Meta Tags von PDF Dateien im Windows Explorer

Und zwar habe ich meinen PDF Dateien mit dem Programm "PDF Explorer" benutzerdefinierte Meta Tags zugeordnet. Im Windows Explorer werden diese aber nicht angezeigt. Im Adobe Acrobat Pro bei den Eigenschaften jedoch schon. Hat jemand ne Lösung wie man die Meta Daten im Explorer anzeigen lassen kann, um z.b. danach sortieren zu können?

Windoof zeigt schon seit Vista PDF-Thumbnails nativ an. Das hat mit Adobe recht wenig zu tun. Allerdings hängt es von ein paar Details der PDFs selber ab, wie dem Umstand, dass sie eine eingebettete Seitenvorschau haben müssen. Könnte auch einfach sein, dass sich irgendein Programm die Verknüpfung mit PDFs geschnappt hat und es deshalb nicht mehr funktioniert...

Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?

I'm developing an application where a file is need to be saved as pdf. But, if there is already a pdf file with same name in the specified directory, I wish to overwrite it. And in the overwrite case, read-only files should not be overwritten. If the duplicate(old) file is opened in windows (Win7) explorer preview, it is write protected. So, it should not be overwritten. I tried to get the '
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_READONLY' using MS API 'GetFileAttributes', but it didn't succeed. How Adobe marks the file as read-only for preview? Do I need to check some other attribute of the file?

PDF Thumbnails in Windows explorer...

I have noticed that when you choose thumbnail view in XP or Vista, it only shows a adbove icon instead of an actual pdf thumbnail of th actual document. When reviewing hundreds of PDF's in windows explorer, this is a necessity. Why was this a standard installed option on Adobe 7 and then lost in version 8 and 9. This has to be a program glitch. This is becoming more and more of an important issue in my office as time goes on.
Please note that I AM NOT referring to seeing thumbnail views from within acrobat. This is a simple option that I know how to enable. I need to see them from a ile explorer window.

I've had Acrobat 8 on XP for quite some time and all my thumbnails in Explorer were showing the first page, but then a couple of weeks ago I uninstalled some older versions of Acrobat in a bit of a clean up and suddenly I was just left with the icons. Disaster - I too have hundreds of pdf files and seeing the colour of the front page before I open a file saves me so much time.
Loading Reader didn't work for me (sorry Mike) but I found some advice in another thread to try running Repair Acrobat Installation under the help menu, then restarting. Success!!! All my thumbnails are back as I need them.

Tags from 'Comments' field in Windows Explorer don't show up in iTunes

I have thousand of files where I allready put tags directly in the comments field in the files proberties in Windows Explorer, but the tags don't show up in iTunes comments field?
I can then manually put tags directly in iTunes comments field and they will not show up in the proberties of the files in Windown Explorer!
So I ask, why on earth aren't those fields (in iTunes and in Windows Explorer) compatible, when all other fields (for example name, artist, year) are compatible?

Okay, thanks for replies and for your time, but the problem continues.
First: I've ripped CD's in different ways (before starting to use iTunes). I've used Nero, Windows Media Player, Lame and imported mp3 files directly from the internet. Some files have been through Flash Renamer and TigoTago. After importing the files I've tagged them with comments and other stuff directly in Windows Explorer. And then I decided to use iTunes because of buying iPods and playing music through AirPort Express.
What I've tried to right now:
I've tried to check files with MP3Val, but it said the files were OK.
Then I tried - with another laptop - to install I new iTunes program (English language to be sure and there after I imported/ripped a new CD using iTunes to import. Before importing I put a tag in the Comments field in iTunes and it never showed up in Windows Explorer Comment field. I also tried after that to put tags directly in Windows Explorer Comment field and add the files once again to iTunes library, but again, no comments in iTunes. Also again put tags in iTunes, but no tags in Windows Explorer.
Then I did more or less the same using Realplayer to import the CD, but with the same negative results.
*Then I went back to my old laptop, imported a CD using iTunes and then tagged the comment field in Windows Explorer and suddenly I got comments in iTunes! But the comments look like this: "00000000 00000210 000008E8 0000000000775908 00000000 0040E5E1 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000".*
I don't know what to do with this?
And apparently, it's only when importing new files using iTunes to rip the CD, that this happens. Otherwise, nothing happens at all.

