Messaging Server & Cluster Geographic Edidtion
Hi, I'm running iPS 5.1 on Solaris 8 and old Sun box (Enterprise 250). I'm going to buy 2 new "Sun" servers and migrate existing "mail server" to the new one(s), I believe it will be 6.2. We have about 250 users and as of now about 80 GB of e-mail stored on attached Raid Array StorEdge 3310 (250Gb).
Our future configuration will be (if possible):
Server1 (active) location1 with attached Raid Array StorEdge 3310
Server2 (passive)  location2
When Server1 fails Server2 takes over.
My questions are:
1) Is there any recommended Sun box for our project (to handle easily our e-mail server and still have room for expansion in the future)? I have in mind Sun Fire V240 Medium is it ok?
2) What is the bandwidth requirement for the connection between two servers running Cluster Geographic Edition?
3) Is it possible to migrate from iPlanet 5.1 to 6.2?
4) Do I need to have another Raid Array in Location2 attached to the Server2?
If anyone can help me answer these questions, it will be greatly appreciated.
For last couple days Im trying to get some answers from Sun but so far they just bounce me back and forth promising somebody call me back what didnt happen yet.

2) What is the bandwidth requirement for the

attached to the Server2?I'm unfamiliar with the geographic cluster. . .

"Currently, no Sun Cluster High Availability agent is supplied for the 64bit version of Messaging Server 6.3. If you are looking to provide cluster support for your 64bit installation, contact Sun Support. "
The agents are scheduled to be provided in the next release of messaging server (due next year).

Just updated to 3.6.8. Now can't navigate reliably. Frequently get this error message: "Server Error in '/' Application. Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster." Pending fix of this glitch, is there a way to go back to previous version of Firefox that worked perfectly well?

According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you deleted columns in SharePoint 2010.
Please add the following string in <system.web> section of your web.config file :
<pages validateRequest="false" enableEventValidation="false" viewStateEncryptionMode ="Never" />
Note: before changing web.config, please make a backup for the file.

Messaging Server on Sun Cluster
Hi,
My messaging server is Sun ONE Messaging Server version 6.1 ,Directory server version 5.2 , Sun Cluster 3.1
I install the directory server to use "ldap.ezone.com" name. And I want to configure the messaging server to use "mail.ezone.com" for Sun Cluster.
But I can not configure the messaging server to use this name.
Can you let me know how to install the messaging server and run "confugre" script to use "mail.ezone.com"
Thanks
Lee.

I had the same problem, but i didn't get any answer in that forum.
I deinstalled the SAP Software (regard the end of the threat
https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=22036513&messageID=6625975) and then I installed the software again. Then the system ran and i didn't have any more problems with the message server.
I didn't installed the MS Loopback Adapter, because i am connected to a network.

