Messy monitor

I have a mac mini and am using a Samsung Syncmaster 940 MW as my monitor. i am new to the mac world and for some reason everytime my mac starts up the display loses resolution and seems to go to a much lower setting. If I unplug the monitor cable and plug it back in the display goes to a regular good looking display.
Is there someway that i can keep it on a high res setting without having to unplug and replug the monitor?

Ive re installed Compressor and its failing to open, it crashes stright away. Exporting fro FCP to Compressor results in a message saying Compressor not properly installed. I wonder what this means but searching on here has not revealed anything.

• Field problems on ref monitor

hi there,
don't know if you guys can help me with this, but i try.
i use a Eizo Foris FX2431 as a preview monitor (just couldn't afford a high class one)
i still try to find out how much i can use it as a reference monitor.
one major issue i have is that everytime i reverse a shot it looks very messy, jittery on the foris
(frame blending is turned off).
that happens with PAL or NTSC footage alike( all DV)
do i have a fieldproblm here and i simply can't reverse the shot with this footage, or is it the foris monitor that gives out a wrong picture!?
the monitor is connected through a matrox mxo2 mini with hdmi. it happens on 50 and 60hz.
de-interlazing didn't make a difference.
thanks a lot for your help.
andy

wow, thanks, that works perfectly fine!!
funny though, i have never noticed that before and never got any complains too.
only since i have this monitor it came noticable.
looks like it was a good investment after all!!
many thanks

• Problems centralizing windows on dual monitor

Hi all,
every time I create a JFrame on my aplication, I use the method setLocationRelativeTo trying to centralize it.
I used to pass null to this method every time I call it, but recently I got a dual monitor and discovered that passing null to it makes the new frame open half in the left monitor and half in the right monitor.
Most of the times, it opens centralized in the primary display, but sometimes things get messy.
Does anybody knows how can I make frames open on the same display the application is showing?

Take at look at this class (and the example that is given)

• How to keep Finder's Icon View messy and disorganised (in a good way)

Hi everyone.
I'm doing creative musical work on my Mac, and the way I've been working on ideas is by placing .aif files and other folders in loosely organised clumps on the desktop (it's got a bit of a mindmapping vibe to it, I've included an example picture). However, I'm on a Macbook Pro with an external monitor, and plugging and unplugging the monitor messes up the layout of my icons, so I can't use that.
I tried doing the same thing in a folder in Finder set to open/browse in Icon View, but this is problematic too. Sometimes I'll save a file into this particular folder and it'll suddenly revert to several columns of alphabetically organised icons. Argh, this is not what I want!
I understand my plight is a bit niche, but here's my question: is there a way to guarantee that if I drag icons in Finder around, they will retain their positions no matter what? This 'messy' way of organising things is a big part of my creative process, so when it suddenly 'organises' itself without warning it really bums me out. Could it have something to do with the .DS_Store file?
Thank you.

• U430 Touch and external monitors

Hi,
I am an absolute computer novice.
I have a new Lenovo U430 Touch laptop. I use it for traveling for work, but when at the office I would like to have bigger external monitors (preferrably 2).
What would be the best way to connect 2 external monitors to the U430 touch?
Thank you!

All I can think of is this if you want more than 1 monitor connected:
HDMI to 2 HDMI

Then 2 HDMI to 2 DVI
[img]http://img.misco.eu/Resources/images/Modules/InformationBlocks/1210/SRH/SRH-2/202509-startech-hdmi-d...
It's messy but I can't think of anything else that would work.

• Monitor J2EE stack like dpmon or msmon on ABAP side

I am attempting to monitor the J2EE stack and want to know if there is a way to get a return code back.
Is there a command much like jcmon that would give me back a status of 1 or 0 to see if it is up. I can go to jcmon and then select a number to get the running status however I cannot interpret that with a single unix command. I know if I see dispatcher server and SDM all running that in all likelyhood the engine is up.
If jcmon is the only tool, how can I in a script get the status of my server0 dispatcher and SDM...it seems cockeyed and messy to do this..
I know to go to DN:50x00 to check and see manually but I nned an SAP command to give me aq return code for engine status.
Does anyone have any idea what I could use. It seems like the ABAP stack has a number of monitors to help with this task but I can't find any on the java side.
Thanks much,
Mikie

Hello Mikie,
If I understand you correctly you are looking for a way to check if the J2EE Engine is running using a script. The easiest way is to use the ps –ef | grep jla command. It will return all jlaunch processes, one for every node (server<n>, dispatcher and SDM).  The command returns something like that:
sr2adm    7131  6976  0 15:17 ?        00:00:28 /usr/sap/SR2/JC00/exe/jlaunch pf=/usr/sap/SR2/SYS/profile/SR2_JC00_support6 -DSAPINFO=SR2_00_dispatcher -nodeId=0 -file=/usr/sap/SR2/JC00/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties -syncSem=5013577 -nodeName=ID7416300 -jvmOutFile=/usr/sap/SR2/JC00/work/jvm_dispatcher.out -stdOutFile=/usr/sap/SR2/JC00/work/std_dispatcher.out -locOutFile=/usr/sap/SR2/JC00/work/dev_dispatcher -mode=JCONTROL pf=/usr/sap/SR2/SYS/profile/SR2_JC00_support6
As you could see there is a lot of information and you could be more specific when grep and distinguish the jlaunch processes.
One exception when this will not work is if the J2EE Engine is hanging. If you wish to avoid that you could use script that sends telnet request to the http port and checks the result. Something like:
telnet localhost 50000
GET / HTTP/1.0
If everything works fine this should return:
HTTP/1.1 302 Found
If the J2EE Engine is hanging the port will not accept your request.
Regards, Ventsi

• Monitoring Transactions by name

Hi,
when monitoring transactions by name, the name is the class and method
of the called ejb. This does not make a sense if the same physical bean
is deployed several times with different jndi names. Is there any
possibility or plan to distinguish transactions rather by their logical
name (jndi name or name in the deployment descriptor) than by the
classname?
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Rogerio
I've spent the day investigating the same thing and it appears it is simply how the ALSB ReportingMDB gets invoked. Every time it checks for a message it creates a new Transaction and then rolls it back without so much as a whimper. I have no idea it would work like this but I've got about 12 OSB installations and they are all doing the same thing with no clue as to why it is behaving this way.
I think it is messy but it doesn't seem to be an issue in and of itself.
Cheers
Brock

• [solved] Fluxbox gets "messy" after upgrade

Today I updated Xorg (pacman -Syu), and for some reason it, sort of, breaks Fluxbox. I say sort of, because it does not break it completely.
Immediately after the update, the left and right mousebutton stopped working; however the middle mouse button did work. I ran nvidia-xconfig, and then the right button started working again. With this right mouse button I can start the menu. However, the menu for some reason is very "wide", and only a part of the fluxbox menu is "accessible" (most menus simply do not open), And the desktop gets "messy" as well, with parts of the screen changing but other parts not (I can' really describe it better).
Fortunately I can issue command, and I have a bash prompt, so the computer is useable...
I tried to change from nvidia driver to the nouveau, and both have the same problems...

edit: There's something else I noticed. When I start firefox from aterm, it starts fine, but when I use the fluxbox "Run program" option, firefox does not start. And this is the origin of the error of .xsession-errors...

Hi!, I have similar problem with kde 4.3.3 and nvidia. It takes a long time to respond when I click on the KMenu,  press Alt F2, open yakuake by pressing F12...
Is this issue related to this.
I found this problem today (yesterday I did pacman -Syu and it upgraded the xorg-server)
Many thanks

