Metadata rejected ("3.2 Apps with placeholder text will be rejected")
Hi everybody,
I have a problem with Apple but I hope that I can find someone here who has faced the same matter and can help me!
Some weeks ago I sent my first app (the publication is a single-app catalogue) to iTunes Connect and everything was smooth (it has been accepted and placed in the App Store in 5 days).
Instead last week I sent another similar publication (a single-app catalogue created in the same way as the first one) but the app has been rejeceted for this reason:
3.2: Apps with placeholder text will be rejected
Oct 21, 2011 03:38 PM. From Apple.
3.2
We found that your app and/or its metadata does not appear to include final content, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
Specifically, we noticed that the app metadata does not include a description of the app's features.
While your iTunes Connect Application State will show as Metadata Rejected, we do NOT require a new binary if you only need to change your metadata. (A new binary is required only when you have to also make changes within the app.)
If you only need to change your metadata, please visit iTunes Connect, Manage Your Applications, and revise the appropriate metadata values or settings, then click Save. After saving, click "Save," then click "Submit New Metadata" in the top right.
Actually I do not understand what they mean with "placeholder text" but above all I would like to ask to someone expert - I rely on BOB! - (I am a newby to DPS and Apple) if this means that I have to re-create from the start the app from the Folio Builder changing something in Indesign or if they just mean I have to modify something in iTunes Connect without touching the binary file.
I am in a great confusion because they say the "app metadata" does not include a description of the app's features but I do not know how can I change the "metadata" within the app (in fact I believe that when they refer to the "app metadata" the mean the "metadata" inside the app and not the metadata that I add in iTunes Connect).
The doubt that I have now is that maybe the last update of the Viewer Builder or of the Folio Builder has changed something that now generates this issue?
Of course I am contacting also Apple for this issue, but in the meanwhile it would be a relief for me to hear a suggestion from here!
Thank you to anyone for any reply!app metadata is the description text you enter while adding your app into
iTunes connect.
as is in the statement, for doing metadata changes, you don't need to submit
a new binary (aka .zip file containing your folio)
add more details of the feature of you app into the description in iTunes
connect aand you should be fine.
there is no 'metadata' inside tje binary of your app that you can change.
but Bob can add sth. to this eventually.

Keyword and Metadata Integration throughout Adobe Modules
Thanks! That's helpful.
What I mean by "common metadata", is a unified, updated, most current metadata, which I could update in each program. That is without overwriting the metadata, but appending new keywords to the metadata I created in the previous program.
I use Bridge, then Lightroom and finally Photoshop. That's the regular workflow: Bridge for preliminary sorting and and adding some keywords; Lightroom for organizing and picking the best images; finally, Photoshop for processing. I got Photoshop Elements on trial. Doesn't work for my purposes.
I need to share and update the metadata / keywords when I go from one program into another. Can't retrieve metadata I set up in Bridge into Lightroom. Same happens with Photoshop, where I can't retrieve keywords I add in Lightroom. It's tedious to write up the keywords again.
Thanks for your efforts! -

Hi All,
My DB version is 10.1.0.2 and I've upgraded the same to

I continued with "Yes" and I chose the storage option as
"Regular or Cluster File system". In the next step -<strong>Specify Tablespace
information</strong>, I chose to install it in the C:\ , where there was approx 18GB
of free space. Yet, I encountered the following error:
<h5>

decreasing the size. I further tried using another directory where there was
11GB of free space. It still didn't work.
Please HELP!

Appending metadata (instead of overwriting it) with template?
We have thousands of images we had a student intern tag with IPTC Core metadata. Some of what he did is good, for instance, his titles and captions are spot on. But some things, like Creator fields and copyright status are all over the place (my fault for not saying exactly what we wanted in those fields). I've created a metadata template in Bridge with just those fields I want to update and standardize checked, and things like caption and title left unchecked (image of template). I had hoped that when I applied it to his images, just those fields I had checked would have their information overwritten and those that were left unchecked would be left unaltered. Instead what I'm finding is that the ones I've checked are being updated like I want, but the ones left unchecked are being changed to blank entries. Not good, in fact, that's bad, as it represents a whole lot of work down the drain. Fortunately I made a copy of the images the student updated and have been experimenting on the copies, so nothing is lost yet, but I'm no closer to solving the problem. Is there a way to do this, or do I need to do them one at a time? Thanks for any insight you can give!
The long and the short of it is Adobe is going to do away with my Caption (Description) created in IrfanView no matter what I do. Doesn't even recognize it, even though they are there when I open the image(s) in IrfanView. If I add the same information in via Bridge and then open it in IrfanView, it shows up exactly as it did if I had just created it in IrfanView. My confusion stems from the fact that some of the images were tagged in Adobe and some in IrfanView, so there appeared to be no rhyme or reason as to what was going on and why some times it overwrote the settings and other times it did not. To make matters worse, no all of IrfanView's tags get overwritten. Creator, for instance, remains, unless I tell Bridge to Replace instead of Append. If I say replace, it replaces that field with whatever I have in the template. If I say append, it adds what's in the template alongside what was added in IrfanView.
The thing is, these are all being tagged to be added to a Gallery Server Pro system, which can extract the metadata and use it to make the galleries searchable, and Gallery Server Pro doesn't care which program added the data, it sees them both just fine. So now I'm thinking about just using IrfanView and eschewing adobe altogether. Unfortunately, Adobe is easier to use, but if I go that route all 1600 images will have to have their captions re-added in Adobe.
I need a drink. -
Copy GPS Metadata Back into Photoshop TIFFs with Bridge Scripting
I've published a sample script on the Bridge blog about metadata scripting with Bridge and AdobeXMPScript -- specifically the script deals with GPS metadata and automation that synchronizes work done by both Bridge and Photoshop.
Here is the link:

Enjoy!
-DavidI couldn't read all through your post as I am jetting out of here.
Buy this:

and install it. It's relatively cheap. Screen shot is from Windows Explorer.
Handles ID, PSD, etc., files as well. Though the preview uses greeked text for the most part for the ID files.

Export Metadata for Deski Report failed with Metadata Integrator
Hi everybody,
We installed 2 weeks ago BusinessObject Data Integrator 3.0. As we also have BusinessObject XI 3.0, we have installed the component Metadata Integrator on our BOXI 3.0 server. We configured it successfully and the Metadata Integrator program was added to our BOXI repository.
Then, we executed the Metadata Integrator program from the CMC console. The job run successfully but when we looked at the log file we realized that the program was not able to create the metadata for the BO Deski reports in our BODI repository whereas it was able to do it for our BO Universes. Then when we access the Impact and Lineage Analysis tool from the BODI management console, we can only see the metadata for our BO Universes but not for our Deski reports !!

Any ideas ?!Helo,
The "Member/Alias" problem is solved by using the command "REPALIASMBR" and the "parent/child" is solved in two steps:
1 - Use the command "INDENTGEN" to indent on your flat file
2 - Run an custom script (in my case PERL) on your file to transform that "indent" into parent child (the member indented is the parent of the previous ones)
Another solution is to use "OlapUnderground Outline Extractor" that do all that work for you.

hope that helps.

Replace property metadata values with icons
Hello everybody,
We have created a new property metadata with specific allowed values. Then we created a new layout set to list a repository including that metadata. We are wondering if there is a way to replace the specific metadata values in the list with a set of icons to improve the look and feel.
Best regards,
Virgilio RuizHi Virgilio
Here a description how to use one of the standard property renderers that touches your needs:

If it does not cover your needs, you should go for development as suggested by Robert.

How to make Image/size/resolution agree with metadata resolution?
After scanning the help file a bit and searching thru this forum a bit with `metadata resolution' as search criteria, I'm still pretty confused about how it is supposed to work.. I may have never actually found the right part of the help file.
Cutting to the chase: How can I make the resolution reported by the metadata tab for resolution agree with what is reported inside photoshop at Image/size resolution. I didn't see any way to set how res is reported in bridge.
I see many pictures reported in metadata as 72 ppi for resolution and reported in photoshop as 200 pixel/inch
They do BOTH mean pixels per inch right? If so, or really even if they don't how can I get the two reports to show the same resolution?
There are too many processes that depend on knowing res in advance of opening a file for that to be so far divergent.Jingshu Li wrote:
Some JPG or Tiff with Camera raw settings will be opened in ACR firstly when you double click them. In ACR workflow option (the bottom in the ACR dialog) the resolution value isn’t same with that in Bridge (metadata panel). If you go ahead to open the image in PS by clicking ‘Open Image’ button in ACR dialog and then check the image size from Image -> Image Size in PS, the resolution will be same with ACR (actually it is changed by ACR).
If disable ACR support for JPG and Tiff in Bridge (Open Camera Raw Preferences in Bridge and choose ‘Disable JPEG support’ or ‘Disable TIFF support’ for ‘JPEG and TIFF Handling’), JPG or TIFF files will be opened by PS directly and the resolution matches between Bridge and PS. I believe this is an ACR bug.
So what file types are you using and if they’re opened by ACR firstly in your workflow?
The files are *.jpg. But I don't see where camera raw comes in. These are common jpg files. I'm opening them by double click in bridge.
Any way I did disable jpg and tiff in the Camera Raw preferences as you suggested. At Jpeg and tiff handling, both disabled. and restared bridge.
However, I see no improvment.
For example, a file reporting 72 ppi in bridge when opened in photoshop ... Images/size resolution reports 480 pixels/inch.
There is obviously some kind of miss handling that has been done to these files for them to have such a high resolution. I suspect they may have been handled at Walgreens or Walmart... or similar since I had something very similar happen to me once when I had a bunch of pictures developed at Walgreens and they cam back with resolutions like that, when I know the camera would have given them something way less.
But I don't see how any of that should be effecting Bridges inability to get the resolution right.
Here is another example: some.jpg
It appears that bridge is showing an unusually huge file size in inches, to account for the reported 72 ppi.
Bridge:
Size: ...............1.14mb
Dimensions:.....1496x1064
Dimensions in
inches ............20.8x26.7
Resolution: .....72 ppi
===========================
Photoshop:
pixels
Width 1496
height 2064
Document size
inches
width 4.987
height 6.88
Resolution 300
Do you have further suggestions? -
Issue with Metadata when importing 30K images from Photoshop Elements 7
I'm a new mac user and am moving ~30k images from my PC to my mac. I have photoshop elements 7 that I use on the pc and am moving everything over to Aperture. I maintain all of my organization on the PC using "key words". I made sure to move all of the metadata over to the Mac with the images. However, I would say approx 5,000-10,000 of the images have the wrong Metadata. For example, a key-word "Vacation" is showing up on an image that should say "Christmas". This is just an example and it's creating major issues with my smart albums. The wrong images are in the wrong albums. Help!?!?
Hi Shellie
Is anyone familiar with PSEDBTOOL? I've been told it will do a good job applying metadata to files inside PSE but I'm afraid to run it and have it screw up my current library.
I'm not familiar with that tool. What I will say is that your caution is well founded. If you do try to run anything like that on the PC side, ensure first that you have a backup of any data that might be modified - and that you (a) know how to restore from the backup in case anything goes pear-shaped and (b) you've actually tested your backup (by doing a restore) and are confident with its integrity.
One other thought has occurred to me since earlier. Let's try a different tool...
– Locate one of your problematic master files - on the Mac side - as exported from PhotoShop Elephants.
– Open it in Preview. (It lives in the Applications folder.)
– Select +Tools > Show Inspector+ (if the Inspector is not already showing from an earlier session).
– Click on the Inspector icon which resembles a simplified traditional magnifying glass.
That displays the keywords in the file.
How do they compare with your expectations (from PSE)? How do they compare with what's showing in Aperture?
This won't solve the problem, but it might just shed some more light on the problem.