Use message server as load balancing instead of web dispacher for XI in HA
Hi all!
We are currently upgrading a cluster XI installation from 3.0 to 7.0.
The idea is:
Now: 1 node (central instance)
1 node (database)
Future: 1 node (central instance)
1 node (database + application instance)
So we need some king of load balancing between the two instances.
We already know web dispatcher and all configuration required. However we
were trying not to use it but use the abap/java message server who can also do
the redirect.
However, once the Exchange Profile has been updated, it does not work.
If we change "com.sap.aii.connect.repository.httpport" to "8101". Cache refresh stop working with a "Authorization Error". This is really strange because if I try the very same URL in the explorer and I enter the logon data, I have no problem.
Do you have any experience with this? I mean, is it possible to avoid installing web dispatcher?
Thanks and kind regards,
Encinas.Hi David,
the message server does only a redirect and some XI applications (JAVA and ABAP side) cannot handle the redirect URL.
Therefore in the XI environment you have to use a "real" dispatcher (keeping the session and forwarding the session, instead of redirect) - for example you can use the SAP WebDispatcher here.
Best regards,
Silvia -
Changing message server port for ABAP+Java Instance
Hi,
We had change our message server port for the Java instance from 3607 to 3667.
We did this using the j2ee config tool. We also verified this information through the console config.
But when we look into system info URL using the URL as shown below, we still that the old message server port is being used. We have recycled the instance couple of times , but does not seem to help.
http://dfudsbw1.dfna.corp.dom:50700/sap/monitoring/SystemInfo
Any ideas where else we have to change the port no. for the message serverHi guys,
I solved this on my own with documentation help from SAP.
I had to change the port no. in the Global dispatcher and Global server area as well.
Please see details from SAP below.
"Message Server: Changing Ports/Hosts shows which areas need to be adjusted if
the port or host of the message server changes. Ports are, of course, changed in the
instance profile of the Central Services instance. In the example, the port 3677 and
the HTTP port 8177 have been set, and the new host is called twdfxxx. You need to
use the Config Tool to set these values. For each instance, you need to maintain the
corresponding values for the Message server host and Message server port on the
Message Server and Bootstrap tab page. The connection details for dispatchers or
servers to the message server are maintained in the Cluster Manager. As shown in the
figure, the ms.host and ms.port are maintained, respectively, in the Cluster Manager
with Global Dispatcher and the Global Server. After you have maintained all of the
parameters, you can start the instances." -
JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address
JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address
I have installed the Sun ONE Messaging server 6.0 as part of an evaluation of the Java Enterprise System. This was installed along with Directory Server 5.2 and Identity Server 6.1. During the installation I created a top level organization (o=internet) knowing that I would want to create multiple email domains within it and a default domain. After the installation was complete I used the User Management Utility (/opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin) to create some users within the default domain. I provided each user with a primary email address ([email protected]) and an alternate email address (mailAleternateAddress = [email protected]).
In testing the system I find that the Messaging Server will not accept messages sent to the alternate email address whether sent from the same server (via Messenger Express) or from an external server. It returns the error message: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias.
In attempting to trouble shoot this problem I have watched the Directory Server's access log when such an email is sent. It shows a query using [email protected] even though the email message was sent to [email protected] In any event the DS finds the user, but the Messaging server rejects the message.
[date_time] conn=120 op=11 msgId=12 - SRCH base="o=domain.com,o=internet" scope=2 filter="(mail=[email protected])" attrs="preferredLanguage mail mailEq
uivalentAddress"
[date_time] conn=120 op=11 msgId=12 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1 etime=0
[date_time] conn=120 op=12 msgId=13 - SRCH base="o=internet" scope=2 filter="(&(objectClass=sunManagedOrganization)(|(associatedDomain=host.domain.com)(sunPreferredDomain=host.domain.com)))" attrs=ALL
[date_time] conn=120 op=12 msgId=13 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=0 etime=0
Any suggestions to eliminate this problem would be appreciated.Both the primary and alternate email addresses are the same as the domain of the user.
Here is what I want to do. Email is sent to a primary email server (not this machine). Mail for some users stays on that server to be read and mail for other users is moved to a geographically separate server (the one in question) by specifying that the mail be forwarded to the specific host: [email protected] > [email protected]
On this second server I want to host two (or more) independent email domains. I do not want one of the domains to be a subdomain of the other. So during the installation I used o=internet as the root suffix and then used a different default domain (representing one of the registered internet domains). After installation I used the commadmin tool to create a second domain so now I have what looks something like this:
o=internet,
__ou=People
__ou=Groups
__o=domain1
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
