Met with a white screen after installing Snow Leopard on Macbook (mid 2007)

After installing Snow Leopard on my Mid 2007 mac book pro I was prompted to restart. I restarted and the computer turned on but only got as far as a white screen that stays white with no further activity for an indefinite amount of time. I've restarted the computer a few times with the same results. How do I fix this and get past the white screen?!

Try booting into "verbose mode".  That will cause a series of messages to appear on the screen during the boot process.  When that stalls (presuming it does so), write down the last few messages and post them as a reply.
You might also try running the diagnostics that came with that Mac.  Depending on the model, you can boot with the "system restore disc" in the machine with the "D" key held down to run those.  Run the diagnostics several times.

  • Gray screen while installing snow leopard on macbook unibody (2009 )

Hi , I have a unibody macbook (2009), i recently erased my HD after making a backup to renew my mac OS , so i started by installing OS 10.5 (delivered with my mac) , then i made all possible updates , and tried to install Snow leopard from a DVD i purchased a year ago seperately . but when in try installing the OS 10.6 , i get stuck into the famous "gray screen" ( and sometimes a blue one ), i tried nearly all answers around this issue proposed by apple but no one appears to work and i still get the gray screen ( just while i try to install the snow leopard , and if not , the system boots properly into OS 10.5.8 ) .
i have to mention that i recently upgraded my RAM from 2 Go to 8 Go .
    So any suggestions here?
    Thank you.

  • Please HELP!! MacBook stuck on "Select your Keyboard" screen after installing Snow Leopard on a brand new hard drive!

Hello, I just recently replaced my internal hard drive in my MacBook [from a 250gb to a blank/empty 750gb]. I managed to get OS X Snow Leopard installed with the DVD. Setup seems to run fine at first, I get the screen in space with the welcome message different languages while music plays. Then I'm asked to select my country, then here is my problem- the next screen asks me to "Select Your Keyboard", I select & click "Continue" button, then my Mac is just showing the spinning beachball & it stayed that way all night =( I don't know how to fix this. Anyone experience this or have any solutions for me? I'd appreciate any help! Thank you! [I've been googling since yesterday with no luck on finding an answer].

It's diagnostic software. It's supposed to help you find problems. I don't think anyone is making any software yet that fixes hardware problems.

would lead me to think it's the logic board. On older MacBook Pro's both the USB I/O ports and the keyboard/trackpad are fed out of an integrated USB controller integrated into the South Bridge I/O controller. On newer models, the USB ports come out of an integrated North/South bridge controller and the keyboard/trackpad are handled by an SMC controller, which itself interfaces with the I/O controller. All of these items are on the logic board, and they're all unrepairable.
...unless of course the "internal drive [that] is installed in a cheap external case" is itself causing the problems. Another thing to try might be a different USB port, if you haven't done so already.
I didn't know the price for Scannerz went up. I could have sworn I only paid 30-some bucks for it. Maybe it was on sale at the time. I don't remember.
    In any case, good luck.

  • Time Machine white background after installing Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I need bit of advise regarding Snow Leopard Upgrade. I recently upgrade mac 10.5 to 10.6 (Snow Leopard), when I do my normal backup using Time Machine, the background is white. I have restarted my Macbook and also read some of the Mac Forums. I've even followed the steps read in one of the post.
If Barry's suggestion doesn't work, try these:
Do a Repair Disk (not permissions) on your TM drive, via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
Re-select your TM drive via TM Preferences > Change Disk.
If you're using Spaces, try disabling it, at least temporarily.
If you have any sort of video out cable, especially HDMI, try disconnecting it, at least temporarily.
Do a "complete reset" of TM, as in item #B3 Time Machine - Troubleshooting User Tip
However that doesn't work either. Could it be a bug or if there's something I should do to bring time machine back to normal? I like the warp !!!! Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forums. That was me.
Since then, we've learned that this can be caused by a corrupted Finder preference file, so delete the file:
    +*<your home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist+*
and try again. You'll have to Restart the Finder (use the Force-Quit) menu, and re-enter it's preferences.

