Metallic blips interrupt playback, cause computer lag, iTunes library gradually depleted

I didn't realize there would be a comment box
here's the story friends, perhaps you can help me!
This has not been an issue with any of my other pcs. I am running Windows 7 on a (cheap) Gateway I bought this summer. I keep ALL of my music on an external terabyte and have never encountered problems with external HD music in iTunes on another machine.
Since loading iTunes onto this computer, I have experienced:
-metallic, buzzing interruptions to music playback with no discernible pattern or cause. All programs can be closed, or open, machine can be active or relatively inactive, and i will hear this sound intermittently and indiscriminately, regardless. I can listen to a song on repeat, for example, and the buzzing will happen multiple times in one playback, none in another, and several times again, in different places, in a third playback. This would indicate to me some kind of external influence, but those factors are not consistent either.
- slow depletion of library. iTunes will, after an uncertain amount of time (i have not clocked it because I had not thought it to recur again), begin to lose connection to files. I will open up iTunes and songs I was recently listening to will have exclamation marks next to them, indicative of a missing file that the program could not locate. When I double-click on them, it states it's unable to find the file and when I attempt to find it where all my music is stored, I frequently CAN'T.
Due to this, I have deleted my library, approximately 50G, three times and re-imported it all at once thereafter, each time. The missing songs will reappear in working order, and even those I was not aware I'd lost will return.
I did this about a month and a half ago, I think, and now files are disappearing again.
Does ANYONE have the slightest inkling of what's going on here? I am very frustrated, obviously, because I have used iTunes for over 5 years and have put a good deal of money into it that cannot be transferred to another platform. I would be elated to even hear from someone with a similar problem.
Thank you for reading, I appreciate your time, and any help you may be able to offer me!

How do I transfer or backup tv shows I downloaded on my iPad from the iPad into my computer's iTunes library? I have a bunch of tv episodes on my iPad that I want to delete but first i want to back them up onto my computer so i have them. If I check "Sync TV Shows" in the iPad in TV shows it tells me all the shows on the iPad will be replaced by what is in my library. I tried going into iTunes store to redownload but it tells me they are "downloaded." Any thoughts?

    Hi,
When you connected your phone on your computer, open up iTunes, then on the left hand side, Right-Click (secondary click) on your iPhone, and choose "Transfer Purchases."

  • HT1751 my computer just crashed, and i could not make a back up disc,  can my collection be uploaded to my "repaired" computer from itunes library?

My computer crashed, and all data was lost, as i was unable to make back up discs prior to the repair.  my entire itunes library was lost.  has anyone had any success in retriving  the library from itunes?  i am assumming that a full back up should be within the itunes site.

It has always been very basic to maintain a backup of your media and other important files.
Use the backup of the computer to put everything back.
If you have failed to maintain a backup, most iTunes purchases can be redownloaded.
    Download past purchases from iTunes

  • How do I delete songs from iTunes Match while keeping them in my computer's iTunes library?

So I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but I can't seem to find an answer specifically relevant to my issue. I have a playlist on my computer entitled "Christmas Music" in which I store all of my holiday songs (about 64 songs out of over 6,000). Now that the Christmas season is over, I no longer want to listen to these songs, so I have unchecked them all in my iTunes library. However, because I am subscribed to iTunes Match, the songs all still play when I have my music shuffled on my phone—iTunes Match apparently doesn't care whether they are checked in your library or not; it will still sync them across all your devices and play them during shuffle mode regardless.
The solution would be for me to somehow remove these particular songs from iCloud so they no longer play in iTunes Match. However, I would still like to have the songs in my iTunes library so that I could listen to them again in the future during the appropriate time of year. I can only seem to find instructions on how to delete the songs permanently from both my iTunes Library and iCloud, when all I really want to do is delete them from iCloud.
Is there a way for me to do this that doesn't involve permanently losing any of my songs? Please help.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

  • Trying to move iPod touch to new computer.  iTunes library from old computer already on external hard drive.  Don't want to lose playlists, apps, etc.  Help?

I am trying to move iPod touch to a new computer.  My iTunes library was already on a 1 TB external hard drive.  I downloaded iTunes on my new computer, plugged in my external hard drive with my iTunes library, and changed my iTunes media folder location (preferences-advanced) to my external hard drive location. But now all my songs are "checked" (all were not before) and none of my old playlists are present.  When I plug in my iPod touch to the new computer, it asks if I want to erase and sync.  I do not want to lose my playlists, apps, etc.  How do I move over to my new cpmputer without erasing my iPod and losing stuff?

Forgot to add, my iPod touch is backed up on iCloud

  • How do I upload music from my iPod to my new computer's iTunes Library?

    To try to explain this simply;
I recently purchased a new computer (Toshiba laptop),
I have already uploaded some CD's to my Library and synced my iPod Touch to my Library,
But when I connect my iPod Classic to my computer's iTunes tells me that my iPod is already synced to another Lirbrary and gives me the options of either to "Transfer Purchases" or " Sync and Erase",
I've tried to "Transfer Purchases" but it seems to upload literally only iTunes store purchases but I want to upload ALL of the music from my iPod to my Library because I have purchased albulms from a (deleted) Rhapsody account and I also have Youtube converted songs (which basically makes up my entire Library),
I also have uploaded files from my old computer with an external hard drive but I have absoulutly no idea how to find them,
So! I need to upload my music from my iPod to my Library without deleting music from my existing Library or my iPod
Please help! And please explain as well as you can, I get confused easily..

