Metadata for Nikon D5200.

I can't view my metadata for my Nikon DD5200 in PSE12.  I have the 8.0 plugin installed though.  File info in PSE10 allowed me to view everything (shutter speed, ISO, focal length, etc.), but is blank in PSE12.  Why?

The D5200 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3

  • Read raw files for nikon d5200 camera

I have given up using raw files for several Nikon bodies such as the d5200 on Adobe software since Adobe no longer supports these files even with the updates that are supposed to support these files.  I can open the raw files fine using Nikon software to work on them and then save them as a tiff or jpeg to be used in photoshop, but this seems rather time consuming plus I lose the advantage of working on raw files in Photoshop.  You would think that a company like Adobe would make it easy to open raw files for all cameras.  Some bodies like the Nikon d300 raw files still work fine on Adobe software.

ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) versions are specific to different versions of Photoshop.
According to this link on Adobe's website regarding supported cameras
The Nikon 5200 required at least ACR 7.3, but you need Photoshop CS6 to run ACR 7.3 It won't work with older versions of Photoshop.

You can download the latest version of DNG Converter and convert your 5200 files to DNGs that can then be opened in earlier versions of Photoshop.

Here is the link for Mac: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh
The DNG Converter only works on folders of files, don't try to select an individual file to convert, Choose the FOLDER.

  • Support in Elements 10 for RAW files from Nikon D5200.

I recently purchased a Nikon D5200. Elements 10 will not recognize NEF files from this camera. Has anyone else had this problem?

Everyone with PSE 10 has that problem. You need to do one of three things:
    1. Use the nikon software to convert your raw files and only send the edited tiffs you create to PSE.
    2. Upgrade to PSE 11.
    3. Download the free DNG converter from adobe's website and use that to convert your nefs to a format your version of the raw converter can use.

  • Lightroom 4 support for Nikon d7100

What am I to do with my photos if Lightroom 4.4 does not include support for Nikon d7100?

After a few false starts, I've successfully brought RAW files into Lightroom 4, by using a method that basically tells Lightroom that the camera is a Nikon D5200, which apparently has the same DX 24 megapixel format.
    Check out the site below:
    http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/graphics-programs-photo-gallery/320908-how-open-d7100-r aw-files-lightroom-4-a.html
    1. Download a free copy of exiftool and install
    2. Copy your NEF files to a directory specifically for changing the file metadata to say D5200. Only put those NEF files in this directory, nothing else.
    3. Run the program as described in the link above, specifying the exact location of the directory with your copied NEF files. Very important: for it to work if there are any spaces in your directory name, you must put quotation marks on either side of the directory location or it won't find the directory. I also found that all details, including exact spacing, is important in the command. So after "Nikon D5200" have a space before -ext. (Feels like being back to the C prompt days!)
If it finds your directory and it runs properly, the original .NEF files are renamed .NEF_original, and the new files that should work in Lightroom are named .NEF. My guess is that if the command doesn't run properly you could rename your original files back. But it's much safer and quicker to copy the files from your memory card to your hard drive, and if anything doesn't work right or creates unreadable files, just delete the files in the new directory and try again with new original copies.
I did this on a Mac, but should work as well on a PC. For Mac users who haven't used it, Terminal is an app that comes with the Mac. Just find the terminal app, open it, and put in the command line shown in the link,  referencing the directory you've put the files in in quotes.
    Good luck!

  • Why Aperture 3 is not detecting  all Exposure Program use by my Nikon D5200

Hi there ! I just wanted to know why Aperture 3 is not detecting  Exposure Program use by my Nikon D5200 camera in my metadata photos ?   It only detects Aperture Mode and Shutther Mode. I should say that using Adobe's Light Room detects all Esposure Programs / Scenery / Effects so the metadadata is there.
    Thanks in advance,

I have doubt why my below program's thread is not synchronized.A thread can't be synchronized; a method or a code block can.
Whereas both the thread t1 and t2 shares same object called 't'.So? There is nothing in test that is shared between the two except the method, and that is synchronized, which prevents t1 and t2 from executing it at the same time. What you can't know is whether t1 or t2 will execute first (although t1 probably will more often, simply because it was started first and will hit method() very quickly).
But if I use the same program by implementing runnable interface instead of extending Thread class, its working fine(ie both thread are synchronized)As isocdev said, I suggest you post the version that uses Runnable as well (and please use code tags as he suggested; for what you've already posted I suggest you just edit the post).

  • Nikon D5200 - Convert NEF (14bit) into DNG (only 12bit?!)

    Hello,
I have a problem concerning the DNG converting process of my NEF (RAW) files of my Nikon D5200 to DNG files. NEF file should have 14 bit color space (according to the manual`s on p. 234 - - http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/D5200RM_NT(11)01.pdf - the camera does ONLY capture NEF file as 14 bit file, not in 12 bit files; there is no setting like in den D7100 to change this e.g. to 12 bit). My problem in lightroom is that when I convert my NEFs in lightroom in DNGs it shows me that the DNGs are only 12 bit?! If I go to library > right toolbar > metadata > DNG > "Bit pro sample" it says 12 and NOT 14
How could that be? Is there any chance to fix this and if so, which way to correct this?
    Many thanks for your help!

I read the EXIF data with RawDigger (many thanks to ssprengel!) and it seems that the "bits per sample" (RawDigger > EXIF) are the SAME in ALL DNG files (= 16 bit), no matter if I converted a 12 bit lossy or lossless or a 14 bit lossy or lossless NEF file. What I was able to seen in the EXIF data of the DNG files was if the "NEF compression" is lossy or lossless, although is was a DNG file. So I was able to "reconstruct" if this DNG file was once (= before the conversion) a lossy or lossless NEF file, but nit if it was once a 14bit or 12bit NEF file.
As soon as I opened the NEF file in RawDigger I was able to read if the file is a 12 bit lossy, 12 bit lossless, 14 bit lossy, 14 bit lossy. But when I compared the e.g. 12 bit lossless NEF file with the equivalent DNG file, I WAS NOT ABLE to see any difference in terms of quality. Both are exactly the same in terms of their image quality, the e.g. 12 bit lossless NEF file and the converted DNG file. The only differnce between the both is size. The equivalent DNG files are a lot smaller (and it seems the Adobe has a much better compression algorithmus without compromising the image quality):
    12 bit lossy NEF (10,9 MB)               = equivalent DNG (7,4 MB)            --> 32% less
    12 bit lossless NEF (12,2 MB)          = equivalent DNG (7,5 MB)            --> 39% less
    14 bit lossy NEF (13,8 MB)               = equivalent DNG (12,2 MB)          --> 12% less
    14 bit lossless NEF (16,2 MB)          = equivalent DNG (12,7 MB)          --> 22% less
So, to summarize, the good news is that no matter what option you chose to save your NEFs in your camera (12 bit lossy, 12 bit lossless, 14 bit lossy, 14 bit lossy) when you convert them in DNGs the quality DOES NOT change. The only downfall is that the metadata in lightroom is somewhat missleading and confusing:
12 bit lossy NEF           = 10 "bits per sample" DNG (in lightroom`s metadata: right toolbar > metadata > DNG), but exactly the same image quality as the 12 bit lossy NEF
12 bit lossless NEF      = 12 "bits per sample" DNG (in lightroom`s metadata: right toolbar > metadata > DNG), but exactly the same image quality as the 12 bit lossless NEF
14 bit lossy NEF           = 12 "bits per sample" DNG (in lightroom`s metadata: right toolbar > metadata > DNG), but exactly the same image quality as the 14 bit lossy NEF
14 bit lossless NEF       = 14 "bits per sample" DNG (in lightroom`s metadata: right toolbar > metadata > DNG), but exactly the same image quality as the 14 bit lossless NEF
Many thanks to all of you and hopefully this help someone who has the same "troubles".

