Metadata writing in progress...error

I am getting this error:
"Metadata writing in progress (1file pending). If you quite before writing is complete, data will be lost. Are you sure you want to quit?"
The program sits there for hours, one time over a day and nothing happens. I have to force quit. This is happening along with the infamous "unsupported or damaged file" error that folks are getting when importing RED footage.
It would be awesome if anyone could find a way to fix this...ADOBE...hello?

All my audio (WAV) files got destroyed by "Metadata writing in progress" error. Help please?

I am running Adobe Premiere CS6.03 which is the most current update I believe. I am running Windows 7 64bit with 16GB RAM 3.60 GHz quad core.
When I tried to save my project I got the error "Metadata writing in progress (2 files pending). If you quit before writing is complete, data will be lost. Are you sure you want ot quit? "
I waited 30 minutes but nothing changed. So I just accepted and exited. Then when I reopened the project all the sound looked like this:
They are WAV files from a Zoom H4N. The video files work perfectly. For some reason it's just the audio files that got destroyed. The actual original WAV files itself are fine it's just that particular sequence, in fact I can pull the original audio files from the project tab into the same sequence and they will play. It would take me ages to reconstruct the audio sequence piece by piece. I tried "Replace Footage" which didn't work and I tried linking the media all over again which didn't work. I've been working on this project forever. Is there any fix for this?

If you have "save media cache next to originals when possible" ticked in your preferences then you might need to delete the .pek files that Premiere generates from the folder that your wav files are in. Premiere will make a new one, and I've found this has fixed similar audio issues that I've had in the past.
Otherwise, open a new project and then import the sequence from your old project into it, and see if that fixes it.

After updating to the latest version of the Premiere Pro last week, everytime I am closing the project I now get a "Metadata. Metadata writing in progress (n files pending). If you quit before writing is complete, data will be lost. Are you sure you want to quit? Yes/No" error window. Please see a screenshoot attached for one of such errors.
What is interesting, is that no matter how much time i give it the process is never complete.

So the metadata writing in Premiere is fairly involved.
It tries to write metadata in the background asynchronously, but only when the file isn't being touched by something else in the application or by some other application. What you're experiencing is potentially (I can't say for sure yet) where these 23 background metadata writing tasks never finished, or someone else never let go of the file. If that someone else is Premiere, it is definitely a bug (which is my current guess).
Are you able to provide which file types these 23 files are, and what sort of drive/volume they're on (e.g. local/external USB/firewire/SSD/etc).
And since a number of other posters are mentioning that this started in 6.0.2 for them, is that the same for you?

Bridge CS4 Metadata Writing Errors

When trying to write info into one field (IPTC Source field) on numerous image files (Select all), Bridge will not respond, it acts as if it is applying the metadata then when files are deselected, nothing. The metadata is not entered in any of the images. Anyone? They are all JPG files, granted there are a lot of them, about 200, but I have been able to make this work in the past and lately bridge has been remarkably quirky in this regard. I have been having similar issues with the keyword function as well.

May have figured this out,...there was a rogue .pdf in the same folder as the jpgs, removed this file to another folder and all seems to be well. Not sure why .pdf messes metadata writing up though...hmmm

ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error

I am using windows 7 on my 64-bit machine, and I installed oracle database 12c. Everything was installed fine, and i was able to connect to the HR schema. However, the next day when I wanted to connect, I got the ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error. What did I do wrong ? and what can I do to fix it ?? Thank you for the help.

The doc chapters explain the NEW multitenant architecture in detail. The new 12c architecture is SUBSTANTIALLY different from previous architectures. Until you read the docs about it and understand how it has been implemented you will continue to have NOTHING but problems.
I know that may sound like just another RTFM but for 12c it is imperative that you understand the new architecture if you want to avoid problems. There is no way to explain it all in the forums; Oracle takes a good two chapters just to cover the basics.
I also pointed you to an article that shows how to startup the CDB and PDBs manually or write a STARTUP trigger to do it automatically.
Hopefully you are doing all of this in a VM environment as you seemingly implied in one of your other threads?

Metadata Writing

I selected 51 photo images and applied a metadata template to all.
How long should the metadata writing process require? My 3.5 Ghz 2 GB ram XP SP2 system has been cranking along for about 10 minutes. the caption at lower left of the Bridge window keeps flashing "___items ___selected ____MB (writing metadata to [the same file name])". Wondering if maybe the system has been overloaded??

After about 20 m. of the described behavior, I terminated Bridge, opened images in PS-CS4 and found (to my delight) that all photos had the correct metadata written to them.

Writing Metadata to File - Warnings & Errors

On my images I used "Edit Capture Time..." and then hit Ctrl+S to write the new capture time to the files. LR5 then showed me the message
"One or more of these photos has been changed in an external application. Should Lightroom overwrite the settings on disk?"
What puzzles me is that it says "external application". I have not modified the pictures outside of LR at all. Is this just an incorrect message or is there something else I need to worry about? Note that I only want the capture date to be updated and all other metadata in the files should remain.
On another note, I did get a lot of I/O errors. It happens with all 4 different cameras. I doubt all 4 cameras have defective SD cards. Also the images show up just fine. The capture date indeed has not been updated, though. Why do I get those errors?

when exiftool is working, does it write the metadata to the original raw file or the jpeg.
trying to find info on how to get round the "warning duplicate orientation tag in IFDO" error, has me scratching my head

When trying to edit metadata, I get an error "This property cannot be modified."

I took some photos with my iPhone 4, copied them to my desktop, and now I want to remove the GPS metadata from a few of them.
I tried to remove the properties directly in Windows 7, but I get an error saying "An error occurred when writing the property 'Latitude' to the file 'filename'."
So I decided to try it in Bridge CS5. I selected the photo, went to the metadata panel, double clicked the location under Latitude, and I get an error saying "This property cannot be modified."

According to Adobe staff (see link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/830277?tstart=0) the GPS data format in Bridge is based on Adobe
Extensible Metadata Platform(XMP) standard. The only supported format is GPS format
dd,mm.mmmmW.
Have never used this so not sure what mmmmW represents.

Recovery of this request is in progress error when executing the owb PF

When I execute the process flow in OWB it shows the status as completed successfully but it doesn't collects any data in the table and also at two of the steps status is shown as recovery RPE-01008:Recovery of this request is in progress. Does anyone have any idea on how we can resolve this issue.

Goto your <OWB_CONTROL_CENTER_HOME>\owb\log directory

BODS 4.2 Cannot import the metadata table, RFC_ABAP_INSTALL_AND_RUN syntax error

Hi all, we installed BODS 4.2 server to substitute a 4.1, but we are facing the error:
Error: Cannot import the metadata table <name=T001>
RFC CallReceive error <Function /BODS/RFC_ABAP_INSTALL_AND_RUN: RFC_ABAP_RUNTIME_FAILURE -(Exception Key: Syntax error in program /BODS/SAPLBODS....
We already tried the solution for when people get the error related to unicode.
Also, we are able to pull data via extractors, it only fails when loading Tables....
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You will have to import the new ABAP Function Group "BODS/BODS".

SAP BusinessObjects Data Services provides functions that support the use of the ABAP, BAPI, and

of the software in an SAP environment. These functions perform such operations as dynamically loading
and executing ABAP programs from Data Services, efficiently running preloaded ABAP programs,
allowing for seamless metadata browsing and importing from SAP servers, and reporting the status of
running jobs. Some of these functions read data from SAP NetWeaver BW sources.
You must upload the provided functions to your SAP server in a production environment. It is
recommended that you always upload the functions to your SAP server whether you are in a
development, test, or production environment. The functions provide seamless integration between
Data Services and SAP servers.
The default installation places two function module files for SAP servers in the ...\Data
Services\Admin\R3_Functions\transport directory. You then upload these files to SAP servers
using the SAP Correction and Transport System (CTS) or manually. Using CTS allows for version
control as the functions evolve across releases.
The installation provides two versions of transport files (depending on the server version you are using)
to install the functions on the SAP server. To obtain the names of the latest transport files for installing
or upgrading these SAP server functions, see the readme.txt file
And I've found those files and text files in the local install folder....in:
Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Data Services\admin\R3_Functions
(that's where I've installed it).
There you'll find some descriptive txt as how to proceed.
After installing, it might happen that the executing user is missing some authorizations.
Here my authorizations team helped me by tracing the user and then adding the necessary rights.

LR4 - Hierarchical Keyword Metadata Writing Problem

Having found a problem with LR4 in reading hierarchical metadata from photo files, I now seem to have found a similar problem when writing metadata to files.
As before, I use hierarchical keywords with the "/" character as the separator in the photo files metadata.
Let's say I assign the keyword "Christmas" to a photo. This actually has the hierarchy "Events/holidays/Christmas"
When I write out the metadata to the photo, I want, and expect, the hierarchical keyword string to be written: Events/holidays/Christmas.
Instead, what I get are three separate keywords written out separated by commas: Events,holidays,Christmas.
This is pointless - LR4 has just destroyed my keyword hierarchy and just given me a flat list of keywords.
Is this a bug, or is this indeed expected behaviour of LR4? Because if it's the latter, then LR4 is not going to work for me as a metadata editor.

That's the expected behavior of LR 3 and 4. Some background:
There is no widely accepted industry standard yet for handling hiearchical keywords. (The Metadata Working Group has defined a standard, but I don't know of any application that has implemented it yet.)
LR stores hierarchical keywords in the XMP:HierarchicalSubject metadata field (a non-standard field recognized by LR and Bridge), with the elements of the hierarchy separated by "|", e.g. Events|Holidays|Christmas. In the industry-standard field XMP:Subject, LR only stores non-hierarchical keywords. You can control whether the containing keywords (e.g. Events and Holidays) are also stored in the XMP:Subject field with the keyword options Export Containing Keywords and Include On Export.
Other non-standard approaches store hierarchical keywords in the XMP:Subject field, with the elements separated by "|", ".", or "/". For compatability, LR will recognize those hierarchical keywords when it reads metadata, controlled by the options in Preferences > File Handling. But LR always writes out its hierarchical keywords using its own non-standard approach.
Perhaps in a few years, the industry will have converged on a standard and implemented it.

Indexer and check-in work in progress error

When i check in documents using "standard checkin", i don't know why the files remain on the secction "work in progress"...
then when i get in the repository manager i see that the files is pending to be indexed, but when i execute manually the indexer i get the following stack of error:

that's a pretty exotic Java language error... it looks like you have one component that believes that the FileStoreProvider is being used, but its not.
My guess is that you installed a component or a patch that is not compatible with your system. You can disable these components one at a time to try to track down the bad one...

Metadata Manager Repository Configuration Error

I'm trying to install XI 3.1 Metadata Manager FP1, and run into the following error:
"Metadata Management Repository Configuration
Metadata Management Repository configuration failed with the following error.
The plugin CrystalEnterprise.MM.Repository does not exist in the CMS (FWM 0217)

I ran it again and got the same error. I have a SQL Server database set up, ODBC connections test successfully. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

I ran into the same error, and a colleague was able to figure it out. I thought I'd share that in case someone else runs into this.
We have two CMS servers. When I was installing MM's CMS components on the first server, it failed late in the install because it couldn't find an object that was installed earlier. It must have been accessing the second server, even though I entered "localhost" as the CMS location. By disabling and stopping the second server in the CMC, I was able to complete the install.

Threads/Multiple classes - how to update progress/error log

I have an application where multiple threads may be running at the same time. Different classes need to update the same error/progress log file. Should I create another class with a static method that takes strings as parameter? And then this static method would write the strings to the log file? What would happen if two threads access the static method at the exact same time? Need guidance.

Write a controller/server to do the updates and have all other threads communitcate with it--do not have al lthreads trying to hit against the same file.
Use logic silimar to a DB with memory caching of writes and having a dedicated writer sending them out to disk.
