Messed up Dock.app badly.

Ok, soo I was getting new images from LeopardDocks.com and I pretty much messed up my Dock.app. I deleted some stuff I wasnt supposed to and so on. I wish I had a time machine backed up. Any way I can just re-download the Dock.app straight up and start over clean?

BassMastaMike,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Pacifist 2.5.1 is a shareware application that opens Mac OS X .pkg package files, .dmg disk images, and .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, and .xar file archives and allows you to extract individual files and folders out of them...
It has been upgraded for Leopard.

  • Dock.app Crashes on Yosemite

    After an upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite, my system reports that the Dock.app is crashing.  These are the issues;
Desktop Background is black and will not update via System Preferences
Screen Saver does not launch and fails to use "Hot Corners"
Spaces are not available (hot keys do not work)
Console log is actively reporting crashes by dock.app
Same thing happens when logging into another account on same MacBook

Since I upgraded to Yosemite yesterday I had the exact same problem that you and BenjaminMD have.
I tried everything I saw on internet but nothing worked for me (create a new user, deleting files and apps, repair disk permissions, repair disk, trying to re-install Mountain Lion by pressing Cmd+R when booting etc) ... Anyway, I managed to make it work by doing this :
    - open a new finder (by clicking on a finder on your desktop or cmd+T on your desktop (finder should be the default "selected" app)
    - go to Applications folder and launch the App Store
    - download Yosemite from there
    - re-install Yosemite
Hope that helps you with your issue

  • Dock.app icon appears in dock!?

Well, I tried customizing my dock with a 3rd party app, but after applying the changes, I noticed that a new icon appeared in my dock - the icon for Dock.app. When I try quitting the app, it has a similar effect to the terminal command "killall Dock" - the dock quits, relaunches, and the icon is still there.
    http://i40.tinypic.com/mx20qw.png
    http://oi42.tinypic.com/v46mn4.jpg
Since then I've tried numerous things:
    1) Deleting the com.apple.dock.plist files.
    2) Uninstalling and restoring the settings in the third party app.
    3) "killall Dock" numerous times.
I've Googled this matter, but obviously, it has been to no avail.
So, my question, of course, is: HOW THE **** DO I GET THE ******* THING OUT OF THERE!
I have done a Time Machine backup, and am contemplating a reinstall, but does time machine keep system preferences as well?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Try this: defaults write /Path_To/Dock.app/Contents/Info LSUIElement 1

  • /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/MacOS/Dock

typing ps -eo pcpu, pid, user, args |sort -k 1 -r|head -10 i got this process /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/MacOS/Dock 100%. it was after installing photoshop cs5 i guess... the problem is that the battery is lasting no longer then 3 hours... and the cooler is always on

If you run Parallels, there is a conflict with 10.6.8.  One of the symptoms is the dock at 100%.
The cure is update to the latest Parallels.

  • How to restore original dock.app?

    Hi,
I downladed DockMod to change the color of my dock, and it patched the dock.app, but made a backup of the original dock.  However, I'm not sure how to go about replacing the new dock.app with the backup, because the dock is always running...

You do realise that DockMod is only in a beta form for Mavericks any a lot of it's features do not work under OSX 10.9 by DockMod's own admission? Also read what they say in their own FAQ section under 'Is It Sate'.
DockMod injects itself into the dock process and modifies the actual code in the program. Since the dock application is an integral part of your system, there is always the risk that unforeseen bugs in DockMod can cause the dock process to crash, therefore causing extreme system instability. DockMod has been through a rather rigorous beta-testing process, but there is always the chance that there are things that have been missed, or variables from different systems that have not been tested. Therefore, we HIGHLY recommend that you familiarize yourself with a few basic recovery routines:
Make a backup of your dock application (DockMod makes a backup, but you should make your own).
Learn keyboard shortcuts to navigate your computer and open applications (you can open almost any app from the spotlight search bar).
Do a practice run of restoring your dock without using the dock to navigate (harder than it sounds).
It should never be necessary to need to reinstall OS X. At most, you’ll need to recover your dock from a backup.
So play with it at your own risk at least until they have stabilised a version for Mavericks.
    Cheers
    Pete

