Metadata Templates

Is there any way to copy an existing metadata template and then edit it? For instance, I create a template to use on import for my 2006 images and I want to copy it to another template and then edit it for 2007 copyright info. I don't seem to be able to do this in LR or maybe I'm just missing it.

Quit LR so the changes will be recognized. Locate your original preset, duplicate the file, name it appropriately and open it in a text editor. Change the field(s) and save it.
On the Mac they can be found at:
User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Metadata Presets

  • Bridge corrupts jpg metadata when applying metadata template (no preview in Finder)

    Hi,
Since a short while I found that applying one of my metadata templates (copyright etc.) to .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CC corrupts the metadata. What's seen is that the preview thumbnails in Finder disappear (change to jpg-logo), and there's no other way to get them back then by stripping all the metadata (I used ImageOptim).
The weird thing is, it only affects jpgs that are rendered straight from Capture One Pro 8. Pics in .jpg that are rendered by Photoshop CC don't go corrupt.

  • Metadata Templates Disabled

fter performing some maintenance on metadata templates, with Bridge CS4 in OSX-Lion, when I go to Tools | Replace Metadata, all items in the list of templates are disabled (grayed out). Have tried stopping/restarting Bridge and restarting my Mac. Result is the same.
Would you please show me how to re-enable the templates shown in the list.
    Best,
    jwc

First check if those files are not locked and the folder or drive they are on has read and write permission. If so try to select these files and with right mouse click choose purge cache for selection, maybe that will help

Tried that but it did not help in my case. I narrowed the problem down to only 20 images. Will try to delete and reload from SD card, since I still have them. This is one weird problem, however. Happened with images from my Panasonic Lumix G2K, RW2 files converted to DNG.

  • Do you know why the metadata template in Bridge fails for DNGs?

I am writing in IPTC (IIM, Legacy) and IPTC Core metadata into dng files in Bridge (CS4) using the Metadata Templates, and the template I set up works fine for jpgs but when I try to use it for dngs the captions/keywords get written over using the file info from the first image in the folder.
If I select all images in the folder (in Bridge) then right click to File Info and use the Metadata Template I set up with "Keep original metadata, but replace matching properties from template" selected it over-writes the captions/keywords. When all the images are selected and you look at the file info it should say (Multiple Values) in the Caption/Keyword panels but it doesn't, it fills in with the first image in the folder. But if I select all the images and use the drop down from the metadata tab and click Replace Metadata and selected the template I set up it works just fine and the captions/keywords remain in tact.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Savanah

    Hi there
First, let's get a bit clearer on our terminology, shall we?
What you are seeing is not a "Build Tag". Sure, the Span indicates a tag and it's there when you build, but a "Build Tag" is a special tag inside RoboHelp that you apply to specific content that you wish to omit from the build using a counterpart known as a "Build Expression".
A Build Tag in RoboHelp looks like this:
    <?rh-cbt_start condition="InProgress" ?>New model coming<?rh-cbt_end ?>
What you are reporting is an inline styling element.
Is this a project that began life in RoboHelp 9? Or was it created in an earlier version and was upgraded along the way? Does the same thing occur with a totally new topic you create?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Where are the MetaData Templates located in PS C6 on a Mac?

Where are the MetaData Templates located in PS C6 on a Mac that you can add your contact and copyright information to?
On a Windows machine they are located in Owner/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/XMP.  I have some templates that I want to copy from a Windows laptop over to a Macbook Pro.
    Thanks, Bill

I’m on Mac OS 10.6.8 and there it seems to be
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Metadata Templates
I think as of OS 10.7 Macintosh hides the Library, but one can get there by alt-clicking the Go-menu and selecting it from there … or something.

