  • Expose Metadata Repository for Public Access

    All,
    Does anyone have experience exposing the active metadata repository for documentation purposes?  I am familiar with how the repository works within the BI workbench, searching, navigating, etc, but what I would like to do is to expose the repository structure to the user community so they can find more information about their objects.
    An example would be to allow users to browse the metadata repository to discover what the definition of a certain key figure is, such as what is the definition of headcount, or purchase price variance?  Ideally they could find what other key figures are used in a calculation, or in a formula.
    The metadata repository appears to be a series of generated htm pages, but this information has to be stored somewhere in the database.  Does anyone know where? If we can access the tables, then we can build reporting objects off of them and thus expose in BEx.  Alternatively, if we can expose the metadata repository itself, could we then publish it in Enterprise Portal??
    Any suggestions, advice, or help would be appreciated.
    I will award points for useful suggestions.
    Thanks in advance
    Christopher

    Hi Michael,
    maybe you have to check if you are running IE 7.0. That can be the problem (it was with me).
    So try to uninstall IE 7.0 and try it again.

  • Can I install Metadata Repository for 10.1.2.0.2 on Oracle 10.2.0 database

    Does any one know if the Metadata Repository of OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 can be install on an existing Oracle 10.2.0 database ?
    The MRCA tool is giving me this message "Oracle Metadata Repository cannot be loaded into this version of the database. Please see the installation guide for more information on supported database versions ...."

    According to the Installation Guide, Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.x) and Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.x) are supported. See the following for more specific information:

  • Using portal metadata repository for portal content - performance impact?

    Oracle provides the Oracle Drive utility as a way of moving portal content directly into the portal metadata repository. The Oracle Portal Center site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/index.html) provides links to several demos and technical papers that describe the use of Oracle Drive to copy file-based content into the Portal Metadata Repository (e.g., http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_webdav_10g_webdav_clients.pdf). My questions are: (a) is this a best practice (b) are there potential performance problems with loading up the portal metadata repository with large volumes of file-based content?

    Hello
    It depends on what you mean by "large volumes".
    I use webdav scripts to create/update my files every night and it works fine. But it's rather slow.
    Questions are :
    - is it a one-time transfer to initiate Portal, and a regular one ?
    - how large are your files ?

    Hi,
    Found out from Oracle that the "oracle/sysman/oii/oiio/oiiol/OiiolTextLogger" class is in the $ORACLE_HOME/oui/jlib/OraInstaller.jar file and as per their suggestion added the jar file to the $classpath list of jar files in the mrua.pl script. I am still troubleshooting. So if you have any ideas please let me know.

  • Newbie - do you install repository for the metadata with the weblogic?

    Hi,
    I installed the weblogic 10.3.2 and didn't come at the point where I install/configure a db repository for the medadata?
    Could someone clarify this metadata repository piece for me please? Is it required?
    Thank you
    Anatoliy

    Yes, by default Weblogic Server DO NOT need any RCU (Repository creation utility) to download or install. On WLS you can deploy any J2EE applications developed with Eclipse IDE or JDeveloper. If you want to use any Fusion middleware components and develop Fusion applications then you need this RCU installed and configured. Some components of Fusion are like SOA, WebCenter, IdentityManagement, SingleSignOn, WebCenter Portlets etc
    1. If you use FusionMiddleware or SOA Suite, it is required to install RCU.
    2. RCU is nothing but database scripts to create tables ets to store information for SOA/BPEL stuff.

    Hello Vasavi
    Please check the followings..
    From T-Code RSTPRFC  -
    > Select your BW Client
    Check what is the background user name .... Like ALEREMOTE.
    Then check what is the type of this User id  ( Like Dialog /System/Communication/Service).
    If it is not System ( type B) then ask your Security/Basis team to change it to System or Service ( Type S) and then try to browse to MetaData Repositiry.

    Good question, rozester.
    I encountered this problem also, while trying to install the SSO MRCA 10.1.4.3.1 on 64-bit RHEL5 (though it's at version 5.7 but I'm positive that won't make any difference to the result).
    This may or may not match your situation, but when I looked in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/repca/log/repca_<datestamp>.log, I saw what was probably the reason behind the error:
    <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
    When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
    Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-)

  • How to find/create  SSO userid and password for oracle forms

    hi all,
    I have applied sso to one of my forms application by creating entries in the formsweb.cfg file.
    ssoMode=true
    ssoDynamicResourceCreate=true
    now single-sign-n has been applied to the forms application.What will be the user-id password that must be entered at the sso-login page.
    Do i need to create a separate sso user in metadata repository to login to this forms application?If so , please tell me how to do it.
    Thanx:)

