Messages to Outlook Contacts rejected

When I send a message using MS Outlook by typing the name into the To field and allowing Outlook to find the email address, Outlook completes the To field with something like, for example "Joe Soap ([email protected])".  [Obviously a fictitious address].  My problem is that, with such messages, I invariably get a return message from System Administrator: "Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients..."  After fruitlessly trying BT telephone help several times for a solution, I eventually isolated the root of the problem to the fact that round the To field is constructed using round brackets.  If square brackets or chevrons < > are used, or if I just type in the raw email address, the message gets through as normal.  I looked up the standard for email messages and it is clear that any type of bracket should be accepted by mail servers but clearly BT mail servers don't comply.   (I also used the MS forum to confirm this diagnosis.)
This morning I used the telephone helpline to explain the problem and ask that it be corrected.  They promised to come back to me in two days time but I am not holding my breath as I have had such promises before and they haven't been fulfilled.  Would love to be proved wrong, though.

Andy I'm not sure what you mean by "deleted one of the contacts from the auth-fill in".
In the meantime the helpdesk phoned back again, they had contacted someone at Microsoft who remembered a similar problem with 2007 which was apparently traced to a corruption with the Nickname field.  None of my contacts have nicknames but I tried entering one on a particular contact - problem persisted - then deleting the entered nickname - same result.  If there was some corruption in that field I think it would have been removed by those steps.
"The thing that also springs to mind here, is why have there been no other posts on this topic - I've not seen any in the newsgroups either ...."
I spent years on an IT helpline (nothing to do with Outlook) and there are always new - and sometimes very unusual - issues.
I think the BT helpline have been very good here.  They - and you - seem to be suggesting some sort of corruption of the Outlook data file, and I'll keep looking.
By deleting the auto-fill in, I'm referring to the corruption you described above with regard nickname as such.
I've been around for a long time on the newsgroups and forums, and frankly not seen this before. I do see the odd new problem from time to time, and if it was the mail servers then it would have appeared before - not least because Yahoo provide the mail servers, not just for BTinternet, but for a number of partners around the world - including their own yahoo.com/co.uk users. There are 10s, if not 100s of millions of users of this server farm system.
This issue strikes me as being a local corruption issue. due the reasons above.
I do agree that the steps you mention could have removed the issue, but it depends on a number of other factors too. Have you closed Outlook and restarted (even the computer), is there any stuck items in the outbox ?
Note I'm not actually saying that there isn't an issue with the servers, but the facts I've presented seem to indicate something else in all honestly.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Adding link to the photo and Name in the outlook contact card -Enterprise wide

    How can I make the name and photo in the outlook contact card link to my profile page? I read articles where it is mentoined that the URL is set in Registry, currently my organization does not have any link associated with photo and name in contact card.
    I want to implement this across the organization , any deployment or changes that I need to do to implement this across?
    Appreciate if you can provide details on how this is done. The url will look like this:
    https://www.produrl.com/userid={userid}
    How can I dynamically add respective userid in the link?Appreciate your response on this.

    So you want to redesign the contact card in Outlook? Are you using SharePoint? If signed into sharepoint via the social connect, there is a link to the mysharepoint page under View source. I don't think you can change the link or customize the card,

  • Outlook contact sync changes email properties!!! How to stop that?

    Hi,
    when you modify or add a new contact on the iPhone, once you synch it with Outlook (2007 in my case), all iPhone contact emails properties are changed in outlook.
    I have set Outlook to default to send email in HTML, not in RTF:
    Tools->Options->Mail Format->Internet Format-> Convert to HTML Format
    This means it won't send RTF mails at all, first converting them to HTML messages.
    Outlook "offers" a way to override this setting directly in the contact form.
    If you open a contact in Outlook "Contacts" view, then double-click its email address. You get a dialog box called "E-mail Properties".
    By default, it will use "Let Outlook decide the best sending format" as the "internet format" mode. This comes from the default we have set above.
    Problem is that each contact modified in the iPhone resets this "Internet format" for that particular contact to "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format".
    This is ways stupid since when you send a formatted email to someone who doesn't have Outlook, then (s)he gets a plain text email and an attached "winmail.dat" file that is binary and containing the formatting and attachments, built-in pictures, etc...
    This file is recognized only by Outlook and can't be read if you don't have outlook or a utility to decode those files.
    Can Apple fix this and keep the "Internet format" settings as it is in Outlook?
    And if you create a new contact on the iPhone, then, when synching, use Outlook's default Internet format?
    Is there a workaround to this annoying problem?
    I know that Outlook is tricky, not the iPhone or iTunes, but we have to live with it.
    Thanks for any help

