Messaging server 7 duplicate folders
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7.3-11.01 64bit (built Sep 1 2009)
libimta.so 7.3-11.01 64bit (built 19:54:45, Sep 1 2009)
Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
SunOS 5.10 Generic_142900-03 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120
After installling messaging server 7 and restoring data (imsrestore), webmail client shows me a draft folder and a Borradores (spanish) folder.
The messenger express client shows both as "Borradores" and just one keeps old messages, but new ones are save in the other one.
The same issue for Sent (Enviados) and Trash (Basura).
Not all users present this problem, and have not found the characteristic that makes the diference.
The ldap entry atributes (related with folder configuration) for a right user (no duplicate folders) is like this:
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Sent
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meTrashFolder=Trash
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
And for a wrong user:
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Enviado
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDateFormat=0/
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meColorSet=5
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: mePrevTrash=Papelera
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meExpungeOnExit=true
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meViewSize=100
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meAutoSpell=true
nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
I have tryied changing nswmExtendedUserPrefs attribute from "meSentFolder=Borradores" to "meSentFolder=Draft" without success.
I am not sure where is the problem, messaging configuration or it is a ldap issue.
Any idea will be apreciated, thanks.
adding to what Shane said...
doing this via IMAP is the best bet. If you are moving messages between folders in the same account, you can do that via IMAP and the Message Store will end up doing it all via hard links in the file system rather than actually copying the data. So it should be nice and fast and low impact on your disk space and system. In IMAP, "move" consists of COPY to the destination folder and then flagging the originals as deleted and doing expunge. That will update store.* files and create hard links for the messages in the destination folders, but not copy the message data. You will not need to do any reconstructs.
imsbackup/imsrestore could do it, but will end up copying the data - unless you enable real time relinker - so this method is more load on the system.
And manually moving the files around in the store would require reconstruct and is generally not as good an idea as doing it via IMAP. If you have only a few folders to do this to, then you could do the IMAP commands by hand as easily as you could hack on the store files directly.

Duplicate folders/files can't be deleted
Some duplicate folders/files may caused read error on the filesystem. After deleted those folders/files, the XSAN client seems work now.
However some duplicate folders/files still automaticaly gengrated and be seen on Server side(highlighted below).Those files won't be seen on client machine and are all unable to be deleted.
Can't you help us to figure out what's the problem?

Quit all applications and try deleting again. If you get the same message, you'll have to track down what's open. One way is to launch the Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/, type in this command, hit the return key, and get the /dev/disk information for the attached disks:
df -h
This is an example of what you should see:
/dev/disk0s10 52162400 35274040 16888360 68% /Volumes/<name of other HD>
Then, enter this command, hit the return key, and peruse the output for the culprit(s) on that other drive:
lsof /dev/disk0s10
The only thing that should be listed is something like this, but that shouldn't prevent the disk from unmounting.

If there are other processes and open files, you'll have to stop the processes. Launch Activity Monitor, check the process number that's running (in this example it's Finder w/process #260), select it, click on the Quit Process button, and click on the Quit button in the dialog box that pops up. Now, try deleting the folders.

I am working in a new enviorment and i am trying to save a report to the Crystal Server via the CMC. I am uploading the report from the objects tab and attempting to save to a folder. The report has 1 static defined parameter and that's it. When i click submit to save the report i receive the following error message: "There was an error while writing data back to the server: Failed to commit objects to server : Duplicate object name in the same folder." There is not a anothe report within the folder with that name. What could be causing this error message and equally important, what is the solution.hte message you received about duplicate user probably means something hadn't fully updated yet. Once it did then it worked...

Can no longer see messages in public folders in Outlook (2010) conversation view
(originally posted this under MS Community outlook discussion and it was suggested I post it here):
Hello:
I believe this may be related to a recent update, but previously I could see messages from public folders in my conversation view. Now, I am only able to see messages in private folders (including sent items).
I have the cached exchange mode on.
I loved the conversation view because I could move e-mails out of my inbox to public folders (on our company server) to keep my inbox under required size limits, but still have easy access to e-mails within the conversation string. That view in my
opinion was the best upgrade to Outlook when it first came out. Now it's virtually useless for me again.
If there's something i can change to get those messages re-appearing again I'd really love to know what I can do, it was really useful for me.
Thanks in advance to any who reply!Hi,
Based on the descrtiption, I know that there is no emails exist in public folder when using conversation view in Outlook after installing update.
1. I suggest use OWA to check whether emails exist in public folder when using Conversation View. If it works well, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
2. Please check the connectivity between Outlook and Public Folder.
3. I suggest disable conversation view for test to verify whether emails appear in public folder. If the emails appear, it seems an issue on Outlook Conversation View.
4. I also suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins. Try to re-create profile to refresh the caches.
Thanks

