Messed up iPod Backed up in Disk Mode - Questions...

ITunes isn't recognizing my 2nd Gen iPod, and the updater only gives me the option to restore to factory settings. I was able to get the iPod into hard disk mode and backed up with PsyncX though.
If I move into the backed up folder with Terminal I can see all the songs. How would I go about putting the songs back on the iPod after restoring to factory settings - can I just copy them over in Terminal?
Interesting note is that the folder on my Desktop that contains the backup actually looks like a mounted iPod :P

Hi
First of all thanks for your reply, but...
Please try to plug your iPod with the AC charger and press "select"+"menu" keys- to get out from disk mode
OK, did that, now I get the folder icon, or if I then try to reset the mini, it goes back to disk mode.
When I plug it into the PC now, it does kind of a loop. It goes from Mac logo to folder icon to "do not disconnect" to "ok to disconnect", then repeats. The PC is not recognising the ipod at all now.

  • Help! My iPod is stuck in disk mode!

So yesterday my computer didn't recognize my iPod. I followed different directions but non of them seemed to work. Then I put it into disk mode. Now the only way to put songs on my iPod and charge it is by putting it into disk mode. Now it's stuck there. Everytime I try reseting it will stay on the apple logo screen. From there all I can do is put it back in disk mode.
Help me get it out of disk mode and load songs normally! I would be very grateful!

Xox: Rather than reset....Restore your iPod.
To turn disk mode off, open iTunes with the iPod connected, edit/preferences/ipod/music. Enable disk mode is at the bottom. If it is greyed out, change your Music update option to manual, uncheck enable disk mode and then set your music update option back to what you want.

  • Please Help, My ipod is stuck in disk MODE...

My ipod is stuck in disk mode, I try to reset it but it doesnt work. I tried using ipod updater to restore it, but i only get "Firemare update failure. Disk write error." If you have any suggestions please post

Well my itunes doesnt even read my nano. Right now all I want to do is just restore it but...it keeps saying "Firmware update failure. Disk write error." So how do i restore my ipod if i keep getting this error?
Oh yeah, the reason my nano is in disk mode is cause my pc restarted while i was uploading music into it.

  • My ipod is stuck in disk mode when connected to computer.

Hello, my iPod is stuck in disk mode when I connect it to my computer. iTunes will not recognize the device is connected, but it still shows up in my computer. When I restart the iPod, it tells me to go to iTunes to restore, then immediately shuts off. How can I restore it?

  • Can't get ipod classic 80GB into disk mode

I have tried and tried to get this 80GB ipod into disk mode by pushing the select/menu until it restarts and the select/pp buttons. It keeps going back to the red x. please help.

Is it possible my IPOD is defective?
Probably not, but it's more than likely that the docking station either isn't compatible with the Classic or the cables supplied with it aren't.
Does it specifically say the Dynex is Classic compatible?

  • Ipod nano stuck in disk mode and reset mode

My ipod which I haven't used for long came into my sight and i triedto use it and the battery was out. OK, so I charged it through my computer Windows XP with the usb. Of course my itunes program detected my nano. And it kept telling me to upgrade my nano so I clicked OK. after 2or 3 mins it was completed and it said to wait until nano reboots itself. But it won't... so i pulled it out.
Ok when i turned it on the gray screen with the apple logo in the middle appeared. It won't move anymore so I resetted it by pushing the center and the menu button and endless circulation began. 4secs later it blacked out and right after, the gray screen appeared again and again..until the battery wasout ..So I came here and knew about the center and play button so I tryed it worked so I was able to see my ipod on my itunes ,which did not appear before, and now it keeps on telling me to restore it because it was damaged. so I did. and now it came back as new. I wrote my new apod name ...etc. and after that I pulled it out. now it's stuck in disk mode and I can't move on,,,
I'm sorry the article is long but please help me!

Thank you, it worked just fine. I guess Apple has replaced operating instructions for these forums! Again, thanks for the help.

  • My iPod is stuck in Disk Mode

I have a 3 year old iPod and the other day I went to put it back in the docking station for a recharge and noticed no display of the Charging icon.
When I pressed a button to activate the device I noticed a Icon of a Folder with an excamation point. When I connect it to my computer it sees that it is connected and Windows see it as a removable drive. The device displays that it is in DISK MODE. I am unable to browse the directories and it really locks my computer up when I try to access it.
iTunes does not see the device. Windows see it as an APPLE Device.
I am unable to do a reset from the iPod controls.
I was able to open the device and remove the battery hoping that this would resolve the issue, but not luck.
Please Help. I have some important docs on the drive that I need to get. All my music is backuped up so I am not to worried about that.

    Additional notes:
Windows sees the iPod as a removable drive that is not a recognizable format. It sees two partitions 39 MB and a 18+ GB. The 18+ GB partition shows 100% available.

  • Ipod is stuck in Disk mode

I have reset the ipod twice, connected to my computer and Itunes, synced the device, yet it remains stuck in disk mode.

Hold down the center button along with the menu button and then your ipod will turn of
After that step has been completed and your ipod is switched off you turn your ipod back on but press the play/pause button so that it switches from disc mode to non-disc mode.
Well then your ipod is back to shape and you can carry on listining to your music!

    any other sujestions?

Is the Hold switch in the OFF position?  Even if it is in the OFF position, try moving it to the ON position and back to the OFF position, as it says to do in the procedure document for a Reset

  • Ipod rarely goes into disk mode

Hi. I have followed the steps to get my ipod into disk mode, because I am getting an ipod picture with a frown. Only rarely does it actually go into disk mode. I have toyed with it being plugged into my computer, into the wall, and not plugged in at all, but i cant get my ipod to get back into disk mode. What would be the easiest way to do this?
    Thanks alot

  • Ipod mini stuck in disk mode wont reset

    Hey,
My iPod mini is stuck in disk mode, either displaying "ok to disconnect" or "do not disconnect" and won't reset.
When connected to my PC, iTunes does not notice the iPod, although it does show up in "my computer". When I try to run an iPod updater to restore the iPod, it either takes forever and I end up pushing CTRLALTDEL, or it comes up with the error message "cannot mount iPod".
I already know how to reset an iPod mini, having done it many times before. I've removed and reinstalled iTunes and iPod updater many times and it's making no difference.
So what can I do? I've had so many problems with iPod mini since I've had it. Every couple of months I end up stuck in front of my computer trying to fix it. Can anyone help me, or is there a way of contacting apple for a replacement?
    Thanks

  • Reformat iPod for Windows in disk mode

I've had my 20GB color iPod for about a year now and so far it's only seen macs. I want to reformat it in disk mode for Goddam Windows so I can transfer files. But when I connect to a Goddam Windows computer, iTunes and Goddam Windows don't see it. The iPod is flashing the Don't Disconnect icon, so it knows it's connected.
How do I get the computer to see the iPod so I can reformat?

After your iPod Software is downloaded, perform a restore on your iPod (this will format your iPod to your computer). Do that by:
1 - Plug in your iPod.
2 - Close iTunes if it is currently running.
3 - Go to "START -> All Programs -> iPod -> iPod Updater".
4 - Wait till your iPod shows up in the Updater (hope fully it will).
5 - When it does, click the "Restore" button. This process should take about 5 minutes.
Restoring will delete all the content off your iPod, but will not affect your iTunes library.
If you were not able to complete step 4, then try putting your iPod into disk mode (see this link):