Very slow opening PDF files from Windows Explorer

When I open a file from within Acrobat X Standard - whether through File>Open or the recent files list - the file opens very quickly. When I open a PDF file from Windows Explorer, it takes 10 seconds or longer for the file to open. Is this an Acrobat issue or a Windows/system problem? (I don't experience the same delay when opening Word and Excel files from Windows Explorer.)

Hallo,
bisher nutze ich Adobe Acrobat 7.0 um .PDF Dateien aus .Doc Dateien zu erzeugen.
Allerdings dauert es bei einem 230 Seiten starken Dokument immerhin etwas über einer Stunde, bis das PDF erzeugt wurde.
Betriebssystem ist Windows XP, CPU ein Intel Q9400 und 3GB Arbeitsspeicher.
Würde es einen großen Unterschied in der Geschwindigkeit beim erzeugen von PDF Dokumenten machen, würde ich zur aktuellen Version 9.0 der Adobe Software aktualisieren?

Nun aber zum nächsten Problem
Ich habe mir nun einen Adobe Reader Prof. genommen eine Test PDF Datei erstellt (Cute PDF Writer) und habe die entsprechende Option "Funktionen in Adobe Reader erweitern" aktiviert. Daraufhin das Dokument gespeichert.
Als nächstes habe ich die PDF Datei auf einen Testrechner mit Adobe Reader XI kopiert und die Datei dort geöffnet - es erscheint:
Was mache ich falsch bzw. was muss ich ändern, damit diese Meldung nicht kommt und ich die Datei signieren kann?

Hallo, ich habe ein ganz merkwürdiges Problem: seit einiger Zeit kann (konnte) ich keine pdf-Dateien aus dem Internet-Browser anzeigen - und konnte diese auch nicht downloaden. Es kamen immer Meldungen im Sinne von "unbekannter Dateityp". Heute habe ich alles was nur mit pdf zu tun hat deinstalliert und nochmal den neuesten adobe reader installiert. Anfangs ging nach wie vor wieder kein einziger Browser (Firefox, IE, Opera). Ich konnte nichts anzeigen und auch nichts herunterladen. Nach einiger zeit (ca. halbe stunde) und mehreren versuchen meinerseits, hat mir zumindest der IE die Option angeboten die Datei downzuloaden (öffnen kann er sie noch immer nicht) und nach dem Speichern auf dem Desktop - kann ich sie auch öffnen. Überraschenderweise gesellte sich dann nach einiger weiterer Zeit auch der Firefox (welcher vorher immer eine lange Error-Meldung brachte) dazu und bietet mir jetzt sogar das ganze Programm mit Öffnen und Downloaden an und tut das auch. Opera bleibt nach wie vor stur und kennt den Dateityp überhaupt nicht und bietet mir auch keine Möglichkeit des speicherns an. - Das ganze ist doch nicht normal und auch nicht vertrauenserweckend und ich befürchte, dass wieder alles zusammenbricht und wieder gar nichts geht. Kennt jemand das Problem? - und wie kann man das beheben? ich bitte euch mir das recht einfach zu erklären, da ich echt nur Anwender bin und kaum "Insider Wissen" besitze. Vielen Dank im Vorraus für hoffentlich - für mich - effiziente Antworten.

Ich habe dieses Problem selber noch nicht erlebt, aber es deutet alles darauf hin, dass durch die Installation des aktuellen Adobe Reader die vorher offensichtlich "vermackte" Windows-Dateizuordnung für den Dateityp PDF wiederhergestellt wurde.
Warum Opera diese Änderung (noch) nicht registriert hat, kann ich nicht beantworten und würde möglicherweise zusätzlicher Recherche ausserhalb der Adobe-Foren erfordern. An dieser Stelle sei mir eine vielleicht bescheuert anmutende Frage erlaubt: "schluckt" Opera das denn nach einem Neustart ?

Meta tage in PDF files

is there a tool that will generate Meta Tag data in existing PDF files?
I do know how to do it manually but literally have a bunch of pdf files to edit and a tool that what would at least get me close would be a big help.
If you are wondering "why bother", the answer is that I'm not sure other than the Google bot seems to be scanning pdf files on my site pretty often and my guess is that Meta data can't hurt.

