Messages "Waiting for authorization"...forever

My parents live in another state and would like to video chat. Simple enough. However Messages REFUSES to cooperate. We both have iCloud accounts and have added each other to our buddy lists. On both sides we see the generic "Waiting for authorization" next to the buddy icon. No notification is being sent or recieved on either side, even if we "Request authorization". Nothing. I've tried changing the network type from Jabber to AIM on both sides as well. Again, nothing... Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Eric! We'll definitely do that. Very annoying that you can iMessage someone from Messages, but not createa a "buddy" for the buddy list. Not very intuitive....

Messages says an offline person is "Waiting for authorization"

Messages lists two people as "waiting for authorization". I never asked them to be buddies in Messages. One name I don't recognize and I think is a spammer.
I can delete them from Messages, but when I restart they are relisted in the same condition. How do I get rid of these annoying entries?
PS I have no Jabber accounts. Just Yahoo, iMessage, AIM and Bonjour.

Answered my own question. Opened Yahoo! Messenger on my iPhone, listed offline contacts, went to Show Profile for each person in question, and tapped the Delete button for the contact.

My iphone 3GS no longer syncs with iTunes. The phone is recognised, backs up but then I get an error message: "Waiting for changes to be applied". BUT unlike other people, it doesn't stay stuck on it, instead the process closes down immediately

Apologies: I've just joined the community and didn't quite figure how to write a msg! Hope it works...
Anyway,
I read many posts on this annoying error message (Waiting for changes to be applied) in the last 2/3 days, but they all refer to the sync staying stuck on it.
Mine doesn't.
I read the message, then it quickly shuts down the sync and the iTunes progress bar only shows the apple...
As suggested by many, I removed voice msgs, turned off/on, tried to sync in individual stages (calendar only...) but nothing works.
I am up to date on iTunes (11.1.1.11) and have IOS 6.1.3 on my phone, to sync on a Win8 pc (all worked fine until recently).
I have had this phone for several years and it has never done this.
It worked absolutely fine, until I loaded the latest version of iTunes it seems...
Any suggestions?

ALSO, on the iPod under Settings>General>iTunes Sync, you may need to back out of the "iTunes Wi-fi Sync," and reopen it to get it to update.

Laserjet 2550L being used with Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3. After turning on, it will print once. When trying to print a second time I get a message "waiting for printer to become available." I have to turn it off and then back on to get it to print again.

Hum. Let's uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
2. Highlight your device on the left pane
3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Restart the computer and restart the printer. If you continue to have the problem the follow the steps Apple outlines in Reset Printing System feature article.

Trying to install 10.7 (from 10.6.8) on Mac Mini server 4,1. I don't use it as a server, and don't know anything about that.I get a message "Waiting for App Store to download Mac OS X Server Add on" check download at App store. There is none. Help?

Ran into this myself on a new MacMini Server. I renamed the ServerVersion.plist file in /System/Library/CoreServices/. That allowed the install to start. Unfortunately it seems the installer is setup to install that at the same time. I renamed the file back before the restart and it complained on restart that the server install wasn't found.
So I thought I would try downloading it on another computer with Lion. That didn't work either. As soon as it finished download it installed and deleted the installer.
What a pain.
If you can start from scratch, you should be able to rename the file, do the Lion install then after the Lion install rename it back. Then do the server install. I'm not sure what that will do to existing server configs though. There must be some reason Apple set up the Lion installer this way.
Oh, now I can't reboot into my existing OS. It keeps rebooting into the installer. Tried the option key and both options are named something like base os. Neither boots my existing Snow Leopard. Gonna have to get an external DVD drive and install from scratch I think. Luckily this is a new server not in production, so not a big deal. I hope people with production machines read the boards and tread carefully.

I try to sync my I Tunes with my I phone 4 and I keep getting the message waiting for changes to be applied.
What do I need to do to correct this?

If you right click on the iPhone's icon on the left of the iTunes display, you should be able to find an option to eject your iPhone. Then connect it and start the sync again.

Trying to transfer purchases from my 3gs onto a new PC (Vista). Keep getting the message "Waiting for changes to be applied". HELP!

Using the latest version of iTunes and iOS5 on my iPhone. Backup of the iphone seems to work fine. My old PC died and I want to transfer my apps to my new PC. But when I start Transfer purchases from my iPhone, it just keeps giving the message "Waiting for changes to be applied" and doesn't do anything. Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back when I switched computers and migrated. Here's what worked on my iMac, so maybe it'll work on your iPad, too. Go to User(your home folder)/Music. Select/highlight your "Music" folder. Then do Command-I ("Get Info" from the File menu), click on the padlock icon in the lower right of the new window. Enter your user password. Click on your username just above the now-open padlock. Select "Read & Write" if it's on "Read Only," "Write Only," or "No Access." Now having your user account with "Read & Write" privileges (it may have been this way already; still do this next step), click on the gear on the bottom-center of that window. Click on "Apply to all enclosed items." When the pop-up says "Are you sure?" (or the equivalent), say "yes." This will grant access privileges to your user account for all the music files inside your music folder--all your iTunes stuff included). Then you should be good to go.