  • Sync gmail messages between outlook 2003 on my hom...

    Hi everyone,
    I've been reading a lot of posts on this forum and other pages on the net, but I couldn't find anything similar to my problem.
    I have a E51 with the latest version of PC suite; and I am using Outlook 2003 on a WinXP SP2 machine.
    PC suite does not give me the possibility to sync messages with Outlook (if it does, then it doesn't work for me). It only syncs calendar items, notes and contacts, which are all of secondary importance for me.
    Of course, this is an enterprise phone, but I am not using it with my work computer. I use it with my gmail personal address. I got the phone set up to get my emails through IMAP and my computer through POP3.
    What I would like is to be able to receive and send messages from my phone while on the go and still have the possibility to retrieve all email conversations when I download my messages with Outlook.
    Unfortunately, although this works fine for received emails (downloading them with my phone will not erase them from my inbox and I will still be able to download them onto my computer), it is not the case with sent emails. These are stored in my phone memory as well as on gmail webmail under sent items, but they won't be set as part of the conversation in the inbox and will therefore not download onto my PC. And even if I move them manually to the inbox, they will be moved there in the webmail interface but Outlook will still not download them.
    I would like to be able to save the history of some email exchanges from that particular gmail mailbox onto the computer (of course I don't need the whole history on my phone), and I find it a pain to have to go through the phone web browser to read and write my mail, so I would be really greatful if someone could tell me how to do it.
    I could also change my email client to be something else than outlook if it makes it possible, but I don't think this issue is down to Outlook.
    Thanks in advance for your help, I'll take any lead on how to do it or what to install...
    Cheers

  • Sync Multiple Outlook contact and calendar folders

    We have multiple Outlook contact and calendar folders in Outlook (Work and Personal). Is it possible to sync multiple folders to the iPhone?

    The problem is excactly what I just found out while trying to sync my new N97, which I also bought for the reason, it was said to be able to sync my outlook contacts (etc.). But sorry, just syncing one folder nearly equals to it cannot sync at all. I am really upset, to see the lack of this function to such a sophisticated mobile and software. (The mobile cannot do nothing about it, it is a problem of PC Suite. But the mobile worth only so much, as it is supported by the software!)
    To add to blutarskys request, it is not only used in business, that people have folders in Outlook contacts. Hello, it is the most convenient way, to organize groups of contacts, like family, friends, colleagues, support, etc. pp. Myriads of people use that function as it is one of the most basic functions.
    So please Nokia, launch this feature up asap. It is deeply requested.
    Without, N97 is of no use for me. I still cannot believe, it is not possible. I still just hope someone will state, that we just overlooked it.
    Kind regards.

  • Lost all my Outlook contacts and phone accounts

    I've just about given up on the iPhone.  After upgrading my 3GS to iOS 5 a month or so ago and installing iCloud on my PC, things began to go bad:
    First I found that I could no longer send e-mail, since all of the out-going server settings (smtp) had disappeared.  No attempts to re-enter the information seemed to work, since all would fail to verify.  I took the problem to the phone's source, AT&T, and watched a support person try to restore the settings for about an hour.  She eventually got one of seven accounts to work, but that fix failed within about an hour of leaving the store.  I spoke to Apple support at length, but to no avail, since I was only sent a PDF of various smtp settings of which I was already aware.  Still no out-going mail from this phone.
    Next I found that my initial success with iCloud, and it's links to my calender and contacts, had mysteriously stopped working.  Not only do my contacts and celander not sync, but my entire Outlook contact folder is empty and I can't find that data anywhere on either the phone or the PC.  The iCloud configuration utility is still around, but offers no help in finding the data.
    If anyone has experienced similar problems, and found some possible solutions, I'd really like to know about it.
    Thanks for any advise.
    STeve

