Metadata & XMP files in Bridge CS3 under Windows XP

Question regarding Bridge CS3, 2.1.1.9, on a computer running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3:
A useful feature seems to have disappeared from my installation of Bridge. In Horizontal Filmstrip view, I used to see a little icon over the thumbnails showing the CR2 files that I had opened and processed in Camera Raw. The icon was a small circle with a downward-pointing triangle, if I recall. The CR2 files that I had never opened in Camera Raw did not show that icon. Now I never see the icons, even for those CR2 files for which the XMP file is present in the same folder as the CR2 file.
Is there a way that I can get Bridge to display those icons again?
Thanks.

CS3 does have a symbol for a modified RAW thumb. This differentiates if from the unmodified RAW thumb. A circle with 2 arrows in it I believe.

When I try to open a RAW file from Bridge CS3 it defaults to Mac Preview and does not open Photoshop Elements 6 RAW converter.  If I open a RAW file outside of Bridge it work fine.  What did I do wrong??   Using a iBook G4 with OS 10.5.8 and Photoshop Elements 6 and new Camera RAW plugin for my Panasonic LX3 camera.  hjz62

Bridge requires the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw to be installed.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4581 Adobe states that this is the latest version of camera raw compatible with PSE-6 Mac. Others may have additional information.
As to the issue of defaulting to Apple software, this issue is usually a configuration problem wherein certain file extensions are granted permissin to be summarily opened by a given program. ((Right clicking any given file, then choosing "open with", and selecting a given program  is a work around, but to avoid this step, you need to reconfigure your program settings.)) This is the Windows file path/solution, I am not familiar with Mac. I am confident that the issus is the same

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • Append file name using FileSelectPopup under Windows 7

    Hi,
I saw the following thread for the same issue in Vista, just wanted to make sure that this issue has been fixed for Windows 7 also before I upgrade to the latest version.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
I ran across that issue when I was running applications built under CVI 7.1.1 on Windows 7.  I can verify that rebuilding the application under CVI 2009 SP1 and later CVI 2010 fixed the issue.  So you should be ok.

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
    Thanks TMPEG
    Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe

  • Can't Open jpeg files from Bridge CS3 to PhotoShop CS3

This is really weird. I had a trial version of CS3 and bridge worked fine. That ran out, so I tried CS2 to see if I could get by with the older version. CS2's bridge worked just fine.
Then I installed a full version copy of CS3 and removed CS2 (to free up space) and for some bizarre reason, I cannot open any files from bridge into Photoshop. It's the CS3 bridge because I clicked on the Help, About Bridge and it showed CS3.
When I just click "open" under file, it tries to open with Illustrator. When I click, "open with" I get this list: Adobe Illustrator CS3 (default), Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 6.00, and Paint 5.1.
I can't figure out a way to change the default to CS3, and it worked fine with the trials.
    Please advise.

It was a nice thought. I just did it, and associated all .jpg type files with photoshop, but no such luck in solving issue. I did figure out a way around it that kinda works, but not nearly as convenient. I drag select a group, then hold-click on the group and toggle into Photoshop, then let go. It pastes the group there. However, if I control click to select a group (or deselect within a group), I can't hold-click. So I have to do smaller groups at a time if I want to bypass certain pictures that get grabbed in a bigger group--does that make any sense at all?

  • Viewing .pct / .pict files in Bridge CS3

Hello there, I'd like to view .pct / .pict files in Bridge, but I am not getting any previews. I've tried to find a topic about this but haven't had any luck. Does anybody know a way to view them... a plug- in maybe. Or is that going to be the 'way it is'?
Actually just jumped on a MAC and pct files do preview, but no luck on any of the Windows machines.
    Thanks a million!

That IS odd. I saved a file from Photoshop as a 32-bit .pct and I can
confirm that Bridge (on Windows) does not preview or thumbnail it. On the
other hand, I can't find any other program, free or pay, that fails to view
the file, so it obviously presents no technical difficulties...

  • Cannot open my G11 raw files in Bridge CS3.

I just downloaded my G11 raw files onto my computer. Usually, I do a quick glance in Bridge CS3 but they do not open. I do have Photoshop CS4, but that doesn't help me, right? What do I need to do to open these?  I've already updated my Bridge CS3 to 2.1.1.9.
    I am using Mac G5, OS 10.5.x.

But be aware that CS4 comes with ACR 5.0
You will need to update it to version 5.6 for the G11.
    It's on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

  • Couldn't open RAW files in Bridge Cs3

    Hi,
the RAW files (CR2) cannot be opened/developed with using Bridge CS3. When I double click the file (CR2) in Bridge, it just gave this prompt in Photoshop, "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
I used to be able to open Raw files in my friend's G5 using Bridge. When I double click the file, it will automatically open the Canon Camera Raw with settings for me to adjust before I develop the picture. However when I tried on my own computer, it came out the prompt I mentioned above.
Please advise what is the problem with my Bridge. Do I need to reintall the whole of Adobe suite?
    Thank you so much.