How does metadata work with Bridge and Premiere?
We are trying to figure out how to start using metadata with bridge. But it doesnt seem to work. I can load an avi file into premiere and change the metadata fields for description or scene or log or whatever, when i load it into premiere i see that data, when i look at it in bridge i don't see any of the metadata.
I can go into bridge and edit the metadata for a file. and when i look at it in bridge it is always there. but looking at that same file in premiere there is no metadata there.
we have 8 premiere workstations on a fibrechannel network solution we edit with. we want to have about 5TB of stock video clips available with metadata that every machine can search and use in projects.I know nothing about Premiere, but perhaps they use different methods to store data. With Bridge it puts the metadata on the file. With some programs like PS Elements it puts the metadata in a table. With PSE one can select "write metadata to file" and solve problem. Check with Premiere to see how data is stored.
If you are entering keywords a good check is to look with Windows Explorer and see it there are any "tags" listed after entering it in Premiere. WE and Bridge read the same. -
Metadata on urlRessource with xml ?
Hello,
I'd like to know if it's possible to add Metadata to an URLRessource but with a flashvars or configuration.xml instead of AS3 (I'm using SMP) ?
Best regardsThe Strobe Media Playback documentation contains some good info on how to set Plugin resource metadata using flashvars but not content resource metadata. Here's how I do it:
var parameters =
{ id: "1"
, src: "http://example.com/resource.php"
, src_namespace: "http://www.example.com/exampleplugin/1.0"
, src_metadataKey: "metadataValue"
, streamType: "liveOrRecorded"
, plugin_ExamplePlugin: "http://example.com/ExamplePlugin.swf"
, autoPlay: "true"
, width: "640"
, height: "480"
, controlBarAutoHide: "false"
, controlBarPosition: "bottom"
, poster: "images/poster.png"
Where:
- src_namespace : the namespace you want SMP to use when it attaches the
metadata to the resource. Obviously, the plugin dictates this.
- src_metadataKey : the "metadataKey" is the actual key you want SMP to use
when it attaches the resource metadata.
For example this might be "src_authKey", the "src_" tells SMP that this is a
resource metadata key, it will use key of "authKey" to set the metadata.
- "metadataValue" : is the actual value of the key/value pair
representing resource metadata.

Print metadata with contact sheet, or alone?
Hi, I am taking a beginner's digital photo class and we have weekly assignments to bring a contact sheet to class, with metadata next to the photo.
I am on an iMac G4 that is NOT an intel mac so I cannot use picasa, which I'm told is the easiest way. I found how to print a contact sheet in iPhoto but it will not add the photo name or the metadata.
So, I tried with my Adobe Photoshop elements and I am not sure how to do this. I found my way to 'bridge' where I can see the metadata but for the life of me, I have no idea how to print the contact sheet with the metadata, as the instructor has requested.
Can anyone help a beginner find her way? Is this doable in PS Elements?
Thanks for any help and/or guidance anyone is willing to give.
MichelleThe short answer is that it can be done with InDesign CS3 via a script someone wrote:
