After having no internet for over 24hrs, my IPad has completely shut down. I have tried everything I can think of, including a reset but think that was a really bad move!! Any ideas for how to get my pad back? Simple words please..I am not a pro AT ALL.

My internet was down for over 24hrs after a storm. During that time, my IPad completely shut down and I can't get it going again. I studied the manual but couldn't find a similar topic. I reset it and now it is totally goofed up.
Does anyone have any ideas or should I just take it to an Apple store and pay?? Any solutions you may have, PLEASE use simple words as I am not a pro, by any means....probably why I'm in this situation.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Meaning of: feature was simple feature call but got receiver instead of null

I implemented my own XbaseInterpreter. I forked the context in my subclass and added some new values. Lets say one of the values has type X.
When I call the evaluate method with my XBlockExpression and the forked context I get the exception
"feature was simple feature call but got receiver instead of null. Receiver: <here the instance of X>
What am I doing wrong?

I understand the first part of your answer. In my case the Xbase interpreter tries to assign an object to a variable where the interpreter thinks the left side of the equation is void which leads to the given message "feature was simple feature..."
But I do not understand how this can happen in my case.
I have an XBlockExpression with this content:
val x = 1
return x == 1
The error occurs for the variable declaration when the interpreter tries to assign the integer to the left side.
What am I missing?
Do I have to initialize the evaluation context?
The strange thing is that if I start the interpreter by initializing it with the standalone setup within Eclipse (which is not recommended) I do not get the above mention exception at all ( I do get class cast exceptions because of including the standalone setup but the expression is interpreted correctly).
What is the difference between the standalone setup and the "normal" Eclipse runimte for interpreting expressions?

He reminds me of a candidate I had the ... priviledge? ... of interviewing for a web developer position not too long ago. I asked him to "reverse the characters in a string, i.e. star = rats" using his language of choice. He stands, walks to the white-board and starts to write some stuff. At that time, I turned to my boss and we start making comments to each other about the guys resume and discussing some of our current workload, giving him time to work this code out on the board. A few minutes (5 - 10) go by and I glance up to see that he has written a single line of code (and that his hands are covered in dry erase marker from having scrubbed multiple attempts off the board). His code (I believe it as a stab at either php or javascript) read:
"reverse_string('star');"
I looked at my boss, he looked at me ... we both blinked a couple of times and then I explained, "no - I need you to implement the reverse_string method. I want you to write the code that does the actual reversing."
"Oh. Yeah, I can't do that."

This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry that nothing works. I was going to mention holding down the power button and doing a force shutdown but you already did that. You might need to take it into the Apple store. I don't know if booting into safe mode would help. You would have to turn off the machine again, hit the start button and hold down the shift key after you hear the tone, but normally you would let go of the shift key when you see the apple logo and spining wheel. Maybe by holding down the shift key after you here the tone will cause the screen to come back on? The other option is to start up from the 'install disk' if your machine came with one. You would insert the disk, then shut down the computer, and hold down the C key right after hitting the start button.

Simple Word Processor.

Hello everyone.
I am looking for a simple word processor like OS X's Bean for OS 9. Is there such a thing? I have a CD w/ Macwrite Pro, Writenow, WordPerfect, and MS Word. I also have all the Clarisworks and Appleworks versions. I need to do a lot of word processing, w/ tables, and I don't know how to use the aforementioned programs. I only have 10.5 Retail, and I don't want to run that on this machine. (I don't think it will install anyway.) Please don't tell me to upgrade to Tiger and run Bean because that is not an option. (Believe me, I'd love to!)

WordPerfect is a word processing application. At the height of its popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was the de facto standard word processor, but has since been eclipsed in sales by Microsoft Word. WordPerfect version 3.5e for Mac has been made freeware by Corel, and can be downloaded here http://main.system7today.com/software/wordperfect/wordperfect.html . It is a great, free alternative to Microsoft Word!

