Messages won't sign-in to gchat or aim after waking from sleep.

I have installed the Messages beta and occasionally I cannot connect to the Jabber or AIM servers for GChat and AIM. Sometimes I will be randomly booted from the servers while connected. Currently when I woke my computer from sleep I choose to connect and it won't do so.

Hi,
Some of this is to do with how fast an App can "wake" compared to how fast the Mac can re-establish the Internet connection.
The only clear method is to either use the Messages/iChat menu > Accounts and Untick then re-tick the ones you want to Login (fully) or the same Menu > Preferences and Untick "Use this account" then reselect to Login (Again)

  • My MacBook Pro won't reconnect to my Wi-FI automatically after waking from sleep mode

Hello, everyone. Since I updated to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro won't reconnect to my Wi-FI automatically after waking from sleep mode.
Does anyone know how to fix that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Arthur.

    Hi, arthurpacifico.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are a couple troubleshooting steps that I would recommend trying to see if it corrects this issue.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If the issue persists, try the troubleshooting steps I have attached below.
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.Restart your computer.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.

  • After waking from sleep, my iMac (Lion) is unresponsive.  The mouse moves, but when I click things it won't open them.

After waking from sleep, my iMac (Lion) is unresponsive.  The mouse moves, but when I click things it won't open them.
This has happened EVERY time the iMac goes to sleep for the last few days.. the only way I have found to resolve the issue is to manually restart the computer each time via the button on the back of the iMac.
Any and all help is appreciated!
    Thanks

FWIW, I never sleep my machines or their HDs, just their displays and never have an issue waking up the displays, usually run 24/7. Give that a shot.

  • My iMac won't automatically connect to wifi after waking from sleep mode

After dowloading the newest software update and performing a firmware update for my Airport router, my Imac won't connect to Wifi automatically after waking from sleep mode

Please re-download and install the 10.7.3 update. You can locate it at 10.7.3 (Client Combo). Follow the on-screen instructions. Then test it out, if you still have the same problem please restart, when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option Key and then choose the Recovery Partition. Then open Disk Utilities and Repair Disk Permissions 2x. Then exit DU, restart normally and re-test.

  • Since updating to Lion the iMac won't recognise the external hard drive (maxtor) when waking from sleep mode,

Hi All, Since updating to Lion, my imac won't recognise the ext HDD (Maxtor) when waking from sleep mode, I have tried another port, diisc utility (Ext HDD not listed in here) but nothing works. I now find that I have to restart the imac to get the drive recognised..which is fine until the imac goes into sleep mode then I lose the drive and have to restart etc etc.....anyone suffering same issue.  The Ext Drive worked perfectly until the upgrade..

Thanks for this, and apologies for delay in replying...in between seeing your post I backed up the ext hdd to another mac and used the disc utility to erase and repair and then re mounted the ext hdd. OK.  I have then tested the ext hdd being recognised when waking from sleep mode a few times and everything appears to be fine. If this doesn't work (long term) I will follow the instructions as you have suggested....
I now have a new problem with my HP printer (Photosmart Plus) which is not being recognised by a new wireless router..Ok whilst the router is switch on and I have reconfigured the printer..but when the router is switched off overnight and then switched back on...I get a 'printer is not connected' message and have to go through the re configure routine all over. I am minded to think this is a router problem as the same issue is happening to my wifes Mac Book Pro (which is only a few weeks old)...any suggestions..

  • 10.8.3  - Messages still out of order after waking from sleep or restart

This bug is still present in Messages, although it was supposed to be fixed with 10.8.3.
I've tried both the App store update to 10.8.3 as well as the combo updater. When I check Messages' version after each, it's 7.0.1 (3318), and the copyright date is 2002-2012. So I'm assuming that the application is not being updated, although I don't know what version of Messages was included in 10.8.2.
Anyone else have the same problem?

    Hi,
It is the same app version and build number.
The Apple Doc linked from the COMBO download page states the "fix" applies to Messages on waking from Sleep and at no other occasion.
It seems that people are also reporting the iMessages are out of order during the Sync (sort of a Known Issue since Messages beta when New iMessages are Instant  and mix with a Sync that is in progress).
They are also reporting them out of order even when not syncing (i.e. the Mac is On and Awake  just not the device in use).
Of these some people are reporting that in some cases the restarting of the app restores the correct order.
It seems this may be the ones that arrive as New during the sync process rather than other occasions.
What is not clear is what steps might help.
Obviously removing the Apple ID in the Mac Version (Sign Out) and shutting the app, restarting it and adding the Apple ID again sound more involved than a fix should be.
However refreshing the Link to the server may be the way to go.