  • Can't fix black box on dock app with evilwm

I'm currently running evilwm and trying to get a dock app to work with it. Right now I am stuck with a black box on the bottom 1/5th of the screen where the dock application is located.
I have tried the following combinations, to no avail:
    xcompmgr + cairo-dock
    xcompmgr + docky
    cairo-compmgr + docky
I have managed to get the dock to work in each combination, and the visual effects from the composite managers are working, but I can't get any of them to remove this black box.
I tried cairo-dock with both OpenGL and Cairo arguments, and neither worked. I'm confident that my drivers are functional, because I've been running TF2 with no issues.
I suspect that there are some compatibility issues where transparent backgrounds are not supported by evilwm, or some such, but for all my searching I can't find any documentation of this. I also cannot find any instances of people with this same issue.
    Any ideas?

Oh. That is quite a different matter. An MMS message requires a download of data, which cannot be done while on a call. SMS, yes, data no unless your device has WiFi, which the 8330 does not.
Your earlier post stated you could receive a "txt", which is SMS.
    Good luck.

  • Can anyone tell me how i go about downloading the free dock app for the ipod touch?

hi,can anyone tell me how to go about downloading the free dock app for the ipod touch gen 4?

    What "free dock app"?

  • Reinstalled Dock.app from 10.5.0 onto a 10.5.2 system.

    Dear fellow Apple users,
i have by my own fault erased the /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app application.
With some work around i have extracted the Dock.app application from the Install DVD using Pacificst. My Dock works great now but its from the Version 10.5 and the rest of my system is 10.5.2
I then downloaded the manual combo update from the Apple website, but it says that the update is not compatible to the local disk.
I then used Pacifist to find the Dock.app application in the 10.5.2 combo update and extracted it to my local disk. This works as well, but i still do not have the "new" dock with the advanced Stack features. How can i fix this?
    Thank you
    Florian

Unfortunately one of the security updates also changes the build of 10.5.2 beyond that which the combo update can take care of. Your best bet is to bring your machine into service and set it up in Target Disk Mode with another Mac running the same build of 10.5.2. In the future always backup your data*:

  • Car Mode / Dock App

Forgive me if this has already been covered.
when I had my N8 i loved the car Mode app, i recently noticed a possible car mode for the lumia series
    but
is it only available when connected to the new nokia car charger the cr-200? i imagine that the app is already in the phone and access is only granted with the nfc tag on the holder.
is this function actually already available - will be available widely soon - or is it stupidly going to be restricted to access via official nokia car chargers???

NFC tag does not only contain web adress or instruction set for phone behavior. It is realistic to conceivethat it can also hold certain amount of data, including exclusive small app to transfer/install to the phone like the dock app here. The Nokia charging stand has a dedicated iddle screen app.I maybe mistaking here but for sure those accessories are not limitted physically to hold ``out of standard memory size`` nfc informations like the stickers or keychain style tag we see, or those feature app's are built in the newly updated ``nokia accessories`` settings of the phone.Yes My self is still having a N8 (car app installed) and my wife a lumia 920 and whish that the car ``dock app`will become an available stand alone app for every one. Nokia being out of phones OS may as well try to atract more customers to their other branded accesories with exclusive inovative content. We will see what futur hold...

  • Nothing in the dock app's package contents.

When I go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app there is nothing in the package contents. I accidentally deleted the folders somehow. Now I can't change my dock preferences at all (the dock option doesn't even show up under system preferences) and the finder and trash icons are invisible. What do I do? I can't system reinstall because I don't have the installation disc anymore. I've tried making new accounts and the dock is broken on them too. I think if someone gave me a zip file of the folders in dock.app it might help?
(btw already tried deleting plist a million times so don't suggest that please)

    Get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then extract/install what you need from your Install Disc.

  • Finder constantly crashes at startup and dock apps dont start

So everything was running quite well yesterday when apart from running chrome, notes, and vuse, i tried to resumed my vmfusion session and then it suddenly disappeared and then the machine started beachballing which was followed by a finder crash which left me with just my desktop image on the screen and nothing else. After a hard restart, the desktop came back but without any of the icons normally on the desktop and when i wanted to open up an app from the dock, the icon disappeared although the name (for example system preferences) remained. all the functionalities like spotlight and wifi at the top get highlighted but dont work, and then finder crashes again to just show the desktop image and nothing else.
This has happened over and over, no matter if I started it in safe mode, repaired permissions, or even reinstalled snow leopard. I don't know what else I can do since it wont even let me start or open any apps or folders. I feel it was a problem with vmfusion messing up with the kernel but am not certain.
    any help is highly appreciated

Boot with the SL install disk, reinstall the OS, repair permissions, and restart.