    There are two types of orcladmin accounts. The first (cn=orcladmin) which is typically used to login to Directory Manager, is the superuser. He has rights into all parts of OID. The second type is the realm orcladmin user (cn=orcladmin,cn=Users,<your_realm>). There will be one of these for each realm .
    Login in to Oracle Diectory Manager as orcladmin , and :
    Navigate to Entry Management > your_realm > cn=Users > cn=orcladmin
    A sample realm would be dc=com > dc=oracle > dc=us
    Scroll on the right side to "userpassword" and edit the value
    Save changes and :
    Retry logging in to OIDDAS as orcladmin

  • 9.0.4.1 Metadata Repository in 9.2.0.6

    I just upgraded my 9iAS infrastructure and mid tier with BI and Forms from 9.0.2.3 to 9.0.4.2. We had all the components on one server except we had a separate 9.2 db for our portal repository.
    I want to know how to migrate my metadata repository to a different server and use database version 9.2.0.6. Are there any documents or specofic sections of documents which could guide me in this migration?

    I am not familiar with the document you refer to, but suspect you should apply the 9.0.4.2 patch if you want to integreate OCS with a 10g portal.
    I have successfully integrated a 9iAS portal with R2 OCS (9.0.4.1), and the following details may be worth a closer look:
    1. To my knowledge, the passwords for your portal user and SSO user (orasso) are encrypted and stored in OID based on the hostname and IP address of your SSO server. Thus, the password for orasso and portal will differ between your portal Infra and your OCS infra, resulting in that only one of the two will work properly with your common OID. run the attached script on both your SSO servers and compare the result:
    #!/bin/ksh
    OIDHOST=antares1.i2sp.no
    OIDPORT=4032
    echo "Enter the desired Oracle schema name (default orasso): \c"
    READ DBUSERNAME
    if [[ -z $DBUSERNAME ]]; then
    echo "No schema value entered, using default:orasso"
    DBUSERNAME=orasso
    fi8
    echo "Enter the password of the cn=orcladmin user (usually the ias installation password): \c"
    stty -echo
    read OIDPW
    ty echo
    echo "Looking up schema password from $OIDHOST:$OIDPORT"
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapsearch -h $OIDHOST -p $OIDPORT -D "cn=orcladmin" -w "$OIDPW" -b "cn=IAS Infrastructure Databases,cn=IAS,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext" -s sub "orclResourceName=$DBUSERNAME" orclpasswordattribute
    Setting the password for orasso and portal to the same encrypted string is a good start. If they differ, change to the same encrypted string using "alter user orasso identified by xxxxxx" in sqlplus.
    Hope this will help you on the way :-)

  • Replacement for 10g Forms&Reports standalone server in 11g?

    is there a replacement for the 10g Forms&Reports standalone server in 11g environment? Without the need to install Metadata Repository?
    thx, florian.
    Edited by: fschulze on Oct 16, 2009 1:12 PM

    I believe you can install the equivalent in Forms 11g.
    If you don't install Portal or Discoverer, then you are not required to install any Metadata repository.
    So the steps would be:
    1) Install Weblogic Server 11g
    2) Install Forms and Report Services 11g
    How will you call reports from forms though?

  • 10.1.4 Upgrade on an AMD Opteron 64bit metadata repository

    Hi,
    I have a Portal MDR on a 64bit AMD Opteron Linux RHEL 4 hardware. I would like to upgrade it to 10.1.4 from 10.1.2.0.2.
    The upgrade guide says the upgrade has to be run from the machine where the Portal repository is. But, I cant find a download for this hardware!
    Will the 64bit download for itanium work on my hardware?
    I have done a remote install of MRCA to load the repository from a 32bit machine

    Hi,
    Just a few remarks about the versions which you are about to install :
    <li>Oracle Database (11.2.0.1) => should be at least 11.2.0.2 as 11.2.0.1 is not supported with RCU
    <li>Repository Creation Assistant (11.1.1.2.0) => take RCU version for 11.1.1.4 as it will create the 11.1.1.4 version of the repository for you
    <li>Weblogic (10.3.5) => you need 10.3.4 for IDM 11.1.1.4 andd PFRD 11.1.1.4
    <li>Identity Management (11.1.1.2.0) => if you are going to install WebLogic 10.3.5, you should install IDM 11.1.1.2 and patch it to 11.1.1.4 !
    <li>SSO metadata Repository Creator Assitant (10.1.4.3.1) => this is good, check Note 1069426.1 as it mentions some patches which need to be installed if you use a 11.2 database
    <li>Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer (11.1.1.2.0) => install patch set 11.1.1.4 on the software home before running the config !
    If you follow my recommendations, you will end up with the following software :
    <li>IDM 11.1.1.4 with SSO 10.1.4.3 associated with OID
    <li>PFRD 11.1.1.4
    You can use a single middleware home for all this software. Make sure to install Weblogic 10.3.4 as 10.3.5 is not supported with FMW 11.1.1.4 products. Also make sure to install the appropriate JDK before installing weblogic.
    Thanks,
    EJ