  • Ibook won't wake up or crashes after waking from sleep mode

I have now had this problem for the last year with my new ibook g4 and I can confirm that the problem is present at OS X version 10.3.0 - 10.3.9 and 10.4.0-10.4.5 . I'd manage to solve it but once in a while it shows up again and i have to solve it all over again. Apple doesn't seem to care although it makes your iBook totally unusable if you can't put it to sleep mode, because of the fact that you can't leave your iBook ON while the lid is closed. Ok as I said I have this problem once in a while but I allways manages to solve it, here are my observations:
Leting the computer go into sleep mode by itself (not by closing the lid) will not result in a crash.
Before a crash the following allways occour:
    1) The system gets highly unstable. Programs (mostly safari, mail and itunes) will crash without warning. The mouse reacts very slowly and lags behind. The mouse lag is a shure indication that the system will crash during the next seconds or minuts.
    2) While set to automaticly connect to favorite network, the airport won't connect imidiatly, but it will take a few seconds more than usual before it connects.
    3) The system sometimes crashes before it can activate the backlight resulting in the situation where people think that the system can't wake up from sleep mode and won't react.
Only forcing the computer to sleep mode can cause this failure (by pressing "sleep mode" or by closing the lid).
What i did to rule out some sources resulting in this error:
    1) Something like this problem can happen when having a bad memory socket or bad memory, so I'd ran Apples Hardware test and memtest OSX, but no failure was indicated.
    2) Ran the usual repair of disk permissions (like 10^6 times ), without any changes.
    3) Tried to reset the PMU (Power managing unit), without any changes.
    4) Also tried to make a clean installation with panther 10.3 and tiger 10.4, without changes. Before installing anything (no prgrams or updates) the system still crashes. Even after updating to. 10.3.9 and 10.4.5 the problem is still present
    The solution:
Well I found out that the problem has to do with to power options. That would normally mean that reseting the PMU would help, but as I already said this didn't change anything. Apparently the system is not able to wake up the Harddisk from sleep mode, and that's basicly the problem. I don't understand why it doesn't crash when going to sleep mode all by itself, but aparently there's something diffrent by forcing the system to sleep mode. Fourthermore it's not so "happy" to change those settings for the harddisk (I will explain later).
    Solution:
    1) Basicly just UNCHECK the option "Set harddisk to sleep mode whenever it's possible" inside powermanagment. And set "let the computer go to sleep after" to "Never" , do this for Battery and AC Power settings.
    2) And put CPU usage to "Automatic", do this for Battery and AC Power settings
    3) Restart the ibook. When it plays it's startup sound reset PVRAM by holding the following keys down before the backlight turns ON: OptionCommand+PR , when you hear the startup sound again release the buttons and start OSX normally.
Now as I said this problems comes once in a while and that has to do with the fact that repairing my disk permissions can change/reset the above changes. Even if it isn't beeing displayed graphicly repairing the disk permission have reseted those changes, resulting in the fact that the system is crashing again.
So to solve this do the following for Battery and AC power settings:
    1) CHECK/MARK the "Set harddisk to sleep mode whenever it's possible" inside powermanagment and put CPU usage option the low or high. And set "let the computer go to sleep after" to "Never"
    2) Restart the ibook.
    3) UNCHECK the option "Set harddisk to sleep mode whenever it's possible" inside powermanagment". Put CPU usage option back to "Automatic". And set "let the computer go to sleep after" to "Never"
    4) Restart the ibook again. When it plays it's startup sound reset PVRAM by holding the following keys down before the backlight turns ON: OptionCommand+PR , when you hear the startup sound again release the buttons and start OSX normally.
So now it doesn't crash again.
I've read all the threads of people having this problem and apparently it has been present since OSX 10.0.0 and when calling apple support they tell you to reset PMU and repair the usual disk permissions, which of cause doesn' work. And there are aparently a lot of really angree costumers, because this problem makes the computer COMPLETLY unusable, but apple has done nothing to help those people because of the the fact there there has been released ZERO patches or changes in OSX to resolve this issue. I can't say that there is something wrong with the iBooks as the several hardware test's indicate no malfunctioning but there is some bug in Mac OSX wich specificly makes the system incable to tell some ibook's how to wake the harddisk from sleep mode.
To the fine folks working on this forum: No I will not send this to apple, they already know about this, and have done nothing (just think of the millions of crash reports they recieve from those hundreds of crashes everybody is geting from this problem). That is why I put this on the forum so that people can actually solve this problem by themselves. If you think it's worth sending to apple, so that this problem can finally be fixed after 4-5 years you are more than welcome to send it directly to somebody who will actually do something about this. And i really hope that giving people the opportunity to make ther computer work, doesn't violated the usual rule "that we are not allowed to write anything that is agains apples interests", wich often results in a removal of threads and ANY chance in SOLVING critical errors.

Your observations and solution are right on the money!!
I just was working on an iBook that my father is giving to my sister. I must have started the problem by changing the sleep setting for battery to let HD sleep. After that the fun began! Instability, restart after restart, running Disk Warrior, fixing permissions over and over, etc. I finally zeroed out the HD and installed 10.4. Nothing worked until I read your post.
Thanks a lot. I understand how you feel about posting here, but please be aware that you are helping many people who would be completely without a clue otherwise. Thanks again for your efforts.
Now I can ship my sister her iBook!

  • Mail won't connect after waking from sleep

5K display iMac running Yosemite 10.2.2: When I first boot my iMac mail works perfectly as does the rest of my internet connection. I am using Ethernet directly connected to the router, but the same thing will happen if I use the wifi connection. Router is directly connected to the cable modem.
If I put the iMac to sleep and come back the next morning: I will see new messages available in my gmail and other accounts that have loaded during the night. If I hit the "get new messages" button, sometimes it will get the initial group of messages (IMAP) and move them into the POP gmail account, but most of the time mail will just fail to make a connection. The connection doctor will tell me that I'm not connecting to the internet. However, if I go to Safari or any other internet app, I have no trouble connecting.
Then, somewhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours after waking the iMac it magically connects - until the next time I put the iMac to sleep. Quitting and restarting Mail makes no difference. I have already deleted Sophos and anything else that others seemed to suggest would cause a problem. I have no trouble seeing anything in the mbox messages stored on the iMac. I just can't send or receive mail until it comes back to life.
    Suggestions are gratefully appreciated.

I don't yet have Q2007, waiting for first patch to show up, but I would look for a conflict with other programs or background processes, lack of RAM, or whether you migrated some PPC application or libraries.
I see that Quicken 2006 got an update Sept. 9th.
One of the fixes in the Q2006 R5 patch:
Stability improvements were made to prevent Quicken from quitting unexpectedly when launching with certain internal files corrupted.
    I would reinstall Quicken.
    Rosetta:
I know it runs PPC, but if someone didn't tell me that PPC apps run under Rosetta, I would not know it was there (it isn't a listed process, and you can't choose whether to use Rosetta or not, like choosing between Preview and Acrobat). Only because under Get Info: Kind: Application (PPC) - and you would have to know that equates to Rosetta.
So you're sure it is working fine in Rosetta... I read 10.4.8 is suppose to improve Rosetta...
The best way to improve Rosetta is to have 2GB RAM.

  • Screen won't come on after waking from sleep

I have a late 2008 Aluminum MacBook 13-inch running OS X Lion 10.7.3 and when I put it to sleep by closing the lid and leave it for more than a few hours, the screen won't come back on.  When I open the lid I get a flash with my log in window and my background but then it goes black.  I can also get a flash with just the brightness indicator at full brightness with an otherwise black screen if I run my finger across the F keys.  If I press the escape key the power light comes on and then fades out.  I havent found a dicusion of something like this and I have no Idea what it could be.

I have the exact same problem, I have to let the computer sit for a long period of time before trying to turn it on. If not, i get a solid black screen, with the front light on, and the noise from the hard disk. Any suggestions? I don't have any additional RAM installed.

