Messenger on mac problems

Just want to know how i go about adding a display pic onto my messenger account. I can log in and out no problem but for some reason cannot open any pic to use as my display pic. What pic format is required? and is there a difference between Microsoft messenger for mac and msn messenger for mac? I have microsoft messenger

And given the popularity of mac, it is sad that messenger for mac lacks a few important features that can only be found in msn live. I suggest you give adium a try.

Problems with updating MSN Messenger for Mac

Install the MSN Messenger for Mac from Application. When I signed in, a message pop up asking me to get a new updated version or else I could not continue to use the MSN Messenger. During downloading, another message pop up saying that the Messenger.bin is neither compressed .... and I could not go any further,and as such could not use MSN Messenger. What's the problem here?

MSN messenger 7.0.1 for mac, problems ( don't know where to post, sorry!)

Hi everyone, thanks for helping
I am using the white 2.4 macbook and I downloaded the msn messenger 7.0.1.
I discovered that sometimes, when I talk to people ( so far talked to people using windows only), I cannot receive what they say, and I need to log in using a pc to say what they say, sometimes.
Why is this happening? any clue?

This is not a Mac problem. It's a known issue (although not recognized by Microsoft), it's just a flaw on the Windows Live network. it happens on the Windows client too time to time. The exact reasons are unknown.

Yahoo messenger on mac version

i just wanna know how to run a mac version of yahoo messenger. im a new user of mac thats why i dont know how to run ym using mac. i already downloaded mac version of yahoo and i can sign in as my yahoo id, but the problem is i cannot make a call, play a games, share a photo and even my cam cannot be viewed and i also cant view the cam of my chatmate. there are many features of yahoo messenger in windows version that mac version doesnt have. i also cannot connect to a chat room. do i really need to install a parallel desktop for me to run the yahoo messenger smoothly.
hope some one who knows how to use mac help me about this issue.

I just tested Messenger for Mac, which I just downloaded because of your question. I had no problem getting my recently bought Macbook laptop with Leopard to engage and send a webcam picture to a Yahoo messenger account using Windows XP yahoo messenger on the other account's computer. I did not test all the features, just typing an IM and sending a webcam picture from my built in laptop webcam on this Macbook over to a computer with Windows XP. All I had to do after installing and logging in was go to WEBCAM / Start Broadcast etc. It worked fine.
I used the Mac Leopard OS on the Macbook and do not yet have windows added to my macbook but am thinking about how to get it because of the need to occasionally use Internet Explorer on certain websites.

Unable to quit Messenger for Mac

Hey there,
I hope this is the right forum for this question.
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.3 but I'm pretty new to Mac's so even basic stuff seems difficult to me apparently - like software-updating. To install the software-upgrades I need to restart the computer, but when I try that it tells me that that is impossible because MSN Messenger for Mac is running. Now the problem is, that I can't shut down that program. I've tried closing it - doesn't work, just freezes. I've tried uninstalling it by dragging it to the Trash-bin which doesn't work because MSN is open. Most recent I've tried AppZapper to uninstall it, with same results as every other try.
I'm running Messenger for Mac version 8 Beta.
Is there a way for me to uninstall it that I haven't thought of? Or any other way to deal with this problem?

Leopard 10.5.5 - Download Messenger for Mac

Hi everybody,
I have got the last mac's version, I tried to install Messenger for mac, mercury messenger, and amsn, and none works ! all refuse to login in.
What can I do?
Is it a problem with all 10.5.5 mac?? Because skype works well, so I don't understand why msn doesn't work...

What are your Firewall settings? (System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall)
If the firewall is set to Allow Essential Services, you will need to change the settings to _Set access for specific services and applications_ and then add those applications to allow incoming connections.

Log in issues with messenger for Mac

Hi,
I've been unable to log on to messenger for a while. At first I thought that it might have something to do with the version I had installed so I installed Messenger for Mac 8 Beta. However, I still get the exact same message as I did when using the old verson. I'm being told that either I'm not connected to the internet (which I undoubtedly am) or the services is unavailable. Then I tried to see the there was an error in my username og password, and erraced the preferences files so that I had to run the set up again, but still no result.
Any advice would be more than welcome.

I am having the same problem. The support center is aware of the problem and they are working on it. They say it is only affecting Macbook Pros. My ipad facetime is working fine.

HT1515 Just installed Airport Express on Mac 10.6.8 Can't see base station. Hard Reset the Airport. Rebooted machine. How can I tell if this is a Mac problem or Airport Express Problem?

I see plenty of Airport networks in the neighborhood. How can I tell if I have a Mac problem or an Airport Express problem? Airport Express blinks Amber.

Obviously, I'm still using ethernet to be able to reply to this.
Alright, use the same ethernet cable to plug directly into the airport express. This will FORCE the airport utility to now see it regardless of weak signals & interference. You can set it up that way.
BTW, what is the original intent on the express?

I am running on OSx 10.6.8 using a HP officejet 6000 printer. On a 8.5x11 paper, I cannot print closer than 5/8" at bottom. Images or type cuts off at that point. HP says it's an mac problem. I tried changing evry possible print setting. Am I missing somt

Yes you are unfortunately you as the consumer are caught in the middle. I totally disagree with what HP told you, they supply the print drivers to Apple, Apple doesn't write printer drivers that I know of. Look in the print settings to see if you can go below 5/8", I know I can with my HP printers (Laserjet 1012, Color Laserjet 2600N, OfficeJet 7410 & OfficeJet 7700 series) so I'm sure the issue is specific to the OJ6000 series.

Pearson put out a tech note on this today - the new versions of Java are what's causing the problem. If you can use Time Machine to rollback java prior to a java 7 or 1.6.0_37 version that will get you going again. I've been searching for hours for a place to download the older version but it seems Apple's site and Oracle all only have the latest release. Still trying to see if I have a copy downloaded on a system that hasn;t been updated to copy off to a network drive or usb and install the older version on to systems.

An update to Java for Mac OS X was released on October 16, 2012. An issue has been identified with this Java update (Java for OS X 2012-006) which prevents teachers from launching PowerTeacher Gradebook.
Teachers using PowerTeacher Gradebook should avoid taking this Java update to version 1.6.0_37 until notified that PowerTeacher Gradebook has been certified with this latest version of Java 1.6 for Mac OS X. PowerTeacher Gradebook will continue to work on Mac OS X workstations with Java version 1.6.0_35.
Additional communication will be provided once a workaround is identified or an updated version of PowerTeacher Gradebook is available.

Now I have installed paralle desktop on my mac, but I cantn used the macbook web can.
Will I need buy a new web cam?
