Metadata Display box is empty (PP 4.0.1)

I don't know if anyone else is seeing this issue. In Premiere Pro CS4, the Metadata Display dialog is empty, except for a search box (magnifying glass). This dialog box can be found in the context menu of the Project and Metadata panels. It is used to select which metadata fields you want visible.
Both panels are populated with information. If I try typing a search (like "usage" to get video and/or audio usage info), it closes. As a result, I cannot change the metadata display fields.
This feature definitely worked when I first installed Premiere. I suspect it broke after installing the 4.0.1 patch.
I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a custom built Intel Core Duo E6300/ASUS P5B motherboard, with an EVGA GeForce 8800GT video card (180.48 drivers). Premiere is installed on my Windows drive, and my project and footage are on an external SATA drive. Other CS4 applications installed are Flash and Soundbooth. I also have the CS3 Master Suite previously installed.

I was playing with it, checking it for you on a project with one MXF HVX-200 clip and it just crashed. Haven't ever tried to change my meta data before, no need, unlike you the HVX writes it for me.
Can't help ya man. Might be a coincidence or might be real problem.

Turn off metadata display box when mousing over photos?

When mousing over photos in the viewer or browser, a box pops up next to the cursor showing metadata. I find this very distracting and annoying when editing a photo or confirming faces. In Aperture 2, you could turn it off under preferences, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to turn it off in Aperture 3 (metadata has a separate tab rather than controlling the viewing of metadata under preferences in A2). Hitting the letters Y and U work in the viewer and browser, respectively, but only for one photo - doesn't stop it for good. I've tried messing around with all the other metadata view settings. Any ideas?

Hitting the letter T toggles the display, you can adjust this setting with Command -J.

How do I use metadata text box in Aperture Book

When I hit the button for a text box, I get a text box. Likewise for a new photo box. What I really want is a metadata text box and when I hit that button nothing happens. I have tried it with a photo selected and on a blank page.
How do I use the metadata text box in Aperture books? BTW I am working on a small sized soft cover book.

Do you have a copy of Illustrator installed?
Then just begin at page 1, read it and practice what you read. Step by step.
If you don't understand parts of it, dive into the manual as well or ask a question in this forum. But mind that not everybody has a copy of the Classroom in a book. So you need to ask your questions precisely and post screenshots of your artwork.

Text box not empty conditional statement

I've been asked to develop a survey and, in several places, a
score is given for the completion of text box. However, if there is
no text in the box, then a score of zero should be given.
I thought the best way to do this would be to use a hidden
field with a conditional statement saying "if text box is not empty
then score=4, else score=0.
However, firstly I'm not sure how to write this and secondly,
how do you check if a text box is empty?
I think it really calls for some human input but the client
is quite sure this is how he wants it.
The scores are all going to be inserted into a mysql database
and sorted out there, so there may be some fudge available there
but if php could do something nice in the code, that would be
preferable.

I can dowload but than I can't get in. My download box is empty

Hi Mike,
Smart Folders aren't really folders at all, but really just pointers to Mails that meet certain criteria, if they're empty now there's a setting elsewhere that is likely deleting or removing those Mail after a certain time.
Right click or Control+click on one of those Smart boxes & choose Edit Smart Mailbox, check the criteria out, it may contain something Like If... Last viewed was 30 days or less, in which case they would disappear after not being viewed for 30 days even though you did nothing, the eMails would still be where they were originally though.

File Type Associations box is empty

In Bridge CS4 -- Click on Edit/Preferences/File Type Associations and you should get a list of files. I don't. My file Type Associations box is empty. Starting Bridge by dumping the cache and preferences does not help, the box remains empty. Has anyone ele experienced this? Better yet, does anyone know a possible fix. Thanks to anyone who can ofer any insight.

Nope, I tried that but nothing happened. However, I did discover my bridge associations file had been deleted. I restored it and everything is back to normal. Thanks for your interest.

How to save custom metadata display in CS4.2?

I know this has been asked in the past, but no one has come up with an answer I can find.
Here's what happens: in the project bin, I click Metadata Display, click the Premiere Project Metadata line, unclick the metadata I don't want to see, save the settings as My Setting, and go on with my day. The settings remain the same UNTIL I close the propject and open it back up and all the settings go back to default. So I open the Metadata Display back up from the project bin to reload my saved, custom settings...the (custom) bar is greyed out and not selectable, so I have to go through and do this all over.
Essentially, Premiere is NOT saving the custom settings. Why is this happening? It worked when I had 4.1. What's going on?

