Metadata question

The metadata has a set of data titled IPTC Status. The first field in this data block is Title. The title reflects the title entered in Lightroom's (Library) Metadata panel. This information can also be entered or changed using the Sync feature to synchronize the title for a selected set of images.
Is there a way to insert a code in a filed in the matadata panel that will find the file number of an image and automatically insert the image number number when synchronizing metadata.
for example, I want to Title all of the images with the title of the body of work and then have the image number following the title for all the images without having to go to each image and manually enter the image number after the title.
Title = Grand Canyon + image number. After synchronizing all the selected images the titles would read:
Grand Canyon 0715
Grand Canyon 0723
Grand Canyon 0730...
I know you can do this using Lightroom's Web Gallery, but I am exporting my photos to use a third party web gallery
I look forward to your answer.
Jim

Terry,
Thanks a million for your responce, but. When I go to the pages you suggest I am still confused. When I am in Aperture and I wish to add any of the following It is grayed out and I can not find out how to activate them. Aperture, shutter speed, exposure bias, iso speed rating, focal length, camera type. I can fill in the rest of the fields but the ones I really want to save are grayed out???
Thanks
Joe

    CS6 METADATA QUESTIONS
    Working with record album saved in a wave format, on a computer running windows 7
    I break the album into individual songs using markers  which I name the title of each song, I check the include metadata box when I export each marker to  individual file. In the ID3 metadata I enter the artist , album name, recording date, and genre. In the xmp under riff I enter the album name under product. Before I save each marker to a separate file.
    The information that shows up in windows explorer is the file name, album name, and contributing artists. Unless you enter a space after the information entered in the metadata columns, such as album name, windows cuts off the last letter. Is this a windows problem or a CS6 problem?
    Is there somewhere in the metadata that you can enter the track no. so it will show up in windows explorer track no. column?
    3.Is there  anyway to have the marker names entered into the id3 title column and the xmp/rff name columns.?
    After the markers have been saved as individual files , windows explorer has the file name, album name ,and artist. I then open each individual song file  and copy the file name into the ID3 title column and the xmp/rff name column, add the track no. in the id3 track no column ,and hit file save . At this point windows explorer no longer shows any information but the file name. In order to get the title, album name, and artist to show up in windows  I have to hit file “save as” and then save it again as the same file name. Why? Am I doing something wrong?
    After I get the information in the metadata of the individual songs saved in a wave format. I then save a copy in the mp3 format . Even though the id3 information is in the meta data of the songs saved in a wave format when I save a copy in the mp3 format the information is no longer available, Why? Is there a way to convert a wave file with id3 information  to an mp3 without having to re enter it all again?
    Is there another low loss format that would handle the metadata  better and allow it to show up when converted to mp3?
    Is there a more detailed help article on metadata standards?

    I've been doing some workflow rehearsals with Pl and Pr (Still more to try out) and I have shifted my thinking a bit on how to use these two programs together in the most useful way.
    I have started thinking of Prelude as the "Turbocharged" version of Premiere's Project window, bins, browser and metadata panel.  If you start to think of Pl as a break-out companion, and use the two in conjunction, I think it can make for a very powerful combo.
    I know that it has been suggested to only flow in one direction - use Pl first and then switch over to Pr, but since Pl's capabilities for marking, adding and searching for metadata is stronger, i have been going back and forth a lot.
    In your example above, you can mark your comment (marker) sections in Pl and send over the clips you are interested in.  If you find you need more clips or a different "Answer1", pop back to Pl and do a search, find the clip, and send over to Pr.  It's like going back to the well for more media only when you need it. The search is much better over at Pl (in my opinion)
    There are still a lot of new features I would add to Pl to make it more robust, but for now it is working well as my Clip org and Search in place of the meager abilities in Pr.

  • Basic Metadata Questions

    I'm a hobbyist photographer with lots of personal photos and some I might use for work related projects. I'm just getting started with LR and want to make sure I start right.
    1. What metadata fields should I consider using that may be helpful in the future? None of my images currently have metadata applied.
    2. Will star ratings and labels from Bridge show up in LR?
    Thanks in advance.

    In my opinion, the most important metadata is keywords. By faithfully attaching keywords to your photos, you enable yourself to do many different types of searching ... for example, you can EASILY find all pictures of your daughter, even if they are scattered in 20 different folders. If you want only pictures of your daughter at Christmas, that's also an easy search. Plus, keywords can be exported to your photos  (while collection membership cannot be exported) so when you share your photos with others, or share on-line, if you want the keywords to be included with your photos, they can be.
    I don't use bridge so I can't answer your other question.

  • CS4 - using bridge as a DAM application? (metadata question)

    Hello,
    I work within the marketing department of a jewelry company that has about 50,000 images on a shared drive and server. There are 10 of us, and we are all running CS4.
    I am wondering, is there ANY way, that if I apply metadata/keywords to a photograph, that I could possibly share that information with other users in my work group? So far, I am able to add keywords to my jewelry very easily, but have not been able to access it in a differnet computer connected to the same server. Any way we could do this? Is there any plug-in or simple application that would enable bridge to do this?
    Thank you-

    Thanks for doing that search for me- I got some good information out of it. But unfortunately, it still doesn't work right. Even by exporting my Keyword list and cache, other users can not find my files unless they have already previously opened the image once. Very frustrating! I read this, but I don't understand it:
    "As I understand it, indexing builds a database that P Bridge uses to find files and match them to thumbnails. It seems that Bridge doesnt use the operating system FAT or file table when it does searches. When searching for a file, Bridge goes to its index to look for it, not the operating system. If its not in the index, bridge cant find it unless you tell it to look for in the un-index files, then it goes to the operating systems file system."
    How do I search unindexed information in bridge?

  • HELP!!!!  File name / document title metadata question

    Is there any way to have the file name and the document title carry over to one another?
    I am doing a huge selection of images for our stock agency and have figured out how to add a simple bit of information to our in-house file names for example 11130-005.08D_IOTW (the _IOTW is what I have had to add for a submission) in lightroom in the file name local on the right of the screen when doing metadata....
    HOWEVER, we also need the document title/title and I don't want to have to open each seperate image and apply the simple _IOTW to each title.
    Is there anyway to instantaneously add the _IOTW to the title just like one can with the file name?
    HELP!!!???
    Erica

    Check out LR/Transporter by Timothy Armes. It has the capability of modifying metadata fields, including Title. If I understand your needs correctly, it should do what you want.

  • SAP BW Bookmarks - Metadata question

    Hi,
    Our users save query views as bookmarks on the portal. Now , If we change the query defination , we would like to know following:
    1. Bookmarks created against  queries
        ( I found tables RSWR_DATA_XREF and RSWR_DATA  . These tables give me list of bookmarks agains BI query . These bookmarks have a unique SAP internal ID number. How to match SAP internal ID number with Portal bookmark ? )
    2. Filters used in Bookmarks
    3. Un used bookmarks - Users keep on creating bookmarks and we would like to have a report which can tell us , when was the last time that particular view was executed.

    I have a BW 7 system i have searched and in didn´t find the CSV files.....i review the 610236 OSS note....and i have another question.......
    I have activated all the objects of SAP Demo but there´s no Infopackages in Business Content objects....
    But In OSS note mention a RFC for load data from CSV to infocube ....
    Do i have to create them????
    Maybe Is not necesary to create the infopackages and only use the RFC??
    Which is the right procedure?

  • XMP Metadata Question

    I need guidance in creating a custom file info panel in Flash Builder 4 for Illustrator CS4.  I'm trying to link a AI CS4 text variable to a XMPTextArea component and im having no luck.  Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Frank

    I
    suspect that a tool/application was used to alter the metadata, but, my
    belief was that InstanceID will always change whenever metadata is
    modified.
    May be that this tool/application doesn't change the InstanceID.

  • LR 4 versus PS CS6 Metadata Question

    I am new but am starting to use LR 4 and PS CS6 for about 25,000 images of golf course holes.    I have added keywords, GPS coordinates, copyright data, etc to these images as well as collections for picks, star ratings, color ratings, etc.
    In the workflow I have started using, I first take a selected image from LR and go to PS to use the lasso tool and content aware fill, healing tool or clone stamp to remove unwanted "distractions" in the images such as golf carts, extraneous people, cart paths, etc.  I save these changes to the ORIGINAL image file.  (I do this before I do anything else to the image in the develop module of LR or in PS.  I need to know that I can "clean up" the image before I do other processing)
    When I return to LR from PS after using these tools, I get a message that states "The metadata of this photo has been changes by both Lightroom and another application.  Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk ssettings from the catalog?"
    Which option should I select?  I have no idea what changes I have made to the metadata by eliminating a golf cart in an image using PS.
    Thanks,
    Mel

    Saving metadata to file is not really a safeguard against catalog mishap since not all data is saved to file. For instance Virtual Copies, Collections, and Stacking are saved to the catalog only and are not saved to file.
    The reason is (probably) that saving metadata to file makes it possible to display the Lr edits in Adobe Bridge - Bridge reads the metadata from file. But since Bridge doesn't have the features for VCs, Stacking, Collections these are not saved to file in Lr.
    The best "insurance" against catalog mishap is to create backups regularly. I have set Lr to create backups on every exit (in >Edit >Catalog Settings >General tab) - I can always skip if I think it's not necessary. The advantage of having Lr do the catalog backup is that optimization of catalog and of the previews is part of the backup procedure.
    Also, it ensures that Lr can read the backup.
    To save metadata to file for all images, select <All Photographs> in the Grid View / Catalog Panel (above the Folders panel). Make sure that all of your external drives that contain photos are plugged in. Then go Ctrl / Cmd + A to select all photos. Then do Ctrl / Cmd + S to save metadata to file. Expect that it may take quite a while for all 250000 images. Alternatively you can do >Metadata >Save metadata to file
    You can check the box <Automatically write changes to XMP> in Catalog Settings / Metadata tab. But this causes an old Lr bug to constantly send you the "metadata conflict" warning, and it may drive you nuts.
    I therefore save to file manually. Whenever I have edited a bunch of images, I select them all in Grid  View and do a Ctrl / Cmd + S.

  • Ticky-tack Metadata Questions

    Does anyone happen to know
    1. if the 64 /character/ limit includes hyphenation marks < - > or spaces (I assume not).
    2. is it better to include words that go together as in -  "Madonna's Roman Getup" as opposed to - Madonna's Roman Getup, so that the words are keyed together as one in some way?
    3. Am I supposed to be separating Keywords with a Comma or a Semicolon? In the documentation I seem to see them on separate lines with no commas but also separated with commas and the text seemed to indicate using semi-colons.
    THANKS

    1. Hyphens, angle brackets, spaces, and the like _are_ characters.  That's why the limit isn't expressed as "64 letters".
    2a. I find it helpful to not use spaces in Keywords.  For example: "LookingAtCamera", "LookingUp", "LookingDown".
    2b. The choice of using one Keyword or more than one up to you.  There are different utilities in "Hair", "Blond", "Brown", "Red", "Bald" and "HairBlond", "HairRed", "HairBrown", "HairNone".
    3. When and where?  Separate Keywords with commas when typing more than one in the Keywords field of the Metadata tab of the inspector.  From the User Manual:
    To add a keyword, type a keyword in the Keywords field.
    Note: All keywords must be separated by commas (,).
    Where does the text " ... seem to indicate using semicolons"?

  • MetaData questions

    1.) I took a whole bunch of videos with a new 5DM3 and am accessing them through CS5.5. When I click on the .MOV files there is no info displaying in the MetaData panel. Is there someway to see the ISO, Apperture, etc. for the video files?
    2.) I also notice in MetaData a section called "Subject Distance" is this really a measurement of how far away the subject was from the lens when the photo was taken? If so, how accurate is it?
    Thanks.

    It is showing me the MetaData (ISO, Apperture,etc.) for my images, just not my .mov files.
    Where do I change the settings for what displays in the MetaData panel? I just checked the Preferences and everything under the Video section is checked off for MetaData Preferences. Is this what you were talking about?
    Thanks.

  • Metadata Question for Adobe Muse

    Hello!
    It's the newbie again, I was wondering if anyone can help me with the Meta Data functionality in Adobe Muse. I'm not sure what should go into the HTML for <head> metadata section in the Masters Page vs. what should go into the HTML for <head> section for the other subpages? (Home, about us, ect.)
    My understanding is that for subpages metadata, you input your Description, Keyword, then in HTML for <head> area, so you would enter in your Google Analytics code like this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
      var _gaq = _gaq || [];
      _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-22948011-1']);
      _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
      (function() {
        var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
        ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
        var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
    </script>
    My situation is, I have an existing site that I am completey redoing in Adobe Muse. I want to use the current Google Analytics code on my new site, but write new descriptions and keywords for my new site for better SEO.
    So, I'm not sure if my assumption above is correct for subpages,  and I'm also not sure what should go into HTML for <head> on the Masters Page- is that just GA code too? Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

    If you want the google analytics code inserted into the <head> of every page(which you probably do) you should put that in the master page 'HTML for <head>' section.
    Description & Keywords should be different for each page if you want search engines to rank your pages highly, so you can fill those in on each page. You can add these to the 'description' and 'keywords' section of the page properties metadata tab, and Muse will wrap them in the correct HTML tag on output.

  • IPhoto 09 - exporting metadata question

    I'm using iPhoto 09 as one of several organizational tools for my doctoral dissertation. I have thousands of research photos organized nicely in iPhoto. Over the last year I have added text to the "Description" field for many photos. What I would like to be able to do is to export these photos so that either a.) the description data is automatically entered into the comment field in the "get info" window so that they're searchable with Spotlight, or b.) to export the pictures with the "description" data appended in a way so that I can delete them from iPhoto, but if I re-import them in the future they will still have the "description" data. Is this at all possible?
    Once I'm finished with this project, I plan to archive all the photos and delete them from iPhoto since they take up about 20GB of HD space, but I want to be able to revisit them in the future without having to re-catalog them all.

    What I would like to be able to do is to export these photos so that either a.) the description data is automatically entered into the comment field in the "get info" window so that they're searchable with Spotlight,
    iPhoto won't do this but you may find an AppleScript or Automator action to do this for you.
    b.) to export the pictures with the "description" data appended in a way so that I can delete them from iPhoto, but if I re-import them in the future they will still have the "description" data. Is this at all possible?
    Export the pics from iPhoto using the File -> Export command. Check the box to write the Titles and Keywords to the file and - tho' not mentioned explicitly - the descriptions will be also.
    Once I'm finished with this project, I plan to archive all the photos and delete them from iPhoto since they take up about 20GB of HD space, but I want to be able to revisit them in the future without having to re-catalog them all.
    Why not move the Library off to an external disk, keep them catalogued and create a second library for your further use?
    Regards

  • Metadata questions re importing?

    Hi, my gurus. I am importing thousands of photos, all of which were captioned in PhotoShop 6, 7 and CR2. How can I automatically add metatata to new fields (ie, ITCP and other entries that did not exist in earlier PS versions) without overwriting existing data? Any advice will be much appreciated.
    BTW, so far no problems with 1.1. Finger remain crossed, tho.

    It sounds like your Import Action is set to 'Add'. If you want to copy the files to your HD and organise by date then you need to select 'Copy' as the Import Action, then your extended import options will appear in the right-hand panel. Use the Destination pane to tell Lightroom where you want the files copied to, and in the same pane you'll have the options to organise by date.

  • Canon T3i metadata in PS CS6 ex question

    Canon T3i metadata question:
    In Photoshop CS3 the metadata of each photo displays the time to the second the picture was taken. But in Photoshop CS6 EX ( creative cloud ) the data only shows the minute the picture was taken. I need the timing down to the second.  Is there a setting for this?
    Thanks.
    Thomas

    Curt and all, thanks for the reply.
    Well, the exif info is only down to the minute.
    For further info, when I open the exif menu window in PS CS6 ex the menu box says "powered by xmp(trademark)". I am wondering if Photoshop has eliminated the second span information?
    I don't know where to ask my questions. Maybe there is a better forum?
    Thanks again.

  • LR2 Metadata issues

    Metadata questions in LR2. After working with this program for a few weeks, I have come across two questions involving the metadata function. First, I understand that if you do not set copyright data during the import process on a batch of photos, you should be able to batch add that data once in a catalog. I tried this on three occasions and ran into an issue that if you select all photos in the collection and choose the copyright template in the metadata panel, it does in fact add that data to each selected photo. I found however that doing that wiped out the star rating on all the selected photos. Did I miss a step? Second, I noted that on photos (.jpg) files that have copyright data set in the metadata file in LR2, when I look at the file properties in Photoshop 7, it does not show any of the metafile data, copyright as well. Does the metadata inserted in LR2 not actually embed into the .jpg file?

    > Any thoughts on why the copyright data doesn't show in the file info in Photoshop 7 but is correct in LR2?
    I guess that Photoshop is too old to interpret the embedded xmp metadata.