• Monitor doesnt wake up when booting first time, have to restart - k9n ultra-2f

So, I have few problems. The main problem is in da topic:
I bought an used computer about two weeks ago. I installed windows and all drivers etc.
With the old bios (cant remember what version) all was okay except always in boot an error message was shown that said something that the proseccor could not be recognised but the processor was still shown right in My Computer.. :s
Because of that error message i decided to update bios. I updated it throught live update 3 to v.3.6 and now i dont get the processor error message but the monitor doesnt wake up in the boot.. I have to press reset button and then when the monitor wakes up there comes an error message what says something like "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the defauls settings". Then I press any key and windows boots normally.
I reupdated v.3.6 bios today manually from floppydisk but the problem didnt go anywhere.
I have searched this forum but cant find same kind of problem posted.
Can somebody please help me with this and tell what could be the problem?
Also when booting second time so that the monitor wakes up, i get four alert sounds.. What could those mean?
My computer is pretty powerful (amd athlon 64 5600+ x2, club3d gf 7950gt, 2gb 533mhz..) It should be very smooth and fast but it often appears slowliness and ..how can i say it.. temporary tilting? :p And the 3dmark03 benchmark gives me 19465 points, it should be giving much more. The computer is clean, no viruses or adware. What could cause this?
Sorry for the messy message and bad english and im not really good at computers

Thanks for the reply.
I didnt have this issue before updating BIOS..
And i didnt find jbat1 from my k9n ultra-2f. I didnt even find it from the mb manual. Theres only a Clear CMOS Button: SW2. I pushed it few times and then i rebooted my computer. At the first time the monitor woke up instantly and i was like wohooooo but then i shut down the computer and booted it again.. The monitor didnt wake up before pressing the reset button, the same problem was back.
I think that the SW2 button reset the bios settings like the jbat1 would do, because i had disabled the big logo at the boot and after pressing SW2 the logo was back.
Then i set the memory vcore to 2.0V but it didnt help. Infact i think the computer had come a bit more slowly.. :s I think it may be the RAM what makes my comp so slow... dunno.

• Monitoring Multiple Streams

Hi All
A quick question
I have a very large file on which I do some processing
As a result of the file size I have 4 InputStreams which read in
from various sections of the file in diffferent threads
Is there anyway to monitor the progress of all the inputstreams as a whole ???
I have used ProgressMonitorInPutStream to check the progress of the largest section of the
file - but I would like to be able to check the progress of the other streams as well
Its a Bit messy to have 4 progress monitors on screen at once is there any way I can just
have one progress bar and still process the files using multiple threads and streams ?????
Thanks for any help !
Harshad

Its a Bit messy to have 4 progress monitors on screen at onceThe documentation I can find for ProgressMonitor is not consistent, so I'm slightly confused, but off the top of my head one hacky way of doing this is to have a single ProgressMonitorInputStream which has as its InputStream a stream to which your threads copy all the stuff they've read. How this will affect performance, I don't know.

• Installing Leopard using my second monitor?

I'm trying to help my mother install leopard. I got her a Powerbook a while back, but in the interim her cat knocked her computer off the table and screwed up monitor (thankfully that was all!). It was too much for us to get it repaired, so I bought her a monitor keyboard and mouse to use, so now she basically has a "messy" desktop computer. (I cringe, but she loves it..).
The problem is, even when I have the second monitor set as the "main" monitor, the installer will only run on the broken laptop monitor... it does not want to run on the working monitor! I can't move the installer window or anything, and I can't see the prompts to get the installation going...
Any ideas other than getting her laptop fixed?

Hey -
I talked to someone in an apple store, and they said it is possible if you have a second apple computer and a firewire cable. Apparently you can load an OS using Target Disk Mode (hold down the "T" key on the laptop with the broken screen during startup), and put the install DVD into the working Apple computer. If the computers are connected via Firewire cable, the hard drive for the broken screen laptop should show up as a hard drive on the working computer. Run the installer on the working computer, and just select the hard drive of the broken one as the destination drive to install on, and apparently it'll work great.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to make sure this works myself as I am back from visiting my mother and did not have a firewire cable to use while I was there.... I will try it the next time I visit, but the good news is the employee said there should be information on their site for how to Install an OS using Target disk mode, and he was somewhat right. I found this support post that should be helpful to you.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If you could post up your results when you're done and let me know if it worked, I'd appreciate it. My mother needs a new computer in the near future anyway, but she only uses it for email and the internet so it would be much more cost effective to just keep her current laptop up to date, rather than buy her a new iMac!
Good luck!
(P.S. I'm not sure what YOUR reasoning is behind not fixing your laptop monitor, but I did some research and you can find the necessary monitor part on eBay, and bring it in to an Apple certified shop, or chance it yourself, and according to my estimates, the cost was cut in half or more! I'm fairly tech savvy, so I would've attempted it myself, but the eBay post I found offered the screen, casing, and instructions for about $400... that's much better than the $1300 quote I got from Apple! Even if you brought it to a shop and only paid for "labor" it would still be less than if they got the part for you and marked it up.)

