Metadata issues - wrong cover art, missing ratings etc

Hi,
I just bought a new iPhone 4S and upon setting up Home Sharing, I noticed that when I connect to my shared library albums and movies are displayed with incorrect cover art. In addition, the watched / unwatched status (the blue dot) for movies is wrong.
When playing music tracks, no ratings are displayed on the iPhone.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour and do you know of a fix?

I am also having this issue, please fix this Apple, it all worked so well before the iOS5 update.
Ive tried fresh installs and restores yet home share video artwork is all messed up, and it seems completely random every time. The artwork shows fine when files are loaded locally onto my iPod touch 4G its only in Home Share that its wrong all the time and so annoying.

  • No volume, wrong cover art

    hi,
i've installed v8 of iTunes and now have no sound. i get the message 'volume is set to lowest....' but it is not & i can listen to stuff on you tube & internet, but no sound when i play a cd either, so it must be iTunes somehow.
my sound settings in preferences are correct/on.
also, i get the wrong cover art on my iPhone & iPod. it's correct on iTunes though, but is mixed up on the gadgets.
    help much appreciated!

I've been having lots of trouble getting most of my jpgs, pngs to load into the cover art spaces. It doesn't matter whether I drag or browse/choose a small photo, most of the time (90%?) the cover art won't load. I'm trying to load different art for different songs in a single playlist - I never had this problem before - any thoughts or suggestions? Oh, and often the art will show on the individual id tag, but when I use the grid or Cover Flow playlist View only a couple photos show up
Perhaps I need to go back to iTunes 7 (I installed 8 but am not using the extras in 8)? Doesn't seem to matter what size or whether they're jpgs or pngs or what - I've tried changing everything around. I'm not new to Mac ither - I've been Apple-powered since 1994. Thanks, Rachel

  • Wrong Cover Art in iTunes 7.x.

I let iTunes find the cover art for songs that I haven't gotten it for already and am now scared to death that it has replaced others that had art. As I have encountered the songs that iTunes picked the art for and it's way off. The songs are completely and accurately labeled and still I get "Three Burials OST" for "The Big Chill OST"
    What is this all about?
    G4 FW800, 2GB RAM, 2-DVR110s, 4-500GB HDs, 3-Monitors, 2-Turtle Doves, 1-iTTUSB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Totally Stuffed/Max'd Out with lots of great toys.

You can tell iTunes to "Clear Downloaded Artwork" to get rid of the wrong image.
Getting iTunes to select the correct image, especially for compilations can be quite frustrating. I've been slowly cleaning up some old artwork from when iTunes could not pull artwork from the iTunes Store for music from other sources. I've learned to check the album in question by using the iTunes Store link in iTunes - I figure if it goes right the the album I'm all set - Wrong! Today I'm doing battle with a bunch of "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection" albums. I can go through the album song by song and every one goes right to the correct album - but when I "Get Album Artwork" it still may not find the album or will pull in volume 2 instead of volume 1, etc. I've tried making sure my albums names are exact matches to the iTunes store with the same bad results.
It really seems like iTunes uses a different search method for artwork than for the iTunes Store link. At least Google has an image search...

  • Podcast cover art missing after IOS5 update

I updated to IOS5 yesterday.  All went well except almost all my podcast cover art is missing.  The cover art for all my music is fine. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I had the same problem. Resolved it with the following sequence:
    - SYNC'ed with iTunes using USB cable (Windows).
    - Selected my iPhone in the DEVICES list.
    - Clicked the Podcasts menu item for that device.
    - Changed the Sync options to Automatically include "all unplayed" episodes of "selected podcasts" (it was set to "all podasts".
    - Unchecked the podcast with missing cover art and clicked Apply. This removed the podcast from my device.
    - Checked the podcast with missing cover art and clicked Apply. This put the podcast back on my device.
And now the podcast has cover art.

  • Wrong 'Cover Art' - Upgraded the Art but still showing the Old one !!

