Messed up fonts

Just curious, anyone else have fonts that look like this screenshot?
http://neotuli.net/img/screenshots/scre … 788837.png
Notice how some of them are blurred, others are just funky. Highlighting them or moving the cursor over stuff can make it appear correctly again. I can't quite correlate it happening with anything in particular, although after a suspend/resume cycle crossed my mind.
Any ideas/anyone seen something like this before?

Nvidia card? If yes, you're not the only one: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthr … ?p=2135024
Effed up VRAM is my guess. I've had some stuff like this and far worse stuff, but I *know* my graphic card is broken, it makes a crazy noise among others, and I'm just waiting for it to die. In your case it might be that the graphic card state is not properly restored after resuming. Or that in general the driver is doing something funky, considering that guy at nvnews is having the same problem.

  • Multiple Thread of a xml publisher report - messed up fonts in the PDF out

    We are running 60000 invoices at a given time. In order to get the job done faster, the xml publisher report is set up to run mulitple threads. Each thread running unique set of invoices.
    I am seeing this issue, randomly.
    The pdf output of the invoice is having the fonts messed up. font 10 shows up as 14 and the invoice looks very bad.
    When i rerun the same set of invoices it looks absolutely normal.
    Also if I retrieve the xml output of the bad pdf and view it through the xmlpub desktop, it looks perfectly fine.
    Two times we saw this issue
    PRODUCTION
    - when i run 8 threads, i saw this issue in one of the thread and affected one invoice. (Production- 1 concurrent processing node+ 5 OPP processes and 5 threads + MEMORY is J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx3072m )
    TEST INSTANCE
    - when i ran with 16 threads, one of the thread running xml pub report affected all the invoices (UAT environment-1 concurrent processing node+ 7 OPP processes and 1 threads + MEMORY is J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx3072m )
    Looks like it is happening when running multiple threads.
    The formatting command or information is getting lost somewhere and the report is all messed up.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    SJ

    Really appreciate your response. Can you pls give little more details.
    1] Are there any standard API's which I can use to submit XML publisher report from the JSP pages
    2]Is there any sample code snippet for any of the options that I can refer to..or pls let me know the API's, I will check on them

  • Presenter 8 - Appearance tab - messes up fonts on slides

    When I try to change fonts in the Appearance tab for quiz questions and answers and apply to all, it messes up many of the questions and answers on the slides.  On many of the slides, the words overlap and the questions are off the slide.  It's just on some of the slides.  And even though I select 'apply to all' it doesn't.

    Mr Sahu, thank you for your response.   After creating the quiz, I attempted to change the font and sizes.  I thought I was supposed to create the quiz/presentation before I used the Appearance Tab.  Maybe I misunderstood the directions.
    I ended up manually changing the fonts on each page throughout the presentation, so my screenshots today are not as messed up as they were yesterday when I attempted to change fonts and sizes of fonts in the Appearance tab.
    But, for instance, today  if I only try to change the font to Questions to Arial using the Appearance Tab, below is what is happening.  As you can see below,  set the Question font and nothing else, and applied it to all quizzes (don’t I have to apply it to all quizzes for it to be applied to all slides?).  Then also below is the before and after for one of the slides below.  It messes with the answers and yesterday as I tried to adjust the size and font for questions and answers, some of the questions fonts ended up much bigger than what I put in the Appearance Tab and were off the top of the slide, and the answers were overlapping and really messed up throughout the quiz.
    I’m sure I’m just doing something wrong.  Thanks for your help!

    PLease Help.I got iLife 09 pre installed in my new Macbook so I dont knw where to reinstall it from or to get it fixed or serviced.PLease help.

    Its possible that this is a fonts issue rather than an iWeb one.
    However, if you think you need to troubleshoot iWeb look under "Fix iWeb" here.....

    The same page will give you an idea of how to go about reinstalling and iLife will be on the DVD you got with your Mac.

  • Messed up font rendering in Acrobat 8 after pdf minor edit

    I was given a pdf to make a minor spelling edit which involved opening the InDesign original, correcting the placed(as a graphic)pdf page (using advanced editing/text touch up tool).
    This always worked fine in Acrobat 7.
    I then updated in the Indd file and output to a new pdf document.
    Only now the pdf text component had substituted characters which garbled it.
    I went back into >advanced/preflight/options/browse internal structure of doc fonts.< and found the font causing problems and made sure it was loaded on the system- but didn't help. My sense is this is a font conflict problem. In the end I rebuilt the file in Illustator, then saved a new pdf which solved the problem. Could I have resolved this directly from Acrobat/
    Thanks for any insights.

  • Help! Messed up font!

    Hello,
    I did my resume in Pages '09 (4.0.3) using Modern Resume template few weeks ago.
    Today I opened it to make some minor changes and realized that the main font is ALL screwed up. The template itself is the same way, so it must be on a system level. Font missing or something like that...
    Could someone please tell me how to fix this or at least tell me what font this is?
    Argh, i suck at word processing but fortunately i was smart enough to save it as .pdf
    Here is the screenshot
    http://tinyurl.com/ybegwdl
    thanks
    -i

    The original font was Arial, which should still be available and the font that appears in your image is still Arial/Helvetica.
    The problem appears to be a kerning/tracking problem, which indicates a font (probably of the same name) substitution.
    Open up *Font Book* and see what fonts are opened and see if you have more than one Arial.
    Are you by any chance using some other font manager or opening fonts from a location no longer available?

  • [SOLVED] Messed up font on clean install

    I have installed Arch 02.2013 on my old Pentium 3 computer. The installation went well, but on first boot the characters turned all funky (in GRUB it's still fine).
    I took a picture of my screen (clicky):
    Does anybody have any idea what's going on? I can debug using the CD, on which the font looks fine.
    Last edited by Vijfhoek (2013-02-18 20:43:01)

    Nothing at the moment. I just tried Lat2-Terminal16 (or something like that), and it looks just as weird, a bit less bold though (so somewhat more readable).
    My locale is en_US.UTF-8. Also, I have no swap partition at the moment (forgot it), and was planning on using GParted with some WM to add one, but that shouldn't be related.
    EDIT: Here's the output of lcpci, might it be useful: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31413453/IMG_20 … 175441.jpg
    EDIT2: With the Arch CD and chroot I managed to get Xorg to run, couldn't be bothered to install a less primitive window manager. Anyway, it runs just fine on my 1680x1050 display (typing this from it), but the TTYs still looks garbled. I am going to try another display mode now.
    EDIT3: I plugged in an AGP Graphics Card (NVIDIA GeForce MX 400, have some laughs ) and it works fine now.

  • Safari fonts messed up

    My sister's computer has really messed up fonts in Safari. It's sort of looks like the marker felt font. And the preferences are set to normal fonts but this font still appears.
    -Thanks

    . It's sort of looks like the marker felt font. And the preferences are set to normal fonts but this font still appears.
    The preferences do not override the fonts specified by the code of the pages you view. You need to get rid of the marker felt font, which is probably junk and substituting for the real helvetica or times or whatever the page code is requesting.

  • Evince doesn't print fonts

    Evince can view pdf files fine, but when I print from it, the document prints entirely in a fixed width courier like font (very ugly).  xpdf will print the same pdf's just fine, but I'd rather be able to just use evince as it has a much nicer UI.  Any ideas how to get evince to print with the correct fonts?

    I've had problems with Evince since it's release. It doesn't draw some lines correctly in PDF files and also seems to mess up fonts and such. Good luck.

  • ClearType makes fonts in Dreamweaver code view hard to read

    I'm using Dreamweaver 8.0.2 with Windows Vista Business. As
    you know, Vista has a feature called "ClearType," which is supposed
    to help smooth out the on-screen fonts. It normally does do this,
    but for some reason, in Dreamweaver code view, some of the edges of
    fonts are cut off, making it very difficult to read at times. See
    pic here:
    http://www.klife.com/fontscutoff.jpg
    I've tried changing the display fonts within Dreamweaver
    (from Courier New to Arial, etc.), but it doesn't help. Actually,
    Arial is worse. But here's what fixes it: turning off ClearType. I
    haven't noticed ClearType messing any fonts up in programs except
    for Dreamweaver. Why is DW doing this and is there anything I can
    do to get ClearType to work with it?

    You might want to try Clear Type Tuner. It is a Microsoft
    tool to let you
    adjust your clear type settings to your liking. It was
    written for XP. I'm
    not sure if they have a Vista version out yet, but the XP
    version might
    work.

    Here is an online version, which I have not tried.

  • Why can I no longer specify my preferred font for text which has a link attached to it?

    I use TBird to send old school, professional looking business letters with logo image header and footers. Recently, I am unable to apply my preferred font to the website link part of my footer. This seems to have become an issue after one of the more recent upgrades of TBird. Its frustrating as I feel good graphic design requires uniformity in font style/type and size. This seems no longer possible. Now when I attach a hyperlink to my website address it changes my preferred font to something that looks like Arial and locks both font and size. It looks crappy.

    <blockquote>
    The only way I know its 12 pt. is that I copy into Word and check the font size there.
    </blockquote>
    Huge error number one, and probably cause of your problem in the first place.
    <blockquote>
    I would really like to see TBird use point size for fonts.
    </blockquote>
    Thunderbird uses HTML, HTML is expressed in pixels.
    <blockquote>
    In terms of not having Papyrus on you Linux box, I suppose that's you're choice.
    </blockquote>
    Licensing actually, not choice. The font is licensed and distributed by Microsoft. See http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=1113 for a list of products your recipient can install to get the font.
    <blockquote>
    In my outgoing email subject line I always specify that my reply is best viewed in HTML, full screen.
    </blockquote>
    HTML is the default for almost all mail so that does appear to be overkill. Full screen. Personally I would be just as likely to not read mail that required full screen. Mail gets about half a screen here.
    <blockquote>
    Most systems will automatically substitute fonts for ones not on that system, at least in Apple and PC systems. </blockquote>
    Papurus actually has a higher chance of being present on a Mac system than a windows one as Apple have distributed it with OSX since 2003.
    <blockquote>
    Anyway all of that is a little off topic. I wanted help with why TBird intermittently messes with font size and style when I cut and pasting email responses to people.
    </blockquote>
    As I said at the beginning. Do not use word. Word first converts to RTF then to HTML (All done internally) The resulting HTML is extremely complex and to put it bluntly pastes as a whole page from which Thunderbird must extract only the relevant parts. (inside the body tag) The end result is the program ends up confused about what goes where.
    <blockquote>
    And, if there is some reason why sometimes, again I stress sometimes, it will not let me use the font of my choice for text that has a hyperlink attached to it.
    </blockquote>
    If your pasting from Word the most obvious thing will be that the hyperlinked text will have it's own font tags another reason I suggest you use the program your in.
    * If you want it on paper use a word processor. It is what they are designed for
    * If you want it in email use the email program to actually write your mail.
    * If you want to guarantee the look on delivery send PDF attachments.

  • Safari 3 Update Leads to Tears and Bad Font

    what a day.
    so i've updated my mac os x version 10.4.11, which included the new safari 3 update.
    until i decided to do this, i would use safari and safari only because firefox and netscape had very hard to read fonts in them (also Very slow!!-on this machine), of which i've found you cannot change through preferences. well, the update to safari also changed its fonts to match the ones in firefox and netscape. it hurts my eyes/head to read and is extremely annoying. i decided to throw away safari, in hopes of downloading the old one, only to find that this isn't possible after you've completed the 10.4.11 update (see this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1241335&tstart=0 ).
    sounds like it's going to be a matter of finding my disc before i can have safari again (i'm in the process of moving to a new home). although, i imagine that even after reloading safari i will still have this font issue. any ideas to why all my browsers have the same messed up font? it's almost like there is a gap within each individual letter. see here: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee41/Lulu_Lagoon/Picture8.png
    my @ symbols do not show up in this font either.

  • Mail Font formatting of headers goes crazy, Solution?

    Shame on me for messing with fonts, but here we go.
    After possibly deleting a "standard" font while installing new fonts, most of my Apple-made apps changed fonts. While most are back to normal, Mail is not.
    Screenshot:
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Wiping all user fonts, and replacing both system font folders with known good copies.
    - Disabled all plugins and bundles.
    - On the same computer, swtiched to a "test" account which is a completely defaulted new user account and was created before this problem. Mail worked fine with new account and imported com.apple.mail.
    - Changing Mail font settings in Preferences; this problem is not an option to fix.
    - Replaced Mail itself with a copy from another Mac.
    - Trashed com.apple.mail (after backing it up)
    - Ported com.apple.mail to another Mac with Mail and worked fine.
    So my guess is its an issue at the user level. How do you reset the program's fonts, other than the ones in Preferences? What about layout? What hidden folder did I miss?
    Thanks!

    Powerbook G4/Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    The affected font is probably Helvetica. Take a look at the following article:
    Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther
    Make sure first that the required fonts are installed in the right places and enabled in Font Book. You may also use Font Book to validate fonts and resolve duplicates. Also, get rid of Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic if you have any of those fonts installed.
    A simple troubleshooting procedure for this kind of problems is to start up in Safe Mode — see Undoing Font Book.

  • Fonts in lots of pages look "empty", but after reinstal it shows right

    After starting Mozilla FireFox application I try to open pages.
    Some of those pages show messed up fonts (Letters looks empty with border).
    After reinstalling default system font "Tahoma" into Windows Fonts directory and refreshing page they looks correctly.
    After restart of computer procedure repeats.

    You can use this extension to see which fonts are used for selected text.

    You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

  • CSS font style in main template. How to remove or change...

    Hi, made a boo boo the other day while messing with my spry menu bar from the main template. I was trying to change the font size on the sub-menu as the drop down had gone off the page. I was fooling around with it and inadvertantly changed/added several styles that were already being used on other pages throughout the site. For instance "style 19" used to be 24 pixels high and not in the main template. (right under spry assets styles.) Now it's there and every page that used this style is now showing VERY LARGE font as I somehow changed it to 113pixels. (type-o that I didn't realize was being saved and changing a style.)
    If that made sense to anyone, what do I do now? Do I go to the main template and change the size to what I know they should be then update all the pages, leaving "redundant tags". Do I delete the style altogeter from the main template?..not sure what that would do.
    and last, once I finally get it right, how do I upload these changes. Putting the main teimplate, css style sheet? Spry menu? all?
    Thanks SO MUCH
    Miserable in D.W. land today!

    Thanks, will be working on it today. That's what I needed to know. It sucks when you don't know what your'e
    doing and you can't speak intelligently to someone who does. So thanks for the layman's answer this time.
    What I can do is actually go back to the page in question, and I can see the "old" style 18 and what the size should be, then see the new one. So I will be able to tell what the old size was. These styles affected are mainly for colored font/names under our caddy girls. Each one might have her name in size 24 pixel font, in a different color depending on the page design. Long story short, is all the fonts that were 18 or 19 are now wrong..  and some other styles have been messed up as well
    Maybe you can help me with this one too? On 3 or 4 font styles I must have been playing with the spry menu bar and adjusting the size not realizing I was in percentage mode and not pixels. By the time I figured it out I had changed 4 styles to 12 and 13 %. So the font is tiny in D.W. Would I just delete these altogether, or change these to what pixel size they should be? Even though it will create a redundant font tag. (which I'm not too concerned about unless I need to be.) Or should I change them to 100%?
    Hope you can make sense of the above. I REALLY appreciate it. Was going to make the font on "really" very big but my days of messing with fonts are over!!!!
    Thanks,
    ken