BestHi,

The junk emails are sent now to the folder "Junk" in the users mailbox, can you comment on the following
1. Does the spam emails live in the Junk forlder forever until the user delete them?Emails aren't deleted from users email folders (including Junk) unless you have configured a folder expiry rule. The following web-page steps you through what is required to set up just such an expire rule:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2650/6n4u4dttr?l=en&a=view
2. If I need to discard completely the spam emails instead of sending them to a folder in the user mailbox, what change should I do to the channel configuration?The following link gives an example of how to configured a sieve rule which will discard emails above a certain spamassassin score and to fileinto a 'spam' folder if the score is below this value.
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/6n6j4261t?a=view#gebhx
3. After applying the patch, the documentation says that I can work with the existing configuration files or upgrade using a set of commands, do you think keeping the existing configuration (to minimize the changes) will work fine?You definitely need to run the ./patch-config and ./install-newconfig commands post-upgrade. Otherwise fixes that have been made to things such as the messaging express interface will not be represented (files need to be changed for a lot of the fixes).

"Recent messages" on mail folders are not "recent"
I have just got a 3Gs, and am using it with a MobileMe account. I have a number of subfolders for archived messages in my mail account, and I have set the iPhone to download the most recent 50 messages in those folders. However, the messages that it pulls off the server seem almost random. For example, in one mail box, the 50 most recent messages on the server would go back only to 22 June 2009, but in the folder on my iPhone, the first message is 18 June (it has ignored all the messages between 18 June and today, which is over 60), and it goes through messages from 2008, 2007 right back to 2004, and even 2001 choosing random messages from the whole folder.
I have deleted the MobileMe account and added again - same problem.
I really need the 50 (or 100 or 200) MOST RECENT messages from the IMAP server, and I would appreciate some suggestions as to what's going on here.
Thanks and regards,
SimonOne further point - I have experimented with a standard IMAP account (not MobileMe), and the "recent messages" list correctly shows the 25/50 etc NEWEST messages in each folder...

Message mapping - Duplicate subtree
Hi Experts,
I am working on 7.0 server.
In the existing message mapping I found that target nodes are duplicated.
For example
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
And the order for the node in the target message structure is same as above.
And in the output, the order is reversed as below
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
But when am duplicating one more node in the existsing mapping the order is
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[2]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
And now the output is
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[2]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
But I need the output as
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[2]
Please let me know if you have faced similar issue.
If am creating a new message mapping and duplicating the subtrees the order is given below
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp
/ns0:FiletoFile_ib_mt/Record/Emp[1]
Why in the existing mapping duplicate subtree is going in the top order and for new message mapping duplicate subtree is going in the bottom. Please advice
Thanks
Suma SHi Lucas
I checked this sap note but I used PI 7.0.
This happens from 7.10 onwards and this is primarily due to the reason that the occurence of the duplicated node was not remembered when the mapping program gets executed. So, the mapping program was expecting data from the payload for the duplicated node and hence the error -
New messages in custom folders
Hi
I have the following setup:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-4.03 (built Sep 22 2005)
libimta.so 6.2-4.03 (built 04:37:42, Sep 22 2005)
And oulook connector 7.1.223.0 (MS Outlook 2003)
My problem is mail sent to custom folders using sieve mailfilters (file to) will not be detected by outlook as new mail. To get the new mail count I need to select the folder. Is this by design or a bug?
uwc webmail will neither show the unread count for any mailfolders
reg
ArildIt is something client must do.
Mozilla/thunderbird has an open to do this. In the folder list, right-click on the folder and select properties. In the resulting dialog box, check "Check this folder for new messages".
I have that selected for one folder other than my inbox. Every 10 minutes (as per the account settings -> server settings -> check for new messages every NN minutes) it checks both my inbox and that other folder. It also checks them both when I click "get mail." -
Blank Duplicate Folders Not Deleteable!
Hi All
Got my iphone 4 yesterday and set it all up and bundled apps into folders.
Everything went good until I downloaded the iphone4 case program app and now I have 10 blank duplicated named folders! I can't seem to delete them either. Tried syncing again but the folders are still in the phone. Anyone has this problem and know a fix for this? Any comments are very appreciated.
On another problem, I noticed that the battery seems to deplete very quickly whilst in sleep mode. Any fix?
Thanks in advanceHello!
I'm sorry that you are having trouble deleting those pesky duplicated folders. Did you try opening one of them and doing the tap + hold until the app inside the folder starts to wiggle?
Try doing that and drag the unwanted app(s) out of the folder, one by one. This would makes those folders disappear. I know it is a bit tedious but it was the only thing I know that worked when the duplicate folders happened to me. Perhaps someone else has a quicker solution(?).
As for battery drainage, I suggest you turn off all push notifications from your e-mail and any location services that are running in the background that you are not using. See if that helps.

