Metric Paper Size Defaults

I have two OfficeJet Pro 8500's and an OfficeJet 7000 that I purchased in the UK (two of them are less than 6 months old. I am frustrated that I cannot get the printers to default to metric paper sizes. I can create metric shortcuts, but I cannot remove the American 8.5" x 11" defaults. Every time the printer starts, it defaults to the USA size. I have spoken with HP (India) who didn't have a clue (of course after making me reload the software). I have the latest Microsoft Version 7 software, but this problem existed when on Vista too. Does anyone know how get these UK products to recognise that they are European and not American?

Paper size can be modified in print settings........
Change print settings
You can change print settings (such as paper size or type) from an application or the
printer driver. Changes made from an application take precedence over changes
made from the printer driver. However, after the application is closed, the settings
return to the defaults configured in the driver.
NOTE: To set print settings for all print jobs, make the changes in the printer
driver. For more information about the features of the Windows printer driver, see the
online help for the driver. For more information about printing from a specific
application, see the documentation that came with the application.
Change settings from an application for current jobs (Windows)
To change the settings
1. Open the document that you want to print.
2. On the File menu, click Print, and then click Setup, Properties, or Preferences.
(Specific options may vary depending on the application that you are using.)
3. Select the appropriate printing shortcut,y and then click OK, Print, or a similar
command.
Change default settings for all future jobs (Windows)
To change the settings
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers or Printers and Faxes.
- Or -
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers.
NOTE: If prompted, enter your administrator password.
2. Right-click the printer icon, and then click Properties, General Tab, or Printing
Preferences.
3. Change the settings that you want, and then click OK.
Let me know if that helped or not.

  • Page Setup / Paper Size not saved

    Hi,
I would like to change the default paper size for printing from US letter to A4. I change the paper size via File > Print > Page Setup > Paper Size to A4, but this setting is always lost once I close and restart Adobe Reader (paper size defaults back to US letter). I am using Adobe Reader X MUI on Windows XP at the moment, but I had the same issue with Adobe Reader 9.4.1 as well (there the menu is File > Page Setup > Paper Size).
Is there any way to make Adobe Reader remember a different default paper size (other than US letter)?
The printer has A4 as default in case anyone is wondering.
    Thanks!

  • PS CS6 ignoring paper size

    I'm trying to print a 24 x 34 print to an HP Z3100.
Everything sets fine in the HP driver, but when it comes back to the Photoshop print dialog box, PS still thinks it's printing to an 8 1/2  x 11 sheet.
How do I get Photoshop to 'listen' to what the printer is supposed to be doing?
    Thanks
    T.O.

    Hello Chris,
Something's up with CS6 and the HP driver for the Z3100.  I've used my Z3100 for 5 years with CS4 & CS5, when I try to print with CS6 it screws up.  After you set up the paper size, profiles, etc and exit out to print, the paper size defaults back to 8 1/2 x 11.  I was even trying different custom sizes.   I even tried entering a custom paper size in Windows so it shows up as a standard paper size in the printer setup window.  When you close out the printer setup it defaults back to 8 1/2 x 11.  If I open up CS5, select the same paper size in the printer setup, same file, same paper, same profile, same color space then exit out to print, the paper does not get resized and everything prints fine.  Luckily I kept a copy of CS5 on a flash drive after installing CS6 and was able to load both on my computer.  Kind of sucks to edit in CS6 and print in CS5, especially after spending all this money on CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6 over the past 10+ years.
I was searching on line and realized I wasn't the only one having this issue with CS6.  This is how I found out it wasn't my computer.  Installed CS5 and everything works as expected.  Tried again with CS6 and no go…
    I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, CS5 64 bit.

  • How do I change the default paper size from letter to A4 on an F2480 attached to a Windows 7 system?

I have an F2480 attached to a Windows 7 machine.  I have used the Solution Center to check that I have the latest printer driver installed.  How do I get the software to understand that the paper loaded in the printer is A4 not letter, and always will be?  I found an earlier question about this on this board where DexterM suggested going in through Printing Preferences.  I have done that but it won't let me save A4 as the paper size for all future use.  Also in that conversation HPPooper suggests editing the Registry, but the keyword he references ("DsDriver") does not exist on my system.