• System MOnitor Like gnome system monitor but not gnome?

Is there one?
Not kdes version either, trying to keep a system Gnome or KDE free if i can.

smakked wrote:Yeah conky is ok if you want to see it all teh time, it can get messy if you have alot of info going on.
It doesn't have to be placed on the desktop. I'm actually currently working on getting a config that is more in line with gnome's monitor than with most conky configs (though of course I'm limited because I can't have tabs). I'll post it here when I finish it, and maybe update this post if I remember to.

• Thunderbolt monitor mail sounds

When I plug in my retina MBP to the 27" thunderbolt monitor, every mac mail sound since the last time it was plugged in plays in succession.  Sometimes this is 5 mins of ding (incoming) & whoosh (outgoing) mail sounds.  What a very peculiar bug.
Anyone else getting this?
I have read a few posts stating it was mountain lion bug that was fixed last month ( Aug 2012 ) however all of my devices are up to date and it is still happening.

David: Thanks for this info as I will try in future next time if needed.
I don't know if it began with new updates to quicktime or iTunes, or when Yasu Cleaner froze during cache cleaning, but after restarting, then had probs with Keychain access to mail not working along with sounds, then it got really messy! (It couldn't find keychains.login)
What I ended up doing and it now all works(sounds and keychains, etc) was:
-Thankfully I had backed up my keychain folder before all these problems, (all should do this if they haven't!) backup folder location:("~" is home folder)
(~/library/keychains folder)
-2nd went in same orig. area for keychains folder and deleted 2 files found in there ..one was some login and think other one said some microsoft certificates file
-3rd copied saved file from my BACKUPs folder("keychains folder") to original location
-4th restarted computer
-5th ran Disk Utility- repair permissions
Now: ALL SOUND BACK and ALL PASSWORDS in MAIL, and I didn't even have to re-enter them!

• List what monitors and overrides a specific server have

Hi,
I really need help with this!
I am migrating servers from a very messy scom 2007r2 enviroment.
I have installed a new scom 2012r2 enviroment and are trying to import server by server. I need to have all monitors and overrides listed soo I know what have been monitored before soo I can set it up in the new enviroment also.
I can not import whole management packs because then I have all the mess in the new enviroment aswell.
Soo I need to get a list like this:
Server1
Exchange 2007 monitor
Custom monitor process lanman.exe
Custom monitor service Print spoolsv
Override no alerts on print spoolsv
Is this possible to do? Please please help me!

For SCOM 2007 R2, Microsoft had develop a tool called Effective Configuration Viewer that can displays the set of rules and monitors that are running on a computer and can export the result into xml file. You can download the file from

Not really easy to do, although it helps to be very familiar with the data.
You might be able to estimate the amount of data changed by monitoring v$transaction for the transaction executed in the update (assuming it's a single transaction).
v$transactin.used_urec is the number of undo records generated by the transaction, and each record corresponds to single data block change. Counting changes can be messy, though.
If you change a single row in a block, then that's one block change.
If the change results in an index update that's two extra changes - one to delete the old index entry, one to insert the new.
However, there are mechanism that make multiple modifications to a single block as a single change (some array processing will do this)
So you need to know something about the pattern of change and the mechanism involved before you can be very accurate.
Of course, with 11g and the relevant licence you can use OEM to watch the action on the execution plan in real time through the new SQL monitoring feature - but that presumably isn't something you have.