    I did a similar thing but in the other direction. Found this below (after I had already restored from a .xls I had exported of my contacts)You should do that as well, it's a small file and easily replaced. I am not sure if that works as well with Outlook. Also, I downloaded a free app to sync to the web at my.memova.com
    enter one contact in the the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

  • How to Sync pictures from AD for users in Outlook Contacts?

    Hi we recently enabled adding profile pictures to AD from sharepoint.   This works fine, the attribute shows in AD and the pictures show in Lync.   Now in Outlook there are soem inconsistencies.   I am are running
    Outlook 2010 windows 7 64 bit.    The user pictures from the Global Address List show up fine in the people pane, however for users that I have a local outlook Contact created for the pictures do not show in the "people pane",
    or the outlook "contact".  however the picture DOES show up in the outlook "Contact card".  If I click update on the outlook contact I get a message "no changes were found for this contact".
    If I delete the local contact and re-add them the picture is there.  I don't think the solution is to delete and re-add contacts, as the reason to have the local contact is generally because we have added info that is not in GAL.
    Any way to force the sync of the picture from AD for local contacts?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

  • Sync Outlook Calendar message "Apple Outlook DAV Config has stopped working"

    Hi There,
    I've installed the Windows iCloud Control Panel tool, and I'm trying to sync some of my Outlook data to iCloud. Contacts works fine, and tasks appeared to work fine the first time, but syncing my calendar consistently fails with this message:
    "Apple Outlook DAV config has stopped working"
    My calendar is rather large, but it was larger still (over 5000 entries), so I archived some older items, but it still fails now at about 1800 items out of 2000.
    Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Hi Levanterman,
    Yes I tried that, and there were errors. I fixed my pst file. But then my I got a new error. Which resulted in the process actually generating an email would you believe it to Apple support staff, I presume saying:
    Help Apple improve its products by sending us diagnostic and usage information about iCloud.
    By sending this message, you agree that Apple will collect and use this information as part of its support services and to improve its products and services. This information is collected anonymously. To learn more about Apple's Privacy Policy, see http://www.apple.com/legal/privacy.
    Your setup couldn't be started because of an unexpected error.
    Error: 0x80040604: No reason set
    So you can imagine my frustration with all of this, but I agee, I think with dylanfromhuxley above, it is probably some errant specific calendar item. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to go to the trouble of "demolishing" my calendar to re-build it again, just to get the iCloud sync going ... I'l probably revert to doing good old wired syncing here, until I here confirmed reprots that that this clearly 1.0 version of the Outlook integration has matured somewhat.
    Cheers,
    Trevor.

  • HT1296 When synching Outlook Contacts and calendars with iTunes for Windows, I do not get the option to "Synch Contacts with". It says, and cannot be changed, that it is synching with iCloud.  How do I get iTunes to give me an option other than iCloud?

  • Outlook Contacts to iCloud

    My boss imported all of his outlook contacts to his icloud contacts.  I need to make groups for him and apple told us we have to do that through icloud on my pc.  icloud won't drag and drop contacts to the group - the error message reads that this action is not supported by the browser.  I have tried google chrome, internet explorer, and safari and am having no luck.  The webpage also locks up as soon as I get in there and try to drag and drop.  Can anyone help me solve this problem?

    Yes, you can though that will be by means of an additional program called “Akruto”! It’s similar to iTunes app however the difference is that using “Akruto” you’ll be able to sync your Outlook contacts to iCloud.