  • File Info Metadata Templates Photoshop CC 2014

In PS CC 2014 I have no direct access to previously generated metadata templates.
Under the new "Template" button in the File Info panel I have only an Import and Export option
How do I create a new template?
How do I access my 10 previous templates?
    Any suggestions
    Peter

I have had a similar issue. The "Info" panel in PS CC 2014 seems to be an incomplete rewrite, & needs to be fixed.
The panel has a cosmetic remake and the convenient dropdown selection of XMP templates I had in prior versions of PS CS & CC are absent.
A template can only be imported for a single use, so the next time you want to use it, it hasn't actually been imported to be added to the drop down list as per the earlier PS editions.
I am using a Mac so to get to my templates for those single uses I follow this path:
    HD-->Users-->(me)-->Library--> Application Support-->Adobe-->XMP-->Metadata Templates
I cannot import the entire template folder, and I can only select a single XMP file. This is tedious  to say the least and is a bug which needs fixing. I have yet to find a workaround, and the Adobe support person I spoke to seems to have difficulty differentiating presets from templates.
So I am using PS CC 2014's Metadata info panel at a minimum for now, and I am making most of my metadata changes in Bridge or Lightroom 5 with previously built templates.
This is even more frustrating as Bridge CC has not been updated for CC 2014, Adobe support has told me that they are still working on a Bridge 2014 release, and Bridge CC is not fully compatible with PS 2014. For example Mini-Bridge is absent, as is Adobe Exchange. It seems that PS CC 2014 was not quite ready for primetime.

  • Metadata template

I created a couple metadata templates that are no longer active and I would like to delete them.
Unfortunately, I can't find a way to do this and I have done a lot of research.
Can someone tell me how to delete them?

Believe it or not, I messed around and figured it out tho using a different method. I plugged the information into file/info/description (and whatever other tabs needed info)  and exported that work to the template folder, then saved it as a template. Someone once told me there are half a dozen ways (or more) to achieve the exact same thing in photoshop. At any rate, all is well and I've passed both methods on to the friend who needed it. Thks for answering so quickly. You guys rule

  • Can LR 4 use Bridge CS5 Metadata Templates?

I have generated approx 30 + Metadata Templates in Bridge CS5 and I want to see if I can speed up my work flow when working in Lightroom 4.
So I suppose the question is ; is it possible to achieve the apparent impossible or is there a solution?
    Thanks in advance

Does anybody know where they go?
Try this document from the Adobe Knowledge base:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82893.html
It is about PS and I can't find one for Bridge but it might be a guide to the location because that would be probably the same. I am a Mac user so can't confirm this myself

  • Creating metadata templates

I've completely ignored metadata templates over the 5 years I have been using Bridge. After reading an article on protecting IP, I decided that I should take an interest, and at least apply personal metadata on image import.
So, the first thing I did was look at Create Metadata Template. When I activate this dialog box, I get this:
I was stumped as to how to proceed, until I saw a website screenshot, and realised this is wrong. I searched the forums but came up empty.
Can anyone suggest how I might solve this, please?

    {smacks forehead}
Try this a little longer because it took you 4 years to start using this very useful option... :-) :-)
Here is an example of my template that I have selected to be added on import using Photodownloader. When the 'keepers' are ready I only need to add additional info in the Description field, the city and keywords. Sometimes I need to change the province or even country but these filled template settings are most common for my work area so I decided it is easier to fill them in already and when needed change them.
Mind also the copyright fields. Just an example, there are more ways of doing it :-)

  • Metadata templates overwrite 'Date created'

I've experienced this frustrating problem for years but now need to do something about it.
I have a metadata template which I apply to my pictures but everytime this action is performed I'm left with the creation date of the images changed to the date that I created the template (3 years ago)
This problem has been present through all versions of Photoshop that I've used from CS2 to CS5.
Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a way around it?

Have you checked your template for Date Created?

  • Copyright symbol and metadata template question

In Bridge CS6 I have placed the copyright symbol, year and my name in the "Copyright Notice" section of a metadata template.  Chosen "Copyrighted" in the "Copyright Status" section.  And listed the terms in the "Right, Usage, Terms" section.  When I apply the template everything appears except that in the "Copyright Notice" section only my name shows.  No copyright symbol or year.
What am I doing wrong?  Am I putting the information in the correct places?   (I have done it this way before using Lightroom, and it worked fine.)

