Messed up Java uninstall - now can't download new version!

I had two very old versions of Java on my machine. I used Revo Uninstall to remove Java 5 - no problems. Then I used it again to uninstall Java 6 Update 3 (this was the last copy of Java on the machine). The uninstall worked, and I was informed there were 1500+ registry entries left behind. That freaked me out, so I decided NOT to clean those out. It also informed me there were 600+ files left in the C:\Program Files\Java ... folder and I did decide to clean those.
So far so good. Java was uninstalled, and the Windows Uninstaller showed Java to be gone.
Now, I wanted to install the newest Java. So, I went to sun.com and followed the links to download Java. Neither the "online" or "offline" versions of the file would download. The 5.5 MB file stopped downloading at 500K+ bytes, and the 17 MB offline version stopped downloading at approx. 900K+ bytes. I tried many times, using both Firefox and Internet Explorer, but no luck.
Then I tried going to OpenOffice (hoping to download the 142MB file that included Java). The entire file downloaded (I think), but when I tried to run the installer, it informed me the file might be unfinished or corrupt.
I was able to download and run all sorts of files (anti virus, utilities, etc.) from download.com, but for some reason, I can't download/run Java.
Anyone have any ideas

I had the same issue with a purchased version of CS6....in my case i wanted to reinstall CS6 on a new PC. The kind folks at Adobe fixed this for me today. Here is the anonomised script from the chat

This is being written on my iMac. Problem computer is my Toshiba XP laptop on the same (hard-wire) line via a router. The iMac is up to date; the iMac is used for all current Internet activity. I use the laptop for technical work, and only rarely need Internet.

No, sorry, that's not how forums work. We are just ordinary people, not employed by Adobe (and Adobe won't help, because it's free software).
Step 1. Try to get the file you want on screen. I expect you to see the message "If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document"
Step 2. Understand you are looking at a page of a file, even though it looks like an error message. It is in a window, right?
Step 3. Move your mouse towards the bottom of the window. Stop moving the mouse. A little bar should appear with four buttons.
Step 4. Click the fourth button.
Step 5. Open FINDER.
Step 6. Open Downloads from your left bar.
Step 7. Find the file you just downloaded.
Step 8. Double click on that file to open it.
Please do not skip anything, just because you don't understand it. Instead, let us know.
If these instructions let you down, please let us know (a) on which step, and (b) what actually happens instead of what I said.

Hi ,I need guidance,my laptop said a new version of itunes was available, so i downloaded it, it came up with the error message, ,quicktime not found , pleae load, did this , no sign of it on my laptop, got in touch with apple, recommended i unload itunes and quicktime, this i did, tried to reload itunes,doesn't appear anywhere on my laptop know, not even an icon on the desktop, have i got something enabled to top it loading properly ? it goes through the process of loading, but doesn't tell me it hasn't ? any help would be appreciated, thanks

More information - the popup box says:
Adobe Reader could not open 'Firefox 8.0-8.dmg' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Yahoo mail not working with Safari and I can't download new version of Safari either

The new version of Yahoo keeps freezing up when using Safari (and does the same with Chrome). It works better when I revert to teh basic Yahoo. But the old version of Yahoo doesn't show most recnet messages and doesn't import contacts.
I have cleaned out cookies and caches and trued to reset Safari.
Whe I try to doewnload Maverick that should contain new version of Safari I can't proceed because I can't get into my account without giving credit card details (the option NONE does not appear next to Mode of Payment) and when I do give credit card details including the three digit code the sytem ssys the info is not valid.

SKYPE...CAN'T DOWNLOAD NEW VERSION

I'm trying to download the newest vesion of Skype on my Macbook, and I am failing. I try and run the "download for mac" program and it appears that it fully downloads in my download, but when I try and run it I have the message:
"WARNING"
'The following disk images failed to mount:
Skype: 2-3.6.015dm
Reason: codec overrun.
The only option is "ok," but I am never able to download this new version. I have the old version of skype currently, but it doesn't allow me to video chat which is my motive for the download in the first place. I need skype because my AIM doesn't work with someone I know who has skype. I appologize if I am asking this in the wrong forum, new to all of this and painfully ingorant when it comes to the entire tech world. Thanks so much to anyone with answers or suggestions.

It works just as it should (and is intended too). Skype does throttle updates, meaning that the "check for updates" button will not return the latest version imediatly after a release. Downloading from skype.com however will.
This is to avoid update servers from crashing (when x million users try to download simultanously), and to get feedback (on bugs that might have been missed or arises from special configurations not available to the developers).

Sync error AND can't uninstall AND can't download new iTunes

So last week I tried to add some stuff to my iPod because I hadn't in a while. When I connected it to the computer and opened iTunes, I got an error message about the sync-up.
I got on the 'net to download an iTunes update (10.7 at the time, I believe) to see if that would help. After trying five times, I gave up. Nothing happens when I hit "Download Now." I'm confident it has nothing to do with pop-up blockers or security settings. I double-checked them just to be sure. And it's not like I haven't downloaded other stuff recently.
OK, so I try uninstalling iTunes to see if that helps. Nope; can't do that either. I get a message basically saying I'm not allowed.
I've been about four hours on this problem by now, including scouring online message boards for an explanation. Unfortunately, it seems I'm the only one having all of these problems at once. I'm not sure if this is just iTunes being dumb or if this is part of a larger computer problem I'm having.
Any help would be appreciated.

I bought a series pass and received an email saying there were new episodes to download. However, it won't let me.
It's on my iPad. I keep getting the message saying this device is already associated with another ID.
It's the exact same ID I originally used and haven't even signed out of my account. No matter what I do nothing works. I've tried signing in and out but nothing I do seems to do the trick. This is really frustrating as I've paid my money but aren't getting the full product.

I keep getting a message "Blocked Plug-in" anytime I download a video. Then a screen tells me to download an updated version from the Adobe website. But after pushing download button the download does not work. What can I do to get this problem corrected? Do I need to turn off my antivirus software?

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
