Messages won't stay deleted!!

I have the iPhone 4S. Until Recently I've had no problems with it. However, now when I try to permanently delete my messages they still show as saved in my storage. They are now taking up 3GB of storage. I try deleting them and then closing the app and then pulling it back up and the whole thing freezes so I have to turn the phone off. Upon turning it back on all of the messages are back. Also I am unable to toggle iMessage to on now though I receive them. Please help!! I don't want to download anything there must be a way to fix this within the phone itself.

Did you ever fix this text message issue?  I'm having the same problem.

  • Mail: Zombie Messages (Deleted Messages Won't Stay Deleted)

I'm a new user of Mail and have run into a perplexing problem. Certain messages in my IMAP mailboxe come back from the dead. My account is only accessed by my MacBook and iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1), and only the Mail on the MacBook is experiencing this problem.
Mail is configured to keep deleted items on the server.
    Things I've tried:
    o Reset the envelope index
o Delete and recreate the account
o Upgrade my IMAP server from Cyrus 2.3.16 to 2.4.6
o Disable caching of message content on my MacBook
I haven't found any pattern for the length of time it takes for messages to revive. With message caching disabled, it seems to happen upon a restart of Mail, but I haven't had enough experience with this setting to be sure this happens 100% of the time.
I've used Cyrus on my home server for almost 10 years now and have never experienced this issue with Thunderbird (or previously Mulberry).
Any suggestions of other things to try?
    Thanks,
    Justin

Are you saying that keeping deleted items on the server (although it is the default when you create an IMAP account) is just broken? One of the main benefits of IMAP is that my mail state is the same and completely accessible from all of my computers and devices. Storing anything only on one client device, including deleted items, breaks that model.
I'll run the experiment to see if storing deleted messages locally to my macbook fixes Mail.app, but even if it does, this behavior will push me back onto Thunderbird.

  • Messages won't stay in trash go back into inbox?

Hi! I am having problems deleting emails. I put them into the trash and when I look they are not there and then appear back in the inbox. I have tried all the usual tricks to get it to work but it won't . I suspect it is one particular email that I don't want to open and I keep getting the spinning ball when I try to delete it and the whole thing jams . I then have to force quit email to get out of it.

Thanks for your help. I did wonder if I should try that. I actually got my husband to delete the email causing the problem from the iPad and clear out other ones for me and that seems to have done the job.
I have also done as you suggested and hopefully it won't happen again. I have in the meantime asked my cousin not to forward these emails to me !!

  • Exchange Server messages won't get delete when i am off-line

    Hi all,
i have noticed that whenever i use my macbook air with snow leopard on an airplane, and i try to delete messages that i have received through my company's exchange server from the mail application, my messages get temporary deleted and then they pop up again.
similarly there are some issues with multiple copies of drafts being saved and i have also noticed that some messages with attachments do not get downloaded straight away.
    has anyone else experienced this?

Hit CTRL+SHIFT+DEL, change the dropdown menu to '''Everything''', checkmark '''Cache '''(uncheck the others) and then click the '''Clear Now '''button.
Then go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''Advanced '''| '''Network '''(tab) and in the middle menu, click the '''Clear Now''' button.
Next, go to Tools | Options | Privacy and click the Show Cookies button. Type Java in the Search field and then delete all the Java cookies. If you have a Cookie manager installed, make sure it's configured to accept cookies from java (dot) com.
Then go to the following link: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
You want the online file which will be an .exe. See screenshot.

  • Emails won't stay checked/won't stay deleted

For the last few days, I have been experiencing a strange problem with email on my iPhone 4. I had not changed any email settings on the iPhone or on Gmail prior to the issue, but I have deleted and recreated all email accounts on the iPhone since. I've also installed 4.3.3 since the problem started, and it has not fixed the issue.
Deleting emails within the email app is only temporary. If I delete an email while viewing it, the email comes back within 5 seconds. If I try to select multiple emails to delete and wait a couple seconds (without actually deleting them), they all get unchecked automatically. If I am able to delete a few checked emails before they get unchecked, they disappear for a couple seconds and then reappear.
I am not getting any error messages, just bizarre behavior. I cannot delete emails from my phone anymore. I have to go to Gmail on the web to delete/archive emails.
Finally, if I open the email app and pause at the "Mailboxes" screen, it automatically takes me to the inbox of my first email account within a second or two. It never used to do this.
    HELP!

