Messed up from updating itunes?

I updated my itunes and restored my ipod, &the black and white "do not disconnect" notification will not go away after being plugged in for a very long time. I tried unplugging it regardless, and it won't do anything but tell me to plug it back in, and then once I do, itunes tell me it has detected an ipod in recovery mode, &must be restored before it can be used with intunes. I have restored it like itunes tells me to each time it's plugged back in, but the "do not disconnect" notification still won't go away. Ideas?

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

  • IPOD MESSED UP FROM UPDATE

    Here is my problem
(I have the U2 ipod if that makes any difference)
I just went into itunes and it said they had a new update(2005-09-23)so i decided to do it.So i downloaded the update to my computer. then restarted the computer like it asks. When i brought up the update i pluged in my ipod and it came up then i hit update..after the update and says theirs an error so i close it and now i try to turn it on and whenever i do the apple icon comes up followed by a folder the exclamation point. so i see if the update will fix it maybe so i plug in my ipod and turn it on and the do not disconnect pops up and it is in all old black and white. The O with the \ in the middle is smaller and not in color and the charge icon in the corner has a lightning bolt on the side of it now. When i tried to do the update again only restore comes up this time and when i try to do that it says firmware update failure. disk write error. What the heck do i do now. i also have tried all the things on the support page such as putting the cd that came with it and trying to redownload that.

    Disconnect your iPod.
Right click on "My Computer", select "Manage", Select "Device Manager", Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller", and click on "Disable", click "OK".
Run the Updater software and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it", plug in the iPod and wait, and wait, and wait, it takes awhile because you are running at USB 1.1. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod.
I, and others (on different forums) have found that this does work, at least to get an iPod back to it's functioning state.
Try it out, and report back.

  • Sync device is missing from updated iTunes

  • Quicktime stops me from updating itunes

I am trying to get the new itunes 10, and when i install it, the installer tells me that i have a new version of quicktime installed and that itunes can't install because of the new quicktime. So i tried to uninstall quicktime and it told me "A newer version of Quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed." Any ideas on how to get out of this endless circle?

Usually, that's caused by trouble with the QuickTime.msi. Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

can anyone help with retrieving My Library in Itunes and Itunes store - having updated Itunes and Icloud on 24 September 13, my computer failed and I lost all my files which were eventually backed up to an Emergency Backup.  my computer is now working again and I have down loaded Itunes and transferred all the files from my Emergency Backup.  Non of the music went back into Itunes, so I had to find these files and manually moved them to Itunes.  The music is now in Itunes, but I no longer have the folder named My Library, which I think is the reason my Ipad, ipod no longer sync any additional music I have added to Itunes. Does anyone know how to rectify this please.
    Many thanks.  Crusey

iTunes expects files and folders to be in very specific locations.  When you start iTunes it looks for a file called library.itl which is in the iTunes folder.  It then uses all the references in that file which tell it where all your media files are located to build up the view you normally see.  Probably you moved the library file so iTunes cannot find it and it will make a default one which is empty.  When you plug in your iPod it isn't recognizing the library since it is not the same one to which you synced last.
Simply put, you need to undo all your file moves.  Not as eaily done as stated but since I cannot quite see from here exactly what you spent an hour doing last night it will be up to you.  Did you make a backup before doing all this?

  • Updated iTunes and now can't remove songs from my iPod - please help

I've updated iTunes to version 11.0.0.163 and have an iPod Nano 16gb 5th generation.
In iTunes, I'm no longer able to manually select songs to remove them from my iPod - I can't even see the list of music that's on my iPod. The only option it gives me is to sync, and I don't want to do that. Before I upgraded iTunes, it was easy to move music between my iPod and iTunes, now I can't - what's happened?
My iPod is full so I want to remove some music, not all of it. Any advice? Please help - I'm going round in circles!
    Thanks

Ctrl + B for show Top Menu
    View > Show Sidebar
itunes will now look more like itunes 10.
You can click on your device in the lefthand window as before
You may prefer to use the Music Sync page to select or deselect Playlists, Artists, Albums etc and click apply.
Delete your files is enabled by ticking the Manualy manage music option on the Device Summary page. You may have to scroll down to find it

I updated my iPod and it erased everything i had on it.  How do i retrieve the songs that i bought from the iTunes store?  when i try to download/buy them again they tell me i have already purchased them do i want to buy them again?  I have authorized my computer but none of them are in my music now.

You buy one and only one download.
It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
Certainly you did not update your ipod without making sure that you had transferred anything purchased on the ipod to your computer and included it in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • ITunes update corrupted some of my music files so iTunes can't find the file, nor music I  bought from the iTunes store.

After an iTunes generated update of iTunes, some of my music can't be accesed any more. When I try to play the file, iTunes says it can't find the link. This also happens with music I purchase from the iTunes store, so I've lost all this music; do I have to re-buy the purchased music again? My iTunes program is on my C drive, and the music library is on my D drive. In iTunes, I've set the ripped music to be placed in my D drive. The lost links are on some music files, but not others which do play music. Some compilation music files were split up into individual files, usually without LP art attached. Some album art was placed on wrong albums as well. Music with lost links have a ! mark beside the song name. File info says the link is on my C drive, but I can't find it there. Any ideas on how to get these lost files back. Thanks, Moizy.

    Try this...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Iphone 4 wont sync to itunes anymore. Itunes opens then a message comes up saying I need to restore it. I want to avoid doing this as I've noticed some of my purchases since updating itunes are missing from computer but they are on my phone.

I have reset my phone, put the latest updates on itunes and iphone and thought it might work then, but no luck. I am trying to avoid restoring it as I dont want to loose the data I have purchased that is missing off my itunes since I updated that. I'm not sure how to contact itunes to get my data put back on my itunes on computer. All my purcahsed data from itunes still comes up on my phone as it hasnt been able to sync to the update. DOes anyone know how to contact itunes to have bought data re-put back on. It comes up in my itunes acocount with the date and purchase number but these items are missing from my itunes purcahsed items. Weird?
I am on an imac. Is there anyway I can get around the issue of syncing again or should I just restore once I have contacted itunes about them deleting my paid for items! I feel very ripped off, its like buyoing something from target and having the manager come to your house and retrieve it! lol

I am trying to update ITunes from 10.4 to 10.5 I have tried from both the program, and from a download on Apple's website. Regardless, I get the following error messages: (1) Installation package for iTunes cannot be found. Try installing to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.  I can't find this folder. I have tried to completely unistall iTunes through the Control Panel, but it wouldn't let me: I tried going directly to the files themselves, but cannot uninstall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. System OS: Win XP SP 3.

Set the permissions for Everyone in the folder in which CCPackager created, to "Read/Write" enabled. This is strange since there is only an administrator account on the Mac (and that account already has read/write), but it seems to resolve the issue.

  • Prevent iTunes on second user account from updating iPod

I was unable to find an answer to this question in a search, so I hope someone out there can help.
My wife and I have separate admin user accounts on our Mac. All our music is stored under my user account to which I have granted full access to all users. This allows us to manage our own songs and playlists on our respective iTunes without duplicating music files (she doesn't like metal and I don't like country).
The problem is the use of my iPod; I have it set up to automatically manage selected playlists from my iTunes. Occasionally, however, my wife opens iTunes when my iPod isn't mounted but in the cradle charging, resulting in the iPod being overwritten with the songs and playlists from her iTunes.
I've tried setting up her iTunes to manually manage playlists but this changes the same settings on my iTunes. I want to continue automatically managing my playlists because I have numerous smart playlists in my library.
Is there a way to prevent just one user's account from updating an iPod while the other does so automatically?
    Many thanks,
    B.

iPod agent is now PodPlus, and after installing it (bit of bother, as our entire network was in the process of collapsing at the same time!), I transferred all my songs to my PC. Worked really well. Much appreciated!
I tried to look for the other program, but the page couldn't be found. Thanks anyway!!

    Why does iTunes SUCK??
    1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
    2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!

  • When i updated itunes I lost all my music, I was able to retrieve it from my previous version, but now a artists have all of their songs list under one unknown cd.  How can I seperate these cds with the correct songs included?

When I updated itunes I lost all of my music, I was able to retrieve it from a previous itunes library, but now some artists have all of their songs listed under one "unknown album."  Is there a way to separate these songs back into the correct albums?  Also, is there a way to make songs that have a featured guest just show up with the rest of the album instead of making a whole new spot for it?  Thanks!

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.
