Messed up screen resolution

Hi everyone,
I have a first-generation Apple TV. I'm using it with an older Sony television (flat-screen, but not LCD or plasma or anything of that nature). I used component cables to connect it to the television. I was once able to see the list of resolutions to select, but must have selected the wrong one; as of now, my screen just flickers up and down in different patterns and I can't get it to work at all. I can't see any options. I've tried resetting, unplugging for 10+ minutes, and nothing works. Any advice?
Thank you,
Shaun

  • My 13" Macbook Pro's screen resolution is messed up.

My 13" Macbook Pro's screen resolution is off. I restarted it yesterday and it has been bad since. For best quality I am having to put it on 1024 x 768 (not stretched) which the highest, but still not as good as original and not full screen. HELP PLEASE!

After about three restarts a new higher reolution option appeared (odd) and it is now fixed.

  • Xorg 1.6, nvidia and screen resolutions

I just upgraded to xorg 1.6 from testing, including the nvidia drivers and kernel from testing.  Everything is working great (and it fixed the libxi keyboard layout problems I was having), except that I can no longer select the screen resolution I want from the nvidia-settings application.  The set of resolutions is very limited and I'm getting a horizontal stretch due to an incorrect aspect ratio.
I've tried manually adjusting the xorg.conf file after saving it in nvidia-settings, but it makes a mess of the file and I couldn't get it working.  Does anybody know how to add screen resolutions into the nvidia-settings application?
    Thank you!

Happened to me with most recent 1.5 update, I downgraded back to previous one to get working again. And now same happened with 1.6, this time I downgrade again without any further testing until someone else gets it solved

  • Change of boot screen resolution after projector connecting

    Hi Guys,
My boot screen's resolution was changed to 800 x 600 when connected to a projector and the screen resolution was returned to the previous set resolution at 1680 x 1050.
However, the resolution of my dock icon was messed up (this can be configured manuall) BUT my boot screen (with the grey apple before getting to the login page) is now at 800 x 600
Can anyone advise how I can set it back to 1680 x 1050 and how to prevent this from happening the next time I plug my MacBook Pro into the projector again?
    Thousand thanks for your help.
    Cheers!

Fixed: reconnected the external display and disconnected it properly.

  • Screen Resolution Troubles After Using HDMI and Converter

After using a StarTech HDMI converter to watch Netflix on my television, the resolution on my macbook pro is messed up. If I close Netflix the resolution returns, but after trying to use other programs like iPhoto and iMovie I ran into the same problem. As soon as I open those apps the resolution gets distorted and the screen is blurry. Like with Netflix, as soon as I close those apps the screen resolution returns to normal. Also every time I connect the converter and HDMI cord from my Macbook Pro to my television the resolution goes blurry, but the resolution is perfect on the television.

  • Default Screen Resolution 15"

What is the default screen resolution for a macbook 15"? I have found that people say 1440x900 but that is not even an option on my computer. Also, my icons on my desktop are miniature. How do I fix that? My screen resolution was fine until I plugged in a doppler, then my screen zoomed in and when I tried to fix it and then unplugged it, it's all messed up.
    Thanks in advance

It might help in Display preferences if you click on Detect Displays first.
To change the size of desktop icons:
Ctrl-click on a clear part of the desktop background.
    Select Show View Options.
Set the icon size, etc to your personal taste.

    Try restore iPad

    Backup before you do it.
Just tried this...did not work. Resolution is still horrible. This is not an issue of it just not looking smooth or sharp.  It's so much worse than that.  It was actually fine right after the update.  The next morning when I turned it on it was messed up.

  • Cannot change screen resolution on an Ultra 5 using m64config

I have an Ultra 5 with Solaris 2.6 connected to a Xerox XR6-19Dw 19" widescreen monitor with 1440x900 pixels. This workstation was set up a long time ago, so I do not know exactly how it has been set up. The screen resolution is set to 1280x1024x60 and it looks very blurry due to the mismatch between LCD pixels and the resolution setting. First I tried m64config -res 1440x900x76 try. This just turns the screen all white, luckily it reverts to the old setting after 10 seconds. Then just for fun I tried m64config -res 1280x1024x60. This also turned the screen all white. I have heard there is also a way to set the screen resolution using the boot prom, but that this is not necessary because m64config should work. It is very important that I do not mess up this workstation, but the eyestrain is a big problem. Is there a safe way to fix this?

Get a different monitor. Use one that is far less capable and has an old-style 4:3 screen ratio (not a wide screen).
The integrated graphics of the Ultra5/Ultra10 platform has only 4MB of frame buffer RAM and defaults to Sun's screen output of 1152x900 at 66Hz refresh. In fact, very early Ultra 5 systems had only 2MB of frame buffer RAM for the integrated graphics. The hardware is incapable of providing anything like what you are asking for.
If you don't care about color depth, the 1280x1024 resolution you currently see is the highest you're going to get. There is absolutely no chance for any wide-screen settings. If you ever hope for 24bit color, you will have to go down to the 1152x900 setting or more probably down to 1024x768.
You're system is a design from 1997 that first shipped to paying customers in 1998.
I think you are hoping for too much out of that dinosaur.

when a program changes the screen resolution, the screen gets messed up,
I see only stripes and only a restart can get it back working (or suspend to disk).

I plugged an external monitor to the laptop and it works,
the laptop screen is full of lines and the 2nd monitor shows what the laptop screen should normally also show

    in linux:
this can be also seen when changing from the xwindow mode in linux back to tty(1-6)

It looks like a hardware problem, but could it be just a wrong bios setting?
    What can I do?

  • Screen Resolution Issue upon Install

    Howdy,
I just installed Arch for the first time (after using Ubuntu for a few years) and I'm having a problem. For some reason, it is messing up the screen resolution after rebooting the system. It occurs every time, and the text appears to both wrap around the monitor from the middle and extend beyond the bottom of the screen. The error is reproducable; when I boot up an Ubuntu live-cd, I get the same issue when trying to set my screen resolution to 1280x800. Every mode below that works just fine.
I tried a bunch of different things with respect to the screen resolution, but no matter what I set "vga=" to, I can't get it to display properly. X will open just fine, but with the same issue. For reference, here are the specs of my computer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu … ct=3686683
Also, I am using the x86_64 install, though it happened with the i686 one as well.
Any help is appreciated, and though I will do what I can, it will be hard for me to post anything from arch since I can't see much.
    Thank you in advance

Are you using any DE? Does it happen even before you install X?

  • How to set my optimal screen resolution?

My 2 year old was playing with my iMac G5 and messed up the resolution setting. I have managed to restore it something that looks okay, but am not certain what the optimum is. In System Preferences/Displays I have it set to 1600x1200 60Hz, which I suspect is more pixels than this 3.5 year old 17' iMac has. If I go to About this Mac/More Info... I see the iMac resolution says 1440x900 (this is not one of the choices in System Preferences/Displays) and the VGA Display says 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz which I wonder is for any external display or something. Anyhow, any way to discover and set the optimum resolution?

If you have a 17" iMac, then the optimal resolution for it's display is most certainly 1440*900. Regarding the external display, you'll have to check the manual or on the internet.
Your model of iMac only lets you mirror the image on iMac's display. Did you install 'Screen Spanning Doctor' for extra functionality?

  • Swing Layout for different screen resolution

    Hi All,
I am developing an application which will always run in a FULL SCREEN mode.
I intend to make it working on all screen sizes (resoultions) and on different OS and devices.
Since I am new to Swing, could anyone of you suggest a good layout manager to manage the components?
I am using NetBeans 6.8 (which uses a GroupLayout) for designing the GUI but when I change the screen resolution, the arrangement is all messed up.
Also, I am not able to design my application's GUI using NetBeans GUI builder as there is noway I can get an idea of how things will look like in the EXTENDED_BOTH state.
It will be very helpful if anyone could suggest..
    Thanks!

The entire point of Swing LayoutManagers is to get a (reasonably) consistent layout across different resolutions, window sizes, platforms, etc. Of course, different window sizes and aspect ratios will affect things slightly, but any LayoutManager properly used will do the job you're describing.
As for which LayoutManager to use, I think that's a misleading question because it's not uncommon to use multiple LayoutManagers for a single screen. But in my experience it's possible to do 95% of what you want using GridBagLayout and a properly nested hierarchy of JPanels. GridBagLayout is a pain to get used to (caution against re-using GridBagConstraints), but once you do it's amazing what you can get out of it.

  • [SOLVED] How to reset screen resolution?

    Hello,
I am new to Linux and have been installing Arch Linux closely following the beginner's guide.  However, when I got to Step 3: Update system, I turned the system off for the evening and when I restarted this morning, my screen resolution has changed and I cannot see the first few characters of the command line and the bottom line is not visible at all.  At that point I have to switch to another console (Alt F2) so I can see what I'm typing.  I changed the vga=773 to 769 and 771 in /boot/grub/menu.lst, but it doesn't fix the problem.
How can I get the screen resolution lowered so I can see my command line?  This is my HTPC, so I don't want to mess with the screen positioning and get that out of whack for the other functions it provides.
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Thanks both for the replies.
I should have mentioned that I am connected to my Samsung 42" TV via HDMI/DVI, not VGA.  Neither of my video cards have a VGA connector, only DVI.  So I don't have an Auto function for that mode, and looking through the menus, I cannot find a screen position function, only mode a selection (16:9, 4:3, etc) which do not help.  Even setting it at 4:3 leaves the image clipped so that I cannot see the extremities of the screen that is being produced.  When I first boot up, it is in a low resolution that is 100% viewable, but after all the daemons get loaded up and before I am prompted for a login, the resolution changes to a higher setting and I loose the edges.  Shouldn't there be a way to force it to a lower resolution, like when it first starts up?
This is making it extremely difficult to enter the commands I need to set up Arch on this PC.

  • Making dreamweaver site compatible with respect to various screen resolutions

I want to make dream weaver site compatible with respect to
    1) various screen resolutions lie 800*600, 1024*768 etc
    2) various monitor sizes...12", 15", 17" etc
    3) the site should look same in different browsers IE,
    Mozilla, Safari, Crome
what changes do i need to make?

Dreamweaver *is* compatible with all resolutions. It's the
    code that your
layout design has produced in DW that may not be. As has
    already been
mentioned, you need to determine the smallest browser
    viewport in which you
want your page rendered without horizontal scrollbars, and
    design your page
elements accordingly (and again, this is not a resolution or
    screen size
    issue).
    > 3) the site should look same in different browsers IE,
    Mozilla, Safari,
    > Crome
You will *never* achieve pixel perfect rendering in every
    brower but you can
come close. The most important first step to that would be to
    create pages
    that validate here -
    http://validator.w3.org
If you cannot do that, then your page rendering will be a
    mess across the
    board.