Sorry!  User error.  The copyright info I programmed in my camera was over riding the Bridge template.  Duh.  The template is working perfectly.

  • How can I access the metadata templates?

I would like to use metadata templates in Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 from the File > File Info... menu option. When I click on Import in the Template drop-down menu at the bottom, the file browser comes up with the Metadata Templates folder selected but I can't navigate into the folder to select a particular template. I can swipe to see half of the column but it springs right back so I can't select a template.
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.3.

    komphoto,
The keywords file is buried deep inside the INVISIBLE user Library, or "~Library" (that's a tilde before the word Library, which designates the User Library, a.k.a, the Home Folder Library).
In order to make it visible temporarily, you have to go to the Finder, then go to the "Go" menu and select the "Go To Folder…" menu item, and type ~Library in the text field.
That will open a new Finder window which will be grayed out to indicate that it's normally hidden.  From there you can follow the path:
Note that I'm not saying this will work.  I have never done it myself.  I'm just trying to clear up the confusion caused by the previous poster.

  • Exporting Metadata Templates from my old computer

I am trying to Export my Metadata Templates form my old Mac (running on Bridge CS3) to my new Mac (running on Bridge CC).
I have located the folder on my old Mac:
    Library/Appliation Support/Adobe/XMP/Metadata Templates
I dropped the Metadata Templates folder onto a memory stick and then transferred it to the same location on my new Mac.  However, I still can't see the templates.
If I go to Tools/EditMetadata Template, Tools/Append Metadata or Tools/Replace Metadata, it just says "No Templates"
Please can someone advise what I am doing wrong?
    Many thanks
    Claire

I have located the folder on my old Mac:
    Library/Appliation Support/Adobe/XMP/Metadata Templates
If you mean the library in your user account you are at the right place. But If there are no templates in this folder on you old Mac then they will not appear in your new one.
Don't remember if CS3 had the same templates, it is a long time ago I used this version. However I do believe the newer versions have better template options to offer due to more fileds (also if I try to recall there was a bit of a problem with the copyright line itself, it stated no copyright by default.
Don't know if you had much but I would prefer to create new ones in CC. Otherwise use your old mac and choose edit templates, pick the ones you need and save them to a place you can find them back. Then copy these to the stick and drag them into the templates folder in the user library of your CC version.
While you are at it, if you had a custom keyword list in CS3 also use same fly out menu and choose export, then import again in new version to have this list available in CC, if not you will end up with italic keywords and have to choose 'make persistent' for each keyword.

  • Metadata template created in Bridge can't change "Copyright Status" property

If I create a metadata template in Bridge CS4, select Copyright Status and set it to Copyrighted,
any other metadata changes in the template will be applied, but "Copyright Status won't change.
I can't even manually set the Copyright Status from within Bridge.  If I try, I get an error message,
    "This property cannot be modified."
Here's the workaround — create the template in Photoshop or Illustrator, not Bridge.
Open one of the images in Photoshop or Illustrator, select File Info, enter the metadata,
and select Export.  The resulting template will be available in Bridge,
and it can change the Copyright Status.
A fix for this in the next incarnation of Bridge would be greatly appreciated.

As with almost all my problems, there is apparently no solution, so I am going to try reinstalling photoshop. So can someone at least tell me what is likely to be overwritten so that I can protect it.  And where they are stored? EG Web Gallery templates?  Keywords?

  • Common Folder for Metadata Templates - Max OSX

Photoshop CS5 and Bridge CS4 appear to share the same set of metadata templates, whereas Lightroom 3.6 appears to have its own set of metadata templates. Please if there is a way to facilitate sharing the same set of templates among all three apps.

The folder was eventually found under:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\XMP\Metadata Templates