I need some help, I´m trying to create a PDF from word with custom metadata in xml. Anyone know how to do?
All standard data is in the PDF, but not the custom.

Any of the data that you add to the Word doc via the Properties dialog will end up in the PDF file in both the XMP Metadata Stream and the Document Information Dictionary metadata.What is it exactly that you are trying to add?

Metadata features in filter?

As I may see there were some discussions about keywords and filter organizing, but still some points are not clear for me. Could anyone explain: is there a possibility to make a search through metadata (other than Ctrl+F) by including any metadata properties to the filter? For example, i work a lot with PDFs and want to search by Author(s) or Copyright or other properties from metadata, the same as i do by keywords. May i include Autor (or other features from metadata) to the filter list? one solution is to include authors' names to keywords, but may be something more smart?

There is a lot of confusion on the Filter function. The filter only works on the folder displayed on the screen. THe Filter choices are supposedly generated according to the images displayed. So your best bet would be to have the desired metadata displayed in the metadata panel and see if the filter categories will reflect that.
Filter will order the thumbs on the screen, while Find will find images across folders and display results. In addition Filter can only use one criteria at a time, while Find can search with multiple criteria.

their drivers should be available through Apple Software Updates:

However that may be limited to certain models of printers or scanners that

Yet a driver for ancient Leopard 10.5.x may not be suitable for Mavericks 10.9.x

Search in Mail doesn't find simple words in message subject - why?

I've not found Mail's search tool to be very useful.
Searching for "Itinerary" does NOT find my flight itineraries in the Gmail mailbox. However putting a space in front of the word, as in " Itinerary" will find the messages I'm looking for. It is nice to have stumbled upon this work around to some poor algorithm or bad regular-expression used in the search function. However I'd rather not have to out smart the tool to get what I'm looking for.
Do other's see this behavior?
It it an interaction with Gmail & Apple mail?
Is it a misconfigured setting somewhere?
Can I fix this some how?

Used to see it back in Leopard as I recall. Working great these days.
You might try forcing Spotlight to reindex...drag the directory that contains your mail data into the Spotlight exclude list, and then back out. Then wait for Spotlight to finish crawling...it is busy when you see a small dot in the center of the spotlight icon, top right.

Trouble Converting Simple Word Document

Hello,
I have tried several times at different points of the day to create a PDF out of my Word document that is about 1 MB in size. It uploads to the site with no problem but when I try to convert it gives me this message:
Acrobat.com does not support converting this file type to PDF.

There is nothing unusual about the Word document, it is a .doc from Word 2003 and I have made other PDFs in the past with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry you're having trouble; it looks like our server is having a hard time recognizing that your file is, in fact, a Word document. Can you verify that the document opens in Word from your desktop?

Simple word processing tools

Would someone please tell me how to highlight a selected word with a desired color? I have not been able to find a button and I'm sure it must be there.
Also, is there a way to get Appleworks word processing to underline misspelled words as you go along as is done in Microsoft Word? I can't find that option.

I assume by 'highlight a word' you mean enclose it in a coloured box? To do this:
1. Click on the rectangle tool in the toolbar.
2. Click on the 'line weight palette button' (second from the bottom, to the right of the 'T') and select 'none'.
3. Click on the fill button (second above the 'T').
4. In the colour palette (fifth up from the bottom) select a suitable colour.
5. Dragging with the mouse, draw a rectangle over the word concerned.
6. From the 'Arrange' menu select 'move to back'.
Note that if you amend the text prior to this word you will have to move the rectangle to match.

Simple Word Search

Hi all wonder if you can help me. I'm trying to write a little word search style game in java swing. However i'm a little confused as how to start. I want to be able to draw a grid with letters manually placed in it, so something like this:-

h e l l o w o r l d
a b c a b c d e f
a b c a b c d e f
I want each grid square to have a specific x and y co-ordinate so say h in the grid above would be at co-ordinate [1,1] and e would be [1,2], etc.
If someone could give me a bit of advice on how to get started on this, i would be most grateful!