  • Application moved error and question marks for dock app icons - related?

i am reposting this in the Mac Pro forum in addition to the Mountain Lion forum as i have been posting various issues on the mac pro here and i have gotten great help in solving them. also i am hoping to put a finishing touch on my computer setup after having done a FRESH INSTALL of the OS on both my computers with a manual migration of data (no Library items) so as to try and resolve old issues. i hope the experts on the list do not mind this posting and/or can offer advice on this specific issue.
i am getting the attached error this morning on my MacBookPro (Mountain Lion) and have gotten it before on my Mac Pro (Lion). i have had to do a fresh install of the OS and a manual migration of my data (no Library settings etc) due to slightly similar issues.
does anyone know what this errror is saying has happened?
i /did/ have an additional internal hard drive on the MAC PRO that Spotlight was indexing and which i had to take off of the Spotlight indexing functionality but this does not explain in any way (since there are no additional HD's on my macbookpro) why it just happened this morning on the macbookpro.
is this related to an issue where there may be QUESTION MARKS (instead of an app icon) in the dock in some of my other software?? i have one of these on my MBP and one on my MacPro even after the fresh install.
    TIA

The Dock stores Aliases to the actual Applications. When you get a question Mark, it is caused by a Bad Link. The Application may have changed versions, moved, or been deleted. There is nothing especially magical about this. You can remove a Bad Link by dragging the link off the Dock, or add a proper link by dragging the Application Icon onto the correct area of the Dock.
OS X Mountain Lion: Customize the Dock
Apple-installed Applications need to remain in the Applications folder so that they remain protected and can be updated properly. The Installer will attempt to add links that point to the current Applications in the Applications folder, but if you have a pre-existing Bad Alias your bad Alias will not be Trashed. This may give you either the "moved..." message, or the Question Mark Icon in the Dock, or a grayed-out Icon with a "prohibited sign" if you have added things not appropriate for this version of Mac OS X.

  • Repeatedly getting question marks on my dock apps...

I'm not moving or deleting anything, but a bunch of my dock's apps keep getting question marks on 'em and I have to go find the app and make a new shortcut. This happens on both our MacBook (OS 10.5.6) and our old G4 running OS 10.4.11. Each computer just has one user account set up.
This is slowly driving us crazy. Help!!?? I've searched and search on the support pages and can't find anything on this except stuff that says I must have deleted the apps, etc.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

    Howdy Ferd II,
Nope, not using anything to modify dock...and not using any non-apple maintenance or utilities. Not aware of any cache cleaning utilities either. I'm not savvy enough to have set up any of that.
The apps are usually MS Office apps and Adobe apps (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat). My Quicken app has done it too. Oh, and my Canon ImageBrowser. Those are all the apps I use the most, so pretty much everything.
Except, iTunes has never done it...I use that a lot. And Safari....Can't remember if Safari has ever done it.
All of the above is referring to the laptop, but the desktop computer is pretty bare bones, too. No mods other than basic system with a few apps installed. We mostly use Safari, an older Photoshop, and MS office on it. Same kind of behavior. Never with iTunes, though!
When I got the laptop a year ago, I thought I'd not have this issue that I'd been dealing with on the desktop machine. Then when it started happening on the laptop, I figured there'd be other people chiming in that this happens to THEM too, but so far none of that......! So it is a puzzlement.

  • Help! System appears "reset". dock, apps and desktop as if a new mac

After a restart my Powerbook appears to be reset: default dock icons, default settings (as when you first buy a mac) . If i open mail.app it acts like it has not been openeed before and asks me to enter settings.... same with all other apps. I am not aware that i renamed the home folder. As far as i can tell all data is still on the HD.
Please help! I have 5 mail accounts in mail and cannot work without access to them and the old emails.
    Thanks!

  • Different Dock apps in different Spaces

    OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion:
Is it possible to have the Dock show a different set of apps based on which Space is active?
    thanks

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to do that, or at least in my testing I can't make that happen.
