    Hi all,
    Please tell the steps to install and configure Sun Java Messaging Server 6 2005Q4.
    Thanks.

    You aren't providing a lot of informations... in this case the answer could be: run the command
    /cdrom/jes_05_q4_dvd/Solaris_sparc/installer
    if you just want to install messaging server on a single host, for evaluation purpose, in the documentation
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4879
    there is an exhaustive guide. If instead you're trying to addres some specific question, then please give us more details such as O.S., schema version, and so on...

  • Problem Upgrading ims 5.2 to Sun Messaging Server 6 2005Q4

    I've an ims 5.2 running on an existing Solaris box, arnold. I'm planning to upgrade it to 6.2 on a new box, zion.

    Thanks for the explanation.
    I've managed to resolve this issue after realising
    i've missed out a very critical step. Copying of the
    physical mailboxes over to the new server.Yes, that's an important step....
    >
    I've however hit another issue with the activation of
    SSL encryption on the v6.2 messaging server.
    the current setup is as follows:
    1) Applications installed locally:
    - Sun Messaging v6.2 server
    - Sun Directory Server 5.2 2005Q4 ( For config store
    of messaging server)
    - Administration Server 2005Q4
    User/groups store is located at a existing Iplanet
    v5.2 Directory Server.
    3) Service account for Messaging Server v6.2:
    uid=mail gid=mail
    4) Service account for local directory and admin
    server: root
    Problem faced:
    - I've used the cert wizard from the admin console to
    generate a cert request and to install the cert
    generated from the CA.
    - I've also added the CA cert of the CA that has
    generated my server cert.
    - Next, i've tried enabled SSL encryption, specifying
    the use of my newly added server cert. I've save the
    settings before exiting from the admin console.
    - However, when i login to the admin console to check
    the settings again. SSL encryption is now unchecked.
    - I've also facing problem stopping and starting
    services using the admin console. Especially after
    specifying the SSL ports to use for the imap, pop and
    http services.
    - When i was finally able to restart the services,
    the system did not listen on the specified SSL ports.
    It seems that my 'Enable SSL' setting also resets
    whenever i exit from the admin console.
    Greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks in
    advance.I suggest using configutil instead of the Console.
    ./configutil -o <setting to be changed> -v <new value>
    Console is old and pretty flaky. It's going away in the next version.

  • How can i convert /var/mail mailboxes to Messaging server 5.1?

    Hi,
    U need to follow the following steps to configure the Mailboxes for the user from NMS 4.x to ICS 5.x
    Migrate the Netscape Messaging Server message store to iPlanet Messaging Server message store.
    Change the primary store partition path to point at the Netscape Messaging Server 4.x message store path as follows:
    Use the iPlanet Messaging Server Administration Console to change the message store configuration to point to all the Netscape Messaging Server 4.x mail store partitions (mailstore is the example given in step 5).
    Remove the user subscriptions directory.
    Copy the Netscape Messaging Server message store:
    NMSServerRoot/mailstore/store/user/
    to:
    iMSServerRoot/msg-instance/store/user/
    (mailstore is the example given in step 5.)
    Copy the mboxlist file:
    NMSServerRoot/mailstore/store/mboxlist/data.db2
    to
    iMSServerRoot/msg-instance/store/mboxlist/folder.db
    Copy the quota files:
    NMSServerRoot/mailstore/store/quota.db2
    to
    iMSServerRoot/msg-instance/mboxlist/quota.db
    Do not copy any other files!
    (Step 12) Configure dirsync to support the new multi-system schema by using configutil to add the following two parameters:
    InstanceRoot/configutil -o local.imta.schematag
    -v "ims50,nms41"
    InstanceRoot/configutil -o local.imta.ugfilter
    -v (|(objectClass=inetLocalMailRecipient)
    (|(objectClass=mailRecipient) (objectclass=mailGroup)))
    (Step 13) Run a full dirsync to pick up the user and group entries:
    InstanceRoot/imsimta dirsync -F
    (Step 14) Restart iPlanet Messaging Server. You can now see the Netscape Messaging Server 4.x user mailboxes.
    The mail server is now available for use. At this time iPlanet Messaging Server is working off the old directory entries in: ldap.sesta.com using multi-schema support. New user and group entries will be created in the new directory nodes.

  • Messaging server 6.3 enquiry

    Hi gurus,
    Can a all in one single host support 2000 end users? If I follow the deployment in a single host from sun docs, is there any part of configuration that I need to notice on? Because I am going to implement messaging server for a local university, their requirement is ldap and messaging in one servers, mail store will be extended in the future(additional disk) if not enough storage.
    Since in the docs saying that it is only for evaluation and not for production purposes, I am worrying on this. Any advise?
    Thanks alot

    Hi,
    Can a all in one single host support 2000 end users?What kind of hardware are we talking about, how much RAM etc.? Also what type of disk-storage is being used?
    The number of users is not nearly as important as the type of use. If the customers are using webmail only then you can support more then say if they are using Thunderbird/Lightning for calendar/email with IM using a Jabber client or whatever.
    Also depending on how much email needs to be processed etc. will be a factor.
    Backups are also an issue -- how much storage is to be used etc. etc.
    If I follow the deployment in a single host from sun
    docs, is there any part of configuration that I need
    to notice on? Don't. This is not an appropriate deployment for production use.
    Because I am going to implement
    messaging server for a local university, their
    requirement is ldap and messaging in one servers,
    mail store will be extended in the future(additional
    disk) if not enough storage. If you are to deploy onto a single host, the use of zones is HIGHLY recommended (I assume you are using Solaris, if Linux well then .... hmm buy more systems). The following document describes why this is the case (although its for 2005Q4 it is still relevant) : http://www.sun.com/blueprints/0806/819-7663.html
    Since in the docs saying that it is only for
    evaluation and not for production purposes, I am
    worrying on this. Any advise?Although it may work you are definitely not going to get the best performance out of your system. The link provided earlier shows the impact of running a single-host install vs. splitting the install across systems whether they be real or in this case, virtual (zones/containers).

    Shane.

  • Messaging Server on Sun Cluster

    Hi,
    My messaging server is Sun ONE Messaging Server version 6.1 ,Directory server version 5.2 , Sun Cluster 3.1

    I'm sorry, I don't see any problem with your imta.cnf, nor do I understand exactly what the problem is. All you say is, " And I want to configure the messaging server to use "mail.ezone.com" for Sun Cluster.
    But I can not configure the messaging server to use this name."
    What prevents you from configuring Messaging Server frm using "mail.ezone.com" as it's name?

  • Messaging server and external LDAP user store

    Is it possible to have an external LDAP application store all user information and then have the messaging server authenticate against it and create a mail profile in it's own LDAP instance, similar to the way portal handles LDAP users? If not, what is the best way to store user information outside of the mail server instance? Create an LDAP instance and extend the schema to support the mail classes and then use replication to push the users into the mail servers directory instance?

    Correct, extending the schema on the master directory server and replicating down to the messaging server ldap instance the user info is the way to go.
    This way you do not have to maintain two different sets of user data.

    When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
    Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
    Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
    First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
    Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
    Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
    Hope that helps some of you!

  • I get a message the message " Can not get mail. Not connected to server" Yet I am connected with Wi-fi and can access all other websites. Can you advise? My iPad is only a month old!

    Has any one experienced not being able to send mail and only receiving some? I get the message " can not get mail. No connection to the server! " Yet I get some mail but can not send out any. My iPad is only 1 month old! It worked perfectly for about 10 days.

    Hey agnesfromcopenhagen k,
    Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Mail on your iPad. The following resource provides some troubleshooting steps. What kind of account are you using? Some internet providers require that you be connected to your home Wi-Fi (or for work accounts, inside your corporate Wi-Fi/firewall). Also, some email accounts require two-step authentication. The maximum value of maxlogfilesize is 2GB (a common filesystem limit).
    There is a whole write-up on logging and how to configure your system to keep a large amount of logs here:

    Thanks for your help

    I'm not sure what "IPS wireless" is, but unless you have an Apple Wi-Fi base station (such as a Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, or AirPort Express), AirPort Utility won't see anything.
    You might try defining a new SMTP server to see if that will work any better.
    By the way, the subject field for these messages isn't intended to hold a lot of text.  Put a short description of your problem in the subject field and save the rest of your message for the body field.

