Meta tag info

Is there a way to organize files by their meta tag, like for example itunes files. I have list of videos that I want in a particular order but if I don't have a 1 2 3 4 at the start of the file then they are ordered alphabetically, which I don't particularly want.

This isn't an itunes question, it's a file folder question and possibly an automator question. I was hoping someone might know a automator action that might get what I want. But I wasn't sure if that would be the answer. Itunes was just a reference to what I want to accomplish outside of itunes in finder.

By using links from other sites, or domains that have been
    submitted to
them. The former method is MUCH faster than the latter. If I
    put a link to
a client site on my site, it's spidered in days/or a few
    weeks at most.

Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes
    not propagating
    from Template to child -
    1. Rename the Templates folder
    2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
    the site other
    than root level
    3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
    will not
    propagate)
    5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
    without also
    uploading the changed local files
    6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
    and child page
    is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
    template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
    an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
    this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
    like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
    them. Have you
    done any of those?

  • Do I need to add meta tag info to all pages if I'm creating a desktop, tablet and phone site?

    Hi all,
I'm creating a website for a client and have built a desktop, tablet and mobile site.
What I'm wanting to know is can I add meta tags to only the desktop pages or does it need them on the tablet and mobile sites as well? Does this include images as well since the same images are repeated on all three site?
Lastly I have to add Google Analytics to the <head> section, is this only done on the home page of the desktop site or does this need to be added to every page (including tablet and mobile)?
Would be grateful for any info or links.
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi guvieira,
I found the answer to this issue.
For the meta tags, if you create meta tags for the desktop pages, you can copy and paste that information to the tablet and mobile sites.
For the Google Analytics you can copy the tracking html text to the 'HTML for <head>' in the Metadata window (Page - Page Properties) on your masters page (this will flow onto the rest of the pages).
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I add Meta tags to my website

I have produced a website in i web and published it to my .mac account.
I need to know how to add meta tags to get it recognised by the search engines.
The company I am using to do this want the ftp info. As I upload directly to my .mac account I am not sure what they need. Can you help please?

I think I may have a good workaround here, not sure how it will work with .mac as I dont use it, I am in control of my default page within Apache.
Create your site as normal within Iweb and publish it.
Outside of iWeb create your site's real default homepage by hand, that contains the meta tags and that redirects to your iWeb homepage. In this way any Search engine hits to your site will hit the external page first, reading the meta tags then get redirected to your real home page. Not ideal of course but at least you don't have to keep an eye on your metatag's being overwritten by republishing your homepage.
Here is the code from mine, it appears to work:
    +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://+
    +www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></t+
    +itle><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url= Welcome.html" />+
    +<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="enter,your,keywords,here">
    +<META NAME="description" CONTENT="description of your website">+
    </head><body></body></html>
This page will redirect to the "Welcome.html" page created in iWeb.
    Hope this helps.

  • Do I need to insert meta tags on domain if it redirects to web.mac page?

    Hi,
I've set up a domain (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca) with Internic.ca in Canada and filled out a very easy form to redirect to http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions. Through this excellent forum I learned how to insert meta tags into all my pages on the web.mac site using text edit successfully.
Now, I'm wondering, will search engines find me if I have "no code" or meta tags at www.blossomsolutions.ca? Internic is only "redirecting" my URL not hosting it. It costs more money if they "host" my domain and I wouldn't have a clue how to set up an index.html page anyway for this domain. Even if I got someone to do this can you redirect an index.html page from blossomsolutions.ca to a web.mac.com page? i.e. does the domain code need to be empty in order for it to redirect?
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
    Dazed and confused,

    Hello Kathleen,
Welcome to the forum. You're site looks very clean and elegant.
The domain name you purchased (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca/) is serving as a redirecting page to your iWeb generated web page. The answer to whether or not search engines will find you is both yes and no. Search engines use programs called "spiders" that find pages through links and trace out web pages.
Given some time, sites like Google and MSN will likely find you website (and if you put meta tags in it will display that info in the search engine). But if you are like most iWeb users (myself included) you are impatient for your site to be picked up in search engines. Which is fine, since several search engines provide the means for you to submit your URL. Read this post for more information. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3905977&#3905977
Looks like you may have already submitted your .mac page.
Another handy tip for looking up what information a search engine posses on your site is to type "site:" followed by the web address you wish to look up into a search engine. If the search engine has any of the pages to your site it will display them with the meta data they posses. Your site info can be found here. http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions
I checked your .ca address and google didn't come up with anything.
Internic.ca should provide you with the means to apply a little bit of a description to your web address. Apart from that, you can't really add any meta data to the domain name.
Unfortunately even when you get both web addresses picked up by search engines it won't associate them together. They may come up near each other in searches. But the search engine will see them as entirely different sites.
You could host your site at the domain name if you chose to. The process of publishing is one click like to .mac. But you "Publish to a Folder" and then upload the complete page to the domain name. Its more difficult and cost more (if you chose to retain your .mac account) but it would give you better search engine rankings for your name.
—"It costs more money if they "host" my domain and I wouldn't have a clue how to set up an index.html page anyway for this domain. Even if I got someone to do this can you redirect an index.html page from blossomsolutions.ca to a web.mac.com page? i.e. does the domain code need to be empty in order for it to redirect?"
It isn't really worth it have them host your domain name only to put an index.html that redirects to your .mac. Thats basically what the domain forwarding is doing (minus a little bit of info).
My advice is to keep things how you have them. But, just make sure you get the domain submitted to search engines.
Hope this wasn't to long or confusing.