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw Update: unable to open Nikon D5200 Raw files

I have a Nikon D5200, so I cannot view my raw files (.NEF) files in photoshop CS3 and I downloaded the Camera Raw 4.6 update, and installed it using the manual installation instructions found here: Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 4.6 update. After restarting photoshop and attempting to open a .NEF file, I still receive the error "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. I have also tried previous updates (4.5 and 4.4.1) and they have also not worked. How can I fix this?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The D5200 is supported in Camera Raw 7.3 and later. Older versions of Camera Raw cannot read D5200 Raw files.
Raw 7.3 is only compatible with CS6, CC or CC 2014
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So you'll never be able to open Raw D5200 files in CS3.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
Choices: buy CS6 or join the Cloud.
Free alternative: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all D5200 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

  • Using Nikon D5200 NEF images in PSE

    Hi
I currently have PSE8 which will not read the NEF images from my Nikon D5200. I know that I can use the Adobe DNG Convertor 7.3 to convert them to DNG outside of PSE8 then work with the DNG images in PSE8. However, I would prefer, if possible, to work directly with the NEF images as a plugin.
    This article:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
states that the current PSE11 can only support the Raw Camera Plugin up to 7.2. This article:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
indicates that the Nikon D5200 requires the Raw Camera Plugin 7.3.
Q1 - Based on the above am I therefore correct that it is not currently possible to use Nikon D5200 NEF images directly in any currently available PSE?
Q2 - If, the answer to Q1 is Yes does anyone have a feel for whether its likely in the next version of PSE? Or would I have to save up for the full Photoshop program to do what I want?
    Thanks

The first link is out of date.
Yes, photoshop elements 11 supports camera raw 7.3
You should be able to update pse 11 to camera raw 7.3 by going to Help>Updates from within the pse 11 editor if you should decide to trial and/or purchase pse11.

  • Nikon D5200 raw files will not open in PSE 11

I recently purchased a Nikon D5200 and I could not open the raw files in Elements 9. I downloaded all updates for Camera Raw and it still did not work. I found a question/answer with the same problem and it recommended updating the DNG Converter or purchasing Elements 11. I did both and I still get a message that my camera model is not supported by the Camera Raw version I have. I verified per the website it is supported. Why can't I open my files?

Nikon Transfer V1.x corrupts newer Nikon camera images as far as reading with Adobe software.  ViewNX2 should be ok, as long as it’s the newest version.
Can you upload one of your non-working images to www.dropbox.com and post a public download link for it, so others can try, and see if it works on their systems or not?  This would help narrow down if it is something wrong with the Adobe software install on your computer or something wrong with the image data in the NEF, itself.

I'm having troubles converting my raw files from Nikon D5200 (NEF) to DNG. I tried using Lightroom 4, but it didn't identify the folder containing the files. So i downloaded the latest DNG converter but that too didn't identify the files kept in the folder location. So I downloaded DNG converter v7.3 for D5200. I probably missed this detail in what you’ve posted, but do you see the thumbnails of the three cameras’ raw files in Finder if you don’t convert to DNG?
What has happened in the past is that the Apple raw interpreter doesn’t read thumbnails of DNGs it doesn’t like, where at least one thing it didn’t used to like was embedded lens corrections for mirrorless cameras.  Are the Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless—meaning there is no optical viewfinder and everything is seen on an LCD screen or perhaps an electronic view finder?  If so the reason these are different is that the camera is doing the lens distortion corrections automatically and this information is stored in the raw files and in the DNGs but Apple doesn’t know how to use these embedded lens corrections or doesn’t know how to read the newer DNG spec that does allow for this information to be embedded in the DNG, at least.
Apple could just extract the embedded jpg preview and ignore the other parts of the file it doesn’t understand, but it apparently doesn’t do this.
What I’m not sure about is if the Apple raw interpreter still has this problem or if you’re on an older system without the latest updates for camera raw decoding by Apple.
