Messaging Server 4.15 & firewall problems.
I have Messaging Server 4.15 behind a firewall & external mail server in DMZ. My customers strongly don't want to show their internal information in
the mail headers (hosts names, iPlanet Messaging Server name...)
1. Can I change mail server info & can I remove some information (iPlanet Messaging Server version, user host name & ip) from the mail headers?
2. As far as Messaging Server 4.15 is behind a firewall, some mail servers, which check sender's domain name, can't receive my customers mails (they
can't find iPlanet Messaging Server name because it is behind a firewall). How can I solve this problem? Will the change of mail server info in mail headers help me?
Removing such information is generally frowned upon by the community. By altering such information you could prevent mail from being delivered successfully.
As for point 2 even if your hosts are behind a firewall there should be public DNS records for them. It usually can be something generic like h-10.0.0.1.domain.com so that no real information is given away but other hosts on the internet can determine who you are.

I have just installed Lion OS and Face Time encounters server problems on sign up. I have sought to rectify the firewall problem without success and even temporarily turned off firewall with no success. Any ideas?
Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
OpenDNS

Google Public DNS

I keep getting an error message saying "There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type "file:" are not supported" Can someone help me locate and get rid of this error.
Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

actually the exe directory is not linked to the kernel. This looks unusual. As exe here should be linked to the /sapmnt/SID/exe

Problem Upgrading ims 5.2 to Sun Messaging Server 6 2005Q4

I've managed to resolve this issue after realising
i've missed out a very critical step. Copying of the
physical mailboxes over to the new server.Yes, that's an important step....
>
I've however hit another issue with the activation of
SSL encryption on the v6.2 messaging server.
the current setup is as follows:
1) Applications installed locally:
- Sun Messaging v6.2 server
- Sun Directory Server 5.2 2005Q4 ( For config store
of messaging server)
- Administration Server 2005Q4
User/groups store is located at a existing Iplanet
v5.2 Directory Server.
3) Service account for Messaging Server v6.2:
uid=mail gid=mail
4) Service account for local directory and admin
server: root
Problem faced:
- I've used the cert wizard from the admin console to
generate a cert request and to install the cert
generated from the CA.
- I've also added the CA cert of the CA that has
generated my server cert.
- Next, i've tried enabled SSL encryption, specifying
the use of my newly added server cert. I've save the
settings before exiting from the admin console.
- However, when i login to the admin console to check
the settings again. SSL encryption is now unchecked.
- I've also facing problem stopping and starting
services using the admin console. Especially after
specifying the SSL ports to use for the imap, pop and
http services.
- When i was finally able to restart the services,
the system did not listen on the specified SSL ports.
It seems that my 'Enable SSL' setting also resets
whenever i exit from the admin console.
Greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks in
advance.I suggest using configutil instead of the Console.
./configutil -o <setting to be changed> -v <new value>
Console is old and pretty flaky. It's going away in the next version. -
Problems With Adding Users to Messaging Server
I am having trouble installing SUN ONE Messaging Server 6.0
It is a new install of Solaris 9 on x86. I went through the Solaris Install and made sure that I did not install Apache or Sendmail, along with the older versions of the Messaging and Web server. When I gog to the Sun Java Enterprise System install, I selected Everything (I have tried part installs, but last time i picked Everything). During the setup I used all default settings.
Once it was installed I ran the comm_dssetup.pl script, but was only able to use "schema 1", it would give me errors like:
========================
You must first install Identity Server specifying this existing suffix (DIT)
Rerun this program once you have installed Identity Server
========================
I then ran configutil to change the http port of the SunONE Messenger Express to be port 85.
If I use the Sun ONE Console, I can start / stop the Messaging services, view the logs, brows the directory server.
If I add a user, the user I add cannot access any of the services. In fact the only user that I can use is the "admin" user.
Can someone please help me figure out what I am doing wrong, and how to add users?
I am working on a test box for now, so if anyone wants config files or more information please let me know, as I would very much like to move past this problem.Thank you for your quick reply.
The Server that I am setting up now is a test server, we are looking at moving to Solaris for the Sun ONE Web server, and it would be nice to use the messaging server as well.
I am surprised at how complex this is, and how little documentation there is about the technical parts.
I will start looking into getting the patches, and "registering" the mail service.
At least I have an idea of what I am looking for now. :)
At this point, because I am using a developer version of Solaris and JES, and doing it on my own time (we are not a very big company) I would like to avoid calling tech support, as I am not sure what the cost would be for that.
When I re-install the OS, which I have done at least once a day for the last 6 or 7 days, I will install the items you have suggested.
Thanks for the advice and the point in the direction of getting this working. -

... 5 moreI vaguely remember that there was a Messaging Server bug that
caused it to fail because JavaMail was sending it two packets
containing the data but it was expecting all the data to be in one
packet. I thought JavaMail was fixed to send it one packet, to
avoid the bug, and I thought the server was fixed as well so be
sure to check for relevant patches. And be sure you're using the
latest version of JavaMail.
If I remember correctly, telnet was batching the data for the entire
line and sending it in a single packet, which is why it worked when
using telnet.
You might try a network protocol analyzer (sniffer) like snoop on
Solaris or tcpdump on Linux to see exactly what packets are being
sent. -
Problem for configuring messaging server
Hi all,
I'm currently reinstalling my dev environnement. I'm working on Solaris 10 x86.
I have installed DSEE 6.3.1, and executing comds script.
I have installed messaging server from Communication Suite 6u2. (I want to update to CommSuite 7 later )
root@msg1dev# /opt/sun/comms/messaging/bin/imsimta version

Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
SunOS msg1dev 5.10 Generic_137112-03 i86pc i386 i86pc
After executing the configure script (where postmaster address is asked), I want to test my messaging system with the command :
./imsimta test -rewrite postmaster. But this return an error :

I haven't this error on my production environnemnt, so I suppose the problem is here.
Have I forget something ?
Thks for your help.

The "installation guide" says that if you are doing so, you need to create a file named libx11.so.4 and update your LD_LIBRARY_PATH (see http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/messaging/ims52/ig/unix/overview.htm)but:
1- the library name is libX11.so.4 and
2- for jre a common file is not enough, you need to install SUNWxwplt at least. This will install the library on /usr/openwin/lib.
You can check the results running <server-root>/bin/base/jre/bin/jre
Hope that helps and sorry about my poor english. -
Problem with message server.
Hi folks,
We had to use IDES (4.7) on a standalone workstation to test some BizTalk functionality.
The workstation has Windows Server 2003 and we only have SQL Server 2000 available with us.
The installation has gone through fine, we are able to even log into the 000 client with the SAP* userid. How ever, the MMC reports that the message server has errors and has STOPPED the service.
I have scourged the forum trying to look out for answers but is a NO GO till now.
Please help.
Below is the info i think might be useful for trouble shooting.

The services file under /etc folder has the below entry entered correctly.
sapmsIDS 3600/tcp
The hosts file also has the correct entry
127.0.0.1 localhost
Can anybody help resolve the problem?> We had to use IDES (4.7) on a standalone workstation to test some BizTalk functionality.
> The workstation has Windows Server 2003 and we only have SQL Server 2000 available with us.
If you have a valid license you can download a recent installation version with SQL Server 2005.

Is there a new line unterneath this entry?

Is that all you have in your hosts? Usually you should have the hostname plus the IP addresse of the system.

Messaging Server: Problem Adding SSL Certificate
We have a problem importing a CA certificate into Messaging Server 7 on Solaris 10 x86.
Platform
uname -a
SunOS mail1 5.10 Generic_138889-03 i86pc i386 i86pcMessaging Server Version
imsimta version
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7.0-3.01 64bit (built Dec 9 2008)
libimta.so 7.0-3.01 64bit (built 09:24:13, Dec 9 2008)We have created a certificate database and generated a certificate request, as follows:
msgcert generate-certDB
msgcert request-cert --name mail.domain.xxx --org "University of XXX" --org-unit ITS --city XXX --state "XXX" --country GB -F ascii -o /tmp/ssl.csrHowever, when we come to import the CA-supplied certificate we get the following error.
msgcert add-cert Server-Cert /tmp/mail1.crt
Enter the certificate database password:
Unable to find private key for this certificate.
Failed to add the certificate.I'm confused. What does the msgcert request-cert command use as a private key when generating the certificate request? Should I have used openssl to generate the certificate request with a known private key?
Thanks
AlanI solved the problem by converting certificate to pkcs#12 format and importing it.
openssl pkcs12 -export -in cert.pem -inkey private.key -out cert.pkcs12 -name Server-Cert
/opt/sun/comms/messaging64/bin/msgcert add-cert Server-Cert cert.pkcs12Alan -
Help! Broadcasting error: port problem with message server
Dear all,
I have a problem with our broadcasting in BW7.
I've checked all the pameters in ICM, that is correct.
I used RSBB_URL_PREFIX_GET to check HTTP server host and port
settings, and also check for message server.
The port of message server is 8101, and for ICM is 8001.
In RZ10, they are set as:
icm/server_port_0 PROT=HTTP,PORT=80$$
ms/server_port_0 PROT=HTTP,PORT=81$$
When I use broadcasting, the port 8101 is taken, and the error message is displayed:
'Page cannot be displayed
If I change the port to 8001 in address, it works.
As the how-to guide for Enabling BW web functionaality after new installation, the port 8101 would be reset to 8001 automatically when executing.
But it doesn't work.
Do you have any idea?
Thanks a lot!
JuanHi,
I have modified PORT=80$$ to 8001, and 81$$ to 8101, but the error occurs always.
Could anyone help?
Juan