Hi Steve,
There are two ways you could go about doing this. One is to use a Batch Process, assuming the metadata for all the files is the same. This can be done with Acrobat Pro with no additional tools required.
A second way would be to use a custom JavaScript automation solution. The metadata is in two locations in the JavaScript model- the doc.metadata and the doc.info property. There is already a tool at
pdfscripting.com that incorporates both a custom toolbar button and dialog in Acrobat for entering metadata one file at a time. You could use this tool directly or modify it and it is a good example of using these properties. However, you have to be a member of the site in order to download this tool.
If you have a good understanding of JavaScript you could create this solution yourself, but it is not a lighweight task.

we are using in our company Microsoft Sharepoint for Document Management. In this System we have several Document Libraries where we upload our PDF Files.
In Microsoft Office 2007 it is possible to change the Meta Data of a Office File directly inside e.g. Word. This is very handy for the user, cause he is able to read or change his document and make changes to the meta tags at the same time.
Now my question:
Is it possible (perhaps with an 3rd Party AddIn) to show a "Panel" inside Adobe Acrobat which shows these Sharepoint Meta Tags and makes it possible to change these?

Multiple failed attempts to open PDF file from Windows Explorer by double clicking

Hi,
The configuration of my system is: Windows 7 SP1 x64, Adobe Reader 11.0.10.32.
When double clicking on PDF file or trying Open with Adobe Reader IX in context menu in Windows Explorer or any other file manager, the Adobe Reader opens only after few attempts. At each failed attempt the new AcroRd32.exe process arises. And only after few attempts the file opens! As a result, i see multiple empty AcroRd32.exe processes in Task Manager, each take about 4000 Kb of RAM and the only one file opened. I'm forced to kill those empty processes manually, because they are not killed when closing Adobe Reader window.
I found the same problem on another PC with the same configuration.

Could you please let me know for how long have you started facing this issue.
Open TEMP folder (Press Windows + R and type %temp%) and delete all the files in it.
Does this happen with any specific PDF or all PDFs?
You might try disabling Protected Mode by opening Reader and going to "Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)"

Adobe PDF Druckertreiber erzeugt Postscript anstelle von pdf-Dateien

Beim Drucken kann man programmtechnisch den gewünschten Dateinamen in der DOCINFO-Struktur angeben.
Bisher habe ich Acrobat 4.0 genutzt (Druckertreiber: PDFWriter), um beim Drucken pdf-Dateien zu erzeugen.
Dieser Treiber erzeugte immer zwei Dateien: eine leere Datei und eine Datei mit der Erweiterung pdf.
Soweit war alles gut.
Seit der Installation von Acrobat 6.0 (Druckertreiber: Adobe PDF), erzeugt dieser Treiber nur noch eine Datei.
Aber egal ob ich eine Dateierweiterung angebe (.pdf, .tmp, .ps,...) oder nicht, ich bekomme immer nur eine Postscriptdatei,
die ich manuell dem Destiller vorwerfen muß.
Lasse ich den Dateinamen in besagter DOCINFO-Struktur leer, kommt der "PDF-Datei speichern unter"-Dialog und ich bekomme eine pdf-Datei.
Ich muß es aber vorgeben können!

ich habe das selbe Problem und muss ebenfalls eine Lösung finden. Gibt es schon neuere Erkenntnisse darüber. Interessanterweise verhält sich das Freewaretool PDFCreator ebenso. Dort gibt es noch die Möglichkeit, über den Jobnamen die PDF's automatisch generieren zu lassen, ist aber auch nicht so elegant zu lösen wie über die docinfo.

Lizenz zum Erstellen von PDF Dateien noetig?

Ich habe eine einfache Frage, auf die ich jedoch noch keine Antwort gefunden habe. Benoetige ich eine Lizenz, um eine PDF Datei (also puren Text - nicht mir irgend einem Interface) erstellen moechte? Oder darf ich das einfach so machen?

Da würde ich mal stark gegenwetten, es gibt eine Latte an
Drittprodukten, die ebenfalls in der Lage sind, PDF-Dateien zu
erstellen, ohne die offiziellen PDF-Libraries von Adobe zu benutzen (die
z.B. für den Export in InDesign genutzt wurd). Ich denke da z.B. an
diverse Extensions für PHP, ActiveX-Bausteine oder die pdflib für
Unix-Derivate, die allesamt nicht illegal sind.

Problem to see PDF properties from windows explorer

When we do right click on a pdf then properties then we click on the PDF tab, windows explorer in hanging for a few minutes and then no information is displayed (see print screen).
We have Adobe Acrobat 10 and Windows Server 2003
Any idea about this problem ?

To be precise, we have this problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader 10 (and not Abode Acrobat 10).