    Hi bobellina,
I did some testing and think I may have found a solution:
    1. Open Devices and Printers
    2. Right click the printer and select Printing Preferences
    3. Click on Features tab
    4. Click on Sizes and choose "More"
    5. Choose "Metric" or "English" at the top (depending on the size options you want available)
    6. Select the paper size you want as default, then click OK
    7. Click Apply, then OK on the remaining window
    8. Right click the printer again and select "Set as Default"
This should make whatever paper size you select be "default" in whatever application you are printing from (unless the application has a default override). Paint and Notepad left the printer defaults, but Word 2010 overrode them.
If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution

  • Default paper size in page setup

I have 3 different printers, each with specific paper sizes. My HP C3180 uses letter size only. My HP Officejet pro K850 uses tabloid (ledger) size only. My Toshiba e-studio 20s has a tray for letter and another for tabloid. My problem is that when I set the default paper size in page setup, it changes the paper size for all three printers! How do I set a different default paper size for each individual printer?

Thanks. I'm really disappointed that apple had to dumb-down Leopard. It really makes it difficult to use my macs in the office. I hate to say it, but score one for the PC on this one. I'm really frustrated, and this will definitely affect future purchases (Apple, did you hear that?)
    Thank you.

  • How do I change the default paper size for printing?

I am running Firefox 3.6.3. Recently, the default paper size for printing unexpectedly changed to a user-defined size of 3.00" x 4.57". It used to be letter size (8.5 x 11). The default paper size is 8.5 x 11 for everything else. I have tried changing the size in the preferences dialog box and then clicking "default", but after I close Firefox or if Firefox opens a new window, the default size switches back to 3.00" x 4.57". Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • How do I change the default paper size in Firefox if Printer Properties does nothing?

I print on different including a receipt printer with roll paper.
I had to reset Firefox yesterday because of a bug, and then changed the Printer Properties to be able to print again in the right format on the receipt paper. But now everything I print from Firefox (even when I change the paper size to Letter on the Printer properties for the regular printer) is in the receipt paper format (long and narrow.) When I do Print Preview, I can see that the paper looks like the roll paper, even if I'm trying to print on letter size.
I tried resetting both printers with about:config, I tried changing in the printer properties for both printers and nothing works.
Is there a way to change the default paper size in Firefox?

    Hello,
My understanding is that Firefox uses the global printer settings. I am not familiar with the Windows 8 interface, but can you change the printer settings in its Devices and Printers and see if it changes the default for Firefox as well?

  • Default paper size in Numbers

The most common paper size in Mexico is US letter not A4. The Numbers App in my computer is confused and sets it to A4. This may be because my region is Mexico, or because I use a Spanish keyboard. How can I tell Numbers to change to US letter as the default paper size?

    Hola Jose,
Open any application with direct access to Page Setup (in the File menu), for example. Text Edit.
In Page Setup, use the Paper Size pop-up menu to choose US Letter:
Then use the Settings pop-u menu to choose Save as default.
The default setting should now apply to all applications accessog the Print dialogue to print.

  • Change default paper size on Preview when printing

When I open the print window on Preview (ver 7.0) to print a .pdf file, the default paper size is always A4, which I never use; I use US Letter instead. Is there a way to change the default paper size to US Letter so I don't have to change it every time I print or forget completely? I tried looking under Preview preferences, but no luck.
I use my MBP in the Japanese language (in Japan they use A4 as main paper size), but I live in the US. Is this the cause of this problem?

Having the region set to Japan will have set the default to A4 but you can change it by opening Printers & Scanners and changing the setting "Default Paper Size" from A4 to US Letter.