    Hi,
I have just added a New Episode to my Podcast ( using Garageband & iWeb, just like before ), at the same time I updated the 'Cover Art'. More glossy, attractive and original image and corrected the category, from just Education to Higher Education.
This has now passed the 'iTunes' inspection ( the new episode ) and has been included into my iTunes Podcast. Here is the problem, even though I 'UPDATED' everything, "Cover Art & Category", iTunes are still showing my OLD Cover Art and the wrong Category. Why !!!
I thought that when you added a new Episode or somehing and had made changes to the whole thing ( Podcast ) that it was changed ( updated ).
Am I missing something, or is it that iTunes have 'missed' something.
I do hope that someone can help and lead me in the right direction.
Oh one more thing, I have used the '&' yet I get the '&amp' on my Podcast, yet I have seen on other Podcast's the '&' without the 'amp'. Any reason why mine is different ?
    Look forward to your comments.
    Steve

Someone else posted about this. Actually, this is the reason why I am searching on here. I have the same exact problem. Mine has not been upgraded yet. But someone else suggested, when you change the image in your feed XML file, try renaming the picture first. It helped someone else. I guess when iTunes searched for a different file name is was finally able to change the image (which seems to be in a cache somewhere in iTunes, even though you host the files).
It didnt work for me though. If you figure it out, let me know.

  • Wrong Cover Art on iPad

    Curious situation.
I copied a playlist to iPad (New) from iTunes with all the cover art for each track.
When I play the tracks on the iPad the cover art is wrong for every track.
When I play the exact same tracks - from the iPad - using iTunes on my MacBook Pro - the cover art is perfect.
Exacts same tracks - wrong art when played on iPad, correct art when played from the iPad through iTunes on my Mac.
    Any ideas?

    Found the solution at:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16525017#16525017
When accessing movies using the movie app on iPad and the movie thumbnail doesn't match, go to general setting on the ipad > movie > and logout (or enter the wrong password so that it logs off) of sharing, then log back in.  It will refresh all your music and movie thumbnails to match the movies you share using your home network. All credit goes to the person that posted this fix via the link above.
Not sure yet if it has to be done again after new movies are added, but it's an easy short-term fix and works better then pulling your hair out.

  • IPhone 4S, iOS 8.2 update, iTunes album cover art missing

    Hello,
I just updated my 64GB iPhone 4s to the new iOS 8.2, after reading online that it addressed issues with previous iOS 8 updates.
Everything on the phone seems to work fine as far as I've found, but the album cover art for almost every album isn't coming over.
I know this may sound insignificant, but it is the fastest way to look up music, especially when on the go.
I have all my album artwork included on iTunes on my laptop.  Previous to this update, all album covers came over to iPhone.
I just did the update to 8.2 last night (March 9, 2015), and synced my iPhone with my laptop to update my music catalog.
First time it didn't bring the artwork over, so I re-synced and tried again.  Our of the 474 albums currently on the devise, album artwork came over on 58 albums.
Has anyone else identified this issue?  If so, were you able to find a solution?
    Thank you.

This has happened about 2 other times since updating to iOS 8.3.  I have an iPhone 6 Plus (128 GB).  I am able to retrieve the album artwork by removing the music from the device and then syncing with iTunes again.  This is a hassle, though, as I have 12,000+ songs that I sync to the device.  Album artwork hangs around for about 2 weeks and then mysteriously vanishes again.  So I have finally given in and will wait until the next software update and then hope for the best with another remove/sync cycle after the update has been applied.
    Bush league, Apple.  Bush league.

  • Wrong cover art

Some cover art is wrong on my iPod - it picked up another CD's cover and applied it to several other CDs. How can I correct them?

    Try these sites:
    http://www.slothradio.com/covers/index.php
    http://albumart.org/
Step 1. Find the album art you are looking for.
Step 2. Save the image to your computer.
Step 3. Open iTunes. (If it isn't already open.)
Step 4. Highlight the songs you want to tag with the album art.
Step 5. With the songs highlighted, right-click and choose "Get Info."
Step 6. Find the image you saved to your computer. Copy the image.
Step 7. In iTunes, with the "Get Info" box open, paste the image into the "Artwork" box.
    Step 8. Click "OK."
Step 9. Sync your iPod. The correct Artwork should now appear on your songs.

  • Wrong Cover Art For Complete Led Zeppelin...

This is frustrating. I just purchased the complete Led Zeppelin from Itunes and it gives me the Led Zeppelin I cover art instead of the Black Zoso Cover.... How can I get this cover...?

You can always search for it yourself on Amazon, Google images, etc. Download a version you like and then manually add the artwork yourself.