  • Wifi won't connect to WPA2 network after waking from sleep, requires reboot

My office has a WPA2 network that I use my MBP to connect to. When I go home for the day, I close the MBP and put it to sleep. When I get home and open it, it automatically connects to my home wifi network. I do the same coming back to work and when it wakes up it shows a connection to the wifi network, but whenever I initially do any network task, the connection drops and I am unable to connect until I reboot my mac.
I've tried turning off the wifi before sleeping, then turning it back on, but it does the same thing.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I'm thinking about a trouble with the route table. Try this in a terminal session after startup:
    netstart -rn
    ping <network address>
After somes answer, close the cover to go to sleep mode.
Open the cover and look the result of the ping command
Normaly you don't have a network
cancel the ping command and redo the netstat commande
Normaly some rows are missing in the result (i don' know why)

  • After waking from Sleep it won't recogize the wireless router

My mother has my old ibook G3 600 mhz late 2001 ibook, with the old airport card. It is over 5 years old. She just upgraded to 10.4.5 and now when she wakes it from sleep it will not recognize the wireless router. I know the router and the connection are fine because my other ibook picks it up fine.
Here the wierd thing - when I restart the ibook it recognizes the signal, connects , and works perfectly until it is put to sleep. As soon as it is woken up again, you can't even find the wireless router in the pull down menu. I don't think the airport card is bad because it works perfectly when first started.
    Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi.
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
So does your iBook still pick it up when she can't? Put all of yours to sleep and then see if they all pick the router up. What router do you have? You might want to post this in corresponding Airport Forum because a lot of more (specifically) wireless knowledgeable people "hang out" there. There also may be people with the same problem that can help you.

  • MBP won't boot without power adapter also problem when waking from sleep

    Hi guys,
    I have a MBP 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB 1067 HHz DDR3
I have had this issue for a while now and done a lot of research to solve the problem, but not got anywhere...
I can't boot the mac without the magsafe attached. Also, I'm not sure it is a related issue, but if I close the lid on the computer, it goes to sleep fine, but when I lift the lid to begin working again, the screen is like an opaque white and I get a blocked loading bar at the bottom that takes an age to clear and then when the screen wakes up it take a while to become life again. I also had an issue with the motion sensor. When I moved it, It would send itself to sleep. The battery icon also displays an X in it and has done for a while.
To try and solve this I have:
    • Reset the PRAM
    • Reset the SMC
    • Booted from disc and repaired permissions and made sure the disc was OK
    • Bought an new official Apple battery
    • And pretty much everything else I can think of and have read about.
A while a go (Whilst in warranty) I had a problem with the USB board thingy (The board that runs keyboard, tracker pad and USB etc). Not sure if that helps.
I am starting to think it is hardware (RAM maybe??).
    Can anyone help??
    Thanks in advance.

    As an update...
    I have now tried:
Erasing the HD and installing SL from scratch and then used Time Machine to put back my files and apps.
    Guess what... No joy.
Can anyone actually help with this? I take it I am on my own in this 'Support' forum?
If anyone has any further suggestions that I might be able to try that would be wonderful. My head is getting quite sore now from banging it against the brick wall.
    Thanks in advance

  • Won't accept password when waking from sleep.

a client of mine is having an issue where her mac won't accept her password after waking from sleep.  The same password works when she restarts.  She has confirmed that caps lock is off.  Any Ideas?
I left her a message trying to find out more details about her computer like OS version and stuff.  Will update this when i hear from her.

She still hasn't returned my call, but i know that she is able to type.  Whether its wifi keyboard or not I do not know.

  • Why my Mac won't connect automaticly to Wifi from boot or when waking from sleep?

    Hi!
I have 2TB Time Capsule with bridged WiFi.
When I reboot or wake up my MBP from sleeping it won't connect automaticly to my Home WiFi network. I allways need to connect by hand. This problem has been in the Os X Lion and Os X Mountain Lion.
Any other WiFi networks don't have this problem, only with Time Capsule.
Time Capsule has 7.6.1 software and also older software's had this exact same problem
    My MBP is:
    2.3GHz Intel Core i5
    8GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
    And the WiFi chip is:
Card Type:          AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xD6)
    Firmware Version:          Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.81.20)
Does anybody else run in to this kind of problem?
Oh and everything else with WiFi is working normally (Phones, iPad's etc even PC's =) )

I was having this same issue with a brand new 2012 MacBook Air after updating to Mountain Lion and using an AirPort Extreme. Most times waking from sleep would result in a lockup as the system would continously try to find my network (the WiFi menu would just keep cycling). After going to 10.8.1 it still continued so I started looking at other possibilities. I noticed that the security setting on my AirPort Extreme (current generation) was set to WPA/WPA2. I changed it to WPA2 and the problem so far (2 days in a row) has gone away.
