alternitives that are available to replace the functionality. I would expect a broadband provider to update thier apps if it is something that is required to connect.

I doubt you are doing anything wrong. First day glitches
Reset the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Make sure you have Mail selected here > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