Server Monitor "Waiting for response" Forever! But localhost is OK

I am having trouble getting Server Monitor running on my MacBook to connect to our new Intel Xserve. Feeding it either the IP address or the host name gets the same message: "Waiting for response" and nothing more. I have no trouble a t all access the same server using Server Admin on the same MacBook. So it ddoes not seem to be a DNS issue or even an ethernet issue. I am not running any firewires (that I know of either). This is a brand new server and I have never even started most services yet, just hooked it up to an Xraid. I also have (4) ethernet ports. But I get the same results by plugging the WAN into either of the ports. Is there a bug with Server Monitor and the Intel Xserves?

Well the MAC addresses of my LOM's seem to be sequential to the two builtin ethernet ports. Assign each LOM an IP number. Then, on another computer, try to change it's IP to the same thing as the LOM. You should get an error message saying that the IP # is already in use by aonther MAC address. You guessed it, that Other MAC address should be the LOM. This is how I found out mine. The 1 port ended with a 4, the 2 port ended with a 5, the LOM 1 ended with a 6 and the LOM 2 ended with a 7.
HOWEVER, after days of messing with this stuff, I have not gotten the LOM to work. Tried all the tricks too, even the ones Apple won't tell you like unplugging the whole computer for 30 seconds and stuff. After all that messing around I have somehow damaged the servers ability to work with Apple Remote Desktop. The server appears in the list fine, but when you try to access it, ARD can never connect. I guess I will have to completely rebuild this server on Monday. It's faster than finding what's corrupt now. I'm not impressed with the Intel servers at all. I hate all this new LOM stuff and I don't like the mounting hardware either. I think they took a step backwards this time. Stop trying to make Sun servers. If I wanted a Sun, I'd buy a Sun. I want an Apple, because it's easy to use. At least they WERE easy to use. Anybody want to trade a dual Intel 3.0 for a dual G5???? I'm giving up on the LOM thing now. I will just use ARD to run Server Monitor on the machine as local. This is the only way to get info on the INtel serverrs it seems. Bummer. Silly that I trust my G4 Xserver much more than the Intel.

"Waiting for Authorization" issue

I am having an issue with a couple of users on my iChat server. They cannot add each other to their buddy list. On each system is stays on "Waiting for Authorization" in the buddy list in spite of the fact that both users approved each other. I've tried deleteing their entries in their address book and then re-adding tham but that does not help. I can successfully add my account to them and vice versa but they cannot add each other. Can anyone shed a glimmer of light on this one. Greatly appreciated!

Inhibit "waiting for authorization"

We have set up a new OSX.6.6 server with iChat service as well. For unknown reason all user do not see the list of all subscribed users in iChat.
Because we are a closed community, everybody can chat with everybody, no one wants to block anybody. This nasty "waiting for authorization" after adding a contact manually is absolutely not necessary.
Is it possible to inhibit this authorization procedure with a set up on the server?

Remove them for iChat (and the Address Book entry that relates if applicable) and re-add them.

IChat, Waiting for authorization

I have:
a Mac and want to iChat.
a Google account.
The other person I want to chat with has:
a Mac.
a Google account.
When I added him as a buddy (via the plus sign at the bottom right corner of the iChat screen), it says "Offline, Waiting for authorization".
To him it says that I am offline.
I have opened a Jabber and AIM account, deleted my Gmail account and re-added, restarted the computer, and none of these methods have worked.
This computer is registered under the person I want to chat with but under his .mac account. From work, he is wanting to log in under his work Gmail account and this is the one I am adding to my buddy list. Please help.

Hi,
A GoogleTalk Account needs you to add it exactly as your name appears when you are Logged in to the Google Mail Web Page.
It also needs you to have Enabled Talk in your Google Account settings (Even adding it as a Jabber account and changing the server name).
Although the Google servers seem to treat [email protected] and [email protected] as the same as far as email is concerned it is different when adding your own Account to iChat or the Screen Name of a Buddy.
Now it appears you were logged in which suggests you Added your Screen Name/ID correctly as an Account.
iChat is somewhat fussy about Authorisation.
It sends this request once. (Other apps repeatedly sending it until the person Accepts or Denies)
This means iChat needs the other person to be on line when you add them.
Alternatively add them in the Google Mail page Chat section (they will appear in iChat automatically)

got new iPad - did all the stuff - hooking it up to iTunes, synched it, played for 2 days and nos it gives me the funny message "WAITING FOR ACTIVATION" - how long does it take? already been over 1 hour and NOTHING
What do I do?...

Is it a 3G model? What does the screen look like? Is it showing the cable picture and the iTunes icon on the screen?
Try plugging it to iTunes and see what iTunes does in there. If nothing works, put it in Recovery Mode and restore it by iTunes.

and just sits there for an hour or more... sync is not finished, nothing happens... Any ideas?

I called tech support and they had me schedule a time to walk through the problem with an apple engineer last night.
They acknowledged that they've been getting calls about this issue but that's all they said.
Make a long story short there was no solution. I ended up backing up all my info, contacts, notes ect. to the cloud and restoring the iPhone to the factory settings, then I synced back to the cloud but did not restore from a previous back-up just use as a new phone then manually check off the media pictures, music, movies ect.
It's not the ideal way but it worked for me because I don't have a ton of stuff on the phone and I can even sync wirelessly now where's before I couldn't check that feature on in iTunes because it wouldn't sync.
One thing since you can't restore from a previous back-up make sure to manually back up your camera roll or turn on photo stream to back up photos to the cloud.
