Messed up icons 3GS

I spoke to a nice woman in Apple Support. They apparently have no fix for the messed up icon problem, meaning icons and apps don't match. Has anyone figured out their own fix?

Simply sync with iTunes, go to the Applications tab and un-check all your Apps, the re-sync. This will remove all the downloaded applications from the iPhone. Then disconnect the iPhone and perform a reset. Once reset, re-sync the iPhone with iTunes, go back to the Applications tab and recheck all your Apps, then re-sync again. This will reinstall all your applications and fix the problem.
You will lose all your Applications data in the process, but it will correct the mismatched icons problem.

  • Lost icons 3gs v4.x software

Hi There -- I loaded new software to my 3gs last night...now most icons for apps that I've loaded do not show on the 'desktop'?!? The apps are in the iphone, I can search them & start them. A few apps that were loaded early on still appear on the desktop. I saw instructions about transferring apps from iphone to itunes so I did that step, didn't change the status. I downloaded updates for many apps, sync'd again, still no change in status.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Jeff

If you updated to 4.1 then the Game Center app which was installed may have pushed your existing apps onto a later home screen. See the white dots near the bottom of the home screen? They indicate how many home screens you have. Continue swiping right-to-left and you may discover that all your apps are still there, just pushed to a later screen. You might want to rearrange them if that is the case.

  • ICON on 3gs keeps on changing

My ICON keep on changing ???? is this a bug or what ?? i thought apple doesn't get a bug ??? what's going on ?? and how do i fix this ???

"Something between 2.2.1 and 3.0 messes the icons up."
I don't think this is true. My wife's new 3gs has had an icon go gray. She never had iTunes syncing with any phone or prior version of the software. She started off with this new phone and 3.0. I think the problem is definitely 3.0 related and has nothing to do with prior software.

  • Screwed up my default icons with CandyBar - how to get 'em back??

    Hi,
Okay, this was really dumb of me, I know - please be gentle...
I registered Shapeshifter a couple of weeks ago and used it to change my theme and system icons to my liking.
Then, today, I downloaded the CandyBar demo to see what that would do. Bad idea. I found that the Finder would display the CandyBar icons if ShapeShifter's icon setting was set to Aqua Default. (Seems that they change the icons in different ways.) At some point, Candy Bar complained that some of my icons weren't the system defaults and what did I want to do about the default backup? Whatever I did wasn't smart, because now I cannot get back to the Aqua System defaults. When I try to restore from CandyBar, it complains that it doesn't have the backup record. And when I try Aqua Defaults in Shapeshifter, it displays a mish-mash of "real" OX systems and (mostly) icons from the Icontainer that I installed via CandyBar.
Where do the default Aqua icons reside, anyway? And is there any way to get back to them short of installing a clean system folder? Hope this makes sense...
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Well, I've thought of doing an "Archive and Install," which would give me a fresh "System" folder but leave my current accounts, Internet settings and email intact, and presumably, get all my default icons back. But then you have to laboriously transfer over a lot of Application Support files for your installed, 3rd-party apps, which can take hours. At this point, I have only a handful of messed up icons, and I'm thinking that I may be better off living with it until Leopard comes along and I can make a fresh start that way. What's so frustrating is that replacing that CoreTypes.bundle got nearly all my Aqua defaults back - but why are those few that won't revert so stubborn??
I should add that I'm glad I didn't buy CandyBar. It seems to mess with your System folder in a way that Unsanity's "Shapeshifter" does not.
    Take care,
    Steve

  • Icon download to excel

    Hi All,
During an ALV list display I use a few icons for a few fields, say
Im displaying vbeln-posnr-matnr-netwr, I use icon(icon_okay, icon_cancel etc) for matnr.
So when the list is displayed everything is fine, but when I download this list to an excel these icons are not recognized and hence they are being displayed as wild characters (these are the icon codes) like @7Q@, @CA@ et. al.
Any work arounds for this problem will be appreciated <<removed_by_moderator>>

Normaly, you dont have such a mess of icons, so this approach isnt much work.
But the most severe thing is that icons are character variables having length 2 or 4. And cause of that the text replacement doesnt fit into the icon var.
So you have to have an additoional field, and with a method you can go through table icon and get the description of that icon back. If you put that into a method or a FM then it will work with every icon available.