Wrong numbers of unread messages reported on folders
Hi,
I have a very annoying problem with Mail where it reports the number of unread messages incorrectly on folders other than my inbox. I am using an IMAP account, with rules on the server to file messages to different folders depending on what address they were sent to.
Then often Mail will report 2 unread messages in one of these folders but clicking on the folder makes it recalculate to the correct value, 1.
Doing a rebuild on the folder seemed to fix it for about a day, but obviously it's not practical to do that so often.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix/workaround?Thanks - I understand the read flag is set on the server, but I don't think that's the case here. Mail is not incorrectly reporting some messages as read when they aren't - it just has the count of unread wrong (in subscription folders, not in the inbox)...
Also although I do access mail from other machines/web client it happens when I haven't...
Ie
send mail to myself at address that gets filed into a folder by the server
no log on to mail from web or other computer
mail arrives in folder, reported by Mail as 2 unread messages
click on folder, resyncs very quickly, unread count revised to 1 (correct)
In fact once I was watching while a mail came in - the count first showed 1 (correct) then quickly changed to 2.
I'm not sure what extra info I can provide - I had imagined this was a common problem since through google I found many others observing the same behaviour (but no solution).
The IMAP account is with Fastmail, who I believe run Cyrus.
I have letterbox and IMAP-IDLE plugin, but this problem was happening before installation of both of those.
Thanks again,
PS
as a side note - my drafts folder (on the server) reports 2 messages unread (there are two messages in there) - is this normal? (drafts to be reported as unread) - I must admit I'd prefer they weren't. -
Messaging Server: mail and mailalternativeaddress attributes must be unique
Email addresses for a given User Directory must have unique mail
and mailalternativeaddress
attributes.
<P>
Messaging Server uses the following two attributes to search for email
addresses in the User Directory:<BR>
<P>
<OL>
<LI>mail
<LI>mailalternativeaddress
</OL>
<P>
Each email address in the User Directory must have unique entries for these
two attributes. If a given email address appears twice in the User Directory,
the Messaging Server will display an error message and will not deliver the
email to either address. In the case where a user wants email that is
addressed to one email address to go to other email addresses as well (e.g., if
a user has multiple accounts), you would need to create a group for that user
and add the other email addresses to the group.
<P>
<B>Additional Notes:</B>
<P>
<UL>
<LI>Administration Server 3.x and 4.x have various mechanisms for
reducing the likelihood of user error when creating email accounts.
<P>
<LI>Administrators of Directory Server 4.x servers should also be aware that
the mail and
mailalternativeaddress
attributes must be unique to prevent collisions between those two attributes.
<P>
The uid uniqueness plugin maintains uniqueness within attributes, but not across attributes.
Using this feature for both attributes cannot fully prevent address collisions.
<BR><P>
For example, a user could theoretically enter duplicate values for the
mail and
mailalternativeaddress attributes:
<BR>
<P>
mail: [email protected]
<BR>
<P>
mailalternativeaddress: [email protected]
<P>
Although the server would initially accept this value for both attributes, it
will post an error message later when it processes an email addressed to this
address.
</UL>What does “I overwrote the information in Accounts” mean? What exactly did you do? More info, please.
Deleting a mail account (which i not the same as overwritting the account information) causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you you were warned that this would happen by an alert similar to this for Mail 2.x (I don’t know what the exact wording is in Mac OS X 10.3):
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless — see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
If the POP account was configured to leave the messages on the server for some time, setting up the account again would cause any messages still on the server to be downloaded again, just like for IMAP accounts, but this would only work for received mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted mbox files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 2.x). Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten. -

Messaging Server 4: imapd uses all available CPU
Busy IMAP servers consume all available CPU capacity.
<P>
Customers with many (100+) simultaneous client IMAP connections may find that
imapd runs very slowly. This problem is caused by IMAP commands sent by the
client regarding shared folders.
<P>
Newer versions of Communicator send less CPU intensive commands. Netscape
recommends that customers upgrade all clients to Communicator 4.5 or later.
<P>
Customers with Messaging Server 4.03 and later can disable discovery of
shared folders by clients. Mail administrators who do not use shared folders may wish to turn off
shared folders with the follwoing command:
<P>
configutil -o local.store.sharedfolders -v off
<P>
Shared folders are controlled by a configdb
parameter that is not in the default list of configdb parameters.Busy IMAP servers consume all available CPU capacity.

How do I set the mailhost attribute in Messaging Server 3.5?
<B>Intent of the hostname aliases feature: </B><BR>
In Messaging Server 3.5, the hostname aliases feature is designed to facilitate migrating and co-hosting. For
instance, if you set up all of your sales and marketing users on one Messaging Server, but suspect that you'll
want to split those groups in the future, you can give the sales users the mailhost value sales.company.com and
the marketing users the mailhost value mktg.company.com. This feature can also be used for fast failover if
you want to be able to move a group of users quickly from one Messaging Server to another.
<P>
<B>How to use hostname aliases and how to set mailhost and MessageHostName settings: </B><BR>
Each user's mailhost attribute can have only one value. All users on a single Messaging Server do not need to
have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. The user's mailhost value should match one of the
MessageHostName attribute values in netscape.mail.conf. (On Unix, the path to this file is
/etc/netscape.mail.conf. Windows NT users must use Notepad to create this file in
server-root\bin\mail\Server\etc, where server-root is the base directory where your SuiteSpot servers are
installed.)
<P>
With Messaging Server 3.5 and later, MessageHostName can have multiple values. Think of hostnames as
colors. Each mail account in the LDAP server has a single color. Each Messaging Server has one or more
colors. A Messaging Server will check an LDAP account's color (mailhost) against its own color(s)
(MessageHostName), and if they match, the server considers the account to be local. <P>
For example: <BR>
MessageHostName=red.company.com,green.company.com,blue.company.com
<BR>where original-host-name is the machine's real name. This entry must come first as the server uses the first
entry to generate machine specific postmaster forms. The subsequent host names can be any values that you
wish separated by commas that are inside the brackets. Do not place spaces anywhere on the line.
<P>
In this example, if the mailhost setting for the user is set for either red.company.com or green.company.com, or
blue.company.com, the server will consider the user to be local. (Hostname aliases must also be configured in
DNS. Please see the DNS section at the end of this technote.) No other Messaging Server should list either
red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com in the MessageHostName field. Mail could
not be delivered properly if either red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com were listed
in any other server's MessageHostName field. A user with a mailhost setting of violet.company.com would not
be considered local to this machine.
<P>
Although it is possible with Messaging Server 3.52 to list more than 16 different host names in the
MessageHostName field, it is not recommended because increasing the number of hostnames in this field beyond
16 will have a negative impact on performance. This feature is intended to provide fast failover and/or
migration of users. If users need to be divided up into many smaller groups, the use of some other LDAP
attribute is recommended.
<P>
In Messaging Server 3.0, you can associate a server with only one host name. Consequently, all mail accounts
on a given server must have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. This should be the name of the
server, i.e. host.company.com
<P>
</A>A note about DNS
Hostname aliases must be configured in DNS. This is done with a CNAME record. For example:
A 128.101.101.101
CNAME
<P>
Additional MX records are not required to use hostname aliases.
<P>
If you aren't sure about how to configure your DNS records, consult the book <I>DNS and Bind </I> by Paul Albitz and
Cricket Liu.You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac). For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always. I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas
