Metadata Label and Color Labels

As I wanted to sort my pictures on subject I chose to put the name in the Metadata Label Field as the Label Text is available for that purpose (I would have expected the caption text for this purpose). When I put a text in the Metadata Label field a white color label field is shown in grid view below the thumbnail but a white color label is mentioned nowhere in the Lightroom documentation. The sorting works perfectly but when I apply a color label to that picture the text that was put in the Metadata Label field is replaced by the name of that color label so that the sorting is disturbed!
One way to overcome this is making the caption text to be used for sorting, another to prevent applying a color label name to the Metadata Label field. So I don't know if this is to be considered a bug report or a feature request.
By the way some of the other reasons for the 2.1 version are clearly working as I've noticed.

Thanks Don, I've never used color labels either but as I didn't know that the white label was due to this I deleted all of them (fortunately only in one collection) and thereby also deleted all Label texts!
I am now using 2.1 also but the Color Label shown in the footer of the thumbnail stays white.
Anyway it would be nice to be able to use Caption text for sorting as this is useful in other respects too!
And mentioning the White Color label in the documentation would be helpful also.

  • I can select a rating and a color label for my images, but I can not sort by rating and color label.

I can select a rating and a color label for my images, but I can not sort by rating and color label. when I click on the filter drop down, color label is not one of the options.  how do I get both ratings and color lables as an option to sort with.

You can Filter (not sort) on both color label and rating if you want, open the Filter Bar with the backslash key, then click on Attribute, and then select the stars and color label of interest. If you really meant "sort" and not filter, then you can't do this in Lightroom.

  • Mini Bridge InDesign and color label.

Hello everyone, I'm just start to use InDesign, it's a great experience!
I'm a photographer and I use the software for my photo book, but I have a little problem with mini Bridge, is it possible to set a color label to the pictures?
In this way I can recognize the picture used from the others. (sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand)
    Thanks for your help.

Right click - go to review mode.
Then right click on images to add a label.
I think you can change labels and colours in bridge itself.

  • ACL's and color labels...

The short version: I setup some ACL stuff (that I don't really understand) in order to share some files that previously belonged to only one user. Now I can't change the color labels in Finder.
    The long version:
I share an iMac at work and recently decided to create my own account to keep my settings separate from the other person's. I tried moving our projects folder, managed fonts folder, iPhoto library, etc. into the Shared user folder, but iPhoto wasn't having it. The original account was fine with the change, but my new account was locked out. So, I found a little tutorial online (link below) about sharing the iPhoto library in the Shared user folder with some Access Control List (ACL) stuff. Anyway, I have everything running smoothly, but I can't seem to change the color labels in Finder. I control+click the folder and all the color label options are "grayed" out; I can't click on them. I was able to set a color label to a new folder, but I can't remove or change the label on an old folder.
Here's the command I used, followed by a link to the complete tutorial I used:
sudo chmod +a "UserName allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/iPhoto\ Library
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050904072808460&lsrc=osxh
So.... what's going on and how do I fix it? ; )
Oh yeah, the iMac is a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with Mac OS X 10.4.11

you need to expand that command a little.
    Try this one
    *sudo chmod -R +a "staff allow list,addfile,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr, writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directoryinherit" path/to/folder*
as before, instead of path/to/folder put the path to the folder you are doing this to.

  • Unzip of files overwrites component.label and dvd.label. How to fix this?

    Hello,
In my first attempt to install Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2, I have got stuck in unzip phase. When I try to unzip B24283-01_1of7.zip, it tries to overwrite existing component.label in oraApps directory. This happens with other files such as B24285-01_1of7.zip and B24288-01_1of2.zip also.
I was able to rename existing component.label, so there was no loss of files. But I don't know whether I should proceed with install.
    Any comments.
    Thanks.

Very late to reply. But yes there is no problem if you over write those files. Infact if you miss ti extract any file, Install will ask for that CD. Very smart installer.

  • How to play Previous Label and Next Label?

How can I tell flash to play a previous or next label with
    simple scripting?
...are there any predefined playprevLabel or playnextLabel
functionality in the program that can be called simply ?
I heard of putting the label names into an array but it seems
    too convoluted. thanks, Attila

Why not name the labels incrementally, then merely add or
subtract from the value of your label variable, and use a standard
    goto?

  • Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?

    Hi
I'd like to see the flag-status, rating and color label assigned to an image as cell icons. But if I show them as Cell Icons, I am also able to change them, which happens to me quite often accidentally when I click into the frame of a image to change selections.
Is it possible to show these markers for each image without being able to change them in the frame? I would be quite happy being able to change them from the tool bar, but still being able to see them on the single image.
    Related to this:
Is it somehow possible to mark images as read only, so that further changes (development, metadata etc.) can be made impossible? This would be nice for older images, which have been processed completely and should stay that way, inhibiting accidental changes to images. Sometimes it is difficult to even notice when one accidentally changes metadata on an image.
    Thanks for your thoughts

Yes it's a bug. I see it on Mac platform.

  • Lightroom CC isn't including color labels when images are imported

I've tried this several times, but it doesn't work. Lightroom CC will import metadata and even star ratings, but it won't import the color label data assigned to the images from within Bridge. How can I get that information to be imported?
In other words, working in Bridge CC I assigned star ratings and color labels to a folder full of JPG files. When I import those files into Lightroom CC, the images, metadata and the star ratings are imported, but no color label data was imported. None of the images have color labels when viewed in LR. They still retain the color labels when I view the files in Bridge CC, but they don't appear in LR.

I just struggled with this for an hour. Any changes made to labels inside Lightroom 5 didn't show up in Bridge CC after reading metadata from file, and imports into LR5 did not properly show Bridge CC's label colors. Instead, only a tiny white rectangle at the bottom right of each labeled thumbnail showed in LR5.
Finally figured it out. In the Lightroom 5 file menu up top, go to:
Metadata --> Color Label Set --> Bridge Default (select this option)
'Lightroom Default' was previously selected in mine, as I suspect all Lightroom 5 installs are initially.
Make sure that the names beside each color are identical in both Bridge & LR, or you will still have syncing problems.
    This should fix your problem!

  • Color labels: I never see 'em; not color blind too

I set color labels for clips, and there is no indication whatsoever on the clip thumbs or in the source panel or anywhere.
I see nothing you could call a label or color label.  Presumable the labels are for easy locating?

    Thanks you.
While we are at it, what is the philosophy here please?
I would put as much on "SCRATCH" as possible, but
never anything I would want later.  "Captured video"
has me puzzled cuz the video is "captured" to a location
long before Premiere gets involved and I dont want to
change said location.  "Previews" seems ok obvious.
I'll keep my auto saves where I can find them till it's
    time to dump them.

  • Finder won't color label files

I am working through a directory of files and color labeling them using finder. Some files won't take the color labels. It has nothing to do with the file format or any other permissions conflicts.

there must be some difference.  which files are they?

  • Applescipt manipulating color label

In manipulating image version's color label,
set color label to no color label,
It results in browser's label column,"no label" not a nomally "--"
Is there way to set label to "--" ?
-- some operations to determine color label here reseult to vResult
    -- inside tell image versions
if vResult is equal to "" then
    set color label to purple
    else
set color label to no color label
    end if

Looks like the color label is just a string that Aperture interprets to actually turn on the color. So for example an image marked Orange has an orange dot and the string "Orange" next to it.
So as a long shot you can try try setting the color label in the script to Null (or the applescript equivalent) or even just "".
On the images you've set the color label to "No Label" with the script, do they still show up in searches for images with no label? If they do then does it really matter what they look like in column view?
    regards

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • Lightroom 5 and Bridge 6- Color Label and Keyword compatibility

I've added color labels and keywords to images in Lightroom 5 but I'm not seeing them in Bridge CC.
Lightroom Metadata > Color Label Set is set to Lightroom Default (Red-Yellow etc.
And Bridge Preferences > Labels is also set with "Red, Yellow etc" text.
In other words they are the same,  But I'm not seeing the color labels or the keywords in Bridge.
    Thanks,

The answer to this problem is that, in order for Bridge and Lightroom to share labels etc. Lightroom has to write its metadata into xmp sidecar files.
To do this go to: Lightroom > Catalog Settings > Metadata Tab and check : Automatically write changes into XMP.

  • Color label incompatibility between LR3 and Bridge CS5

I have LR3 in English and Bridge CS5 installed in other language. Is this why whenever I assign color labels in Bridge they show up in LR as white(custom). BTW, star ratings transfer correctly.

Color labels are just words (strings) assigned to the photos, and if you use different laguages, those don't match. You can build your own Color Label Set in LR where you enter the words assigned by bridge to the different colors (Menu Metadata/Color Label Set/Edit). Then choose this color label set in LR and you'll get the colors.
LR shows white if it cannot assign the "word" in the photo to a color in the active color label set. You can see the "word" assigned to the photo in the metadata panel ("Label") or all of them in the metadata filter.
