  • Messed Up Keyboard Mapping, not an Software Issue

    Greetings Folks!
I've been having a strange problem with my keyboard; the keyboard mapping is all messed up!
I was writing a piece of work this afternoon, and had to go out for couple of hours. I put my Macbook Pro into sleep and gone out. When I returned, I seemed to having problem logging in again. Tried to log in to guest account, all worked normal. I did some trials, apparently my keyboard mapping got screwed. All keys are working but all address strange letters, like Kyrilic or Scandinavian letters. Function keys are OK, I can adjust the brightness, etc, touchpad is fine, but no text.
I'm practically locked out of my account. Only one thing is the extreme slowness of stacks. It takes forever icons to pop out, everything else seems fine. All software work, everything is OK, and local keyboard mapping settings seems fine.
    Any suggestions?

Yeah, keyboard is messed up, it was an hardware issue.
I've stopped by in my Apple Store and told them about the problem. They were very kind, and I handed my Macbook Pro over. The have examined it, and delivered to me shortly. According to the service document, one of the function keys struck somehow, altering the whole mapping of keyboard. They have changed it, and my Mac runs like new.
    Thanks for tips mate.

  • Fn key messes up keyboard

i think i pressed something and now if i let go of my fn key this happens+`5\6-\ (also the brightness drops and right click activates all at once.) this is a huge problem for me since i cant do anything if i let it go. if i do so,random stuff happens anf i cant operate my computer. please tell me how to fix it.

    Tony,
I cannot give you a precise answer to your question.
If you call HP and if you use HP service, then it appears from what you said that HP knows your computer is still within the standard warranty period.   I have never needed to show HP proof of coverage -- these days all that information is held in a database in a computer, not on paper copies in a drawer.
If you purchased a warranty from a retail establishment (some place other than HP), and if you wish to use that warranty to obtain services for your computer, then you must abide by the rules outlined in your product-coverage document.
For example:  If you bought your computer from Big Box Computers and you purchased a extra warranty from the people at Big Box Computers, then you have to follow their rules.  If they say you have to have a paper copy to prove you purchased the warranty, then you must have the paper copy.
    =========================================================================================
You will have to decide how to proceed - at the least, you can decide whether to call HP or another company for assistance and then act on that decision.  You can ask HP or the other company about your warranty status when you talk to them.
Do not wait too long - standard warranty coverage from HP is valid for a limited time period -- you don't want to delay asking for help and then find out your warranty lapsed while you were trying to decide what to do.  It is possible that HP will be able to help you fix the issue without you having to send in the computer for repair.
I hope you can decide what to do and that you can get this issue resolved!

  • Pavilion 15-b142dx Some Keyboard keys not working

A friend gave me their Pavilion 15-b142dx  sleekbook, apparently AFTER they spilled some type of liquid in it. I was able to revive the computer, however, there is still a problem with the keyboard.  When the keyboard is installed in the laptop, several of the keys do not work. However, when I take it out (and suspend it with some plastic) it works fine.  I have disconnected the ribbon cable, and taken some alcohol to clean up the area. I have also been able to run the HP diagnostics on bootup, both short and extended versions, and they come back ok.  Additionally, I connected an external keyboard and it worked fine. I have searched the forum for this type of question and didn't see it. Has anyone else had this problem, or am I looking at replacing the keyboard?
I currently am running windows 8.1. I do not get any error messages, but I did notice HP does not include a keyboard key test in its diagnostics.

    Hi there @MrKen99
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that some of your keys are not working, after some liquid decided to pay an unwanted visit to the board. I am happy to assist you with this.
In my sordid past I have seen some really messed up keyboards, due to similar things, coffee, cola, water, whatever. My most memorable was someone who brought me a computer that was used in a kitchen and was close to a deep fat fryer, and the keyboard was not only coated with oil and grease but a build up of fuzzy dust all throughout the keyboard. In that case I recommended a replacement as the cost to clean it was more expensive than a new one.
Anyway, it sounds as if you have already tried to clean it, but if you did not pop off the offending/non-working keys, the contacts could be "tacky". Make note of the keys that are having the problem and treat them individually. This document shows how to remove and replace keys from a standard notebook keyboard.
    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
If you do not have any success doing that then, I would look at either replacing the keyboard, or using an external keyboard. If you choose a replacement you can look at the service manual for it, and it will list the supported parts.

