Meta Data Will Not Write! I've tried everything...

So, I love LR very much, except for the fact it WILL NOT write metadata. I've done numerous tests with Picasa, IrfanView, and other applications and while other applications successfully write to the IPTC header of the jpg or sidecar, I cannot get LR to write any of the metadata for the life of me. I've turned on and off the "Write XMP" checkbox in the options.
I've waited a substantial amount of time, then checked the file in a reader app and never see any kind of change to the file.
Why won't Lightroom write the metadata through to the file? It reads it in fine, but I cannot get it to update the file.

There's another issue here. Depending on what you're looking at it with, the programs cache. I was going crazy thinking they were not being written by looking with exifer and several other programs. Someone said try Bridge, which I'd never used, and voila, they were there. Bridge ALSO caches, but there is an option to empty the cache for this folder and you have to do that every time you want to check if Lightroom has written something. If you're on Windows, Microsoft Photo Info does display some metadata fields and does not have the caching problem.
In my case, I'm checking dates I'm writing in exifer for Lightroom, since Lightroom can't write capture and digitize dates.

IPod Touch will NOT sync! Have tried EVERYTHING! ... suggestions anyone?

I have no idea what is going on, my iPod touch is only 6 months old and in good condition. I've never dropped or anything like that, no computer crashes or surges that would cause any problems with it, and up until this morning, it has been working fine connecting to my netbook and such, downloading and all that.
I have tried re-installing iTunes TWICE, and it still will not recognize my iPod at all. It will charge it, but just not recognize it. I updated the usb driver and thought that was that problem because it actually seemed like it was out of date and re-started the computer, but it still didn't work.
I have no idea why it all of a sudden is not recognizing my iPod, and could use any suggestions. I really wanted to enjoy using my iPod this Memorial Day Weekend and hope someone can help me.

Jailbroken means to jailbreak it, but I will not go in to detail, as Apple does not allow it. Do not do it if you find out what it is, Apple voids your warenty, and it can go seriously wrong and brick your iPod. Firefox will not start up ive tried everything even uninstalling it and it wont do that either

One of your add-ons might be the culprit. Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If that solves the problem, see [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and possibly [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Will Not Install PLEASE HELP TRIED EVERYTHING

I downloaded from Adobe the Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial directly from Adobe. (BTW I am on Vista 32)
The first time I tried installing, ADBEPHSPCS3_WWE.exe successfully unpacked, I successfully transitioned to the Adobe Photoshop CS3 installation, and it appeared to install. After 30 minutes or so, the installer finished and simply said that shared components had installed but the Photoshop CS3 Component install failed.
I always got in the log Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,version="8.0.50727.163",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18 e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information
This, I know, is everyones typical problem.
I turned off firewall and antivirus.
I uninstalled ALL Adobe and Macromedia programs, including Flash and Acrobat.
I used Windows Install Cleanup Utility to remove them.
I downloaded the CS3 Clear from Adobe and cleared at levels 1, 2, and 3.
I created the Administrator account on my computer and tried everything on the Administrator account.
I tried installing Photoshop CS3 with compatibility mode for XP SP2.
I tried:
1. Open an Administrator command prompt by right clicking on Start -> All
Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and selecting "Run as
Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt
2. In the command prompt, type the command below
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
3. Reboot the machine
I tried:
Get command prompt up. It has to be run with admin rights so save yourself some time and run it this way.........Start/programs/accessories/.....right click command prompt and click run as administrator.
Then paste these commands in 1 after the other
regsvr32 vbscript.dll (THEN PRESS ENTER)
and
regsvr32 jscript.dll (AGAIN PRESS ENTER)
I even tried installing in Safe Mode but the CS3 setup would not initialize.
I do not know what else to do. I have CS2 which I will use, but I was really hoping to move to CS3 which is supposed to be better and faster. Does anyone know anything else to do? I am not a computer noob but I am not about to reinstall Vista. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same predicament and after spend many hours over several days trying a multitude of things I finally found an easy fix (below):

Assuming you have Internet Explorer 7 go to:
Tools/Internet option/Advanced
Click the Reset dialog box. This will bring IE7 back to its default settings. You should reboot your computer. After logging back into Windows load IE and let it take you though its initial setup. When you are done close IE and install Photoshop.. This worked for me,,, hopefully it will work for you!

PC will not recognise Ipod-have tried everything!

I have brand new 4gp ipod mini. Uploaded software-when it said to connect ipod I did. when it got to the screen on the uploding wizard thingie that asked about formatting the ipod the "next" button was not highlighted, so with no other option, I ticked the "tick here if you want to install software without ipod connected" and carried on.
PC will not recognise ipod as either a piece of hardware or in itunes.
It is connect via a USB 2 port which is on a USB 2 card. The ipod does charge so that bit is working. The PC is about 4 years old and has Windows XP.
When i plug into an old USB 1 port the PC recongises the ipod, but says the port cannot support it (assume as it is too slow)
I have tried the following things
1. remove all ipod/itunes software and restore-using both the software downloads from apple site as well as the software which came with ipod
2. resetting it
3. putting it in disco format when plugged into PC.
Plse can someone tell me what I shoudl try next? I have looked through all the discussion threads and apple site and cannto see anything that seeems to fit this problem. I am assuming it is related to the USB.....but could be very wrong!

I have EXACTLY the same problem, my computer is even the same age as yours! I re-installed etc etc, I downloaded XP service pack 2, I have a 4GB ipod mini, I reset it and reset it again, I phoned Apple support, not a lot of help considering they told me to doexactly what I had been doing already, told me to try on another computer and like you I don't have any other to try on, I tried other devices in the USB 2 port (also a PCI card like yours) and they work fine, and the ipod charges. I went back to the Apple store to swap it for another one and the guy there said that it sounds as though my computer is only recognising the ipod as a external hard drive instead of a music player. When I plug it in I get a little bubble saying found new hardware mass storage device, and then anopther bubble says there was a problem installing hardware and the device may not work corretly (which clearly it doesn't!). So he told me to find smeone who is really good with windows (where....?) to sort out my computer so that it recognises it as an ipod and not an external hard drive, aparently there is a way to do this. I do have someone coming to check it oput tonight, if they can solve the problem then I will let you know how they do it!
Sorry can't be any more help but I suppose it's good to know there's someone else in the same situation!!!!

Well, since we don't know what "everything" might constitute, I'll provide you with the most common fix for this type of issue - reset the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once it appears, the reset is taking place. The Home screen will display shortly.

Firefox/google will not work - I have tried everything!

Firefox will not work.
Internet conection is fine, firewall configured, firefox removed and reinstalled (3.6 and 4.0) and all I get is;
"The server at en-gb.start3.mozilla.com is taking too long to respond."

Mine will not even load, tried from shortcut, program files and nothing. Rebooted PC and still it will not start? Any thoughts anyone?

ITunes will not launch - I've tried everything...

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1405 Laptop. After removing a lot of junk of it (using PC Decrapifier) I tried installing iTunes. The install appears succesful. However, when I click on the iTunes icon...nothing happens. No error message, no nothing. Below is a list of steps that I have taken to fix this problem (after searching these forums):
1)Went to the Control Panel and Clicked “Uninstall Programs”; Unintalled iTunes
2)Tried to also uninstall Quick Time but the program was not in the list
3)Deleted the folder “c:\program files\iTunes”
4)Deleted the folder “c:\program files\QuickTime”
5)Deleted the Registry Key “\HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.”
6)Verified that the account used had administrative privileges
7)Got the latest Windows Updates
8)Made sure iTunes folder didn’t contain strange characters
9)Emptied my Temp directory and restarted the machine
10)Downloaded the windows installer clean up utility
11)Removed the iTunes install files
12)Redownloaded iTunes from Apple website and saved it to my PC
13)Disabled my Anti-Virus Software (Panda Antivirus 2007)
14)Scanned my system with www.Ewido.com (Qoologic was not found)
15)Tried reinstalling iTunes
Nothing has worked so far. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. The computer is basically brand new and the operating system is Windows MCE. Please let me know if you need any more system information.

(replying to formaterm and Tim) you've got different problems than Luke. note that Luke is not getting an error message when he launches itunes. both of you are.
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken or missing QuickTime. (itunes needs a fully functional QT in order to work properly.)
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly? or do you get an error message, or some other peculiar behavior, or find that it isn’t on your PC at all?
if you get an error message (or peculiar behavior, or find that it’s missing), the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes 6
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

I have Corsair XMS PC3200 and it's rated for 2-2-3-5. The best I can get is 2.5-3-3-6 to run stable.
In the bios settings are:
2-3-3-6
Windows:
2.5-3-3-6
Another problem is PAT is disabled always... any ideas?
I know I posted about this earlier with my GEIL but that was easy enough to figure out just by using SPD settings. That however dosen't work with this memory either.

Try this setup, it works for me ...
Set manually the RAM timming to either 2-2-3-5-8 or 2-2-3-6-8 (same order as your BIOS)
Set MAT to either fast or tubo
Set RAM speed to 333 MHz (ie. to run at 5:4 ratio)
Set FSB to 260 to 270 depend how much you wanna overclock
Set Vdimm to 2.7 V (IMHO, most stable for 3200 LL RAMs)
Set Vcore to either default voltage or anyhing less than 1.6V to achieve a stable system.
You should be able to run at CAS 2 and PAT enable with the above config.

Maxl Script will not write to error file for data laod.

Sorry Glenn here is the new thread. I re ran without the semi colon after data 3 and the same error came up without anything being written to the error file.
I purposely removed a member from the orginal outline that is included in the data loaded but yet the error file is not written to. I tried doing the load manually but executing it in the background, error file is to be created on my local HD but it does not write it there. Checked the output and it is written to a directory located on the server. Although i think this is normal.
Could it be that it will not write to a local drive? I am going to try specifying a spot on the server to see if it runs there.

We are on Essbase 11.1.1.3
I am running Admin Console from my client PC that connects to the server in the script and I read that in this set up the error file will not get written to. This documentation was for v 9.1.3
Here is my script (i changed some of the names)
login 'user' 'password' on server';
create application 'Money1' as 'Money2';
spool stderr on to 'errorfile';
import database 'Money1'.'Main' data
from local text data_file 'Money1_Data.txt'
using server rules_file 'Data3'
on error append to 'dataload.err';
execute calculation 'CALC ALL;' on 'Money1'.'Main';
logout;
spool off;
exit;
here is the error output i get:

I don't see a dollar sign anywhere in my code and the error file does not get produced.
Also do error files get written too if the actins are executed in the background?

This works for me in a MaxL script run through essmsh.exe:
import database appname.dbname data from local text data_file "d:\\datafilename.txt" using server rules_file "rulename"
on error write to "d:\\errorfilename.err" ;Sometimes EAS (I think you are running it through that) does weird things to MaxL. I eschew MaxL in EAS as much as possible (like 100% of the time).
NB -- the datafilename and errorfilename and their drive letters are local to wherever you're running this process through the MaxL shell. I don't know how that works when you're running EAS -- are drives local to your session, local to the EAS server? Dunno. Leave EAS behind, buy TextPad (no I am not the author of that fine product) and download the MaxL syntax library, and be happy. :)

Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(