  • After installing Snow Leopard problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts

I've never really have a problem with any of apple's products until now.
After installing Snow Leopard I've found problems with using any of my Helvetica fonts,
which is a BIG problem if you work in DTP or print. You CAN'T remove the system version of Helvetica, and replace it with your own anymore.
Also Flash CS4 seems to be a dead duck, as after about 5-6 seconds of loading the program it crashes with a "KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE".
    <title edited by host>

Thanks Tom but the original post title was "Work in DTP, don't install snow leopard", but of course apple were unhappy with the title. I know the issue/problem has been discussed for months, the real problem is that it shouldn't be a problem which everyone has to find work arounds for.
After 4 days of playing about, I've finally got flash CS4 working and Quarkxpress was also a big problem for a few months. Printer description (PPD) files which snow leopard doesn't like, but worked in tiger & leopard.....means I can't use my two A3 inkjets for proofing anymore.
I'm just disappointed by snow leopard

    Hi applecore_eater,
When Leopard came out, machines were shipping with Tiger for 3-5 months after it's release. So the fact that you bought a machine with Leopard still installed is not uncommon, especially considering we're not even a month into release. Matter of fact, I'd be surprised to see a lot of machines (unless CTO) that are coming with Snow Leopard.
The battery issue is not specific to Snow Leopard or the MacBook Air. I've deployed SL to about 15-20 MacBook Airs and all of them have been perfectly fine (batteries).

  • MacBook Pro won't wake from sleep after installing Snow Leopard

If my MacBook Pro is running while closed with an external display and I unplug it from the display it goes to sleep - as indicated by the white light and the front pulsing. If I then open the MacBook the display remains blank and it is completely unresponsive to any keys or track pad input.
The only thing it responds to at that point is holding the power button down until it powers down and then restarting - loosing all work in progress at that point.
Before installing Snow Leopard the Mac would wake reliably when opened from this state.

I think I may have found the fix for this. My MacBook Pro was dying in its sleep every time (after installing Snow Leopard), whether it went to sleep automatically or I used a Hot Corner. I went into System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver and changed the screen saver to Flurry, and it works now. I had had it set to a folder containing a single .pct file that I had created.
Good advice Mike! When in doubt check the ScreenSaver settings.
Definitely seems that it has a problem with that pic... In my case, selecting any images instead of the default setting (no screensaver) seems to have cured my non waking issue on my early Macbook Pro in Snow Leopard.
My original problem was that no amount of trackpad input woke it, but the space bar did. The space bar seemed to wake it up with the previous Screen Saver setting. Now trackpad wakes it up (even from total sleep as well as screen saver), too. Might be nice to know about if this is an intended 'feature' as a security trick. Otherwise I consider this a bug.
My vote is that it's a bug.

  • Can't install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro MC700 - 3 beeps after installer starts.

can't install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro MC700 - 3 beeps after installer starts (10.6.3 retail). Lion installer starts normally. What's a problem?

I have the same trouble, I try installing rEFI but when I try start my Pro from DVD doesn't recognize.
Can I start from USB Memory? with files from SL DVD? or have some thing else?
I have original DVD of SL 10.6.3, if I buy the latest stable version, can I install? or the EFI firmware with Lion change again?
I try to use Lion, more than one week but I can't, and some app that I use for my profession, doesn't work, I really need downgrade to SL.
    Really Thanks for any help.

  • Hard drives damaged after installing Snow Leopard :(

After installing Snow Leopard all software seemed to work fine. Then I found out that e-sata doesn't seem to work well with Snow.
I've tried two different e-sata cards, including CalDigit's FASTA-2e, which CalDigit claims works fine with 10.6.
My external enclosure appeared and immediately gave me a kernel panic. I tried several times with different working drives and now they are all heavily damaged. Kernal panic after kernal panic, I am noe having a difficult time accessing the data.
Now here's the strange part...after going back to Leopard 10.5, my internal drives all seemed to be infected as well. After using Disk Warrior and apple's disc utility, I got those working ok.
What could be going wrong here? I installed Snow. It was fast. But it wasn't worth it...at least not yet.
If there's anything else I might be doing wrong or any way to fix these drives now, please let me know.
    Thanks all!

It seems that Sonnet is not yet compatible with Snow Leopard either. That issue was covered here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2114442&tstart=0.
Anyone know if RocketRAID eSATA for Mac works with Snow? Apple sells it...

  • Opening Photo Files in Photo Shop CS3 after installing Snow Leopard.

After installing Snow Leopard I could only open photo files in a Preview mode. I called Adobe and Apple and could not get a solution. So I called my local Mac tech person where I got the answer to my problem. What to do: Right click on an image file icon.(Do not open image.) Then go to: Get info. In the dropdown menu, Open with: Select Adobe Photoshop CS3.app or whatever app you desire. Then click change all. You have to do this just one time for each extention such as jpg, tif, etc. Trust this helps.

To try to address the browser problem, reset Safari and see if that helps. Also, try an alternate browser (I use Firefox that way) to see if the problem is system-wide. Also, there is a Safari forum here:
