Messed Up Harddrive on Macbook Pro

I was attempting to boot camp my mac for business purposes, and reformatted my original hard drive with windows. I can't install the windows xp because the disk is scratched. How do i reformat back so i can reload my mac os! Cause when i got into disk utility the i cant erase the disk or load mac os on it because it is NTFS!

Try to re-partition your HD using DiskUtility. Don't select the NTFS part but the physical drive in left column.

• External Harddrive and MacBook Pro

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to view my post.
I just recently purchased a new 15" MacBook Pro. I originally had a HP laptop in which I ran iTunes for Windows.
Instead of storing my music on my HP laptop's HD I bought a 320GB external harddrive and had iTunes re-route to the external (i.e. using iTunes Prefs, letting iTunes read from the external).
I opened iTunes on my new MacBook Pro and telling it to read from the external as I did with my HP laptop, but when I tried to import CDs to my library I received an error saying that the "required folder" could not be found. In turn, it won't let me import CDs to the external.
How can I fix this problem? I don't want to store my music on my MacBook Pro.
Thank you again for reading this and taking of your time to help me with my issue. God bless!

• Harddrive for macbook pro

hey guys,
im new to this forum, so if this has already been discussed then please just direct me to the right site to find the clues...
ive currently got an older model of the macbook pro with an 80GB harddrive. the programs i have installed use up a large majority of the harddrive space and as such, im struggling to ensure that i have even 1gb spare. i use external harddrives too, but i was thinking it would be nice to have more space on the internal harddrive.
any thoughts or ideas on costs? range? advantages? disadvantages? installation?
from what ive found so far i can get a 160 GB harddrive installed (with my data and programs etc transferred) for $290 or a 250 Gb harddrive for $370. no idea if this is outrageous...
any feedback will be greatly appreciated
cheers

Depends how handy you are.
You can find instructions on how to replace it at http://www.ifixit.com
You can find replacement drives at http://www.macsales.com - I only mention this lot as you can see some of the possible replacement drives. Apple tend to use Seagate, Hitachi, Fujitsu and possibly Toshiba to my knowledge.
A bare 160gb 5400rpm drive can be had for around $100 or so - US$.
I can't really speak for Aus - I don't know how much drives are. Do a search to see how much you can get the drive for and then work out if install and transfer etc are worth the extra. If you have access to an external drive then backing up and restoring the data from the 80gb drive to the new one is simple.
Hope that helps,
best of luck.

• Looking to replace broken Harddrive in Macbook Pro Retina

Hi All,
I am loking to replace my harddrive in my 15" Macbook Pro cause of disk failure.
Can anyone tell me if this harddrive: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4867/crucial_m4_msata_256gb_solid_state_drive_r eview/index.html
will work if i replace the one in the Retina Pro,
Futhermore, could this harddrive work in my 13" Macbook Air (A1466) ?
- Rasmus

Sorry for the late reply guys, i shiped it in to the local apple-certified repair shop and it came back with a fresh install and with a note that they didn´t find any problems with it. The odd thing is, that now with about a week of ussage the same problems starts to show, i can still boot it up, but it often freezes and locks-up the whole system, the three error-logs i have been abble to get are posted below, hope some of you can see whats wrong from these:

• Messed up hinge on MacBook pro what to do?

Yesterday my MacBook pro just started acting up the lid wouldn't fully close or hold itself up unless it was vertical. There was no damage I know of. Is this covered by AppleCare otherwise one should I do. The computer has been having a few other problems including bad battery life even with a new battery. Also the wifi connection is worse than any of my families computers I will have two bars to their full and one is five years old while mine is ten days from the end of my AppleCare. Also general slowness.

The hinge for sure would be covered. Not sure what the other problems relate to but take it in......the Genius Bar is always helpful at my store.

• Screen messed up after opening MacBook Pro

Hi all,
Occasionaly when I open up my MacBook Pro to resume my session the screen is all garbled up like in the following photo.
The only thing I can do to fix this is power off the laptop by holding the power button and waiting a few sec before restarting it again. After restarting everything works fine.
Has anyone else been having problems like this or know what's causing it?
Thanks in advance
Kris

I would recommend taking that in to a service provider. It may be a software issue but it is likely an issue with the graphics card which will require a main logic board replacement

• Copying G4 Harddrive to Macbook Pro

How do you do it? I was told to start macbook holding down the "T" and then instructions should come up. I'm using a 400 to 800 firewire.
Any ideas??
Many thanks in advance.
Hannah

Connect the old and new Mac's with a Firewire cable then power up the old one while holding down the 'T' key, it will then appear on the new one's Desktop as a Volume. Then run /Utilities/Migration Assistant and select the file types you want to copy across, make sure you do NOT move any System files as they are not compatible.

• Macbook Pro 17-Cannot install Snow Lep. How to solve the error message GUID

When I try to install Snow L., I get the error that my disk did not use the GUID partition table scheme. The install prog says to use the disk utility to change the partition scheme. It further says to select the disk and then the partition tab, and then the volume scheme and then use the option button to change it. Problem is that when I get that far, the option tab is greyed out. There is only one partition. This laptop was factory new January of this year. How do we do this without erasing everything and starting over?
PLEASE email <Edited by Host> if you can tell me (PLEASE) what to do. Lastly, I DO have a TM backup and Fusion is running XP Pro.

Regardless of your current dilemma you need to have a least one complete backup in some form. Disk drives fail - not if, only when.
You should get an external drive with enough capacity to contain a complete backup.
You can make a bootable clone using either:
SuperDuper! which I use. You can find it [here|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html]
or Carbon Copy Cloner which many people also highly recommend which can be found [here|http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html].
SuperDuper! has a free version that will make a bootable clone, and Carbon Copy Cloner is donation ware.
Time Machine is also a good option.
I would start with a bootable clone. All it will cost you is the drive.
With a bootable clone you can boot it and verify that you have a working clone of your system before messing around with the MacBook Pro's internal drive..
I backup everything twice via 2 different methods: Time Machine to a Time Capsule and SuperDuper! to an external drive.
I learned the hard way that all disk drives are subject to failure even backup drives. I was very lucky, the backup device failed immediately after I had restored my wife's data to a new laptop after the laptop's drive failed.
I went to make a new backup of the new laptop and the drive was dead.
Disks are cheap and getting cheaper. If you value your data you need to have backups.

• Password Failure on Macbook Pro

I am attempting to upgrade my harddrive on Macbook Pro. I did the following:
Formated new drive
Booted from Snow Leopard disk
Installed Mac OS (SL)
Migrated all content using migration assistant
Finished the migration
Now I cannot login as my passwod no longer works
Stuck and need the computer tomorrow for a trip. Would be very very grateful for help.

Insert your Mac OS X DVD into your computer then try to start your system. What was the OS on the backup made with, was it Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.6, You should have started your system with Lion recovery (command + R) then format your drive then do the migration. You should try reformatting your hard drive with the Mac OS 10.6 DVD then update your base system to Mac OS X 10.7 then use migration.

• Macbook Pro 2009 cannot install fonts

It's been awhile that my mac [version 10.6.8] keeps failing at install fonts. This is really frustrating because I use Photoshop a lot. So when I click "install" in the font file, it pops out a new window like it's installing it, but then it immediately disappears after only 1s of appearing. And when I checks the fontbook, I can't see the font I want to install.
Does anybody know what is the problem and what can I do ?

• Help!! I attempted to restore my macbook pro to factory settings, but messed up!!!

I dirtied up my harddrive using migration assistant with outdated & not properly functioning software when I purchased my macbook pro retina, so I decided to try to restore it to factory settings. Heres where I will start to look like an idiot: I used the command+R method during startup to get to utilities, and then erased everything there (the hard disk + another mounted drive that came from migration assistant) because I thought I was supposed to. I then tried to startup my computer again but instead of a grey apple logo at the loading screen, there was a flashing question mark. Is this problem fixable if I take it to the apple stor&e? Am I hopeless?

Ok no worries! This is what needs to happen!
You have the flashing question mark which means that there is no operating system on the hard drive. What you need to do is obtain a copy of either lion or mountain lion from another mac. You need to first make a bootable usb drive with lion or mountain lion on it. You can re download mountain lion from the app store or use the current version running on that mac.
See this article.....
http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/08/make-a-bootable-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-installer-from -a-usb-flash-drive/
it is such an easy thing to do it isn't even funny.
You then need to turn off the messed up computer and then insert the usb drive. Hold the OPTION key down while booting up the mac. You will then choose the usb drive from the boot up disks. The you must go to disk utility and format the macintosh or the sub disk 1.
After doing that, close the utilites windows and return to the menu with the option to reinstll the os x operating system. Follow the on screen instructions there and you will be good to go. This whole procces can be done within a couple hours.

• Installed a new harddrive in my macbook pro. cannot connect to hp photosmart all in one printer!!

I, recently, installed a new hard drive on my MacBook Pro Laptop Computer (2007 model).
Now, I cannot print out anything on my HP Photosmart C7180 All-In-One Printer! They don't
seem to be connected, as the printer icon shows up on my computer, and then, immediately, evaporates
into thin air.
How do I connect my HP Printer to my laptop, now that I have a new harddrive installed?

Hello Lady22:
When you received your printer you should have received two insulation disks one is for Windows computers and the other one is for Mac ( Apple Computer) If you have the disks please install Mac disk. Apple computers do search and down load the parcel software so you can do basic printing commands. You need to find the program that is some where in your computer that allows you to hook up Pinters and Devices. Ounce you find this open it up then connect the printer cable to the lap top. The computer program will list HP's printers yuo need to select your printers model number. Then it will down load the drivers for it to run basic commands. Ounce they are download run a test to make sure it is working right. Contact HP's store and asked them to send you a new set of insulation disk. Your old disk may have fine dust film on them. Clean them off pior to inserting them If you use glass cleaner and fine cloth make sure they are dry off before you insert them. If you used them before maybe a speck of dirt blocked out parcel program that caused it not to install correctly . frrw

• Seriously messed up my macbook pro... I think.

Hello!
I purchased a toshiba hybrid HD/SSD (MQ01ABD100H) and 8gb of ram from macsales.com. I purchased this to upgrade my macbook pro from 4gb of memory and 500gb hdd to a hybrid 1tb hd/ssd and 8gb of ram. I received these items in the mail today, and went on their website to install everything correctly. After successfully installing everything into the computer, I turned it on. At first, I was getting the folder with a question mark in it, so I just loaded mavericks off of my flash drive. When I went to boot it off that, it comes up with an error saying there was an error, please wait a few seconds or press a key to continue startup; this is a new error to me so I just continued the startup. A few seconds later, next to the Apple a bunch of black text with some errors and the computer name came up. It then restarted the computer before I could take a picture and white screened . I turned it off and removed the new hard drive and put it in a passport to install the mavericks manually from my iMac. I did that sucessfully, and when I put it in my computer it was doing the same thing. So then I launched it from the recovery drive. I went to install a fresh install, but after about 2 minutes in, it restarts itself and goes back to the selection of time machine back up, fresh install, or disk utility. It's in a never ending loop of this. I then to troubleshoot put in my old drive hoping I could just use that. As soon as I put it in and closed it up and turned it on, it was doing the error and black text with whitescreen. I proceeded to call apple a few minutes ago, hoping they could give me some advice. I then learned by telling them I did it myself, I voided my hardware warranty (how happy I am about this). They gave me some repair places I could go to, but it's not very likely they will take me due to me voiding my warranty. Is there anyone that has had this problem? Or can give me help/advice or anything? I'm going on vacation friday to Hawaii and I need the Macbook for business... This has been a disaster. I have a feeling it's the actual macbook pro, since when I switch the hard drives it's messing up still. If anyone can help me, I appreciate all suggestions or solutions!!!
Thank you!

I can boot it off of the external enclosure; here is what happened.
When I turned it on, after going into the select a boot and selecting the external drive, it went into the white screen with a bunch of black text(i assume errors.)After this error, it automatically restarted itself. I let it run it's course and figured it would whitescreen again, however it did not. It successfully went to my log in screen, but there are major graphic errors with the mouse and the display (shown below.) After successfully logging in, it took about 4-5 minutes to load the desktop successfully (usually takes about 12-20 seconds). Does this help at all?
I really appreciate your help!

• I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and now my MacBook Pro won't start up.

I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and moved the system.kext and two others to my desktop and deleted the originals and now the MacBook Pro won't start up. All I get at start up is the apple icon then a bunch of text shows up part of which says Mac OS version: not yet set. then the apple icon turns into the power icon and tells me to turn off the computer. I've tried reinstalling from the install DVD by holding down option when powering on and selecting the install DVD and it just goes to a white screen with the apple icon and stays like that. I didn't have the disk utility on my Mac before this happened because I deleted it to make room on my computer a while ago so I'm not sure if that's why it won't load the install DVD but anyone who knows the solution to this with out going to get it repaired would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Never mind my dad just found the original install DVD and that worked. Before I was using an install disc that Apple sent me for another issue I was having, but thanks for replying so quickly and trying to help on this Thanksgiving day!!!