__o=domain2
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
I then created some users under domain1 and some under domain2 so one user's dn is:
uid=user, ou=people, o= domain1.com, o=internet.
Mail sent locally to user@ domain1.com gets delivered correctly, but sending to [email protected] does not.
host2.domain1.com is the fully qualified domain name of the server. -
SunONE / SunJES Messaging server
Hi,
Just a general question regarding the SunONE / SunJES messaging server.
We've got a HA-clustered messaging/messagestore environment
From experience we know that on the message store, when you edit the {instanceroot}/imta/config/ims-ms_option file, it becomes active after about 15 minutes when the ims_master proces restarts itself. Any changes in number of threads can be easily spotted with prstat so therefore we know when it restarts it uses the new config.
Now comes the question.
When I would make any changes to the {instanceroot}/imta/config/imta.cnf file
Does the tcp_smtp_server proces restart itself using the new config or does it keep on using the old 'current' configuration'
Looking @ the proceslist I do notice that the processes restart because the STIME keep changing :)
So just wondering does anybody know this So I do not have to schedule (unnessecary) outage for a restart to make the changes active.
-Martin
The versions we're using are :
=======
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 2.02 (built Oct 21 2004)
libimta.so 5.2 HotFix 2.02 (built 13:42:55, Oct 21 2004)
SunOS goud 5.8 Generic_117350-20 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880
=======
and the other cluster.
=======
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2 (built Dec 2 2004)
libimta.so 6.2 (built 00:34:23, Dec 2 2004)
SunOS chroom 5.9 Generic_118558-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V890
=======
The two different versions are there, 'cause we're currently in a migration stage SunONE 5.2 to SunJESAll of the MTA processes are "short lived", and get periodically restarted.
ims-ms is restarted by the job_controller. You can "refresh" these manually, without users even nopticing.
tcp_smtp_server processes are owned by the dispatcher process. They live for a time, or a maximum number of messages, and are started as needed. You can refresh them manually, too, with no user impact.
to refresh the processes that are owned by the job_controller, give:
imsimta restart job_controller
for the ones owned by the dispatcher
imsimta restart dispatcher
None of the processes is designed to read configuration at any time other than startup, so if you change the configuration, first you need to "compile" that configuration:
imsimta cnbuild
and then you can either wait for the restart, or give one of the commands I put above.
For messaging 5.x, you need to freeze the HA cluster before restartring, as the restart will trigger a failover. For JES messaging 6, the HA agents are much more sophisticated, and will understand what you're doing. -
Messaging Server and Calendar Server Mount points for SAN
Hi! Jay,
We are planning to configure "JES 05Q4" Messaging and Calendar Servers on 2 v490 Servers running Solaris 9.0, Sun Cluster, Sun Volume Manager and UFS. The Servers will be connected to the SAN (EMC Symmetrix) for storage.
I have the following questions:
1. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Messaging Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
- /opt/SUNWmsgsr
- /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr
- Sun Cluster (Global Devices)
Are there any other mount points that needs to be on SAN for Messaging to be configured on Sun Cluster?
2. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Calendar Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
- /opt/SUNWics5
- /var/opt/SUNWics5
- /etc/opt/SUNWics5
3. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Web Server (v 6.0) for Delegated Admin 1.2?
- /opt/ES60 (Planned location for Web Server)
Delegated Admin will be installed under /opt/ES60/ida12
Directory server will be on its own cluster. Are there any other storage needs to be considered?
Also, Is there a good document that walks through step-by-step on how to install Messaging, Calendar and Web Server on 2 node Sun Cluster.
The installation document doesn't do a good job or atleast I am seeing a lot of gaps.
ThanksHi,
There are basically two choices..
a) Have local binaries in cluster nodes (e.g 2 nodes) ... which means there will be two sets of binaries, one on each node in your case.
Then when you configure the software ..you will have to point the data directory to a cluster filesystem which may not be neccasarily global. But this filsystem should be mountable on both nodes.
The advantage of this method is that ... during patching and similar system maintenance activities....the downtime is minimum...
The disadvantage is that you have to maintain two sets of binaries ..i.e patch twice.
The suggested filesystems can be e.g.
/opt for local binaries
/SJE/SUNWmsgr for data (used during configure option)
This will mean installing the binaries twice...
b) Having a single copy of binaries on clustered filesystem....
This was the norm in iMS5.2 era ...and Sun would recommend this...though I have seen type a) also for iMs 5.2
This means there should no configuration files in local fs. Everything related to iPlanet on clustered filesystem.
I have not come accross type b) post SUNONE i.e 6.x .....it seems 6.x has to keep some files on the local filesystem anyway..so b) is either not possible or needs some special configuration
so may be you should try a) ...
The Sequence would be ..
After the cluster framework is ready:
1) Insall the binaries on both side
2 ) Install agent on one side
3) switch the filesytem resource on any node
4) Configure the software with the clustered FS
5) Switch the filesystem resource on the other node and useconfig of first node.

