Messed up library

I decided to get OCD about my library and used TuneUp, Tagalicious and Song Genie. What I have now is a MESS!  I have two differnt songs with the same title and artist but they are entirely different songs. (Back in Black may really be Blue Eyes Crying in the rain)  I've done the Itunes match and it is all matched but it's the ID tags that are screwed up.
Is there a way to totally start over from the beginning with the tags and get my correct songs from the match service?  Is there a better way than that?  Thanks for the help.

  • Messed with library folders in "pictures" application

While trying to find some pictures in the "iphoto library" within the "pictures" folder in applications, I renamed and deleted what I thought were arbitrary or blank folders. After this changed all of my thumbnails in iphoto to blanks, I learned that you are not supposed to mess with the folders in either library. Too late. How do I get them back? The pictures are still in the "pictures" iphoto library within applications, but not in my iphoto program on my desktop. HELP!

The reason I went in and changed names and such was to more easily find the photos to attach in an email or to upload to a photo site.
There is a much better way to do this than fishing around in the iPhoto Library folder.
Use iPhoto to select the photos for your email (or to upload to a website, or to burn to disc for printing). Then Export the photos to a folder on your desktop. During the export you can also resize them, to make them smaller for email or websites. You can also have the exports renamed by the iPhoto title or album name. Use the exported copies to attach to your email or website. When you're done you can delete the desktop copies, as the full-sized files are still safe inside your iPhoto library.

  • Fixing a Messed-With Library

I tried in August to make a slide show out of an album, noticed that some of the photos were not actually appearing, and the slide show won't start. Just now getting around to fixing it, found a notice that it is not OK to mess with the data in my iPhoto library, as it will make images not show up. Needless to say, I have messed with the data, now how do I go about fixing it? I renamed stuff, probably moved it around, all of the things you aren't supposed to do. Now what?

  • My aperture library is a mess.  How do I get rid of all the duplicates?  I'm feeling rather disgusted by the whole thing at the moment.

I've been using Aperture 3 for a few months, and I'm thouroughly dismayed by the mess the library has become.  I have so many duplicates, and there doesn't seem to be a good, efficient way to sort them out.  With other files, if I move a new file to a folder that already contains a file by that name, I receive a message to that effect.  Aperture offers no help.  Like a glutton it just gobbles up every picture file, file from Photo Stream, and I don't know where else.  I'm feeling rather disgusted by the whole mess.  I've tried Aperture Duplicate Annihilator - what a waste of time.  Can I get to a photo directory that would allow me to eliminate the duplicates and errant thumbnails by hand?  That seems like an awful lot of work, but short of just deleting the entire lot, I don't know what to do.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

I have the same problem. I just switched from iPhoto to Aperture 3.
My library has about 40,000 photos - and thousands of them are duplicates.
But here is my question for the community. When I view "info" on my photos, I notice that the "project path" tags vary - or the badges vary. I have a vague feeling that this has to do with having an original file, then one version being created for the "faces" function, and another version indicating the photo is in a project, and another version indicating the photo is in a slideshow, etc. etc. But why can I find that sequentially, there are two copies of at least a hundred consecutive photos?
Is there any harm in deleting the duplicate "versions" - am I jeopardizing the original?
Help. This doesn't make sense to me.

  • Messed up my library!!

    I'm a fool!
Stupidly, I've messed up my photo heirachy.
I decided to use Backup 3.01 (the .Mac application) and clicked on the iPhoto quick key. It backed up quite fast so I thought I'd check the size. It was only about a Gbt. When I pressed get info on the user/pictures icon it showed about 8Gig.
So. I entered the dreaded user/pictures folder (big mistake) and it had a lot of albums and other weird named stuff, several years and a photo library folder and another photo library_1 folder. (the larger of the two - probably more recent?)
The photolibrary folder was exactly the size of the Backup target.
So. I decided to rearrange everything. I moved everything from the photolibrary into the photolibrary_1 and moved the photolibrary to the trash, then renamed photolibrary_1 as Photolibrary so that the Backup would find the right 'target'
Now I just get the frame outline of the photos and no content.
    Is this recoverable?
    Thanks.

    hi Steve,
looks like you have fun in that folder!
First thing to tell you. Don't trust Backup to backup your iPhoto Library. I don't. I manually burn my iPhoto Library folder in the finder to DVD, copy the iPhoto Library folder to my iPod and copy the same library to my iBook. if you have an external drive you would copy the entire iPhoto Library folder to the external. Backup.app does a full backup first, then incremental backups. I am not comfortable with that for some reason.
    Backing up your iPhoto Library
    1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use iDVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
    2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
    3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
Second thing, if you go into your Pictures folder there is one iPhoto Library folder there by default. You had to have created another iPhoto Library at some point in time. do you remember doing that? It must have been when using an older version of iPhoto. I think doing a rebuild does that for you and the new rebuilt library has the _1 extension on it.
The Pictures folder you can put any other folders in with images, etc. these do not affect the iPhoto Library folder that iPhoto uses. The only thing you shouldn't touch is the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder. iPhoto has its own way of organizing thing s and changing anything in that folder will, well, give you what you got.
Now to recover...it depends on what you mean by recover.
if you mean to get your library back to the same state it was in before, then that is a maybe. If you can put everything back in the same exact place, then yes, maybe iPhoto will open that library. Most likely not, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
I will post a screen shot online so you can see how it is organized and this will help you try and reconstruct it.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
Once you reconstruct it, name it iPhoto Library and put it in the Pictures folder.
Launch iPhoto and it will try to open a folder called iPhoto Library by default if there are no other iPhoto Library folders in there.
Like I said, this is a long shot.
The easiest thing to do would bite the bullet and create a new library, then import the images from the messed up library.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • My Itunes library is messed up. Wong titles. Wrong albums. Wrong everything. EX. I play a song by avenged sevenfold but then it plays a song by eminem. Song titles dont match what they play and neither does the artists name

My Itunes library is messed up. Wong titles. Wrong albums. Wrong everything. EX. I play a song by avenged sevenfold but then it plays a song by eminem. Song titles dont match what they play and neither does the artists name. Can I restart everything from itunes? I know this sounds cunfunsing, (and it is) but yeah.
Once again to try and clarify, The song(which itunes says is by artist, band, person, etc) is mixed up with another song out of my libary.
If there's something you dont get ask me!!! thanks

I'm experiencing the same issue. Not only do I get a messed up library, but since I've let iTunes handle my music files, they too have been shuffled around - placed in different album folders and sometimes given names of other songs... With quite a large library, the cleanup makes me feel a bit like Sisyfos pushing the rock uphill - it's a never ending story. Only positive side of this is that I get to play a lot of music quizzes while guessing who plays the song that is disguised as eg. Buddy from De La Soul, and then afterwards try to track down the real 'Buddy' as this has also found another folder to hide in...
Shazam has come to the rescue a few times so far...
@Apple: this is just not good enough!

  • My iTunes library seems messed up - any ideas?

Recently I have noticed some strange things in my ITunes library, here are a couple examples:
    * One of my audio tracks suddenly appears in the podcast section. The media type has been changed to "podcast" as well. It is also physically located in the podcast directory.
    * Sometimes a song suddenly appears twice in my library. They link to the same physical file though. Sometimes this happens to only one song of an album, sometimes to a bunch of songs of the same album.
    * Sometimes the meta-tags of a single track seem to be mixed up with those of a different track. A song by <Artist X> suddenly has the name of one of my podcasts in the "Grouping" field. An audio book suddenly shows the cover of one of my albums.
The list goes on but I think you get the picture. All of these tracks have been fine before. I can fix these errors but new ones spring up constantly.
Is there something wrong with my library? Does this have anything to do with the fact that I store all my media on an external NAS? Does my Apple TV cause these problems? Or my iPhone?

  • How do I move only part of my itunes library to an external hard drive?

I have all my music and movies in the itunes library. I am wanting to move the movies to an external hard drive to save space, but keep the music in itunes on my computer.  I want to be able to play them all through my apple TV via home sharing. I have read a number of posts about consolidating the library and how to access files from an external hard drive, and how to move the entire library to another location, but don't know how to move part of the library.

It is possible but it is not standard configuration for iTunes. You will need to learn details of how iTunes operates in order to stay on top of it and not be back here in a month with a messed up library, or in a year or two when you discover it is a real nuisance when it comes to transferring your content to a new drive.
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/instant-expert-secrets-featur es-of-itunes-9/ - "To perform a consolidate operation on selected tracks only, simply highlight the tracks you would like the consolidate, right-click and choose 'Consolidate'. iTunes will prompt you to confirm that you want to copy these tracks into your iTunes Media folder."  You will, of course, need to temporarily re-designate your iTunes media folder location as part of doing this.
The above method is a possibility but I have not tested it because I still run iTunes 7.5
Another way would be to copy the files to the external drive.  Delete them from iTunes, then drag the copied files back to iTunes (re-adding them) while holding down the option key.  If you do have anything in a playlist it will have to be re-added to the playlist, and you will lose ratings and date added.

  • ITunes Match keeps resetting my iTunes Library metadata

I would be very grateful if somebody could help me!  I have painstakingly gone through all my classical music tracks (all 2000 of them) fixing the metadata.  I joined iTuines Match the day it was launched all my songs were already synced to that service.
For example, I want the composers name at the beginning of each song tile:   Beethoven; Symphony No.9
Then I want the composer field to list the composer's name like this:  Beethoven, Ludvig van
And I want the performers name (not the composers name) to be in the Artist & Album Artist fields:   Leonard Bernstein, New York Philhamonic
I spent a whole day manually changing them all to the way I want them (and had a great time listening to some awesome music at the same time!).   BUT.... low and behold, iTunes Match seems to have intervened and changed many of them back!!  Much of my hard work is gone
I made sure that iTunes Match was already turned off on my other computers before I started, so that does not seem to be the problem...
How can I force iTunes Match to keep my songs named the way I want them named etc?
Any help would be most appreciated!

It sounds like your iPad is not signed into the same itunes STORE account.
Make sure that it is and that the toggle button for show all music is turned on and you should slowly see your music becoming available on your device.
As far as the constant signing in I would say do you have the latest software on your computer?
If you do then I would suggest uninstallling itunes and reinstalling from the apples website.
Sometimes this helps FIX somethings we can't see.  You will probably have to sign in once you reinstall but it should just go through the motions and it will not double upload your music.  At least it hasn't for me.
When you reinstall itunes your itunes library will not be affected so don't be worried about it messing your library up. At least it never has for me.

  • 4.3.2 update messed up my ipod touch... same issues peple complained about with 4.3.1

So the last update 4.3.1 that everyone complained about worked fine with my ipod touch... it was working great actually. Then I did the update for 4.3.2 and crash and burn... now I am having all the issues that people were complaining about with 4.3.1...
Battery life is much shorter than before
Cover art flow is messed up- most of the albums show up as a pixelated mess
Photo library is messed up- the images do not line up in the grid and are all cut off or look like tiled multiple images
When listening to music and the screen shows the full size cover art- the art shows up looking "tiled" not a full centered image.
The screen is kind of glitchy, like it freezes up for a second before doing what it needs to do- for example when the lock screen is on and you unlock it it kind of has this delayed reaction before changing.
Also, the combo of the update and the new itunes is totally screwed up... I am using windows 7 and can't decide if this is a weird windows issue or itunes and the ipod updates, but when I plug in the ipod to sync it will either wipe out all of my music and apps or will instantly freeze and I have to force quit. My back ups no longer work with the new updates, so I had to re-download all of my apps...  And when I can get itunes to work for a moment and I sync music the songs usually cut out randomly or skip- so to solve that I resorted to using media monkey- but this doesn't fix the artwork sync issues.
Having spent several hundred dollars on an ipod, i expect this stuff to work!! and it would be great if it worked with the programs as intended, but maybe I have high expectations.
Has anyone else had any of these problems? I am feeling like I might just have to suck it up and deal.

Mine has been doing the exact same thing. It messes up even more with each stupid update they do. One thing that I have found helps is restoring my ipod.

  • I accidentally moved my iPhoto library.  Now it says "folder empty" and I can't find any of my photos anywhere.  HELP!

I was trying to clean up my startup disk and get some space freed up.  I moved a bunch of stuff to my dropbox (temporary measure until I get a backup drive).  I didn't realize my iphoto library is actually in my documents folder.  I copy the whole folder to dropbox, and then delete the contents on my hard drive.  When I go to dropbox and look at my iphoto library, it's empty.  Are my photos just gone?  Can they be recovered?  HELLLLPPP!!!!

By default your iPhoto library is in the pictures folder not the documents folder - you should have it in the pictures folder to avoid errors like this
You probably lost your iPhoto library as generally the iphoto library is corrupted often beyond repair by putting it on DropBox - as a future note NEVER delete any important files until you have verified that you have a good copy  --  and also for the future purchase an external drive formatted Mac OS extended (jourmnaled)  roughly 2 to 2 1/2 times the size of your main drive and start running TimeMachine all the time so you have hourly local backups
If you do not have a backup then all you can do it drag the iPhoto library back form DropBox to the pictures folder and hold down the option key while launching iPhoto and select the library n the pictures folder - if that does not work then you will have to start over - hopefully your Masters folder is intact and has all of you original photos - to start over drag it to the desktop, trash the messed up library and launch iPhoto to create a new library and drag the folders of photos from the Masters folder to iPhoto to import them

  • Only part of my Itunes library shows.

The Ipod touch has all my music and such on it but when I go to sync new music onto it, only part of the library shows. I cant see any of the library in my itunes on the computer other than what i have purchased. New music doesnt sync even though it shows the device is connected. When i go to play with the settings to manually sync, it asks if i want to restore the ipod.
    What do i do?

  • My "Library" is missing in Finder. How do I get it to show up?

My "Library" is not showing up when I bring up Finder. I was able to find the Library by Shift/Command/G while in Finder. When I found it, the word "Library" was greyed out and would not let me access it. However, when I dragged it to the sidebar, i can now access it.
How do I get the Library to show up where it is supposed to?
When I click on "Get Info" about the Library, it is greyed out there as well.
I have a MacBook, and the software is up to date on Lion.

Okay, I found a solution from another user question. The guess is that Apple did it on purpose so people like me wouldn't mess the library up. lol
It can be accessed by going to Finder, click on the word GO in the Menu/Title Bar at the top of the screen. Then the drop down menu comes up for GO. While the drop down is showing, CLICK AND HOLD OPTION. There you see the Library. However, if you let go of the Option key, Library disappears again.
    Thanks for the help community!!!

  • You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?

Long story short, I made a backup using TimeMachine of my iMac.  I got my MBA which was being repaired and i restored from backup.  Everything works fine, except for iPhoto which is not saying:
"You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?"
    I have OS X 10.7.2 and iPhoto 9.1.4.  I've tried:
    Repairing permissions
Deleting iPhoto, installing agaian, and updating
Repaired iPhoto Library (stays stuck at 98% when rebuilding database)
I've also tried iPhoto Library manager which cannot even see the library
Tried restoring from backup from iPhoto and it messed up library (I still had my backup)
Quite frustrating - any ideas on how to get iPhoto back to life?

Dunno why Software update was not displaying the latest version of iPhoto (9.2.1 as of January 27, 2012)...updating to this has fixed the issue

  • Help: Attach library to template.fmb

    Hi,
We have a set of Forms uses a single template.fmb. The template.fmb has an attached library say, app.pll. We recently add some new procedures in the spec and body of app.pll. It turned out that these changes messed the library procedure call.
We dropped the attached library from the template.fmb and attached app.lib to the FORMS with the issue. It worked and it uses the changes of the updated app.pll.
    Question:
    1. Does this mean that we should not attach library to template.fmb?
    2. Should we re-compile all existing FORMS that use the template.fmb?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If you add procedure and or funtions to a package in your lib, you should add them at the end of the code. Hi Andreas,
I further checked the situation and only found that there are couple of more .pll files at various locations of different versions within compiling scope.
    1. I renamed they all and left only the latest one.
    2. Put .pll and template.fmb together in lib directory within the compiling pass.
It turned out the way of code change need not be at the end of the code.
    Thank you again.