    1. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors and enable "Store deleted messages on the
server".  Close the Preferences window to save the changes.
    2. A Deleted Messages folder should have appeared on the left side mailboxes list. Right-click or ctrl-click
on it and from the contextual menu that appears, choose Delete.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. In the Finder, go to Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. (If you have Mountain Lion remember that your Library
folder is hidden, so you have to hold down the Option/Alt button, click on the Go tab at the top and library
will be in the menu list).
    5. Delete any Deleted Messages folder you see within your mailboxes.
    6. Launch Mail.
    7. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors and disable "Store deleted messages on
the server".  Close the Preferences window to save the changes.
If a Deleted Messages folder has appeared within the first level of the mailboxes list, select it and do
Mailboxes > Use This Mailbox For > Trash.

  • Mail account won't stay deleted, keeps reappearing.

Hello ... An apple mail account won't delete.  It keeps reappearing when I restart mail.  I've gone into system preferences, mail preferences, unchecked 'enable this account', unchecked 'include when checking', etc.  I can delete it, create my new mail account and things are good until I exit out of Mail, then when I reopen, the old account reappears and the new one is gone.  They are POPs.  Thanks.

Just in case anyone has this same problem, none of the above worked except for going into library/mail/maildata/accounts.plist file and removing any reference to the mailbox that won't delete.  I removed any inferences, saved the file and it works perfectly now.

  • Keyboard shortcuts won't stay deleted! ARGH!!!

I use the keyboard shortcut functions of iOS 8 extensively. I'm in the military and I'm stationed in Hawaii...which means a lot of names of things that the stock keyboard doesn't recognize, and a lot of military acronyms. I have iCloud backup turned on. My wife uses the same iTunes account on her phone.
I have a ton of shortcuts but let's just use a random example. I have a shortcut "un" that shortcuts to my standard forum username Matth3w. She hates this shortcut, so I deleted it and she deleted it off the phones.
IT KEEPS FREAKING REAPPEARING!!! I delete the darned thing once a day and it keeps coming back when I reboot or randomly. I've verified it's off both phones. *** is going on?
Doesn't iCloud and keyboard shortcut syncing work like Dropbox/Google Drive? Where the latest change is the one that is sync'd across all devices??? If I have Drive installed and I delete a file it certainly doesn't put it back on my computer again randomly each day, it DELETES it from the other devices/computers using Drive.
How can I get the shortcuts to sync properly? It does it even if I turn off iCloud backup!!
iOS 8.1 although this has been going on since I can remember. iOS 7 or 8.
I've tried shutting off iCloud, deleting, then signing back in, you name it.

This is stupid to even have to worry about with such an advanced and successful company. The Apple support reps told me to create a new Apple ID in hopes that it would fix it. that's such a stupid response. That's the equivalent of the 1990s "go to MSDOS prompt and type format c:" that you would get from Packard Bell tech support.
What's to say the NEW apple ID wouldn't screw up in a month anyhow?
Seriously Apple, this is amateur hour crap.

  • Photos won't stay deleted from iPhoto library

I deleted many photos from my iPhoto Library by moving them to Trash and then emptying the Trash. Then I re titled the remaining photos So far, so good, the pictures disappeared from both the Library and the Albums they were in BUT when I try to export an album to either another folder on my hard drive or a DVD the deleted photos reappear. Anyone know where they are hiding and how I can get rid of them? Thanks
    Garwol

Thanks for the idea John, but no go. I was talking about the iPhoto Trash. I moved the photos I wanted to delete there and then emptied the Trash.
Per your suggestion I moved the "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" from Preferences to Mac Trash (didn't empty Mac Trash because I was afraid I would lose the entire Library). When I copied the album to a new folder on my hard drive the photo I thought I had deleted re appeared. I put "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" back into Preferences just to play it safe.
Any other ideas on where the little buggers might be hiding and how I can get rid of them?
    Stan

  • Apps Won't Stay Deleted

I deleted a few apps from my 16GB iPhone 3G to see if it would start up faster (it takes about 3 minutes sometimes). i deleted last.fm, ebay, paypal, dice bag, NY times, urbanspoon, solar quest, box office, and apache lander. when i turned the phone off and back on (it took 2 minutes 30 seconds this time) most of those apps had returned to the phone even though i definitely deleted them. the apps that came back were ebay, paypal, dice bag, last.fm, apache lander, and urbanspoon. i deleted all these again, turned the phone off, then turned it back on. paypal and apache lander were gone but the rest were back again. i repeated the entire process again. this time only last.fm remained. so i tried again and deleted PegJump and Dreigit as well as last.fm. the start up took 2 minutes 10 seconds. last.fm was gone but the other two were back. whats going on?

well you would think that pressing the X in the corner of the app and confirming that you want to delete it would get rid of it completely from the phone. it even says "Deleting __ will also delete all of its data." yet some apps mysteriously return. i think its a glitch of some sort.