  • Change default paper size to A4 Two Sided Margins

My default paper size (System Preferences > Printers & Scanners) is currently set to A4.
However, I think this is giving me problems when I try to print duplex (HP Photosmart 5520). If I select two-sided printing in the print dialog (from any application) I get an error saying that the margins have to be adjusted.
I think this is preventing me from setting two-sided as the default, or even including it in presets. If I try to include it in a preset, next time I select the preset, two sided printing remains off.
How can I change my default paper size to "A4, Two Sided Margins"? There is an option in the print dialog to change it (only for that current print job) but this particular paper size/margins is not available in System Preferences where you select the default paper size.
Is there something I can install to make this option show up in System Preferences? Can I make a custom paper size for it?

You may be able to change the defaults by following the instructions of PAHU in the thread linked below, but you're on your own as to the consequences.

  • Change default paper size

I print from Firefox 34.0.5 under Windows Vista Home Premium to a Kyocera laser printer FS-C8520MFP.
How can I change the default paper size in Firefox?
The default paper size on the printer is A4 and this works fine on all other print originating software. But from Firefox it defaults to A3. I can and do change it each time I print, but that means going into properties and changing both paper size and layout. There must (surely!) be a default paper size setting in Firefox. Indeed, the fact that Firefox alone defaults to A3 indicates that there is such a Firefox default. Any offers?

  • How to set default paper size in iPhoto?

iPhoto selects a paper size seemingly at random, and I can't find any way to set the default to letter. What am I missing here? I don't have this problem with other applications.

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the additional information.
This bug was originally fixed in 9.0.4 but seems to have been broken again somehow in 9.0.5 and 10.1.2, so I have opened a new bug for it. The bug number is 4032412.
The good news is that this bug does not exist in the 10.1.3 Developer's Preview which will be available very soon! and it also allows you to set the page orientation of the diagrams from within Tools | Preferences.
    Thanks for reporting the problem,

  • Default paper sizes HP designjet 500

In system preferences printer setup for my HP designjet 500 there are no Arch size paper sizes available. They are available when printing from applications but it is frustrating that I can not set the only paper size I ever use in the default settings. Is there some way of activating arch paper sizes as default in system preferences?

No, there isn't a way to change the list of default page sizes in Print & Fax Prefs, but you can set the default page size by using TextEdit (or any other app that has Page Setup): change the Paper Size in the "Paper Size" menu the desired arch size, then select "Save as Default" in the "Settings" menu. That should set the default size for other applications.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I change the default paper size from "Letter" to "A4 "on an P1006 (Windows 7)

I have just reformatted my computer (Window 7 Professional - 64 bits) computer and then re-installed my HP Laserjet P1006 (downloading the driver from HP website) Even though I have changed the settings EVERYWHERE to A4 format - including the measurements to show millimeters - and even though all settings indicate that the format has been changed correctly, printed documents still come out as if printed in Letter format. The only place in printer settings and preferences that I can find where it still says Letter is under in the "General" tab (right click the default printer > "Printer Properties") where it under the heading "Paper available" says "Letter".  And...I don't know where/how to change that setting. However on my second printer of the same model that I am using for another computer , the settings also show Letter in this place, and that computer can - despite that - still print in A4 format....so this may not be the problem. Can anyone PLEASE help !

Hi Gemini02 ! Thanks for trying to help, but that is not solving it.
And actually, I found out how to resolve the problem already:
     1) Open up aq Word Doc + go to...  FILE > Options > Advance > Print
     2)  UN-tick the following item:   "Scale content for A4 or 8,5 x 11" paper sizes" + OK
I know it doesn't make sense, but it works.

  • How create Default Paper Size of 6" X 9" in Print and Fax System Prefs

I would appreciate help in creating a Default Paper Size of 6" X 9" because this size is not listed among the options for Tiger's Print and Fax in System Preferences. I mainly use my imac and Epson Photo R200 printer to print 6" X 9" formatted pages on 8 1/2" by 11" sheets created in MS Word. But without an Apple default for a 6" X 9" custom size, I run into all kinds of formatting problems, including the making of PDFs. My friend has a Windows machine that does have the 6" X 9" among its options, and she has no problem producing the results I am after. Thanks for helping!
    imac G-4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You should be able to create a custom page size with these dimensions in the Page Setup Dialog (under Paper Size). After creating it, use the "Save As Default" under the Settings menu.
    Hope that helps.