  • Problems with Sync with Outlook contacts and calendar (Office 2007)

    I have been able to set up my Blackberry curve with email accounts, but sync with Outlook contacts fails. My device will show as connected, but nothing happens. I continue to get a message if I want to use Mass Storage mode on my phone and I assume this should be checked as yes, then I get a folder showing up on my desktop with "Removable Disk (E, which contains several files.
    When Desktop Manager is opened I get message "Initial Plugin: Verifying Applications" "checking the status of the applications on the device. This is only required on the first connection of the device to a new desktop installation" It shows in the same dialog box "connecting to the device (JVM)...
    The connection hangs and nothing happens. I have reinstalled software and was even told by Verizon Support to exchange the phone (which I did), but the same issue of non-connection for sync is still there.
    Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    iTunes thread found that sync issue was caused by reoccuring appointments,
    Basically you need to modify the reoccuring appointments (and may require to add an end date as this was how the guy made a modification) and then re-sync.

  • Outlook Contacts "invalid entryid" error after edit on iPod Touch and sync

    There are a few threads about this in the iPhone discussion, but so far nothing on the iPod Touch side and I'm encountering it in both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 after testing on two different computers.
    Issue:
    1. Create or edit a contact on the iPod Touch
    2. Sync with Outlook Contacts
    3. You are no longer able to access the added or edited contact's e-mail address when composing e-mail. If you select the contact's properties from the e-mail interface, you receive an error message that an "invalid entryid was passed."
    My discovery:
    Deleting data from the "Display as" field in the Contact will fix the problem.
    1. In the Contacts folder, open the contact with the problem.
    2. Delete all data from the "Display as" field (displays with Email field).
    3. Select any other field on the Contact form - "Display as" will automatically re-populate
    4. Save the contact. Problem solved.
    Not sure how iTunes sync is corrupting this, but thought I'd share the discovery since suggestions in the iPhone discussion involve exporting, deleting, and importing affected contacts.

    Quick fix method for those who really can't be bothered with any manual methods. Below is a macro for Outlook that will, starting with the currently selected contact folder and including subfolders (mobileme groups), reset all email display names which effectively fixes the EntryID issue. There's no error checking, it's pretty raw but does the job. Hope it helps.
    <STARTMACROCODE>
    Option Explicit
    Sub FixEntryIDs()
    Call FixEntryID
    End Sub
    Sub FixEntryID(Optional ByVal contacts As folder)
    Dim item As ContactItem
    Dim subf As folder
    Dim changed As Boolean
    If IsMissing(contacts) Or contacts Is Nothing Then
    Set contacts = ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder
    End If
    For Each item In contacts.Items
    changed = False
    If Len(item.Email1DisplayName) Then
    changed = True
    item.Email1DisplayName = ""
    End If
    If Len(item.Email2DisplayName) Then
    changed = True
    item.Email2DisplayName = ""
    End If
    If Len(item.Email3DisplayName) Then
    changed = True
    item.Email3DisplayName = ""
    End If
    If changed Then
    Call item.Save
    End If
    Next
    For Each subf In contacts.Folders
    Call FixEntryID(subf)
    Next
    End Sub

  • E-mail ICWC: Outlook contacts

    Hello guys,
    In a customer we have a CRM 5.0 installation with the following SW components:
    BBPCRM     500 SP10
    SAP_ABA    700 SP12
    SAP_BASIS 700 SP12
    In the ICWC, when we sent an e-mail we have the opportunity to choose the source of addresses, like outlook contacts or partners addresses.
    In my e-mail interface only appear the contacts from the partner addresses.
    Could you tell me what can I do to appear the option “outlook contacts”?
    It’s necessary configuration of groupware integration.
    Best Regards.
    Mary

    Hello Joaquin,
    Thanks for your response.
    When I posted the message I knowed that, my services were activated.
    I solved my problem with the SAP Notes:
    Note 963408 - Internet Explorer settings for 1-to-1 e-mail and groupware
    Note 962341 - 1-to-1 e-mail or groupware synch problems with MS-Outlook
    So, to put the "outlook contacts" in the address search in the e-mail ICWC it's necessary to apply the notes above and to activate the services in the sicf transaction.