  • Snap-To-Grid Finder feature doesn't work for mounted data CDs (Icon View)

I always use Icon View in Finder. And I AM aware of the CMD+J --> Arrange by --> Snap-To-Grid feature. I've set it for all my other Finder windows for my startup drive, and it works. (Actually, I set it to auto-arrange by Kind.) I've even used it as the default setting by clicking the "Set As Defaults" button at the bottom of the View Options window.
But there seems to be a weird glitch where every time I insert a burned data CD with icon folders and such, my Finder window always opens a mess of icons, one on top of each other. I keep setting it back to CMD+J --> Arrange by --> Kind, and the icons organize into grids right after. I click "Set As Defaults" again. But when I eject the CD, then mount it again, Finder gives me a mess of one-on-top-of-the-other icons all over again. What gives? I just want to be able to set all my files to auto-arrange in Finder by Kind.

But when I eject the CD, then mount it again, Finder gives me a mess of one-on-top-of-the-other icons all over again
    Of course it will.
The CD is read-only - it can't be written to. Since the window position, view settings, layout, etc. are stored in the directory, there's no way for the Finder to write the changed settings back to the disk before you eject it.
The issue occurs because what you're seeing is how the window was laid out when the disk was burned in the first place.
Your solution is to re-burn the disk, positioning the icons where you want them before starting the burn.

  • My firefox is more than messed up

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0IKH7uYXA8&feature=youtu.be
So this problem is almost not to be explained. Please watch the video.
I used youtube because it has a lot of thumbnails. I guess you could say... images mess up, icons like the arrow in my scrollbar get switched by random images in the webpage, my tab bar gets messy as you see in the video...
Since it's happening all over the browser, in the tab bar, the scroll bar, etc.. I thought maybe it's malware but I completely scanned my computer.
It also isn't an add-on because I added add-ons after this problem occuring in my browser.
I guess it must be some very very weird bug that somehow got into my browser. Question is: how do I fix it.

You had me at the site icon fracturing all over the active tab... most likely an incompatibility with your graphics card/chipset driver software. Other users with that issue have worked around it temporarily by disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
Since hardware acceleration improves the appearance of fonts and animations, you may want to check your computer manufacturer's website to see whether any graphics card/chipset driver updates are available for your system.

  • IOS 6 on 3GS Dismal Battery Life

Since updating to iOS 6 last week, my 3GS has turned into a mess.  Battery life has gone from quite good to dismal. I have tried to figure out why the battery is going flat within just a few hours with minimal use, where on 5.1.1 it lasted for days.
Many of the so called features of iOS 6 have been stripped back to minimal or no value at all.  Maps does not include 3D on the 3GS and it is certainly not near as good as Google Maps was.  ViIP in email does not appear to work properly.  There are a myriad of other issues, but the main issue is battery life is absolutely a mess.
Can I move this back to 5.1.1?  Apple Genius said they could not revert it for me and would only offer to sell me a new 3GS which they say still has 5.1.1 on it, but I am not sure if that will allow me to get my applications on it and keep the old system software.  I tried to restore back to 5.1.1, but it would not allow me to go backwards.
iOS 6 is a mess on the 3GS.  Please offer help.  I really regret this update big time.

I have rebooted, tried to go back to 5.1.1 nothing works.  I would be happy to know if there are settings that have been reset so that I can keep the battery from running down so fast - it's really bad.  All mail is on manual pull not push.  I have turned off everything I know.  I do run bluetooth for my car, but that has not been killing the phone's battery before this upgrade.
Apple Store did do a diagnostics on it, but said battery and all is fine.  I can only say that iO6 is hogging resourses on the phone to the point it just burns the battery down really fast, probably 5-10 times faster than before.
Look, I understand it is an old model, but it worked perfectly fine on 5.1.1 and now it is a total mess.  I doubt highly Apple did any testing of this on the 3GS at all - its almost like we are the Beta testers.  Who knows, but it is really not good.  Now my latest issue is it does not see my SIM card as I must restart the phone to find it and even then, it loses it.
Someone at Apple has to be looking at this issue.  I cannot be alone.  It appears a larger number of 3GS users have posted various trouble on the internet.  I can only hope Apple does something and soon.

  • Lost icon for Startup Disk in System Preferences panel

Last week i noticed that the icon for my Startup Disk doesn't display correctly in the System Preferences panel.
I've uploaded a screenshot of my System Preferences here:

You'll see the messed up icon between Speech and Universal Access.
Any ideas what can be causing this?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Finder windows don't remember icon/list settings upon restart

My computer recently started having this strange problem: Whenever I start my computer and click on "Macintosh HD" the window that opens up shows a jumble of icons (even though I have always had the setting to "List"). Additionally when I click on a folder at this level, its contents are also a jumbled mess of icons (even though here the settings have always been "list"). I have to manually select the "list" setting in the window or in the menu to change the settings. Throughout the workday these settings are remembered but when I restart in the morning everything is back to the jumbled mess as described above. I have recently upgraded to 10.4.9 (from 10.4.7) and didn't notice if this problem started then but it definitely started soon after the upgrade. Is there anyway to make my computer remember my view settings? I apologize if my question is lengthy and thanks in advance for any advice. --Steve

Thanks for your response Niel. I'm not sure what you mean by "run" in reference to the Terminal application. Here's what I did do: I opened Terminal. I then typed in sudo chmod a+w /.DS_Store as per your suggestion. I then pressed Enter, typed in my password and hit enter. I was asked to type my password again, I did, and pressed Enter. I was asked to type in the password yet again. I didn't do it this time but instead logged out and then logged back in. However all of the icons in my finder window were still showing up as a jumbled mess of icons. I just want to get everything back to viewing as list in every window like it was before. Did I mess something up with your instructions? Although I have been using a Mac since 1989 I am a OSX weinie and need things spelled out for me. Thanks for your help!

  • HT4623 I have Iphone 3 and there is no software update in the setting/general window how can I update my iPhone

How can I upgrade IOS (Cuurently 4.1) to higher on my iPhone 3GS. I don't have in the setting icon, under general , there is no key for software upgrade.

Hi KiltedTim, I did connect Iphone (3GS) to my itunes and downloaded my apps to Itunes and then I did the upgrade automatically. It upgraded to IOS6. Then when it was rebooting It said that (Itunes said) that there is no Sim Card in the phone. That is not true, there is a Sim card in the phone and was working prior to upgrade. I put Sim card in another phone and it was ok. Took the phone to Apple Store Genius group abd they said I have to get a new phone for $150 or go to AT&T store and get a new Sim Card. got the new Sim card, loaded and connected to Itunes, Same thing. First could not connect to Itunes then when it did said no Sim card. Sim card is working with another 3GS phone. I think Itunes messed up my 3GS when upgrading OS. What do you think. Any body?

  • I am unable to install Flash Player

I have failed several times to install the latest Flash Player 12. I am using Safari. Is that the problem in and of itself??? I followed the help suggestions for installing on a Mac. I successfully uninstalled the previous Flash Player. The dmg download works but when the window opens with the install folder to dbl click, I notice the layout is messed up: icons overlapping and such. The installer launches and goes through the initial screens. At the end when I expect it to say complete. It shows a check but says "unable to proceed with the installation". I have also tried changing the update preferences to see if that made a difference. Nope.
If anyone has an idea of how to solve this problem, I would appreciate your advice. Thank you.

  • Nouveau driver NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 corrupting on GNOME 3