  • Meta tage in PDF files

is there a tool that will generate Meta Tag data in existing PDF files?
I do know how to do it manually but literally have a bunch of pdf files to edit and a tool that what would at least get me close would be a big help.
If you are wondering "why bother", the answer is that I'm not sure other than the Google bot seems to be scanning pdf files on my site pretty often and my guess is that Meta data can't hurt.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
There are two ways you could go about doing this. One is to use a Batch Process, assuming the metadata for all the files is the same. This can be done with Acrobat Pro with no additional tools required.
A second way would be to use a custom JavaScript automation solution. The metadata is in two locations in the JavaScript model- the doc.metadata and the doc.info property. There is already a tool at
pdfscripting.com that incorporates both a custom toolbar button and dialog in Acrobat for entering metadata one file at a time. You could use this tool directly or modify it and it is a good example of using these properties. However, you have to be a member of the site in order to download this tool.
If you have a good understanding of JavaScript you could create this solution yourself, but it is not a lighweight task.
    Hope this helps,

  • Meta Tag data + IIS logs

we are using CF MX7 on IIS. I use a 3rd party tool to analyze
the log files. My content is chunked based on meta tags. The issue
is that IIS is not returning teh meta tag data. Is there a way to
collect trhe met tag data via CF?

I've looked at IMAQ Write Image and Vision Info File 2.vi. According to the documentation, "Writes an image, along with extra vision information associated with the image, to a PNG file. This extra vision information includes overlay information, pattern matching template information, and calibration information. Note that this vision information can only be saved with the PNG file format."
I have used the Write Custom Data.vi to write several keys to the image, before using the Write Image and Vision Info VI noted above. It does not seem that the keys can be read as metadata from the file by windows or other applications.
It is discussed on LAVA at
    http://lavag.org/topic/5297-embedding-additional-txt-in-a-png-file-imaq-82/
It seems like the solution should be quite simple.... not there yet.

  • Meta tags or descriptions

Are Meta tags or descriptions the best way for your website to get picked up by Google, Bing, & Yahoo?  Or do you have to pay them for better results?  Thanks!