    I just purchased an ipad2 and I can receive e-mails but I can't reply to or forward them.  I also can't send a new e-mail.  I receive a message that the e-mail has been placed in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.'  On my laptop, using the same e-mail server, I am fine.  What can I do to make the ipad2 e-mail function properly?

    Contact whoever manages your email server and ask them what ports and security to use for SMTP from remote locations. ISPs and email admins often require different SMTP settings when sending email when not connected to the server's or ISP's network.

  • JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address

    JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address
    I have installed the Sun ONE Messaging server 6.0 as part of an evaluation of the Java Enterprise System. This was installed along with Directory Server 5.2 and Identity Server 6.1. During the installation I created a top level organization (o=internet) knowing that I would want to create multiple email domains within it and a default domain. After the installation was complete I used the User Management Utility (/opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin) to create some users within the default domain. I provided each user with a primary email address ([email protected]) and an alternate email address (mailAleternateAddress = [email protected]).
    In testing the system I find that the Messaging Server will not accept messages sent to the alternate email address whether sent from the same server (via Messenger Express) or from an external server. It returns the error message: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias.
    In attempting to trouble shoot this problem I have watched the Directory Server's access log when such an email is sent. It shows a query using [email protected] even though the email message was sent to [email protected] In any event the DS finds the user, but the Messaging server rejects the message.

    Both the primary and alternate email addresses are the same as the domain of the user.
    Here is what I want to do. Email is sent to a primary email server (not this machine). Mail for some users stays on that server to be read and mail for other users is moved to a geographically separate server (the one in question) by specifying that the mail be forwarded to the specific host: [email protected] > [email protected]
    On this second server I want to host two (or more) independent email domains. I do not want one of the domains to be a subdomain of the other. So during the installation I used o=internet as the root suffix and then used a different default domain (representing one of the registered internet domains). After installation I used the commadmin tool to create a second domain so now I have what looks something like this:
    o=internet,
    __ou=People
    __ou=Groups
    __o=domain1
    ____ou=People
    ____ou=Groups
    __o=domain2
    ____ou=People
    ____ou=Groups
    I then created some users under domain1 and some under domain2 so one user's dn is:
    uid=user, ou=people, o= domain1.com, o=internet.
    Mail sent locally to user@ domain1.com gets delivered correctly, but sending to [email protected] does not.
    host2.domain1.com is the fully qualified domain name of the server.

  • How to configure Symantec Mail Security for SMTP & Messaging Server 6.3

    Hi!
    I want to install a Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 5.0.1(host1) with Messaging Server 6.3 (in production - host2), but when I try to access to POP protocol to send a message from Internet, the system display a message with a relay problem.
    - Could you help me with this issue?,
    - Do you know some documentation that speaks of this?. I can't find any documentation that explain how to configure and integrate SMS and Messaging Server. Thanks in advance.
    Regards, CR

    internet -> symantec mail security system -> sun messaging server -> recipientA better approach is the following
    internet -> sun messaging server -> recipient

Thanks in advance.There is no documentation specifically for symantec software but we do document how to send emails via the symantec mail security server using the aliasdetourhost channel keyword:

  • When i send a mail to the user of messaging server, it returns saying unknown user.

    I am trying to add a mail user to iplanet messaging server 5.1, I am able to configure that user from my mail client (outlook) but when i send mail to that user, it returns saying unknown user. I can see that user in LDAP data base/

    This could be symptomatic of the iMS 5.1 server not yet having done a full synch to its alias database of the LDAP server. This is done every 24 hours (default) at 2 or 3 am. You can synch manually by running the "imsimta dirsync -F" command.