  • I want to disable my pb g4 keyboard

    hi
i have a messed up keyboard (the r key just "presses itself all the time)
so i have a wireless keyboard which i use with my mighty mouse and 23 inch display
BUT i want to turn OFF my pb keyboard!

To my knowledge, you can't turn it off. Why not just gently pop the key off, clean underneath it, and put it back on?

  • MSI Keyboard Issiue

    Hello.
I own an MSI GT70 0ND ( MS-1762 ) laptop and after some time i wanted to change my keyboard.
I bought a new one and it turned out that it don't work. I mean that if i press a key the system input is diffrent for every key i have pressed.
After some research i found out that my laptop uses a windows 7 keyboard layout and the new one that i bought have a windows 8 layout.
I also found that between the two keyboard versions the scancodes have been changed, this explain why they input is diffrent.
If i am not wrong the new keyboard i have is compatible only with the MS-1763 versions and since myne is MS-1762 it dont work.
Is it possible in some way to make this keyboard work correctly on my latop?
Waiting for an answer, thank you.

just to update this topic with final info :
Yes it wasn't easy, i was able to patch the EC-FW in my workshop area with private (non official) modification
to fix this entire messed up keyboard and to make this different keyboard type to work correctly in this NB
so no need to buy another keyboard

  • Equium M50 - Touchpad issue using Win XP home

Equium M50 sm59E with XP home
I went from everything fine to an optional update from ideacom from windows knocking out my touchpad and keyboard (lots of other people have done the same and their is a growing army of us growing ) I have resorted to a new install that i have done twice now .............
I have got the keyboard working in that if you start up then put in stand by.
Then bring out of stand by. The keyboard stays on (if you dont ....then when you press a key it nocks the keyboard out ).
The touchpad i was puzzled as it wasnt even showing in device manager even though i got the relevant driver from toshiba download site.
But then i found it as a hidden device in device manager with a *!* on it and it says the driver is either not installed, not working, or the wrong one.
I also have none usb devices as hidden devices that are all ok except one that says, serial, but it has no option for to install a driver .
I read somewhere that a man had the same problem with XP and he used a download of Toshiba for downgrading OS and that worked for him but he cannot find it now .
This is reported to be a problem because of human interface updates that are messing up keyboards and touchpads ...................due to touch screen softwares in updates .
Can anyone help me out here i'm at all time low now and have exausted all avenues

This horrible driver crippled my friend's PC with Windows Vista even uninstalling the device driver does not restore the functionality of the mouse. According to some sources it disables the PS/2 port so just how to restore this I'm not sure without further investigation.
For now a System Restore is the only feasible way to restore the mouse the only problem is not everyone is familiar using the keyboard for navigating but for the most part it would involve cursor keys, tab key, and the space bar.

  • Windows and Mini?

Is it possible to connect a Mac Mini into a PC monitor and keyboard, cuz thats all I have

Will's right. For most Windows users hitting the Win key instead of the Ctrl key for shortcuts will feel strange for some time. (Not that switching to a Mac keyboard with completely different shortcut keys would be much easier). The difference in position can mess new users up, as well as the fact that the Win key is too close to some keys, such as the letter Z. Try to Undo (Ctrl-Z) using the Win key, and you'll see what I mean by uncomfortable: it's not just that you have to change your habits, but it's hard to do so with one hand.
Also, Mac keyboards have some special keys on them that you can't find on Windows keyboards. For instance, Mac keyboards have volume selection keys and an eject key. That in itself makes them superior to Windows keyboards for Mini users. Most PCs have an eject button on the actual optical drive, while the Mini doesn't. Some users may like ejecting a disk using the disk icon and the mouse, but others will prefer hitting a single button on the keyboard. Also, most of the people I know prefer using the keyboard to quickly change the volume.
Finally, many of the new Mac keyboards I've used were sort of ... "sticky", meaning that the keys were hard to press if you hit them from any angle except perfectly 90 degrees vertically. Maybe I've had messed up keyboards, but that may be a reason to stay on a Windows keyboard.
However, the final choice is the user's, and there are advantages to either option.