Since some months I use "Dublin Core Metadata".
    Here the link: http://www.metatags.info/dublin_core_metadata_element_set
On the other hand – what concerns "Olde Worlde Lace's “that neither it nor this forum  say much about“ there was a very interesting thread here in the forum about SEO, which I remember.
    1) Fully understand your markup language.
    2) Work first BEFORE anything on CONTENT not on black hat "tricks" and or on white hat inbound links.
    3) Expand the content so that you become an authority on the subject of the keyword phrases you wish to appear well ranked for.
4a) Avoid the error of going all over the internet looking for the "ONE WAY TO SUCCESS" posts. There is NO such thing. Google does not rank all sites and blogs by the same values. Some are simply in the top ten for middle to complex keywords and keyword phrases because of their AGE and the AUTHORITY factor (that they contain original content with good outbound links WHILE OTHER BLOGS AND SITES are listed in the top ten ON REGIONAL search because of inbound links (example: You are better ranked on Google.FR if you have FRENCH blogs from FRENCH servers linking to you as well as being yourself hosted on a FRENCH dot fr domain or a in France hosted dot com). And there are certain pages which are ranked simply by the volume of search requests for that page. And then there are others which appear and remain in the top ten because they are rated by Google with what is called PageRank .... and on and on.
In other words before you end up getting depressed and giving in to purchasing Adwords (sponsored links) try the following:
4b) Set a routine. Make this routine involve an hour at least per day to UPDATING and EXPANDING your content. Use PDF files (learn how to optimize meta tags and onpage PDF alt text and Accessibility). Expand with images which have BEFORE YOU UPLOAD THEM been right clicked to add (on your computer) meta information to the image files. Make sure to name your image info TRUTHFULLY (Google can read the content of images) so do not call it PARIS HILTON and ME unless it is a photo of you and Paris. Use the "+" sign between keywords. Per example if indeed it is a picture of you with Paris Hilton in Saint Tropez in the summer of 2008 then you might wish to name the image: YourFullnameInOneword+ParisHilton+SaintTropez+France+2008.jpg - note that some image formats do not allow for meta tags. Also be aware that as soon as you start tagging your images these keywords will be READ BY THE ROBOTS as they crawl your markup - so DO NOT SPAM your image titles and have DIFFERENT image tittles. Also place your images in a 2 deep folder system on your server AND ALWAYS LINK TO THE IMAGE WITH THE FULL URI / URL.
4c) Next spend a few hours reading a good BOOK about SEO. There are several. The best I have found is by DAVID VINEY and called "Get to the Top on Google" (Published by Nicholas Brealey Publishing - London, Boston). This book will give you tips and techniques to get your site to the of the search engine rankings and stay there. Also read the archives of Vanessa Fox's Blog - www.ninebyblue.com/blog/ (HGD now > http://www.ninebyblue.com/blog/seo/).
    5) Set your objective to 3 keywords or keyword phrases per page.
    6) Start to NAME YOUR PAGES with your keywords and name your folders as well - but try to do this ALL in small letters with dashes between words.
    7) Install Google Webmaster Tools.
    8) Make and add a XML sitemap and update this on Google Webmaster Tools. (And get Google Analytics)
    9) Start to seek IN THE TEXT BODY PageRank 5 and higher "follow links"
(see here info about NOFOLLOW links on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nofollow).
    10) Take a break and start again - the key to success is WORK. Nothing else will give you lasting success as honest effort.
    11) ... and as Nancy O. said: only a short time ago: patience!

  • How to tell web host no meta tags or search words please?

I am getting ready to upload files to my new site but want to make sure there will be no search words for this site other than the URL.   I use DW4.  Thanks.

Meta tags are placed in the HTML. Your webhost has nothing to do with the content that you place on their servers, other than making it available to the world.
Look in files you created with Dreamweaver and see if you added any meta information, it would look something like this:
    <meta name="typeOfMetaTagHere" content="The Actual meta info here">
If you don't see anything that starts with  <meta... then you don't have any meta information on the page.

  • Meta tagging audio files in os x

hi, I have just moved from MS to Apple. In MS I used to input important meta tags for mp3files (my own) via "info". When I chose info on OS X my only option is to use the field for Spotlight commentaries. But since I want to fill inn composer, year and so forth this seems to be to little.

once your mp3 are in the itunes LIBRARY then you choose command + i to enter your own information. Once this is done go to advanced and convert the id3 tag to version 2.4
You can also select a multiple number of files to do some of the information ; just experiment with it. Oh BTW if you are successful and id3 tag your files remember to copy these over to your older mp3 files where ever you have them stored and most of the information after you id3 tag them will go with the copy.

  • ZenCast -- Using / Displaying IDv3 Meta Tag Informati

    Hi there.
Was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the Creative Zen Vision: M in the ZenCast folder to display the Meta-Tag information within the audio/video files. It clearly manages to do it in the Music Library, but rather than place my podcasts there, obviously I want them organised to the ZenCast folder section.
For example... I download "Best of Moyles" BBC Radio podcasts and their file names are something stupid like:
    <EM>bestofmoyles_20060428-0700_40_pc.mp3</EM>
    <EM></EM>
...now, when I'm browsing through lots of these in the folder, I have no idea whats on them. In the ZenCast software, it actually shows what the file is about under the 'Item' column.... So basically does anyone know how to get whats in the "Item" colum to display on the player -- 'cos it works in the <EM>Music Library</EM> folder... just not in ZenCast.
....Oh, and if anyone is aware of hiding the file-type extensions from the Vision:M ... do let me know

The problem is that the file stored on the device by ZenCast in the ZenCast folder is not an MP3 with an ID3 tag. It is a Motion JPEG file. I am not sure what meta info is stored in the motion jpeg by ZenCast. The ZVM doesn't show any meta info for any video file (as far as I can tell.
They need to fix this, there has been a lot of talk in these forums about getting ZenCast to copy over an audio file, and not a Motion JPEG.
The way I listen to podcasts is I copy them over the device after I download (or get ZenCast to download them), I then edit a playlist called "New Podcasts" and add in my newly download podcasts. Then I can quickly find my new podcasts.

  • Mp3 meta tags

I've only had a couple of minutes to play with released version of Soundbooth but it appears to 'lose' the mp3 meta data between opening and saving an mp3 file. I also cannot see how to edit the meta data. Am I missing something obvious?

I think it would be a great option to have various levels of metadata editing options as selectable by the user. I mean, sure, Bridge is great, but it's a little over the top, and kind of inconvenient to have as a separate program for metadata editing. If, in the options, you could set Soundbooth to either automatically remove metadata on saving, or to keep it the same and have a link in the menu to editing JUST the tag information that is there (i.e., if it's got ID3v1 and/or ID3v2, bring up a window for editing both). Then, you could either have a third level for the in-depth metadata editing (like in Audition), or you could leave it in a separate program, like Bridge or Audition.
Of course, implementing that sort of thing could be a nightmare, and it could be even more confusing to some than just having all the metadata editing options all rolled into one package. That's just the way I'd have it.
Or, you could just have Soundbooth edit popular tag info (ID3, etc.) that people would use for their media playing, and have an option in the menu to remove all metadata. That would be perfect.

  • How do I add multiple scripts from search engines to my meta tag properties?

I currently have copied the goolge script for website varification and analytics, etc and pasted it into my meta tag properties dialog box. There is no problem as far as Google varifying the page. However, I would like to copy Bing's search engine script into my meta tag in addition to Googles script. How do I go about doing this? Do I hit the return on my keyboard under the ending of Googles script, then paste in the Bing script?
The the last part of the Google script ending in this:
    </script>
(paste new script from Bing here?)
Will this cancel out each other and cause problems?
Can someone walk me through this process, because Bing's search engine will not varify my site through two of the three other methods.
    Ben

Adding a script after the closure of previous script is the way to go i.e. right after the </script> tag.
So it should look something like below:
    <script>
    Google's script
    </script>
    <script>
    Bing's script
    </script>
Cannot comment on one interfering with the other since it really depends on what exact code is there in the scripts. Google and Bing help resources will be able to help more with this.
    Thanks,
    Vikas

  • Adding meta tags to published web site

I have created my website using iWeb and subsequently downloaded the RAVE SEO tool and used it to add for meta tags to my sites (description and keywords).
    I followed this procedure:
    1) I published my site from iWeb to a local folder on my iMac
    2) I added the meta tags using the RAVE SEO tool
    3) I tried to publish the site to my webhotel with tags added using the ftp tool in the RAVE SEO tool.
    PROBLEM:
when I publish from the SEO tool, it is the old sites which are published. In my local folder where I started out publishing the web site to, I can see that the tags from description and keywords have been added. But the site which is published does not contain the tags.
I have a feeling that the SEO tool is looking in a wrong foder, but I cannot change the folder using the "FTP Details" funktion in the SEO tool.
Do anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I have a feeling that the SEO tool is looking in a wrong foder, but I cannot change the folder using the "FTP Details" funktion in the SEO tool.
When you click publish and choose FTP you can create a new setup or use an existing one.
And if you do not know which folder to publish to, click browse. You decide.

  • Can't get a web page to validate with meta tags with w3c??

I have created a website for my school projects, and every week I have to add something to it for the course, and every monday I have to submit my code in a zipped folder to the professor, after running it through the w3c validation page, and passing, This current week, I was instructed to swork on SEO for my site, and add meta tags to the site to fish for traffic, and then I have to validate it through w3c and submit. and this is what w3c says when I try to validate the page:
Line 5, Column 131: there is no attribute "fttp-equiv"
    …mputers, swimming" /><meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; chars…

You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
This error may also result if the element itself is not supported in the document type you are using, as an undefined element will have no supported attributes; in this case, see the element-undefined error message for further information.
How to fix: check the spelling and case of the element and attribute, (Remember XHTML is all lower-case) and/or check that they are both allowed in the chosen document type, and/or use CSS instead of this attribute. If you received this error when using the <embed> element to incorporate flash media in a Web page, see the FAQ item on valid flash.
What in the world does this mean, because I am seriously lost on this, and the only way I could get around this was to completely remove the entire line, "<meta name="" content="Zachariah Lloyd, basketball, computers" /><meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />", which removed all of my meta tags completely, in order to validate it?? I cannot see what is setting this thing off like that, I have never gottena validation error before, and I now know that they are written as meaningless gibberish that does not even remotely explain what is wrong, at least not to me....
    Please help!!!!

Line 4 and line 5 are trying to do the same thing. Take out the
    <meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
line entirely and you will be good.