Mutiple instance for messaging server

Can I set up mutiple instance of messaging server in
one physical server ? The purpose is to separate
domain to use difference resource, configuration. Now
we use JES verion 6.While I don't know if it supported(I think it wasn't but we needed to make it work while JES is still in transition about HA strategy), I did an installation of 3 JES2004Q2 messaging instances on 3 different hosts that were all in the same Veritas Cluster. With this configuration, we were able to have any messaging instance run on any host in the cluster (and could shift them so all 3 instances were running on a single host without problem, which we did several times)
Each host had a SAN partition mounted as
/usr/iplanet-$host
such as
/usr/iplanet-host1
/usr/iplanet-host2
these partitions were able to be moved between hosts as needed by the cluster software.
On each host, I made sure it had the SAN mount in place, then installed messaging as:
/usr/iplanet-$host/msg61
(instead of /opt/SUNWmsgsrv)
and when I ran /usr/iplanet-$host/msg61/sbin/configure
I said that the data directory should be:
/usr/iplanet-$host/msg61/msg-$host
I installed the admin server as:
/usr/iplanet-$host/admin5
On each of the messaging instances, I ran the ha_ipconfig script to lock down the IP address that the server processes bound to (and also had to lock down the ens daemon using a separate configutil variable, it still listened on the wildcard address).
When I was configuring the admin servers, I made each instance's run on a seperate port number so I didn't need to worry about locking down the IP. We also had to make a slightly customized version of the VCS agent that Sun supplies to work with the model we decided on.
There are still some issues, such as with performing patches. To patch an instance, you would need to make sure it is running on the host that it was originally installed on. If you only have a single host, I don't think the technique I used would work for you (unless you are able to use Solaris 10 beta and the zones functionality, and I am not sure if the JES packages play well with it yet) -

please help me in resolving this issue and points will be awarded for sure
BalaHi,
This JCO Exception caused by network problems, connection breakdowns, gateway problems, unavailability of the remote SAP system, etc.
What you can do is: Get the host of the SAP System from dev_jrfc.trc or the JRFC trace; ping the SAP system from command line; check routers, gateways, SAP systems
If an error has occurred on a lower communication layer, for example an RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION or RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE exception, have a look at the dev_jrfc.trc files. These files are written by JRFC and can be found in the directories j2ee/cluster/server* of the J2EE Application Server Installation.

BW Publishing using SAP message server
SAP authentication is configured using a message server on a logon group. The authentication works fine for the logon process; however, there is an issue publishing documents using BW publishing feature. During the publishing process the follow error is displayed "An error occurred while saving and/or publishing. The return code 99 was from the server. Error while communicating with Crystal Enterprise; check SAP Gateway."
In addition, the BW publishing service is working fine by connecting to an application server instead of a message server.
Has anyone used the message server/logon group in the BW publishing process successfully?Initially, in the entitlement systems tab of the SAP authentication in the CMC, a message server and logon group were used for setting up the SAP authentication, but not the application server and system number.
The BW Publication configuration was exactly configured as per the process described in your book.
Yes, we could save reports.
Yes, we could import roles
Yes, necessary rights were assigned
In the BW source parameters, in the parameter, Application server, the message server name (FQDN) was entered and other parameters were LOGON group and system number.
The environment is a Linux Red Hat 5, Production cluster with 3 BOE servers, SAP message server port is set to3600, SAP gateway port is 3300and connectivity from BOE server verified on both 3600 and 3300 ports.
