Metadata warning

I keep getting the following warning on multiple files that have not been opened in or modified by any application other than Lightroom 4.2 (ACR 7.2):
The metadata for this photo has been changed by another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?
This is driving me crazy. I'm getting this warning with some files exported to Photoshop and saved as tifs and psds back in Lightroom also... and losing changes made to some files... but why now also with files that have only been in Lightroom? Is there a solution for both situations?
Thanks for any help.

Don't panick! This warning does not indicate that there is anything wrong with your images.
You must have <Automatically write changes into XMP> enabled in >Catalog Settings >Metadata tab. When you do this, Lr writes the edits not only into its catalog but also into an XMP-file (more correctly: Lr writes to an XMP sidecar file for Raw images and into the header of the image file (but not into the image pixels!) for JPGs, TIFFs, PSDs, DNGs).
The warning you receive means that Lr "sees" a discrepancy between the edit-data in its catalog and the data in XMP. You can safely leave it at that because Lr will display your images with the data stored in the catalog, and will only "revert" to the data stored in XMP when you do <Read Metadata from File>.
The discrepancy between the data in the Lr catalog and the data in XMP is not harmful - except that Lr may display the images different than Bridge or PSE (Bridge/PSE cannot read the Lr catalog and can only display according to the XMP-data).
The warning usually disappears if you uncheck the box <Automatically write changes into XMP> enabled in >Catalog Settings >Metadata tab.
If you need XMP (for instance because you need to display the Lr-edits also in Bridge or in PSE) then you have to do a manual <save to metadata> via Ctrl./Cmd. + "S". You can do this in the Grid Mode for a whole batch of images: Highlight all images yo want to save to XMP and hit Ctrl./Cmd. + "S".
Instead of Ctrl./Cmd. + "S" you can also do >Metadata >Save Metadata to file (in Library Module) or >Photo Save Metadata to file (in DevelopModule).

  • Metadata warning -- and I don't know what to do? :(

Hello, I recently moved my Lightroom from a pc to a mac.  Right after I started getting a pop up that says:
"the metadata for this photo has been changed by another application. Should lightroom import setting from disk or overwrite settings with those from the catalog?"
There's also an upward facing arrow on image where this warning pops up.
I have a screen shot I can show you but not sure how to upload that here.  I don't know what this warning means or what to do.  Can anyone help?  Reaching adobe CS is challenging to say the least.
    Thank you so much!

If you haven't changed develop settings or metadata "externally" (outside Lightroom), just choose 'Overwrite Settings', which means essentially "the develop settings and metadata in my catalog are to be kept, so quit bugging me..".
To solve all at once - select all photos and hit Cmd-S.
    Detailed background info:
Lr is monitoring disk files and if ever they change (since photo changed in Lightroom), you'll get that message. Usually, they change because you edited them in another app, e.g. Ps/Bridge or manufacturer's software, in which case Lr is trying to warn you that catalog settings and disk files have both changed and so Lr has lost confidence in settings and metadata and you must dictate which are to be kept. Often Lr is smart enough to know there is no conflict, but not always (sometimes there are red-herrings/false-positives that throw it off..).
PS - ChangeManager (a free plugin I wrote) will list differences in develop settings and metadata in catalog vs. disk files, in case you want to see exactly what's different.

  • Fix Metadata Warning

    Hi,
I had created a report and this is working fine in the my laptop and the local Presentation Services, but when i putting this in the Dev/Test Environment it is throwing an error
"State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14026] Unable to navigate requested expression: Procurement - Key Dates.Fiscal Year. Please fix the metadata consistency warnings. (HY000)"
I am not able to undertand the issue.
    Regards,
    Amit

Just a few things off the top of my head you can check:
    1) Check your dimensional hierarchies and make sure that they are all in order (keys setup properly, number of distinct values setup properly)
    2) Check any measures and look at their Content levels. Make sure those are in order.
    3) Check that you included dimensions that were actually linked to your fact via a foreign key.
    Best regards,
    -Joe

  • Adding Metadata to folders/ Searching Drive for Keywords not just one folder -  Bridge CC 2014

    Hello Adobe world,
I'm trying to add Metadata to folders not the files. The files in the folders already have metadata and in one folder we have 360 images of the same thing. When I do a keyword search I don't want to go though 20+ sets of 360 duplicate files. I need to do keyword searching for folders. When I have tried adding keywords to the folders I get "the file cannot store xmp metadata" warning. I tried clearing the cache on the file because it said that would help in another forum but it did not help. Does any one know how to fix this? I don't know why we could not assign descriptions or keywords to folders. It would be very useful!!  Some one please help!
as of 2/24/2015 -  This is still unanswered. I want to be able to find files throughout my whole drive based on the metadata tags I put on all my 100,000+ images. These 100,000+ images are dispersed thought out multiple folders. I need to be able to find all the files with specific Metadata tags in common but bridge will not let me search outside of one defined folder? HELP!

  • Import from catalog - Metadata

    Hi
I have exported a bunch of images as catalog on my desktop PC. On my laptop I import this catalog into an existing catalog.
So far, everything as expected. However, on all images that I have added this way I get a metadata warning. I have not set to write metadata to xmp on my laptop nor on the desktop. If I tell it to correct the issue, it writes an xmp.
To my understanding it should simply store the metadata to the catalog and not asking for writing an xmp if not set in the preferences.
    What did I miss?
    Thanks,
    McL
    btw: I am on 5.4 on Win7

If on the metadata warning badge the arrow is pointing down, then really there isn't an issue to correct. Because you don't automatically write XMP, then as soon as any metadata change is made to an image the metadata status becomes "Lightroom catalog metadata is newer than the original file", which is just what that badge is telling you.
For those users who have the autowrite to XMP option enabled in the Catalog settings, this warning should not be seen as the catalog and file metadata should always be in sync. For those users who do NOT have autowrite to XMP enabled. but who DO like to manually save the metadata via the Ctrl+S command, this metadata status indicator is a useful way for them to determine that metadata has been updated and they need to do that Ctrl+S.
For those users like me who never write XMP to their files, nor open their files in other programs outside Lightroom, that warning is redundant. Fortunately Lightroom allows us to disable that warning badge via the View Options menu, which is what I do.....
So perhaps you simply have the View Option set differently on the two systems?

  • Storage spaces , stale metadata

    Hi!
First of all, unfortuneatly I wasn't able to attach screenshots, so I'll try to describe the problem in text.
I ran in to a storage spaces problem on a Windows server 2012 where the pool is degraded. Disk 9 seems to have been evicted to the primordial pool.
Running the Get-PhysicalDisk shows a Stale Metadata operational status.
    PhysicalDisk9       False               Stale Metadata      Warning
    Auto-Select
However, I've got no alerts from our SCOM monitoring regarding this.  Also when looking in the raid tools supplied by the JBOD manufacturer everything seems to be fine, so I got no alerts from that one either. In the manufacturers software the disk
is reported as Status: available with 0 SMART errors.
So the question is: What is the stale metadata error? Is this disk actually broken? (doesnt seem like that according to the vendors utilitys). Should this disk be replaced or is it some kind of software errror that can be repaired?
    Advice needed.
    BR
    Peter

    Hi,
the same here, latest Windows 2012 R2 updates were installed. LB Policy is FOO. It is a SOFS Cluster with 2 Nodes and 4JBODS

What cloud be the reasons for "Stale Metadata" in Storage Spaces ?

  • Metadata Status Box

I am using Lightroom 4 and its working fine however today for the first time I noticed the following comments in the Metadata Status box which I don't understand and have not been able to find any help in my guidebook.
    Metadata Status reads
    All (2 Metadata Statuses) 29965
    Has been changed 29836
    Up to date 129
Is there a problem with my database that I don't know about and should I be concerned?

"Metadata Status" refers - as dj_paige has said - to writing the metadata to file (either true sidecar file or into the header of JPGs, TIFFs, PSDs and DNGs - but not into the image pixels!)
This "writing metadata to file" is a separate and additional saving of the metadata that are already saved in the Lr catalog. Lr saves everything you do in Lr instantly and automatically in its database (= catalog). Since it is not saved in the image pixels - as you probably know - it is called metadata.
In addition to the saving in the catalog there is the option of "writing metadata to file". But this option is not necessary for the function of Lr. It is a feature that enables users to see the Lr edits in Adobe Bridge.
The warning you are referring to means that the data in the catalog and in the file are not identical. Since Lr always uses the catalog (unless you do a "read metadata from file") your photos and the edits are safe and sound.
However, if you want to also save the metadata to file, go to the Catalog panel (just above the Folders panel) and select <All Photographs>. In the Grid View, press Ctrl / Cmd + A (letter A on your keyboard)  to select all of your photos. Then press Ctrl / Cmd + S to save the metadata for all selected photos to file. **) This will make the metadata in the catalog and in the file identical - for the moment. As soon as you do further editing in Lr, the metadata in catalog and file will again be different (for the edited photos). Naturally you can repeat the Cmd / Ctrl + S process for the edited photos.
I have this in my workflow: As soon as I have edited a bunch of photos, or at the end of the day, I go to the Grid View, select all newly edited photos and do Ctrl + S.
There is also a feature in Catalog Settings / Metadata tab to <Automatically write changes to XMP>. But I would recommend not to check this box because (a) it causes a constant reloading of TIFFs and PSDs in the Develop Module which is not harmful but annoying; and (b) there is an old bug that causes to send the "metadata warning" message when this box is checked.
**) Depending on the number of photos in your catalog this can take quite a while.

And i would like to know how to set up the environment variable for Oracle_HOME and ORACLE_SID.
Please kindly assist me on this.

Looking at the error message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , It appears hostname and port may be incorrect. Review the targets.xml under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\emd and
emoms.properties under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\config folder to make sure host ( sap_solman) and port (1527) are correct.
As far as setting the environment variables goes, you can go to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables and set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID

Remove the localhost alias from this above enty.
localhost should be - and probably also is - pointing to 127.0.0.1

  • BPM Studio 11.1.1.5 Install Issues

    Greetings,
I am trying to work with BPM Studio 11g but have been unsuccessful at getting the extensions installed correctly with JDeveloper 11g. I have a fresh installation of JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 and installed the BPM Studio extensions for JDeveloper via Help>Check for updates in JDeveloper. The download and installation process appeared to work fine however when I try to utilize the BPM functionality in most circumstances nothing happens or the options are not available. The BPM Analyst role is available via Tools>Preferences>Roles and the option to create a BPM Application/Project also seems to work, but not much else. I noticed a list of warnings in the JDeveloper 'extensions' log window that suggests the extensions weren't installed correctly. I've uninstalled JDev and installed 11.1.1.3 with BPM Studio extensions and I get the same issues. I'm not sure what to do at this point.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
If you can't connect to the internet from your JDeveloper, you can directly download JDeveloper extensions from the below link, and point the Check for Updates wizard to the local file you have downloaded.
    http://download-llnw.oracle.com/otn-pub/jdeveloper/11.1.1.5.0/extensions/bpm-jdev-extension.zip
    Thanks

  • Unreachable Agent

I'm new to the tool and have OEM installed on 1 server.
The status of the 1 host I have an agent is "Agent Unreachable". I have ensured that an agent is running on the server. The agent appears to be running on port 1831. When doing emctl status agent, the Agent URL is http://hostname:1831/emd/main.
On the Host targets page in OEM, I see a name called db1p:3872.
I'm new to this, but it appears that the DBconsole is looking for the agent on prot 3872 and its really on 1831.
Am I reading this right. If so, how do I change the port in the DBconsole or agent.
Any other thoughts would help me sleep better this afternoon.
    Thanks,
    John

I'm sure that I have this configured wrong, but here goes. I'm on an HP UX server. At the present time I am supposed to 1 agent on DB1t and OEM on the same server. The server has 3 oracle instances: HSI1, HSI2, and HSI3.
I have 5 emd.property files. They are located in the following directory:
    $ORACLE_BASE/sysman/config/emd.properties
    $ORACLE_BASE/db1t_HSI1/sysman/config/emd.properties
    $ORACLE_BASE/db1t_HSI2/sysman/config/emd.properties
    $ORACLE_BASE/db1t_HSI3/sysman/config/emd.properties
    $ORACLE_BASE/oms10g/sysman/config/emd.properties
I modified both the first and last files, but not the middle 3.
Also, this is troubling to me. I shut down OEM using emctl stop dbconsole. Yet I can still call it up from a Web browser. It says that it is stopping, but I can still display the 10g console. I'm using the Grid Control page from the Web, but I'm not sure how to bounce it.
Here is the Emd_properties file. The fifth one:
    # perl executable directory

  • Not seeing DNG edits in quicklook and coverflow

I found another archived post about this that went unanswered a few years ago, so I'm asking again. Does anyone have any information on how to see edits to DNG files or edits from Adobe Camera Raw xml files in quicklook and coverflow? I'm trying to decouple myself from lightroom and this is a MAJOR problem.

When you send to PSD with Lightroom changes, it should render one layer in PSD that represents the original image and any changes you made in LR. So if you're seeing all those changes in PS, I'm not sure how that layer could have things undone to it. Are you sure the changes are represented in PS and not simply the PS showing the image differently? Can you try it with a drastic change in LR like a heavy, heavy vignette and make sure that shows up in PS?
Was that the first trip in to PS for that image? I've seen some inconsistencies before with multiple trips in to PS with XMP turned on where Lightroom gets out of sync with the changes that were made in PS. I did a post about it over on my blog that's a bit complicated so I'll link it here: http://bit.ly/14khoR2. Not sure if the same situation can happen with the DNG.
When you get back in to Lightroom, does the film strip have a little icon on the image that looks like three lines and an exclamation mark? That's the "I'm out of sync" with the metadata warning flag.
If you export to Photoshop as TIFF, do you see the same behavior?
Finally, does it do it on every image or just one? Maybe LR got glitched with what it thought were changes for that specific image and needs a kick.

  • Edits in Lightroom 5-then in Photoshop CC -back to Lightroom

    Hi,
    Hope you can help.
    1) Imported a raw image from camera (converted to dng) into lightroom 5.
    2) performed some edits in the "Develop" module.
    3) Did some further external edits in Photoshop CC-by switching to Photoshop CC trough Lightroom -"edit in" Lightroom menu item- Lightroom edits preserved in photoshop.
    4 "saved" in Photoshop CC
    5) Back to Lightroom-- Original edits from lightroom no longer in edited copy from photoshop.
Question-- How to preserve Lightroom edits? Tried doing a copy of the Lightroom settings before going to Photoshop and then pasting back into the edited copy form photoshop. Did not work out-Don't know which setting to save-saving everthing- terrible result.
    Thanks.