  • When I boot up my Mac, Messages opens automatically. I quit the app, but it just re-opens itself. It won't stay off!!! I can't figure out what's wrong with it!

For the past few months, my Mac has been acting weird. EVERY time I boot up the computer, Messages opens automaticallly (I am runing OS X 10.8.x). I quit the app, but it just re-opens a few seconds later! It just won't stay off! I've looked it up online and nothing helps. I have no idea what to do!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Messages won't delete

I just bought a new IMac and transferred my mailboxes from an eMac. The messages in my inbox that I had before transferred just fine, however the text from the message isn't there and now they won't even delete out of my inbox. When I move them to the trash or delete them, they just turn gray and stay there. I don't even need to recover them...just want my inbox empty. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

rebuilding the mailbox wouldn't work for me and neither did moving the Envelope Index file. I finally realized that my Mailbox Behaviors specified to not "Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox." this box was unchecked. Once I checked off this box all my mail which was once gray and just sitting there disappeared. I'm guessing 10.5.2 or some other update changed this setting since this issue was a recent one for me.

  • IPhone messages won't delete, can't free enough space?

    Hello,
I'm on an iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.1. I'm almost out of storage... I have 8.96 GB of "Documents & Data" and 8.51 GB of "Other."
Usage in settings indicates that I have 8.8 GB of messages saved. So I have to delete my messages. However, even after I restart, all my messages reappear and I have not freed any space. How come the messages keep reappearing when I try to delete them? Is there a way for me to delete them permanently?
And, what is this "other" category that is taking up so much space? I know that other used to be app data, but now with iOS 7 that has been split up into "Documents & Data."
So, how come my messages won't delete? Is there a way for me to permanently delete them to free space?
And how can I clear up space from my "Other" category?
Thanks so much for the help!

There is corrupted data on the phone.  You need to restore the phone using iTunes, without restoring a backup.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • IPad iOS 8.2 still won't allow delete of ALL email messages at once?

iOS 8.2 still won't allow deletion of ALL email messages at once from my iPad? What could be the reason for this? The work-around solutions I see on Internet work erratically for me.
I'm an Android cellphone user so can delete all emails from my phone with a click or two. Is that a patent issue for Apple? There is no way to delete ALL email messages easily?

Had the same problem. There is an undocumented way under another thread and it works, but is clunky and very un-Mac-like.
The Apple thread that I got the undocumented answer from is:
Delete all email in Inbox iOS7
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5421295?start=15&tstart=0
    I've copied the answer below:
    From inbox edit
MARK ALL AS READ (for me and several others in the thread it only works, when I marked all as read)
    Highlight first email
    Hold move button
Try to unhighlight first email (probably won't )
Still holding move button pull down on mails  and then try to unhighlight first email again
    This time it should
You will notice the inbox seems frozen as move is no longer highlighted and individual emails will not highlight if you touch them
Wait May take a minute or two depending on how many emails are in your inbox but they will move to the right side
    Then just touch trash
The YouTube link that demonstrates this is:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKa-KFjUIGE
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers!

  • Messages won't delete from inbox

Just upgraded to iOS7 on both iphone 4s and ipad2. In mail, on both devices (which are linked) deleted messages won't erase from the inbox - even though they have been permanently deleted from the mail editor on my computer. When I swipe left and hit trash, the message goes away for one second then reappears. I've tried re-booting the phone, didn't work. I definitely have the right passwords associated with the mail account in place. And haven't made any other changes to the mail settings since upgrading the operating system. I noticed that no one else has posted this problem using iOS7 yet, but have seen some threads using earlier formats - none of which were helpful in fixing my problem   thoughts? suggestions?

rebuild your inbox using mailbox menu->rebuild.
