Metadata without images??

I have been working to get rid of inconsistencies in applying metadata (CA vs. California, for example), and after changing all of the photos with CA to California, I discovered that there were still 14 occurances of CA, but there are no images to go with them. That is, in the Metadata Browser when I click on CA, there are no images in Grid View. Does anyone know how this might happen and what if anything can or needs to be done about it?

Well, the count never changed, so I decided to see what would happen if I imported the XMP metadata from the files. After a very very long time, the metadata from 12,000 files finished, and big surprise, There were now 650 images with CA rather than California. So I changed CA to California, and when it finished, the count for CA was still 650, but with no thumbnails in grid view.

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • Add metadata (non-image data) to an image

    Hello,
I want to read an image and add metadata (non-image data) like copyright... to the image and write it. I am able to read metadata of an image but couldn't add (write) into it...
    Help required urgently
    Regards

instead of data streams, why not just write the blob's bytes to the response output stream directly, then in the applet, you don't need a URLConnection object to get the image, just call getImage() in the applet with the URL.

  • Update XSLT engine, add metadata to images.

    Hello,
It'd be super fantastic if the XSLT engine could be updated and support XSLT 2.0. Also have the option to format and indent on export.
I don't think I can add metadata to images within InDesign. That be another plus.
    Regards,
    Eric

It shouldn't be too hard (I guess ...) to make the XSLT processor a user-definable choice. That way I could use my trusty Saxon 8.0, wiv' extensions, smack right inside ID.

  • Appending Metadata without losing keywords?

I am trying to append some metadata on some RAW Canon files, 1D Mark III, that had has some light keywording already done do it before I appended the metadata. When I do this, append the metadata, I lose the all keywords. Is there a work around for this?

    Let me describe my workflow,
I use Adobe Photodwonloader for ingestion files. In this app I have set :
    - the folder where the files have to go to
    - a new rename wit yyyymmdd and a sequence number (keep original filename in
    metadata)
    - convert to DNG
    - back up original Raw files to a separate disk
    - and adding a copyright template to the metadata.
Hitting the OK button once does this for all the files. After ingestion and
caching in Bridge all the files now have a basic template in it
The files I want to have metadata written to ( in my case the IPTC fields
for description, date created and place - state and country are also in the
template and only now and then the state has to be altered).
For this I use the content en metadata panel.
In Bridge prefs I have set the metadata fields that are important for me to
visible with a checkmark. This results in a very small number of lines in
this panel. I select the files that need the same metadata and point mouse
or pen tool to the description field.
In here I type, when ready I hit the tab key that brings me to the next
visible field, and so on. At last I hit the enter key in the numeric keypad
and I'm done for the next session without any pop up menu in the way.
If you select an other file to add metadata without hitting the enter key
you will be prompted with the pop up message. However, there is a checkbox
in it that says: don't show again
    Hope this helps for you.
S there a faster way to change metadata without affecting the keywords?

  • Print Web Pages Without Images

    Hi,
With Internet Explorer, in Print Preview, I had the choice pf printing with text, images and url, or with with text and one of the other two, or with text alone.
I want to know how to print text alone or text with url—without images—in safari.
    Is it doable?
    Thanks

    Hi,
In the Print... -> Safari options you can turn on/off the printing of the url.
To turn off the images you'll have to change the Safari preferences to not load images (Safari preferences -> Appearance) and reload the page to drop the images.
So, it's doable, but just not simply checking a couple of option in the print dialog.
Send feedback to the Safari team if you think this should be a print option:

  • HTML Gallery, metadata and image download

    hi,
I find Bridge collections really useful and output to html gallery template pretty good looking as a quick way to show prospect clients themed presentations of my work. There are two issues though which I hope someone can help with, or that Adobe would change if  listening in on this.
Whereas the html gallery template reads the metadata like description, title and filename,  metadata is being stripped from the image when image is downloaded from gallery.
That the image can be downloaded and that meta data is stripped from the image files are two reasons not to use what otherwise could have been an excellent product.
I would prefer the coding of this html gallery to prevent download of individual image files and as content providers we totally rely on metadata being contained with image file. Are there ways I can change this without going to script amendements?
If the solution should not be with adobe, could anyone suggest another product that could cater for this need?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Torunn

Amendments (and apologies for errors in my original post. Copyright status, -notice and -url are indeed contained in metadata for downloaded image, so not so bad then Wish list thus shortended to description field and the IPTC contact data. Though why not all?

  • Metadata ON image in browser view?

i have been finding an issue in deleting duplicate images which i am doing manually and i am wondering if anyone can help with this. since these duplicates are the same /image/ but may not have the same name or the same resolution i do the following (i keep the one with the highest resolution)
first i start in a browser view that lets me see all the images and then i do a manual sort to put the same images next to the same images. now the problem starts.
in order to /see/ the metadata such as image size and file size i have to go into List view where i can see this information. then when i find the smaller of the two images i want to delete this one but since the image is so small in list view (and since i can't click to open it) i have to go back to browser view to see the image. then i go back to list view to delete it.
since all the images look the same in list view (and since my images are not named the same) i sometimes use a black placeholder image which i move around and put between sets of duplicates while in browser view so that when i go back to list view i can make sure to see that the next two images are in fact the dupes of each other - to make sure i am not deleting a small image that is actually the only version of an image/file in my database. i mean, since i can't SEE this image in list view it is almost impossible for me to know which image it is in reality and deleting it without going back into browser view seems like an especially bad idea.
is there a solution to this that might involve enlarging the THUMBNAILS IN LIST VIEW or being able to see image size and file size in BROWSER VIEW without it being too messy?
    TIA for any help.
    - jon

One more suggestion, Jon. Have you considered to stack the duplicates in browser view? This way stacked images will be grouped in list view, and you can easily tell, which images belong to the same set of duplicates, for example: Three similar images stacked - you can disclose them by pressing the disclosur triangle and compare the file sizes. The stacked images will be indented in the list.

  • Edit metadata without changing modified file date

I'd like to use Bridge (CS4) to edit metadata in both JPEGs and RAW files, without changing the original file date/time stamp.
Any way I can do this? Thanks.

Thanks. I'm familiar with the file date utilities available (I've even written such a program myself), but it seems like an awkward solution.
Since first posting this question, I discovered that I can keep my raw files untouched, by selecting Camera Raw Preferences > Save image settings > Sidecar .xmp files.
I'd like to see a similar setting for JPEG images as well. Please?

  • How can I configure the save page mode (to save DEFAULT WITH OR WITHOUT images and other dependencies in a folder)?

I like it that I can save webpages with or without dependencies in a separated folder. And its implementation in Firefox (e.g. it remembers how I saved something before, and that way becomes the default) can also be good sometimes. But usually it is not.
Usually I want to save pages as HTML-only. Sometimes, but only sometimes I have to save a page as a whole (I don't know the name of the feature). But after I save something with dependencies, I often forget that, and don't care about this option. Firefox, however, doesn't forget it, and saves thousands of unimportant images, until I notice it and switch it off again.
    This is not good.
I tried Google Chrome, which simply don't remember how I saves something before, and always select the complete page option for default. It is exactly the opposite of the perfect solution (in my opinion). The best would be if the browser would save everything as HTML only, if I don't change it. Or it would be even better if I could configure it manually (turn this remembering feature on/off).
This is not a beginner's problem, so it would be good if only a config option solved this. I imagine that already exists a config option for this, but I could not find it. I found only the "browser.download.save_converter_index" option, which depends on how I used it last time.
Is there a config option for this? Or should I report this in the Firefox brainstorm page?
    Thank you for your time
    D. J. S.

That choice is remembered in the Integer pref <b>browser.download.save_converter_index</b>
    0: Web Page, complete (default)
    1: Web Page, HTML only
    2: Text files
If you want to reset that choice to HTML only on every start of Firefox then you can use this line in the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/user.js_file user.js]
    <pre><nowiki>user_pref("browser.download.save_converter_index", 1);
    </nowiki></pre>

  • How do I add a business card to a signature without image

    Hi everyone,
Please forgive me if the answer is here, but I could not find it.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010. I’d like to add a Business Card (vCard) to be included with my signature but this also adds an image of it in my signature which I do not want.

  • Lighroom 3 writing metadata to image files?

    Hi,
I have been wondering why my backups (differential) weregetting larger than they should, and I noticed that some of the files (.psd and .jpg, and mayde few .tiff) were modified. Interestingly, I do not see this happening to cr2-files, that I mostly use. After trying to figure out what's going on I noticed that corresponding xmp-files were modified also. This is not the issue due to their small size, but still I had not edited images that were changed for quite a while.
Change that I see in xmp-files is rather large, and presumably related to Adobe's change in xmp-data structure. Eg.
    <x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="Adobe XMP Core 5.3-c007 1.136881, 2010/06/10-18:11:35
    ">
    <x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="Adobe XMP Core 4.2-c020 1.124078, Tue Sep 11 2007 23:21:40
    ">
In addition to the sample above, whole xmp structure is changed. So I presume that maybe LR is writing metadata chages to xmp in the background?
What I find disturbing is that when checking changed jpg files, I saw the similar data written into the jpg files also (files were created with oldish Canon 20D, and not edited for quite a while). These are examples from changed jpg-files (not the same from which the abone xmp-data change was taken, but similar change is visible in the corresponding XMP):
Also jpg-file from offset 0x04 was changed from "50 60" to "51 18". Also offset 0x10 was changed (16 bits).
I have Lightroom configuration option "Include develope settings in Metadata Inside JPEG, TIFF and PSD Files" not selected. The option "Automatically write changes to XMP" is selected. To my understanding neither of these should not have impact to the issue. Is there something else I should check?
Change is made most likely by Lightroom 3.5 version, and has not occurred with previous versions. I have not notices this happening with 3.6, but I have been using it only few weeks. Is this known issue with previous version 3.5, or am I missing something obvious?
System running is Windows 7 pro 64bit. I have not have any issues with LR lately, except crashes that I white about a week ago.
Any advice on what's going on?

So I was missing something. Thank you Hal.
I had not realised that XMP goes inside of actual image files with those file types. Obviously my new backup routine spotted that, as I was on backuping only modified/new files.
I would much prefer that also with above mentioned file types XMP-data would be stored in sidecar files instead of modifying the original file. To support this there are two arguments that I think are valid:
    1) modification of the file is always risky (and spesifically, with image originals I prefer to avoid that),
    2) modification leads to the fact that "smarter" backup strategies relying on "full backup" supported with differential or incremental backups lead to unnecessary long backuptimes and media consumption.
That said, I prefer to have XMP-data also outside of the catalog so that other tools can also utilise it  (further, in addition to the catalog with sidecars I have sort of failover approach, and some of you may now say "belt and syspenders" after mentioning backups...).
Is there a way to have all file types to utilise sidecars rather that modifying original file?

  • Aperture & iPhoto metadata when images NOT stored in iPhoto

Thinking of "upgrading" to Aperture from iPhoto '11 - still want to use iPhoto for organization but Aperture for hopefully better editing capabilities, etc.
Have 30,000+ images with keywords, etc. in iPhoto; the image files are NOT stored IN iPhoto, i.e., they are organized in folders external to iPhoto's library. The iPhoto library file best I can tell stores thumbnails and keyword metadata, etc.
I'd like to use Aperture and have access to all of iPhoto's keywords, etc. but to use the original photo files.
Can Aperture be setup to work this way? i.e., to pull in the 30,000+ photos' keywords yet reference the same originals that iPhoto is referencing?
I don't want to duplicate the 30,000+ originals... In all likelihood I'd only ever want to manipulate a small percentage of the total image library in Aperture.
    Any suggestions appreciated!

re: "Basically to edit an image, stored in iPhoto, in Aperture you would have to export the image from iPhoto import into Aperture modify it export it out of Aperture and import it back into iPhoto."
My point is that in my case the images are NOT *stored* IN iPhoto...
Yes I understand, your iPhoto library is setup using referenced masters, the termed used when the master file is stored outside of the programs database. And you could setup Aperture in the same way and they would both be pointing to the same master file, external to both programs databases.
But here's here's the kicker: The master file *is never modified* by either program. I believe iPhoto makes a copy of the master when you apply adjustments (someone with a greater understanding of iPhoto can correct me here) how it does it isn't important what is important is that he master isn't modified; Aperture also leaves the master alone. It records the adjustments you make as a stream on instructions and applies those to the master when you want to create an adjusted image. What you see (normally) in Aperture's views are previews of the adjusted image. So changes you make in Aperture won't be seen in iPhoto because iPhoto is looking at the original master file, not Aperture's adjusted version.
Now you can share the preview from Aperture with iPhoto, but at this point you basically have the adjusted image in two places.
And in reference to the other response that suggests that iPhoto and Aperture use different databases, I'd completely expect that to be the case. What I'm wondering about is can Aperture initialize its database from iPhoto's database; i.e., create its equivalent to iPhoto's "library" file (where all the iPhoto metadata is stored) from iPhoto's AND like iPhoto reference the original files in their original location.
Yes Aperture can initialize a database of its own based on the iPhoto library and that library can be setup to use referenced masters, see above.
I don't see why I'd need to 'export' any image from iPhoto (unless of course I'd "edited" it in iPhoto - in which case the *modified* file IS I think stored IN iPhoto's library) but that's my point... I don't WANT to edit the files with iPhoto... I want to edit the files with Aperture.
You're right you won't need to export from iPhoto if you setup both with referenced masters. But like I said above to get back to iPhoto you will have to export from Aperture unless you can live with using the previews in iPhoto. But again you will basically have two identical library structures, at least at start, as time goes on they will diverge.
I hope this better clarifies what I'm trying to explain.
It does, I hope my reply also helps explain the difficulties with this setup and why it's not as cut and dry as it first appears.
I have read *many* other posts that point out what you're pointing out but they all seem to make assumptions about wanting to modify files in Aperture which were previously *modified* in iPhoto. The unmodified "original" photos (assuming both iPhoto and Aperture have the ability that iPhoto has to reference the original files from a location *external* to iPhoto) are then by definition are already shared between iPhoto and Aperture so there's no need to 'export' from one to the other, no?
As I've said whats shared is the original unmodified master image. Once either program modifies it it is no longer shared.