    Brian
first check again the right location of (only one!) ACR plug in (see post 3 of this thread for details)
Then quit Bridge, in user library go to preferences and manual trash the plist file for Bridge (com.adobe.bridge2.plist), restart again with option key and again reset prefs.
If this is still not working create a new user account and check if Bridge is working correctly in this new user, if so your user account is corrupt and you should do maintenance for the OS (Archive and install).
If still no luck go again to the user library/cache/Adobe/BridgeCS3/cache. This cache file can grow to the enormous portions, check the size and if you wish make a copy for back up. Then delete this whole cache file by dragging it to the trash. Again delete plist file and again restart option to refresh prefs. By deleting the cache file you will need to recache all your folders so it is a very hard way but it worked for me several times.

  • Pdf files wil not open under Windows Live Mail

PDF Files will not open in WIndows Live Mail. I deinstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled a more recent version but to no avail. It will open very well using WIndows explorer or when opening the reader. Any clues someone?

WLM is version 2009 14.0.8117.0416. I'm running under Vista and all other more recent versions are not compatible. The file association has been made and I can open all pdf files in Windows explorer. Under Outlook mail it works as well. It worked until recently when I loaded a program that was supposed to convert pdf files to Word but that did not work so I had to deinstall it and redo the file association. It worked everywher except in WLM.

  • ACR 4.4.1 does not open TIF file from bridge (CS3)

    Hi,
I have the preferences in CS3-Bridge and ACR set to open JPG & TIF files in ACR and not CS3 but when I click on a TIF file in bridge it opens in PS CS3 instead. These TIF files were generated by a GUI interface for ENFUSE which is an algorythm that combines bracketed RAW or JPG exposures for expanded dynamic range... it works very well ad outputs to TIF... but I can't seem to open these TIFs in ACR. Isn't a TIF a TIF?
Is there a way to force ACR to open these?

There are many varieties of TIF files (including b/w fax images).
I have no idea if this will work, but you could try opening one of the files in Photoshop, saving as a TIF from Photoshop, and then see if that new TIF file will open in ACR. At least it should let you know of opening of TIF/JPG files in Camera Raw is working correctly.

  • Transferring Files Causes Bridge CS3 to Crash

I am using Bridge CS3 as a means of cataloguing a lot of imagery. I have gotten to about 2600 images in one folder and every time I try to drag more into the folder Bridge crashes. Any ideas on how much info a folder can handle, or bridge in general. I am saving these images to a Server so it is not a memory issue on my internal hard drive.

The last version of Bridge CS3 was 2.1.1.9. Make sure you are updated.
That being said, all versions of Bridge 2.x were downright awful, miserable, despicable and intolerable. It should have been fixed for free.
Fortunately, Bridge 3.x in CS4 is a different animal, vastly improved, but it's not free.

  • Can't access Raw files in Bridge CS3

I have recently had to purchase a new computer (Acer) and have re installed CS3.  When I open Bridge none of RAW files are showing and bridge doesn't say I can open any images in RAW.  I use windows XP
I have dowloaded the ACR4.6 from the Adobe and believe I have installed it correctly.
The Acer machine is a Veriton M670 and has a Intel Core 2 processor.
I hope someone can help me.

I assume you mean folder (directory), not "file".
Make sure that folder is completely out of the way of the path to Photoshop, nowhere near your application directory.  Either put it in your Documents folder or delete it.

  • Trouble showing .orf files in Bridge CS3

Having moved to a new mac I just installed my old CS3 package. Everything seems to work fine but I can no longer see my photos from my Olympus E-3, raw .orf files. I have tried to upgrade Bridge but with no results in that regard. I also added the DNG camera Raw 4.6 plugin to Photoshop which now can open these files. Does anybody know what I can do to see these files in the Bridge browser which I use to select the shots that I want to work on. The other elements of the CS3 package seem to work fine.

That was a slip of the finger.  The latest and last version for CS3 is indeed ACR 4.6, not 4.7.

    Hi there

That's the wrong location.  ACR is a plug-in that is common to both Photoshop and Bridge, not just Bridge, and it belongs inside your ROOT LEVEL Library, that is in a path beginning with your Hard Disk name.  Note that is NOT your User library:
    Name_of_yourHardDisk/  Library/ Application Support/ Adobe/ Plug-Ins/ CS3/ File Formats/