Suddenly my trash box is empty and when I delete an e-mail it does not appear in the trash anymore

Just recently I've been receiving spam and e-mails not addressed to me. My "trash box" is empty and when I delete an e-mail it doesn't move to the trash box. I haven't made any changes. I don't appear to have a "junk" box and when I delete junk mail is just disappears.

CONTACT GROUPS BOX is EMPTY in Sync Window for iPhone

Hi,
I go to the Info tab for my iPhone in iTunes to select what I want to sync.
In the Sync Contacts section I have two choices: All Contacts or Selected Groups. But Selected Groups is greyed-out and the box is empty.
I have 6 Contact folders in Outlook but none of them appear in the box so I can't select one.
How do I get them to appear in the box so I can select just one of them?

Hmmm. If you upgraded in the course of an itunes reinstall, that can sometimes set off a security software interaction. The security software has to update its rules for the new version of iTunes and so forth, and so there's an opportunity for something to start going wrong along those lines after an update.
I'd quickly check through your Norton firewall rules. Quit iTunes before doing the checking.
Is there a rule for iTunes in your Norton at the moment? If not, I'd create one, allowing full access to the internet.
If there is a rule, but it isn't allowing full access, I'd change it so that it does have full access.
If there is a rule allowing full access, I'd delete the rule and add a new one (allowing full access).
After creating and/or amending the rules, try rebooting the PC and then launching iTunes. Are you still getting the same error messages and problems?

What are the settings for clearing history when Firefox closes?
Make sure that you do not clear the Browsing Cache as that will remove the thumbnails that are stored in it.

Metadata display panels slow / staggering?

To those who might know:
I am trying out Aperture 2 using the sample files on a decent rig (which also has the graphics card upgrade of the nVidia 8800 GT).
When I have images with metadata selected (e.g., the 'Bird types' folder under the 'Nature' project) and then click on one of the metadata display buttons at the base of the Metadata inspector (e.g., Keywords, EXIF, IPTC, etc.) - the selected metadata panel moves up into view slowly in a sort of stuttering motion. The panels drop smoothly down out of view, just coming up into view are they slow and stuttering.
It does not matter which image is selected in the filmstrip or which folder of images in the Project inspector is selected.
Is this normal behavior with these individual metadata panels for anyone else?
I use some CS4 products which include Bridge CS4 and it does not exhibit any stuttering in displaying its panels at all on this system. I am trying to decide whether or not to move away from a Bridge / ACR workflow, but this Aperture performance does not seem quite right for an Apple product.
Additionally, all other software installed runs fine.
I do not consider myself to be a professional photographer (more of a seriously interested hobbiest at home), but I am shooting more RAW when the situation permits.
Any insights welcome.
Note - I did not try Aperture 2 on 10.5.8 and I have done a clean install of 10.6 and immediately ran the downloaded stand-alone 10.6.1 installer prior to installing additional software. No tweaks to the system and running Aperture 2.1.4.

PE9 working except Catalog Manger Dialog Box is empty.

PE9 working correctly in W7 Prof with 9000 images and tags showing correctly.
Except Catalog Manger Dialog Box is empty for all three positions for choice of Catalog and actions are greyed out.
The Custom Catalog position is selected to see all the images. Above the Dialog box window it gives the path to the My Catalog JKC folder (C:\Photoshop Catalogs\ My Catalog JKC) alongside the Browse button.
Because the Dialog Box is empty all the action buttons are greyed out and I am unable to Move the Catalog.
I need to find a way to get My Catolog JKC to show in the Dialog Box so that I can move it.
Help appreciated!

Ken, thanks for reply. By trial and error. I opened the My Catalog JKC folder and clicked on the Catalog.pse9db file and that brought all the photos and tags back into Organiser. I assumed I had forced PE9 to use the My Catalog JKC folder.
I tried another way. I again created a new catalog My Catalog TEST which appeared in the Dialog Box. I then navigated to the My Catalog TEST folder using the path given in system info. I then copied all the files from the My Catalog JKC folder into the My Catalog TEST folder replacing all the files already there plus adding some new ones. When I reopened Organiser all my photos were there but the Catalog Manager Dialog Box was again empty. The folder path next to Browse had reverted back to the My Catalog JKC path. I could not see My Catalog TEST in any of the three options for Catalog location. However the systen info still gives the path to the catalog as the original path to Catalog TEST! I still cannot see the catalog in the dialog box so cannot perform any of the tasks. So back to square one!