  • Ipod nano 4g - wrong cover art appearing

I manually transfer music and youtube videos to my ipod nano 4g from Windows XP (home) and Windows 7 (office) computers. I have iTunes handle podcasts that I follow (about a dozen). Both machines are kept current with OS updates and iTunes updates.
Lately, however, it seems something about the ipod memory has been corrupted, because most of the "cover art" on the podcasts have become fouled up. For example, 7 or 8 different podcasts now show a still frame from an entirely different podcast as their cover art.
This has extended itself to a number of music files also ... enough that it's bothersome... Do I just need to reformat the lot and recopy them over? I'm curious how it happened, but I'd also like to know how to correct it... and most importantly, how to keep it from occurring again in the future.
Thank you for any help you can offer!
    James

This problem has happened to me. This is usually caused by two albums having the same description like "Greatest Hits". Right mouse click on a song you know has a bad art cover and look at the Get Info tab. Right mouse click on a song that is on the art cover causing the problem and also look at the Get Info tab. Compare the two. If the album description or any of those fields are the same you need to make them unique. Make sure you change all the songs on the album the same way. Next time you synch your album art will properly be displayed.

  • CD Cover Art Missing

I am running iTunes on a Windows XP PC and have had to move my library to a new paprtition as the original was full.  Since then I have lost the majority of my CD covers (ca. 95% of them) and when I try to download them (right click on the entire album content, download CD-cover) I get a message saying "CD Cover not found. Problem Code 609". Has anybody got an idea as to what I can do to get the covers from iTunes I need?  I should also say that when I import a new C iTunes also doesn't get the cover as it used to.
    Any help would be aprreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Recent itunes convert, organizing, cover art, etc.

im trying to gather as much best practice info about ripping large quantities of my cds to mp3 using itunes. ive previously used other windows or opensource apps in the past, and the folder organization can always be counted on (but unlink itunes, they dont download cover art).
also, ive run into a few situations where a popular/recent album is unable to find cover art. is there also some sort of best practice that covers getting the highest probability of it actually finding the right cover art? (ive also had some movie soundtracks pull the wrong cover art too)

    Thyname wrote:
Ok, Richsadams et al: I think I have all this artwork missing problem figured out, here is how.
We just need to chill out and simply wait. They will all eventually show up there on their own. It took me few hours to realize all that, but it is true, it will be there on their own, as long as you have them in your pc/mac library hard drive.
Thanks all for the replies. This is a brand new service, and of course it will have its problems at the beginning, especially when millions of people do it at the same day. At the end, we'll all be happy with iTunes match and iCloud, I know it! Especially streaming all your iclouds library via Apple TV is simply awesome!!
I’m not sure how "waiting" would have helped in this case.  Had I not been proactive, the cover art would still be missing.    Overall the service is still "buggy" IMO and users shouldn't have to wait or go through some pretzel logic to resolve problems.  If it were one or even a couple of issues that’s one thing...but this did not go well on a number of levels.
I understand "early adoption" caveats, but based on numerous posts here and elsewhere, this was not a pleasant experience for a lot of folks...with many still struggling to get things back on track.
We have admittedly been spoiled by Apple's usual high standards.  However with all of the issues with the rollout of iOS 5 and now iTunes Match, recent events have been very disappointing.  Apple has previously set the customer experience bar very high and almost always met or surpassed it.  These past couple of fairly major events felt rushed and unpolished.
I'm the first one to come to Apple's defense and will continue to do so, but this experience has soured my outlook on Apple's ability to continue to deliver at their previous levels.  I hope they are able to regroup and learn from this because I truly want them to succeed and stay on top.

  • Urgh...wrong album cover art...how do I take it off

I have?a Zen Vision M, 30gb, and I have a problem removing unwanted cover art. I suppose it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things...the songs play, and they're where their supposed to be. But I find this HELLA annoying
!!! Since I've transferred a great deal of my CD collection into it, I like to organize things (and search) by album. But since I also have a lot of random songs that I have downloaded from various places, and I don't want a whole bunch of incomplete "albums" to search through, I filed them into an "album" tagged "Miscellaneous."? So last night I'm?making new tags and reorganizing some files, and when I unplug my Zen from the computer, I go into my "Miscellaneous" and see that?ALL the songs now have the cover art?from ONE of the songs in that folder. What's even stranger is that that specific?cover art doesn't even show in Windows Media Player, so I have NO idea how it became attached with all my miscellaneous songs. To top it off, I transferred some CD's into my Zen who's cover art DID show, but it doesn't come up in my Zen. To that I say "whatever"... I'd like to have the cover art, but I can li've without it. But to have the WRONG cover art for?A LOT of my songs just makes me?incredibly aggrevated!? So what can I do to remove the unwanted cover art?
Oh, and I should point out that I got my Zen when it'sfirst came out, so I have like the oldest MediaSource Organizer that doesn't support cover art.

I don't own a Vision M, but I know how my other players from Creative work. They use the ID3 tags in each track for artist, album art, etc. I use media monkey to tag all the tracks on my computer before I transfer them to the player. Here's the bad news. In my experience, you will have to remove the tracks from the player and throw them back on once they are tagged properly. I know of no way to change the tags on the players themselves. Eric

  • I'm having cover art issues...

I love audiobooks, but I'm having issues with cover art showing up. When in "audiobooks" view in iTunes all of my cover art shows up, but when I switch to "authors" view some authors have cover art next to their names while others doesn't. I suppose I'm a little OCD but I really like having cover art next to the author's names.
I noticed this happened after I did a bit of editing so it may be my fault. Several of my audiobooks are series. For example, Christopher Paolini wrote the Inheritance Cycle which consists of Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr & Inheritance. I recently combined the files into one "album" while letting the track names differentiate between the individual books.
    1 Eragon (Part 1).m4b
    1 Eragon (Part 2).m4b
    2 Eldest (Part 1).m4b
    2 Eldest (Part 2).m4b
    3 Brisngr (Part 1).m4b
    3 Brisinger (Part 2).m4b
    4 Inheritance (Part 1).m4b
    4 Inheritance (Part 2).m4b
Each book has it's own cover art and when I send the whole series to my iPhone they show up as one audiobook "The Interitance Cycle" with the 8 files listed above being listed as tracks. When clicking on the individual files to play them, they display the cover art for the book they represent. Seemed like an easy way to consolidate my files until the cover art next to author names started disappearing in iTunes. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I'm here to own up.  My dad was over today and he has an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1 and mine ran 6.1.2.  Over the table both on my wifi I tried to call him on facetime and he tried to call me, in both cases it failed due to lost connection as previously discussed.  He said they had used it to call my brother in england yesterday with no issue.
I bit the bullet and decided with extreme reluctance to do the upgrade.  I did a full backup whilst downloading the update on my windows pc and after the sync I applied the update.  Luckily for apple's sake the facetime connection now works both ways but I'm still left with this hideously atrocious UI color scheme.  I can however report that i can see no noticable reduction in performance so far.  As per suggested on some sites I disabled automatic downloads & updates and tweaked the accessibility settings to "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" including enabling button shapes and reducing white point.  Everything seems to work fine and Thankfully I don'rt feel like I have a hobbled device.  Clearly something between 7.0 and 7.1.1 has brought iPad 2 back up to speed so to speak.
Oh and I still hate you Apple, cheers.

  • Most cover art disappeared after syncing

I just put a few more CDs onto my iTunes, and after I synced my iPod, all the cover art except for the few CDs I just added disappeared from the iPod. It's all still in my iTunes though. All pictures for video are gone too, but my photos still work fine. (The iPod is a Classic 160 GB)
    Thoughts? Ideas?

I was having a similar problem. For me it happens only with ripped tracks not available through iTunes. My solution was to uncheck “Automatically download missing album artwork” on the General Tab under Preferences.
Once I unchecked it, the disappearing covers stopped happening. Although it was an intermittent problem, it's now been 5 months since I changed it and I haven't lost any artwork.
This solution also has one obvious drawback. While iTunes purchased music is still downloaded with cover art, once you uncheck the "automatically download missing album artwork" box, music you rip and then import into iTunes won't have cover art. My take is I'd rather add cover art once when I import a song, then constantly have to re add random batches of artwork.
All I can figure is that when you have "get artwork" checked, iTunes goes through your library and replaces all artwork added by hand because it doesn't recognize either the file type or naming convention. For the most part we don't notice it, but when it hits a song it doesn't own the rights too, blam, gonzo.
Further proof that iTunes doesn't recognize or like the hand added cover art is that I had a song that iTunes automatically downloaded the wrong cover art for (van halen 1 instead of 2). I fixed it with the right cover from Amazon but I noticed it changed back to the wrong cover about a week later.
I have a couple of blog entries about this problem that go into further detail, check them out here:
