Messges from my iphone and ipad appear as different senders

I recently got an iphone and i just started using the Messages app on my ipad. I noticed that when i send a message, the recipient sees messages from my ipad in a different conversation than lnes sent from my iphone even though they are synced with icloud. How can I make them both appear like messages coming from my phone? I think i can make ones from my phone look like my ipad by sending messages through ly apple id but i dont want to have all of my old texts in one conversation and have new texts in another if that is possible. I am using an iphone 4 with ios6 and ipad 1 with ios5, all with the latest updates. Thanks!

You are probably starting new iMessage conversations from your phone number on your iPhone.  However, addressing iMessage conversations from your phone number on an iPad requires iOS 6.  Since you have an iPad 1 you won't be able to do this as the highest iOS is 5.1.1.  Your only option to keep them the same would be to change your iPhone settings to start new conversations from the same email address as your iPad is using  (in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive).  If you do this, be sure the people you are texting have this email address for you in their contacts so they can identify the message as coming from you.