The best way is to use the backup you made on the old computer and restore the iTunes folder to the new computer. No backup? The if the old computer is still working using an external device to copy the iTunes folder from the old computer and copy it to the new one.
If neither of the above are doable, and you have a PC, use this:

  • Does anyone know how to sync the playlists from your iPod to your computer's iTunes library?

I have playlists on my iPod that I have either made on my iPod or have stayed on there from a previous computer, but now I would like to put them on my computer in my iTunes library but I can't figure out how. I wanted those ones on my computer too... Help!! (I have an iPod touch by the way.)

    Hey there,
So you have all your music on your iPod still? If so, you should be able to copy the music from your iPod to iTunes.
    Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
When you plug it in, make sure to hit cancel if it opens up iTunes and asks you if you would like to transfer purchses, or erase and sync.

  • Computer Crashed. iTunes Library Lost. How can I get it back from my iPhone

I have 522 Purchased songs on my iPhone. My computer recently crashed and we got a new hard drive, so all settings were refreshed on my computer. I plugged in my iPhone to transfer my Purchases back to my iTunes library. Again, 522 Purchased songs, and only 303 of them copied. I tried transferring them again, however it didn't transfer anything. Is there anyway I can get the songs back from my iPhone?
Note: My iPhone is on automatic update, and if I try switching it to manual I'm prompted that in order for the change to occur I must Erase and Sync my iPhone which would completely defeat the purpose of my trying to get my music back on my computer so I can put new songs on my iPhone as well.

Purchased songs should be able to be copied back, but if not, maybe you need use other tools. This is a frequently asked question, you can have a look of below answer.

    PLEASE HELP! thanks

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Don't forget that if you haven't already done so you need to change the update preference to "Manually manage music and videos" if you want to safely connect and use an iPod on your two computers. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default.:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Reformatted Computer, Locked iTunes Library on Time Machine

My wife and I recently reformatted her iBook with OS 10.5. She had it on there before and had been using Time Machine to back up her computer. The problem now is that when we try to choose a library for iTunes, previous backups are "locked." I assume this is because we renamed her computer during the re-installation of Leopard.
Does anyone know how I can access the older library? For that matter, it seems as though all of the back-ups are there, but I'm unable to access them via Time Machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Back to basics.
Time Machine is an application that copies to a second drive (usually external).  Apple sells drives called Time Capsule but basically any external drive should work.  From what you said I gather you have set up TM to copy to your external drive but you have also placed your entire iTunes library on that external drive and deleted it from your internal drive in order to free up space.  Ergo, you only have one copy of your iTunes library now and that's on the external.  I don't know about TM failing after 18 months since it is software.  Maybe Time Capsule since it is hardware, but the timeframe isn't a given.  My external could "fail" tonight if somebody broke into my house and stole all my computer stuff.  You're never safe with only one copy of your files, and it sounds like you only have one copy of your iTunes collection.
You say "remapping" which isn't a technical term for iTunes.  Do you mean you changed something in iTunes preferences, or have you held down the option key while starting iTunes so it knows to look for your library files on the external drive?
Do you have iTunes manage your music?
How did you plcae your collection on the external drive?  Do you have the whole iTunes folder there along with media files, library files, artwork folder, etc?, or did you use the "move your media to a different location" method which only moves media and basically splites up your iTunes folder across several drives?

  • Can I sync my iPhone library to be my new computer's iTunes library?

I just got my laptop fixed. (Compaq with Windows Vista)
And everything erased, and I have no back up (Well I did, but that isn't working for some reason)
I still have my music on my iPhone, but what is there a way I can shift whatever I have on there, to become my new iTunes library on my laptop?

Sorry but the iPhone is not a backup device. In general all the music on the phone will be erased if you try to sync with another computer (or same one that has been reinstalled thus new to iPhone).
With that said, this question is asked daily so I am surprised you didn't find the answer already (you did search before asking right?)
Anyhow, if you connect, and DO NOT SYNC, and then choose "Transfer Purchased Content" from the File Menu, it will take off some stuff. Mainly anything you really bought from iTunes. It will NOT take off anything you obtained by other means as it cannot prove you own it.
You may want to actually search though as there are more options you can work with to try to get more off (3rd party tools) and also important information about how not to lose your contacts. I am assuming you never searched and why I am suggesting you do because it is asked daily multiple times.

  • **HELP**how to transfer "lost" music from computer to iTunes library

HELP *_Problem #1_* I deleted old files. Apparently I deleted too much. I restored the CDs from the recycle bin, but now I can't find where that music is located on my computer. *_Problem #2_* Once I find the music from the CDs how do I add it back into my iTunes library. (Problem is that I don't have some of the CDs anymore!!!)

When you locate the files you can put them into your library by hitting the file drop down menu and selecting Add file to library or add folder to library. You can then browse for the files and download them into itunes.