I am trying to get Arch running on my sister's laptop, since she was an idiot and didn't upgrade or update Fedora 14, which caused it to be unable to update at all.
I've had the worst time getting this thing running. But my final unsolvable problem is getting the graphics card to work in Gnome 3.
I installed the nouveau drivers as suggested before messing with nvidia drivers. The nouveau drivers have this severe problem: they don't draw GNOME 3 or GDM consistently. They draw GTK windows and apps fine, though.
    Symptoms:
    The text is garbled.
The top bar isn't drawn at all, or it's drawn with messed up icons and messed up text.
The animated water drop that shows when you move the cursor to the top left of the screen works fine.
So I installed the nvidia driver because this is simply unacceptable. followed all instructions by the book, then restarted. The desktop reverted to the "fallback" method, which was usable, but this indicated problems with the driver (supposed to be 3D accelerated).
Then I did "nvidia-xconfig", and rebooted. The kernel module now wouldn't work. The /var/log/kernel.log read near the bottom of it,
NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 GPU installed in this system is supported through the NVIDIA 173.14.xx Legacy drivers. The 285.05.05.09 NVIDIA driver will ignore this GPU.
Well that certainly isn't what I bargained for. It's nvidia's stupid driver. WORK already!
I'll include another log found at /var/log/Xorg.0.log because I think the DRI modules, whatever those are, may be responsible for this, even though I followed the directions and made sure the nvidia config didn't have any DRI anything:
    loading extension XFree86-DRI
    load module "dri2"
    loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri2.so
    load extension DRI2
    loadModule: "nvidia"
    loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so
Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your system's kernel log for additional error messages.
Don't pay attention to the capitalization. It doesn't matter. The capitalization is correct in the files. I think the problem is to do with something else.
My guess is that somehow this laptop's graphics card is just so d--- old that nvidia forgot about it *sarcasm*. It doesn't explain why the nouvea drivers suck so much on it. Why are they corrupting gnome, and better yet, will it be fixed? Otherwise, this laptop has met its life-span.

    I forgot something.
I uninstalled the nvidia driver afterward and reinstalled the nouveau driver, but I'm having new problems. I've tried to recall what all config files I changed to work with the nvidia driver, and I've reverted them. I could have missed some.
GDM will start, and I can log in but now Gnome 3 doesn't show any GUI controls. Only the background.
Xabre wrote:Well, as noted, you dont need nvidia driver (which is for geforce 6 and newer chips), but  nvidia-173 driver (gf 5 series),  which currently doesn't support xorg 1.11, which is in arch repoes.
Best suggestion, if nouveau doesn't fit,  is to rebuild or find a repo with xorg 1.10 (wiki might help), and the install nvidia-173 from AUR.
Isn't there a way to force the update server to give you an earlier version of a package? And if so, would it automatically uninstall the newer version, and its dependencies and its dependees, and replace them? I've been reading Man pages all day, so I'm really tired at this point and need a little help sorting through the information in my head.

  • My ical calender doesn't sync with our iphone's

if we create new date's in our iphone calender the ical calender on our Mac OSX 10.6.8 doesn't sync it anymore.....! we do't use icloud!
what is the problem and how can we fix it?
we have iphone 4, iphone 3 and Mac OSX 10.6.8

I think I have the same deal going on.
All this time checking the boxes of what to sync,
now the worst calendar ever on iPhone.
    For some reason,
3Gs, even though 'ALL DAY' is not set, every entry is ALL DAY and everyday.
    What a Mess.
Update 3Gs beyond 3.1.3 to latest update not made for it, iCal takes a hit?
    Go to iTunes
re-sync does nothing to rectify it,
After all events are re-edited at MacPro, no difference on iPhone after sync from MacPro.
No event is set to AllDay, yet they are on iPnone iCal as if by default.
    Last attempt from iTunes-
Use Advance/Replace Calendars with info from this computer.
Nice Try, but no connection correction follows to iPhone.
Yahoo calendar always worked since 01.
    Birthdays never missed.
No idea iCal events are missing. Nice email, letting you know after.
Always thought it odd no holidays included.
If you physically never go to MobileMe.
MobileMe wants to update to new iCal version.
No hint of iCal update doing sync otherwise.
Read warnings before update. Instructions are not clear.
May loose it all first, then fix it.

  • Stack questions

I have created folders with multiple applications to be used as stacks. On the dock it shows these folders with multiple icons. Is there a way to edit/choose a single icon for each stack instead of having jumbled mess of icons.
    Thank you

I just typed stacks icons into Search Discussions field & screen came up with, above the results, the following fields:
    Search Terms
Restrict by Category or Forum (This can be changed to All Categories if it isn't already set)
    Restrict by Date Range
    Restrict by Username
    Results per page
The other way of getting to this screen is to click the More Options link above the search field.
