Metadata date

I have asked this question on the Bridge forum without any response so I will give it a go on here. I have a xml metadata template that works ok apart from the date created in IPTC core. The information in this field does not update to reflect the date the image was taken. It is stuck on the date the template was saved. Is it possible to modify the template to automatically input the date the image was taken?
I am using XP pro and the most up to date version of Bridge and ACR.
All the best

The directory name will be something like "/Volumes/External Drive/directory". You can drag the folder from the Finder into a Terminal window, and Terminal will insert the name just as if you'd typed it.
Warning, if you're not used to command line utilities, be careful with exiftool -- however, I don't know of any easier tool that's as capable and trustworthy.
I suggest you make a backup of your data before playing with exiftool; hopefully it goes as you want, but if not you'll probably learn what you actually need to do, from the difference between what you wanted to happen and what actually happened, and you can restore the backup and try again.

    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

  • Can EXIF (or metadata) data be manipulated in LR?

Can EXIF (or metadata) data be manipulated in LR?

In the main LR doesn't touch EXIF data, there are some exceptions, you can for instance change the date in the EXIF, EXIF data is part of the original file and LR is none destructive and doesn't make changes to the original file, with this exception. If you really want to change EXIF data you will need to do this outside of LR using a EXIF editor.  As far as other metadata goes, that is exactly what LR does. It will read and write metadata both in its catalog and either to the file or to a sidecar  file in the case of propitiatory RAW formats. It writes this metadata in the xmp format.

  • Metadata Date Time

I have set the time in my 5D III to London with the daylight savings time modification activated.  I live in the Eastern Time Zone.  There are four different date/time entries in my Metadata panel with current entries from one image shown.  I am unable to find any information about how these operate.  They are:
    Metadata Date                  8/18/2012 1:20:39 PM
Date Time Original            8/18/2012 4:49:58 PM
Date Time Digitized           8/18/2012 4:49:58 PM
    Date Time                         8/18/2012 1:20:39 PM
As shown the “Metadata Date” and “Date Time” have been changed from UCT to EDT, but these times are different from “Date Time Original” and “Date Time Digitized” by 19 seconds after accounting for the time zone difference.
Can someone give some light about these entries and how they work?
    Thanks,
    Wil

Not all but some of the information for which you are asking.
 Date/time original specifies when a photo was taken
 Date/time digitized specifies when an image was digitized
 Date/time modified specifies when a file was modified by the user

    Is a good starting place.

  • Can I show metadata date format in DD/MM/YY rather than MM/DD/YY?

Being a UK user I want to see any date shown in the metadata in DD/MM/YY format rather than the MM/DD/YY . Is this possible, even if I have to edit the XML schema by hand?

Would using the effect - 'Clip name'  and then editing your clip name to what you wish get you to where you want?
or you only want it associated with your mete data, not your output? If so, would that not be an option with your camera and setting it before your video shoot?

  • Updating metadata/data in ASO reporting cube from BSO

    Hi Experts,
I am creating an ASO reporting cube and would like to know the best way to automate the update of metadata and data from a BSO cube without the use of a partition? This is my first time working with ASO. Any insight or examples would be much appreciated. Please advise.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you for the responses!
The dimensions will be the same. I will be exporting level0 data then loading it into the ASO cube. I believe I should be able to use the same load rule that I am using for the BSO cube, correct? Also, I am planning on only loading the 'Final' versions of 'Budget' and 'Forecast'. In my data export I believe I can put a condition to only export the 'Final' version, please correct me if I'm wrong?
One last thing, I would like to keep 2 years of 'Actuals' and 1 year of 'Budget' and 'Forecast'. At year end I would to clear previous 'Budget' and 'Forecast' and 2nd prior year after the current 'Budget' and 'Forecast' are closed. Can this be handled in a separate script? Please advise.
    Thanks again for the responses.

  • After some updates, Aperture stops recognizing previously imported files, and rewrites video metadata dates.  How do I keep the from occurring?

I have been using Aperture since version 1 (to now, 3.x.x), and after some updates Aperture fails to recognize the files previously imported.  I have checked the selection box that says "Do not import duplicates" every time I import.  I have pics and videos dating back to 2001 in the Aperture dB.  Videos were imported once Ap started to support it.  (Well, the initial support was really bad...)  Anyway, those earlier video files all have the same date - now - thanks to Aperture changing the dates to 3/24/00.  The funny thing is, Aperture will not let me manually correct the dates.  To me, it seems that after every major update, the dB gets "reset" and forgets files already imported.  I'm not saying pics/vids imported in the last month, but say six months to five years or more.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
I do not think this matters, hoever, my Ap is set up with referenced original on an external drive.
    Thank you!

    WOW!
I'm REALLY impressed by your exhaustive and detailled description!
How long did it take to write? Sure longer than the import itself...
Thank you so much. I got a working import of Ap2 lib before but your description have me various hints for handling problematic or faulty projects.

  • Planning metadata - data type "currency" to "text"

    Hi.
    There is a problem.
As in Calculation Script the data stored in Oracle Essbase (Planning) as number (property data type = currency or nonCurrency or unspecified) to transfer to an element at which property data type = "text".

    Hi,
    Can you clarify your question?
Data for Planning apps is stored in Essbase. Text is usually stored in the Planning relational database.
Im not sure I understand what you re trying to achieve. Are you asking about members tagged with the "Text" data type?

  • DNG file modification date not changed by writing metadata?

I use LR 2.7 on Windows XP.   To my surprise, I just noticed that writing metadata updates (e.g., new keywords) from LR to the DNG files does NOT appear to update the file modification date, which suggests obvious issues for backup strategies (yes, I understand that a changed modification date introduces other backup issues).   I have verfifed that the metatdata does indeed change in the DNG files, so I am mystified.   Can someone shed some light on this?   Thanks.
    js
    www.johnshorephoto.com

Yes, I explicitely invoke "save metadata to file".   Furthemore, I have checked the behavior by (a) modifying DNGs in LR; (b) saving the metatdata to the DNG; (c) creating a new LR catalog and importing the revised DNGs.    The metadata changes do show up in the re-imported DNGs (and the metadata field "Metadata Date" correctly shows the recent change).  Morevover, the file sizes do change (wth the metadata changes) even though the modification dates shown in windows explorer do not change.
However, I just redid the experiment to double check, and discovered an important clue - the mysterious behavior occurs when the DNG files are on a NAS device (in particular a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.   To summarize:
         - When the DNG files are on a local hard drive, the file modification dates change as expected
         - When the DNG files are non local (i.e., on the network but on a NAS device), the file modification dates do not change even though the file sizes do change;
What's more, I see the same behavior when accessing the DNGs via Adobe Bridge (CS5) - i.e., if I change the metadata, I'm asked if I want to apply the metadata changes to the DNG, and I say yes (and confirm by looking via Bridge at a copy of the changed file).   On a local disk, the file modificaiton dates change (as do the modification date displayed in Bridge), but if the files are on the NAS, the modification dates do not.
    Any additional thoughts?

  • Is there a solution to the data/time camera metadata problem?

After a lot of testing I've nailed down a serious flaw with Lightroom, and I'm wondering if people have any sort of solution, either from within Lightroom or externally.
When Lightroom is used to export JPEGs, the exported files have the correct Image EXIF data stamped in the Date/Time Original and Date/Time Digitized fields - it matches the date/time of the RAW file, which is exactly what you'd want and expect.
What it doesn't set correctly though is the JPEG file Created, and file Modified dates - they are set as the date/time the JPEG export was done from Lightroom. There are many applications that sort based on the last modified date of the JPEG, and it's illogical that Lightroom wouldn't have the JPEG file metadata match up with the EXIF data. I can't think of a single scenario where you'd want to have two different time/data stamps in the image that you just exported.
Using ACDSee I can batch change the JPEG file Created and file Modified dates to match the EXIF data. It's an added step I shouldn't have to do, but I can do it. What I *can't* change in batch mode with ACDSee is the Camera Date/Time time - which, you guessed it, is stamped with the time that the JPEG was *created* during the export, not the time that the camera was set for when the RAW file was captured, which is what it SHOULD be set to. It should be stamped with the EXIF date/time original data. I think I already know the answer to this, but is there any setting in Lightroom that addresses this issue?
I've seen others recommend EXIFtool but using a command line tool isn't what I consider a reasonable suggestion. Are there any other tools that might help me here?

    Jason -
    <br />
<br />You mentioned that the CreateDate wasn't set correctly in your files. For my JPGs exported from LR, based on Canon CRW raws, the CreateDate does match the DateTimeOriginal. ExifTool is reasonable enough for me; here is a sample output of ALL the date/time related fields in one of my exported JPGs.

  • Data load problem - BW and Source System on the same AS

    Hi experts,
I’m starting with BW (7.0) in a sandbox environment where BW and the source system are installed on the same server (same AS). The source system is the SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) 5.0.
BW is working on client 001 while SRM is on client 100 and I want to load data from the SRM into BW.
I’ve configured the RFC connections and the BWREMOTE users with their corresponding profiles in both clients, added a SAP source system (named SRMCLNT100), installed SRM Business Content, replicated the data sources from this source system and everything worked fine.
Now I want to load data from SRM (client 100) into BW (client 001) using standard data sources and extractors. To do this, I’ve created an  InfoPackage in one standard metadata data source (with data, checked through RSA3 on client 100 – source system). I’ve started the data load process, but the monitor says that “no Idocs arrived from the source system” and keeps the status yellow forever.

I didn't see any reason why it's not bringing. Are you doing full extraction or Delta. If delta extraction please check the extractor is delta enabled or not. Some times this may cause problems.

  • How do I change or remove default apps for a given file extension (in Terminal?) without munging date modified on all my old files?

When a program is installed, it seems to be able to do it (sometimes inappropriately if it hijacks file associations without asking) so why can't I?  This is for 10.4.
    Specifically:
    1. Since installing an HP wireless printer, HP not only tries to install a bunch of sales-ware on your machine that you have to carefully opt out of (annoying, but not a problem if forewarned), it changes the default file association for a number of basic file types, listing all sort of existing files as HP printer files. Using Get Info to change the default file type association globally causes it to mark ALL the files of that type as newly updated, munging the file metdata (which HP did NOT do). Most of the stuff on our computer is sorted by last modified, so if there is a way to fix this in Terminal (to simply fix or remove the HP default tag) without changing the date the file was modified, it would help. Note that uninstalling the program that created the default would do this, but I obviously can't do that (and reinstalling HP would have the same effect). So there has to be another way, right?
    2. Since updating iTunes to v.9 a while back, every mp3 is marked as an iTunes file even though iTunes has NO multiple library capability without a wonky reboot using the option key, meaning that if I click on an mp3 downloaded since last update of iTunes, it opens automatically in iTunes and gets added to the SOLE itunes library without asking. (There is no way to toggle between multiple libraries or archive media in separate folders; iPhoto has a similar problem. (Has this been fixed in the latest version of iTunes?) In comparison, Quicktime starts up immediately and does not attempt to create a playlist just because you opened a file and listened to it.
(The iTunes playlists are simply subfolders of the single main library -- and you can't create a new library without doing a wonky procedure by clicking option during startup and telling iTunes to forget where its library is located (includin everything in it) and look up an entirely separate one by hand. So any mp3 file downloaded recently is uploaded to iTunes if you click on it. This wouldn't be problem if it didn't automatically add it to the sole iTunes library just because you clicked on it.)
Besides, all my old mp3s are Quicktime files and they are all archived by date modified. To its credit, ITunes, unlike HP, does NOT hijack older files already on disk and remark them as iTunes files. It only marks newly downloaded files as such.  But if I try and change file association for FUTURE mp3 files using Get Info > "use this program for all files of this type", it munges the file metadata (date modified) for all existing files!
Note that in HP case, it apparently does it at the file exchange preference level (or whatever it's called) since the OS then recognizes every file of those types as an HP file. In the iTunes case, it only does it if you download a new media file or open an existing file in iTunes, but again without changing the date it was last edited.
Since these programs are able to change the default file association without changing the date the file was last edited, it should be reversible in Terminal, correct?  Why does it change "date modified" when you try and correct metadata using Get Info (or sometimes just by clicking an enclosing folder?) Date modified should be a record of when a file itself was edited, not when it was renamed, or other metadata. Otherwise stuff can't be sorted correctly.

The unix commands you need are:
    GetFileInfo
    SetFileInfo
    and maybe find
for cryptic details use the man command
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    man SetFileInfo
You may use the SetFileInfo command to set the file type & the program which will open the file.