  • Need suggestion to tame volume dynamics

    Hi,
Can someone suggest a good channel strip setup to tame my volume issues. I have been noticing my dynamics are crazy between my different AU's and think I need to put compression on the master out instead of each instrument- which I think is eating up my system resources. I am not use to using compression much and would like advise on what others are using live to "tame" their beast. My rhodes are way too dynamic for example (I don't want to mess with keyboard response as I like it when I am at home- it's just different live).
    thx

Thanks for responding. I got my basic concert setup- but found that doing a concert-level compression just didn't work (would work for one sound but killed the rest). So I went back to going to each instrument and adding a compressor- and you are right- it just seems that compression is not the way to go.
My problem is that I am using
    Omnisphere- Afterglow
MkII Rhodes from NI Electrik Piano
Session Strings Legato preset from NI
    B4II's Sould Expression from NI
Potentially the 60's Rhodes from Logic's internal set
It is tough to get them all to "behave" well in the final output (i.e. Session Strings and B4II sound good in the lower registers but when I do some chording in the upper overpower everything, and Logic's 60's Rhodes just is too responsive to velocity and switches to that twangy sound too easily- and overpowers).
My cpu is at about 40% when idle and luckily I haven't pushed it during my practicing last night. I want to get them all to have a constant peak level so it doesn't require the soundman to constantly touch my fader (ok, that sounds bad).
It's almost like I need a good mastering setup to round off the overall sound properly- but alas, I am not that technical on that front. I will look implementing your suggestions and see how I make out- thanks again for responding and for any future advise you can give. I guess that is one benefit of using hardware-based synths- you can pretty much set the volume and forget it.

  • How to view folders with folders first and then files?

I come from a Windows world but am loving the Mac world! But one thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to view folders with all the folders first and then the files? Right now, it sorts everything in alphabetical order, intermixing the folders and files. I like being able to see the folders sorted at the top and then the files. Is there a way to do this?

If you want a more advanced browser, Pathfinder generally comes highly recommended.
I'm not aware of a way to make folders sort on top. I generally detest that feature in Windows, because it messes up keyboard navigation. Both operating systems support jumping to a file by starting to type a name, but on Windows you don't know where you end up. If I have a file called "notes", I know that typing "N" will send me somewhere very close to the file, and a few arrow presses brings me to it - if I do it on a Mac. If I do it on Windows, it depends on what is selected - if it's a folder or nothing, I jump to the first folder beginning with N, but if it's a file, I jump to the first file beginning with N - in a completely different part of the list. I do use folder grouping in some windows on the Mac, though, by adding a space to the name. Ideally, it should be a per-window setting.

  • The keyboard on my iphone is messed up and I can't type normally I have to turn my keyboard to the side. I updated my phone to the new update and I have to enter all my passwords all over again, how can I do this on the computer or avoid it all together?

I would like to either enter my passwords on my phone over the computer or avoid doing it at all. Is there anyway I can do that? Like I said my keyboard is messed up and I have to turn my phone to the side to use the keyboard, but entering in the passwords the phone wont turn to the side. Help!!!!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
There is no option to enter the password on the computer.
If the screen will not rotate, ensure that Portrait Lock is not enabled.

I have run into a keyboard problem on my Solaris 10 desktop. The keyboard is messed up. When I type root then it echoes as eiir. It is a Solaris 10 x86 system with PS/2 keyboard. The keyboard layout is US-English and type is generic 104 keys. The keyboard works fine in text mode but gets messed up as soon as the graphical login screen comes up.

    Problem solved... me the n00b...
After reading the log in /var/dt/Xerrors more closely this time I found that it was trying to load module "Keyboard" for the device "Keyboard1" and was not able to find that module. The log was also suggesting that this module is deprecated and I should use "kbd" instead... Made the changes in xorg.conf and things are good now...
